This was our first night in Brussels and wanted to have a Belgian dinner. Stopped by this place on a whim. We got sat upstairs by the window with a view to the place with the Christmas lights and music. So awesome to have this view. We ended up having a new waiter during our dinner which was unexpected. We definitely preferred the second, nicer waiter, over our first. 4/5 - Cheese croquette - very tasty! Enjoyed this very much 2/5 - Mussels - arrived very late - had to remind the waiter twice and because of that they were a bit cold - could be served with bread for the soup 3/5 - Waffle - I wish this was loaded with all the toppings but it was very bare bones. Just okay. The beers are huge! I wish the service better but the view to the show was very nice. The best thing about our visit!
Another great meal at Le Roy! Started off with the garlic shrimp, which were soaked in butter, and perfect to dip some bread into. I had the Steak Americaine with Frites - expecting it to be a cooked steak. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised with Steak Tartare. It was absolutely amazing. I had a side of Bernaise to dip my frites, and I can't wait to have it again! The service was standard and the wine, amazing.
Great location right at the Grand Place square... Lovely place, in a great location and with generous outdoor seating. The ambiance was like you stepping into medieval times. They have a nice open fireplace and fantastic scenery. We got the table after some time. Though we wanted to sit outside, but it was raining. We ordered Jupiler beer ( 330 & 550 ML), Hoegaarden Rosee, Chimay Blanche, Gauffre Roy, Portion De Frites and I don't know the name of the rest. In simple English, we ordered 2 beer, some fish with onion rings, Ice cream over Waffle, Famous Belgium fries. Fries were okay, not that famous taste: P I liked my Jupiler beer. Taste-wise, it was not that bad. Moreover, we enjoyed our time together. Oh, I almost forgot, I had to mention the service. Though I did not catch the waiter's name but he was not good at what he was doing. I don't care if you have to see all the tables yourself, but don't talk rudely. I was meeting with my friends after a very long time. 2 of them came from Amsterdam and rest came from another part of Belgium and we all met here. All I was asking the waiter to take a snap and I did ask 3 times. All I got was a rude answer, "can't you see I am buys OR I will come to you when I will finish". Not cool, and that too when he added 4 euro tip himself at the end of the bill. Tip for Men - checkout there men's bathroom. It's hilarious.
We really enjoyed this place. We came for the experience of eating at an establishment that had history and was in the square. We had a view of the Grand Place from our table. Our server was really nice and helpful With the menu and checked on us occasionally. We ordered the Flemish beef stew and schnitzel cordon bleu. The beef stew is on the sweet side, which I don't mind and is great with the accompanied fries. We also had a rosé and merlot with our meals. Also, if you want water, they don't serve tap so you must purchase bottled water.
We had a 5.5 hr layover in Bruxelles so took the train into town. Pretty standard. I had the Flemish Style Beef in Leffe Brune Sauce which was a beef stew with a large artichoke heart in the center (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/le-roy-d-espagne-bruxelles?select=3hwO68d3apGpQARKxYbBVw#fKIjpeycCqVOxKieSHVX6g). Tasted like my mom's pot roast and was short on the beef. Definitely needed some bread to sop up the gravy. I was expecting some crispy twice cooked deliciousness. Slow service; our second round of drinks arrived as we were almost done eating. Maybe better outside where more of the waiters were. €0.35 for the toilet so don't go upstairs without some change.
Due to its central location, I assumed this was a tourist trap but i was actually pleasantly surprised with my experience. First, the service was fantastic despite being slightly understaffed. My server was great in helping me navigate the large menu. In terms of food, very impressed. The Flemish stew and fries were delicious and the beer selection was great. All in all, highly recommend this spot for lunch while you're walking through the square and surrounding areas.
I'm not generally pleased with eating in super touristy areas because the food is expensive and not so good. Unhappily, Le Roy is no exception to the rule. While it definitely has a lovely view (I mean, how nice is it to sit outside and stare at the buildings of the Grand Place!?!?!), you pay for it for with inadequate service and average food. After too long of a wait to get seated and noticed, I ordered a kriek and stoemp, which came with pork sausage...or so I thought. Imagine my surprise when my plate arrived! It was stoemp, a sausage, and huge piece of spare rib, which I was not expecting! Happily, the spare rib turned out to be the best part of the meal. The stoemp was kind of flavorless, and the sausage was just ok. Both were served with a brown gravy that tasted like watered down BBQ sauce. My kriek was fine, but twice as expensive as anywhere else I had been. Go elsewhere for a meal and drink!
Being in the heart of Brussels' Grande Place, I was concerned this restaurant would be a tourist trap... and I was kinda correct. I ordered the tagliatelle with pesto and shrimp, and while the portion was generous, the dish lacked flavour. We went during the last night of Ommegang, so the center was busy, to say the least. For that reason, I will attribute the inattentive service to the unusual crowd size. I'm full, but I wouldn't recommend this spot unless you're going for convenience, or the people watching.
This place is right on the main square. It has a lot of character and the inside is rustic, wooden and beautiful. It is primarily Spanish oriented but with all the Belgian mainstays. The service was incredibly friendly and considerate. We were first placed at a very small table, but before ordering our server made sure we had a better place when another party left. I ordered a dark beer, forever wonderful. and the Belgian stew made with beer. It was just a fairly adequate portion and came with small slices of dark bread in it. After having some wonderful stews in Belgium this stew was disappointing. The beer chunks was very chewy with a lot of fat and grizzle. The gravy was tasteless. It came wirh fries which were good. My dining companions had the specialty of Brussels with potato, bacon and sausage. I tried some and regretted not getting it. It was far better The bread that came with the meal was ordinary. This seems to be a place that primarily attracts tourists. That's understandable knowing the location. There's both inside and outdoor seating. read more

