Happy owner not sitting down. On his way home while the joint is still open.

Ok. I get it. Anthony bourdain. Open fire. Ginormous cuts of beef. French provincial. I can only speak about my experience tonight. I ordered an $85 bottle of wine. It was. A lesser CDP, but it's ok--yes I'm sitting here right now. Escargots. So much sand and dirt, I was crunching it between my teeth. I informed the server--not to gain another order--Just to let her know. So they brought a second half dozen. Less sand but still too much to bear. I make escargot at home. I buy the large burgundy snails. I rinse them, but never in my life. Have I ever seen any send them. Where are they getting these things? From the Seine?? THEN, my ribeye. It looked so attractive on the grill. Honestly, I prefer a striploin because it has some teeth to it, but I ordered the ribeye tonite because it's often among the tenderest cuts and it's among the few things on the menu that is less than 500 grams. Came with haricots vert and potatoes. It's worth mentioning that the grill man was feeding the fire with pieces of pine from packing crates. That's not only cheap wood that releases no real BTUs but being pine it releases sap and other toxins into the food that's cooking above it. Real amateur hour stuff going on here. Anyway, I cut into the steak and took my first bite. My first reaction was that this f'ing thing was never seasoned with salt and pepper. Ok. Maybe it's a Parisian thing ( I don't think so). It was complex unseasoned. And I realized, I was sitting 15 feet from the open fire, and I never once saw the bored chef put salt and pepper on anything. The chew. It was so tough, I think this may have been a rodeo animal. I salted the SOB and tried again. No better. I ate the your-grandmother-overcooked-them green beans and a few of the (yes, unsalted) potatoes and left 3/4 of the leathery meat on the plate and took my bottle of wine to sit at the bar. The owner was sitting there at the end of the bar, exactly in the same place as when I walked in. He's on his laptop, fat and slovenly, and dressed in a down jacket. When I walked in, he didn't even greet me. Some patron did. I was put off. Is this a neighborhood bar? A frat house?? She was sitting next to him and said hello, and that was the end of it. I literally had to find someone to help me find my place, my seat, my anything. So, I walked over to him, and quietly, politely, even sympathetically, told him that the meat was terrible. I went so far as to pull out my phone and showed him pictures of the steaks that I prepared at home, trying to convey to him that I know what I'm talking about. It was lost on him. He grunted. And for the time it took me to finish the rest of my bottle of wine, he glared at me, and discussed with the staff my something or other. This guy is the worst kind of restaurant owner. He doesn't give a damn. He's lazy. And he has no interest and the quality of his product. The restaurant owner doesn't sit down for three hours at the end of the bar, drinking wine, and checking his laptop, while his place is burning to the f'ing ground. To be honest, most of the customers look like college students or perhaps just a little older, and maybe they're not that picky. But I don't consider myself to be picky. I'm just looking for a decent piece of meat that I can chew, and subsequently swallow. It would be nice, too, if I didn't have to do my own seasoning on everything on my plate. I'm not a big salt guy. In fact, my wife and I always argue about whether there's too much salt on the food. On this food, however, there was not a drop of salt and not a drop of pepper. Hint: grilling 101. Season your meat, preferably a couple of hours before it hits the grill. Oh, and by the way that brings up another story. The grill master was slamming a piece of meat on the counter the entire time I was sitting there while he was waiting for the next order. I'm talking 100 times. Picking up a piece of meat, and slamming it down of the counter, just to keep himself occupied. What the hell is that? Is he bored, does he need some kind of relaxation technology? So unprofessional. And I have to say, he looked like he hated his job more than I hated my meal. I cannot imagine any reason in the world to eat here. It's dirty. It's lousy. And did I mention that the food sucks?? Addendum. Prior to posting this review I sent it to the restaurant to give them a fair chance to respond. Well what do you think they did? Yep. They took the offensive and attacked me. I dare say that this is the number one reason that this place is a disaster. Zero introspection. Well, there ya have it.

