Dessert heading out the pass window

Good food, great service! Was it the best steak I'd ever had? No, but it was good, and reasonably priced (IMHO). The salad dressing was fire! So were the fries. We got a half bottle of red wine and chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert, which were also good. The restaurant was packed, bustling, kind of chaotic, and quite the scene! It was a lot of fun.

It's a set menu and there's only one main dish - steak. It starts with a salad - lettuce and walnuts. The dressing is a vinaigrette with mustard. Next, slices of steak with French fries. The sauce is what's famous here - also mustard-based. There are 2 rounds of meat and fries - they come around a second time offering more if you'd like. As I'm not a fan of mustard, I wasn't a fan of the salad or the steak. But, that's the way it is and I'm not giving 4 stars for this. Desserts and coffee are extra. The lemon tart was pretty good. The profiteroles were not too tasty. The chocolate cake was like a thick dense cake that wasn't too bad. Don't go hungry. We were served about 9 pieces of thinly sliced steak. Truthfully, it's not much. See the photos. So, 4 stars for too little food.

It's been a month and I'm still thinking about this steak. They did not skimp on the portions that's for sure but after a long day of sightseeing it was just what we needed. We got there 20 minutes after they opened and we waited a total of 1.5 hours to be seated but once we sat the service was quick and they were not rushing us at all. Would definitely recommend and come back!

I can see why people like Le Relais de l'Entrecôte, but I am not sure it fully lived up to the hype for me. I waited about 30 to 40 minutes, and since they only serve two rounds with very thinly sliced steak, the portion felt smaller than I expected. The famous green sauce was genuinely delicious and the best part of the meal, but I left undecided on whether the overall experience was really worth the wait.

Steak Frites was one of our bucket list items for visiting France. Since this place was all over social media, we had to see if it was worth the hype. When we walked over the line was already so long that we didn't think we would make the first seating. We waited so long in line but luckily for us it seems we made the first seating. From the outside, it doesn't look too large, but I'm wondering if they had a dining area deeper in the back. The interior head sort of an old school feel to it. Also, I can't knock them on service. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Towards the end of the meal, they even came around asking if we wanted an extra complementary serving of steak and fries. On to the bad. Factoring in reputation, wait times and food quality, I unfortunately can't give them higher than a 2. The price is relatively affordable and the service keeps them higher than a 1 star but it's not enough to bring them to a 3. I do not exaggerate one bit when I say that this was literally the toughest steak that I've ever ordered at a restaurant, at least in recent memory. It was so tough and bland that we literally said no thanks to the seconds for steak initially. My friend felt so bad when he saw the shocked and almost sad look on our servers face that he accepted the seconds and we all played it off and followed along. We ended up getting the extra fries as well. I would have hoped that the green sauce would have helped but unfortunately not really. Had the service just been a little bad, I would easily have given them a 1/5. Maybe back before social media helped them blow up, they were in their prime and fantastic. But as for our experience, this place was definitely a bust.

Yes, there is a long line, where we waited for about 45 min in on a Monday for dinner. I had not seen any reviews yet, so I went there blindly trusting my friend's recommendation. First off, I am a steak girl, since the wee ages of 8 years old. I gotta admit, when I first saw the steak, I was a bit skeptical. Especially since I've had not seen any pictures prior, it looked like "cafeteria" food at first. But then after a few bites, I realized what the hype was about. It was really good, and I would definitely come back or visit one of its many locations, when I get the chance. I also appreciate the no frills, no option, no thinking involved in ordering. As soon as you sit down, their question is medium or rare? And that's that. Concept, uniqueness, and execution all 9/10.

The dessert menu - all made in house!

A great Paris experience awaits for steak frites lovers at Le Relais de l'Entrecǒte. The line gets long around 6 with opening at 6:30pm, so arrive early. Inside, the place is lively and since they only serve one meal, (green salad, steak frites) all you need to do is tell them how you like your steak cooked. Don't miss the desserts which are made in house! The family who owns the place also has a vineyard, so you can sip while you sup!

I debated whether it was worth waiting in line here, but surprisingly, we only waited about an hour and a half. The restaurant itself is very cramped, and unfortunately, the service left us feeling very uncomfortable. As an Asian group, we couldn't help but notice clear differences in how we were treated compared to the tables around us. Guests seated after us were served first, and we were consistently the last to receive our dishes. They serve steak in two portions, but ours didn't come out until every other table had already been taken care of. The staff smiled and were friendly to other customers, but when it came to us, they were noticeably cold and looked like serving us was a burden. As for the food: there's only 1 item on the menu: steak and fries. You start with a salad that is lightly dressed, and you can choose how the steak is cooked. The pepper sauce has a unique, curry-like flavor that's hard to describe. The fries were actually great and super crispy. Overall, I'd say the food is worth trying once for the experience, but the way we were treated definitely makes me not want to return.