We ordered two Beers Triple Karmeliet.They tasted smooth . We also got two Belgium beef stew. Didn't like our stew .Too sweet for our pallet. French fries were good . They also gave us basket of bread .Akso our bag was stolen from inside the restaurant . We were all sitting together . It was an inside job . Do not come here . They never helped us . just showed us where the police station was . read more
Perfect outdoor spot to have breakfast! We ordered the Gran Fain which comes with 1 egg (scrambled or fried), grilled bacon, 2 rolls, a croissant, hot drink, and orange juice all for 14 euros. Everything was great, the egg was super fluffy, the bacon was divine, and bread is always good! For my hot drink, I ordered the hot chocolate and got to make it myself which was so fun and absolutely delicious. The only reason for 4 stars is because we never received our OJ :( read more

Awful steak....Entrecorte 12 oz pink....literally the worst steak of my life. Tough, could hardly cut it. My wife's Grilled Steak...6 oz.was fine. The worst steaks in the US are higher quality than this one. The manager offered to give us our drinks for free. read more

Our first stop in Brussels and felt very comfortable with the service and ambiance. Excellent food too. Loved the seating on 1st floor.. great view of the palace square. read more

Had the shank with Ham for Lunch. Couldn't believe I ate the whole thing. It was that tasty. So I went back for dinner at the same restaurant. This time I order rabbit with wine sauce. Had to try their Local Specialty. Eat what the Locals eat. Tasty read more

We ended up here (which was actually right around the corner from our Air BnB) after Yelp had the operating hours wrong for many places for breakfast on Sunday and it was either here or the Starbucks next door as we needed to leave quickly to get to the Eurolines station. It's a tourist trap-extremely high prices. That should not be a surprise because it's right in the Grand Place, the number 1 tourist destination in Brussels. It was crowded in the outside seating area but we did manage to snag one of the last tables. The first time our server approached was after we had been sitting there for at least 10 minutes. We both had Americanos and (of course) were charged 6 euros for water. I had an omelette with ham and cheese. It was delivered in a cast-iron skillet and was nicely browned ontop and hot in the middle. It was fabulous actually but the price on the menu was different than what was written on a chalkboard and it cost close to 17 euros! My husband ordered a waffle with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and strawberries. I was surprised at how small it was for the price. He said it was "ok". He agreed my omelette was delicious. Our bill ended up being 40 euros which was far too expensive for breakfast food! Not that it wasn't good but the value was clearly lacking. Oh and if you sit outside, everyone smokes so don't sit outside if that bothers you. read more

Got waffles?! This being my first time in Belgium I had to try the waffles and of course the fries. When in Rome right?! as we were in a foreign land I used yelp to help me locate a good restaurant. "Yelp don't fail Me now" is all I could say. With that being said I couldn't read the reviews because they weren't in English, so I had to rely on the star ratings and of course the FOOD PICS. (Thank u fellow helpers). I came across this place as I looked across the courtyard of where we were dropped off by our tour guide. Table seating outside (perfect). I see fries and beer and happy customers and a server passing with a waffle and cream . While I will admit the prices are a little higher than I expected we decided to stick to our game plan in order to leave room to try other goodies on our walkabout. This place did not disappoint. The waffle was so light and airy with a crispy exterior that tells us we are doing waffles wrong in the US. Our server was friendly and humorous which made our visit even more enjoyable and memorable. Must haves - fries with mayo and waffles with cream. We also learned that certain beers are served in certain glasses. read more
The location can't be beat, and the wide range of Belgian and other dishes is great for any visitor. We had the moules marinière, stoemp, and spaghetti bolognaise while dining on the patio. The seating is rather compact and during peak times you'll need good luck tracking down the waitress. But the food portions are generous and you can have some prime people- and architecture-watching while favoring local delicacies. We wandered here after being turned away from another restaurant nearby since we wanted to have lunch and it was still before noon. If I take out-of-town visitors to sightsee in Brussels again I'd return here. Sipping beers, chowing down Belgian delicacies, and giving some background on the city and its history while looking at its most important sights, you can do it all from this patio. read more
A perfect little spot to hang outside while having a Belgium beer and taking in the beautiful Grand place Square! We each tried the house beer and the ever famous bitterballen! It's a gravy like consistency that is deep fried into little balls *. Tastes like thanksgiving dinner in a deep fried ball! They give a little mix of crackers when you buy a beer! Been a couple times now over a few year span & both experiences were fine. Decent food (the meatballs with apple sauce on my most recent visit was excellent) & service. Great view, too. Pan it if you want for being on tourist row, but I don't see the point... it's a serviceable option if you're in the area... which, by the way, is far more tolerable & interesting than most touristy areas I've been to in other places. read more

We came here after getting into Brussels on the train. The waiter messed up on all of our orders and none of us got the correct omelets. However, the omelet was big and filling but bland and obviously didn't have the correct toppings. The bread they gave us was good though. read more

It is right in the Grand Place, due to rain, the restaurant wasn't busy... but there seems to be a confusion among the waitstaff on who is supposed to sit us.... After we sat down, it took another 15 minutes before anyone come by to give us the menu... we had to flag down the waiter to place our order... surprisingly the food was delivered pretty fast... portion are generous, however, the flavors are bland and mediocre... can't find the waiter to get our check, had to walk up to the manager to get service... waitstaff seems to be shorthanded, manager was too focused on chatting with customers than to provide any assistance. read more