Robert et Louis is a historic gem in the Marais district, renowned for its simple yet flavorful French cuisine. The bistro has been around for decades and even hosted Anthony Bourdain in the first episode of *No Reservations*. The rustic execution of their dishes highlights the quality ingredients. We loved the perfectly cooked steak, buttery potatoes, and fresh salad. For appetizers, the blood sausage--though an acquired taste--is a French staple. This cozy spot is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic, time-honored French flavors.

I have been here a few times over the years and it is still a favourite! I love the cosiness of this place and the cramped familiarity. The welcome is always by an elderly gentlemen who sits at the bar with a bottle of white wine and oversees the nights proceedings. The fois gras (I know it is not a popular dish for all) is simply amazing. If there is just one place to have it - it is here. I had the entecote and he had the pork. It came with potatoes and a simple salad. Perfectly cooked. Food is simple and freshly grilled and always delicious. Staff are competent and matter of fact. No frills or airs in their service just prompt and direct delivery. I just love it and will return every time I am in Paris.

Only come here if you are big on steak, organ meats or other heavy red meat. There was very little else for someone looking for something lighter. And don't bother with the salad. It's just lettuce - no other vegetables. The proprietor is very nice, although I don't think he understood that sitting on a tiny bench at the communal table was excruciating. It's one of the reasons we left as soon as we could and didn't linger. The ambience near the open wood flame grill was great. Service was quick and efficient by Parisian standards.

    Steak for Two

My absolute favorite restaurant in Paris, a third generation family restaurant serving up incredible steaks and meat in an open fireplace kitchen. One of my friends told me about this place and I didn't believe it until I went. And then I went back for dinner every single night for the week that I was there. It's a super old building in Le Marais, run by the grandson of the original owners, Robert and Louise, hence the name. He lives upstairs with his family, and the personal family touches throughout the place just warm my former-family-business-owning heart. Reservations are recommended, but there are usually a couple of seats at the hosting table, which seems like the old family dining room table with bench seating right by the open kitchen. They cook all of the meat in a wood burning fireplace, carefully tended by the owner. The sights and smells are incredible, so I loved sitting right there, mesmerized the by the experience and expertise. The rest of the kitchen is tiny, as the menu is simple. They serve up a few different cuts of steak, along with duck, escargot, and some specials. You get a choice of two out of three sides, green beans, potatoes, and salad. After having literally everything on the menu, the steak for two is definitely the best, but everything is spectacular. My favorite bit is the salt. This this massive chunky gray salt from Guerande, and I highly recommend dousing everything with it. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, it makes you feel like you're family. There's also the basement seating area that is ridiculously cozy. I can't wait to go back on my next trip and feel like I'm coming home.

Loved this restaurant! They have a small kitchen upstairs where they cook the steak over an open fire and the cote de beouf was an incredible bite, with a perfect crust and paired beautifully with their salt and mustard. The escargot and the rest of the sides were really nice too. I will be thinking about that mustard for a long time.

A very lovely establishment! One you wouldn't think would have a "basement" or "cellar" as additional seating. The service was super friendly and the food was superb! Highly recommend if you're in Paris.

"Un des meilleurs repas de ma vie." One of the best meals of my life. The meat. Oh, how I will dream of the meat. Red and succulent. Cooked on a grill over an open flame. Basically how they'd have done it in a kitchen like that 500 years ago. And the place looks about 500 years old, in the very best ways, like stepping back in time. A reminder of what makes Paris the greatest city in the world: that the past lives in the present. A last note about the service. We've had a meal at a dozen different restaurants in Paris. Service was mostly OK. Here, it felt like we were family.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Robert et Louise! We entered just after our reservation time and were led to our downstairs table and provided a menu. It soon a few minutes for the busy staff to get to us but we enjoyed the hustle and bustle in this very uniquely decorated restaurant. Although the staff seemed to be flying about, when they came to see us, they focused on us and our needs. We didn't know the wines and my spouse wanted a Pinot noir so the waiter quickly got her a sample - he could have upsold us to a more expensive bottle but said the least expensive was very good and he was right. We tried the escargot (really good - lots basil paste) and mushrooms (delicious) as starters. For mains we had the shrimps (very very tasty) and the steak (their specialty). The steak is cooked over a small wood burning fire that you can watch if you are seated in the right spot. We had a glass of Armagnac as a digestif and the bartender even slid me a little extra once it was gone. Just a great experience!

