Nothing will come close to comparing! We heard good things about the hot chocolate here and wanted to check it out for ourselves after being out in the cold all day. We chose the spiced hot chocolate, as recommended by our server. It was absolutely delicious-- rich, flavorful, creamy, and everything that a hot chocolate should be. Although the price was a bit steep, we had enough for 4 small cups and it came with two scones and whipped cream on the side. We also got two "biscuits", which we thought were going to literal biscuits, but ended up being small pastries which were both tasty! We were lucky enough to snag the seats right next to the fireplace which ended up being the perfect way to spend an hour hanging out. We ended up coming back for a light dinner the same day and also really enjoyed our time. There was a live pianist performing which really elevated the dining experience. We started things off with some oysters, which honestly were some of the best I've had in a very long time. The dipping sauce was a bit strange and untraditional for me, but it was perfect with just a bit of lemon juice. We also got a burger to share, and when they accidentally brought out a side salad instead of the fries we requested, they let us keep the salad and brought a huge entire order of truffle fries for us (!!!) Canadians really have some of the best fries too because these were perfectly crispy and honestly didn't even need dipping sauce. The burger also didn't disappoint and was savory goodness. I wish we tried this place sooner! Would highly recommend, even if you're not staying at the hotel itself.

The pie crust was ok but the inside of the pie was rock hard meat that was sauceless and dry that chewing this meat made my jaws hurt. Just trying to swallow the meat inside the pie was so disgusting you could not possibly enjoy the food. Ambiance - cute and quaint. Very homey feel inside or you can choose to sit out on the patio where it was so hot. We decided to sit inside for this reason and it was nice and comfortable. Staff service - not bad. But nothing that stood out either. Overall - ok place if you looking for a quick bite. But the food is hit or miss. Your just taking a risk if you eat here. Conveniently, "Lueur" translates from French as "Glow" and this is the kind of spot that would probably be called "hip" if that word was actually still hip. Forget about it, let's just say what it is, it is super hip. The small bar counter is served by a team of three who do a big part of the cooking and guest interaction. The vibe is chill, fun and unpretentious. Dress code is basically "whatever". Lueur is clearly the fun cousin of Laurie Rafael next door, always poking at its older relative for being way too pretentious. Let's talk about the food. Every dish is absolutely remarkable. Dishes decorating the ever changing menu include masterpieces like a Beef tartare tartlet with bone marrow parsley butter, Saint Jacques scallops under a generous layer of truffle bechamel and Pear Chocolate Entermet. Everything is exactly as good as it sounds. The fascinating thing about Lueur is not just the concept, but the team of three who manages to pull off two back to back seatings, each of which lasts roughly three hours. They are masters of the craft, working really hard and have an unusual balance of chef skills along with customer service ability. I ordered steak frites and while the steak was edible it was overcooked medium to medium well. I could have cooked the steak better. Fries were lukewarm for both me and my wife which is sort of a sin in my book. The wife got chopped chicken on toasted bread with some sort of gravy. Her dish was not good. Bread tasted kinda weird as did the gravy though edible. Neither of us ate the chicken which tasted kind of old. Creme brulee for dessert was good. It is very telling that of all the Michelin restaurants across Canada, so many of them are concentrated in the Quebec City area. These people live for food! Their passion for local, quality ingredients are always showcased in ways that highlight the joy that eating brings to our lives. Taniere serves only chef's tasting menus, so do come very hungry! Like all restaurants of this caliber, the staff is a well-oiled machine. You will not experience better service than what you experience here. Every need is anticipated and everything is impeccably timed and choreographed. There is no hovering, but the team assigned to you is always nearby if you think you need them outside their "scheduled visits." [Which you won't.] You will start in one room with ancient stone tunnel ceilings. Here you will have some drinks to start and an amuse bouche. The staff will tell you about the history of the building, which is super interesting, and how they honor that history as well as use it for inspiration in their dishes. A short time later, you will be ushered to a second room, more consistent with what one might imagine when one imagines a Michelin dining room to look like. The space is beautifully enhanced with impactful art and stunning interior lighting. In here you will eat most of the courses of your meal. We got the wine pairing (which I insist you do as well) and this room is where their sommelier gets to shine. The pairings were so special and unique and like a good wine pairing should, truly enhanced each dish. We were looking up bottle after bottle to see if we could buy some of the wines back home. Sad news: many of these wines are very niche and special! Another reason to spring for the pairing when dining here. Last, you will be ushered into a final room evocative of a winter wonderland. Your final courses are served here. We were stupid full (and maybe a little tipsy) so we were happy to "people watch" and wind down in this calming room. This is an expensive meal, I won't lie to you. Add on the wine pairing, and....yeah, this is a special occasion meal for sure. Even considering the cost, I do not hesitate to say this should be at the top of your Quebec City dining priority list.