tl;dr the classic bistro vibe and polarizing butter-herb sauce highlight an otherwise mostly standard version of steak frites Steak frites is a quintessential French bistro dish, and few Parisian restaurants are as devoted to the craft as l'Entrecote. The original location was established by Paul Gineste de Saurs (himself born to a family of reputable wine producers) in Porte Maillot in 1959. Since the beginning, l'Entrecote offered only a single entrée: steak frites. Bucking tradition, Gineste de Saurs outfitted his dish with a Café de Paris sauce. L'Entrecote has since spun into three offshoots, each operated by the founder's children; Le Relais de l'Entrecote is one such branch, with its debut location in Saint-Germain-des-Pres. Here, diners are offered a trim pre-fixe menu: simple green salad dressed in a Dijon vinaigrette, sliced sirloin (served in 2 portions) with their signature sauce, and all-you-can-eat shoestring fries. Only for the optional dessert do patrons have any selection. Outside, a handful of tables sit underneath l'Entrecote's crimson awning. The interior is minimalistically French. The light wood-panelled walls are decorated with two-pronged lamps and antique posters advertising spirits. Each table is pressed to a red-upholstered half-booth and decked with a red tablecloth, a disposable paper table cover, and mustard-yellow napkins. The staff wear matching black dresses with white trim. We arrived at l'Entrecote just prior to the lunch service, and we faced a sizeable line. Luckily, our party just made the first wave of diners. The salad course was tasty, if not standard; the baguettes sported a delicious flavor and an excellent crisp. The steak was served pre-sliced with a heavy helping of sauce, while waitresses rounded, dropping off scoops of fries. The steak varied in texture from tender to stringy, and the flavor was forgettable. In contrast, the butter-based sauce was quite memorable, if not divisive. The herby mix quickly grew on me, but my sister was less keen on it. The fries ranged from chewy to perfectly crispy. Service was an efficient, well-oiled machine. Our bill was 60 euros, and we were left too full to consider dessert. Notably, a diner can opt for salad a la carte for just 2 euros if they don't want to commit to the whole steak frites meal. When we left, a queue trailed far down the block. While not worth a visit out-of-the-way or a lengthy wait, l'Entrecote is at least a solid and reputable option for steak frites.

Instagram made me do it! There was a long line around the block ... must be awesome right? I think it's a bunch of people trying it because they see all the post on instagram which is why I went. I didn't think the food was worth the long line. Also, it's not unlimited serving of food as some post would make you think. You get like a second round of steak and fries. You're packed in like sardines. So much so, it might as well be categorized as family style because you're literally eating next to another family.

Is it touristy? Yes. But for good reason. This place was fairly close to our hotel. We were coming back from doing some site seeing and noticed a long line to a restaurant. We were getting hungry so decided to stop in. We waited about 20-25ish minutes in line, not too bad considering the line was wrapped around the block once we finished eating. The sauce the steak comes with is delicious!! The desserts were yummy and fries served hot. I prefer restaurants that have a small menu because they really take their time preparing. Our server was lovely as well. Great personality and on top of everything.

    Limoncello -- 4/10

Waited about an hour late at night -- and honestly, I'd wait again just to have this meal. Yes, it's definitely hyped up, but the rave reviews are well deserved. The fries were phenomenal (and I'm pretty picky when it comes to fries). You're served twice, which is such a nice touch -- I left full and completely satisfied. The flavor was great, the sauce was perfect and the meat was tender -- 10/10! *The limoncello wasn't great*

Amazing experience. Went here with two of my buddies and his girlfriend for his 21st birthday and was greatly impressed. I love the concept of the fixed menu that they have here offering a salad, bread, and steak frites. The service was amazing with them welcoming us and making his birthday very special. The ambiance is one that helps the environment of this place greatly as they open at 12:00 with a line already there to get in. People are lined up around the block to get in here.

Every single thing we ate (and there were many things) was mind-blowingly delicious. There were cocktails (and mocktails!): a Last Word (Monkey 47 gin, Green Chartreuse, Luxardo, lime) for him and a Golden Pear mocktail for me. Both were outstanding and we each had two. We had the Beefy Bravas--a mille feuille potato topped with beef tartare and caviar--the Tobiko Crab Salad, and the Thai Salad (with seared toro, it's easily the best Thai papaya salad I've ever had). All were bonkers awesome. For our meat course, the husband got the Wagyu Picanha (all evidence points to it being a remarkable piece of beef) and I got the veal filet. The veal was one of the tenderest, most delicious pieces of meat I've ever eaten. The haricots beets we got as a side were crisp and sweet, and the pommes purées were otherworldly (complimentary). This is where the good part stops. The atmosphere of the restaurant was fine. But it was HOT. It is unusually hot in Paris this week but it was stifling inside the restaurant. But we could have dealt with that (the food was that good). The really disappointing part, however, was the service. We waited 20 minutes for anyone to ask if we wanted drinks (the restaurant was not crowded) and another 25 for someone to ask if we wanted to order. For context, a couple who arrived 10-15 minutes after us got a bottle of wine and their first course before the server--the same server for both tables--ever came to take our order. And it was like that throughout the meal. It's a shame, too, because the meal was exceptional otherwise. The service was bad enough that we won't return.

Unfortunately, they don't let you eat a full meal at the bar, only snacks. We waited for a cancellation, and ultimately the bartender was able to speak to the manager and find us a table! The French chateaubriand was outstanding, perfectly cooked and with a flavor profile completely different than American beef. Side dishes were well made and tasty, and the wine list solid. The sommelier was particularly helpful; she was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and took great care of us. Professional service, high end dining, and an excellent menu. Highly recommended.

After a 1:15 hour lineup on a Wednesday night, we finally sat down. Started wjth a pleasant walnut salad and I particularly liked the volume and taste of the salad dressing. It featured wasabi like mustard flavour. Bread didn't come with anything and was unremarkable Next came two generous servings of frites (delicious and cooked well) and average quality beef sirloin in a unique but oddly brown sauce. You have a choice of steak doneness. A point is close to medium rare (touch higher) and is the right way to go. The cut is thin and it's smothered in sauce that will continue to cook it. It's also placed above candles to maintain temperature. Aside from the history it's a fairly pedestrian steak. It's basically a cut of average quality meat smothered in a sauce that wouldn't be necessary if the cut of meat was better. Service felt like it was a cafeteria staff dressed in French maid outfits. It was quick and we were in and out in 45 minutes. Such is the speed of having a single set menu. Note, it says that no shorts are allowed but they served plenty of people wearing shorts.