Amazing entrecôte with potatoes and beans
    Evan D.

Amazing grilled meats at a very reasonable price. Loved both the duck and the entrecôte. Salad was good, snails were excellent and the potatoes and green beans were great too. Service was efficient and polite enough and it's a really neat old space with the visible wooden grill and the wood beams. Really neat to see the owner sitting in the corner chatting folks up and helping people with searing. Absolutely loved it -- will return

What can I say ... this restaurant is amazing !!! Walked in for our 6:30 reservation and were seated right away and greeted nicely by the guys in perfect English ... menu was also given to us in English ... the open fire grill is the star attraction here and the action is fast !!! We started with a foie gras that was creamy and perfect ... then we tried the escargot and they were perfectly cooked !!! We then shared a big 1kg steak, that was cooked to a perfect medium. Overall we loved the experience and the service. Will come again on the next trip to Paris.

This is a lovely little establishment. My brother and I had dinner here on the first night we spent in Paris. I did a quick google search for restaurants in/near the 3rd arrondissement and Robert et Louise came up many times. My brother made a quick reservation online and we showed up at the restaurant about 10 mins before it opened for the evening (6pm). Like I said, the restaurant is lovely inside. It has a cozy, rustic feel to it. I felt like I was eating in a place that had some history to it. The waiter asked if we would like to sit by the fire or the window and I foolishly said window. The window seat was fine but I say it was a foolish decision because they cook all of their meats over open flame and we would have had a front row seat to that. I won't make the mistake of not sitting by the fire again. Final note on the atmosphere- We ate upstairs but when I went to use the toilet, I walked downstairs and realized they had an additional dining room down there. The room had a cozy cave vibe to it and I would have been fine with dining down there as well. Now the important stuff- The food was absolutely magnificent. We figured we were in Paris (For the first time, no less!) so we should try some snails. I didn't regret it. They serve them with the classic parsley and butter sauce and they serve them in the shell so you can use a little tool to dig them out. Some people might not like to work for their food but I thought it was a fun, unique experience. Then for my entree I had the duck leg confit. It comes with a side salad and house made potato wedges/fries. The duck was amazing. The best I have ever had. The skin was deliciously crispy and the meat was tender and juicy and flavorful. The meat on the portion was substantial, as well. The side salad was simply lettuce with dressing but the dressing was incredible. It turned simple lettuce into a full and satisfying salad. The potatoes were good but they weren't particularly noteworthy. The service was very friendly. It was mostly young men who were waiting, tending bar, and cooking, and they were all very pleasant and accommodating. When I make it back to Paris, this restaurant is on my list of places that I have to visit again. I can't recommend them enough. We had an excellent time here.

We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. Maybe my timing was off? I didn't enjoy dining here as much as I hoped…read more I reserved and had New Year's Eve dinner at Chez Ferdinand Christine. I could only get the 8:30pm seating. When I arrived, there was a rustic table in the entry room where I was seated. I ordered an entrée of mini mushroom raviolis in truffle sauce, a plat of scallops over orzo which had chorizo chunks and a dessert of frozen Grand Marnier soufflé. The portions were generous. I enjoyed the mini mushroom raviolis and delicious Grand Marnier soufflé. The plat was somewhat odd because the chorizo chunks were really strong flavored which overpowered the scallops. I ate one chorizo chunk and pushed the rest aside. The scallops were cooked perfectly but not seasoned. The service was gruff/quite brief with dishes dropped by assistants. My biggest complaint was the stressful ambiance during the meal. It was freezing outside. The door constantly opened and new patrons came in hovering over diners in my room. Luckily I was not closer to the door and didn't have anyone over me. For ~170 Euros, the food was good but the experience was not.
