It began when a door-to-door salesman entered my backyard uninvited, asking if I'd be interested in scheduling a consultation for gutter guards. After missing the first appointment, they rescheduled and sent a young representative -- driven by his mother -- to my home. He showed me glowing reviews and described their services, but I made it clear I was only researching options and had no intention of signing anything that day. I had just completed a major project resurfacing the parking lot of a four-unit apartment complex and wasn't ready to commit to another expense. The rep measured my gutters in minutes and claimed the job could be completed in one day. Then came the pricing games: a "buy today" price of $5,000 versus a "buy tomorrow" price of $10,000 -- double the cost. I told him the pricing was outrageous and that pressuring me like that was unacceptable. I asked why the $5,000 price couldn't be honored if I called back in two weeks. He refused.
