When we first met, though, Jack came very prepared and gave us a great presentation and booklet explaining the process. When it came time to list our house, the listing and photography were done very well. Our biggest challenge was that the market simply wasn't producing many showings. I'm pretty proactive, so I decided I wanted to get aggressive with the price rather than sit around waiting. Jack was completely supportive of that strategy and, more importantly, was willing to be flexible and work with us to make sure we retained as much of our equity as possible. That's ultimately where I really appreciated Jack's style. He didn't fight us for control of the process or try to convince us that he knew better just because he was the agent. He listened to what we wanted, gave us room to make decisions, and supported us when we wanted to move aggressively. Looking back, what initially felt a little hands-off actually had some significant advantages. Jack wasn't pushy, didn't make the process about himself, and was willing to adapt to how we wanted to sell our home. We hired Amber Donnelly of Century 21 Tahoe North Realtors as our agent for the sale of our property and home in Clio, CA. This was the most unpleasant real estate transaction we have ever experienced because of (name of realtor) performance. Our first complaint is in regards to her marketing. Instead of the promised professional photography, we were dissatisfied because the photos were taken on her iPhone. The video was posted with misspellings and an incorrect location. The winter photos that we provided were not included as we agreed. In addition, we clearly told her that we did not want signs leading to our listed property due to its location. We did not want prospective buyers going to the house in its isolated area and wanted to avoid disruption to our neighbors on the private access road. The realtor placed signs in spite of our insistence that she not do so. She even posted signs on our neighbor's property! Amber blamed us for the signs placement and this was the first of many times she faulted us for her errors. On top of all this, she wrote the neighbor's address on the listing agreement and it took three phone calls for me to get her to correct this. Amber also posted the listing on MLS with her phone number and my email address. Communication with Amber was infrequent and unpleasant. Instead of writing or calling me, she would forward email exchanges from the buyer's agent. It was extremely difficult to reach her by cell (there was no landline available to reach her) due to the rural location of our property and her office. When I was able to contact my agent, she complained about my lack of understanding about the emails to the buyer's broker. I expect a realtor to be my agent and talk to me - - not expect me to decipher email correspondence from the buyer's representative. During more than one conversation, Amber screamed at me over the telephone about the signs and over transaction details. Several times, Amber assigned tasks to her assistant and this was nearly always a disaster. The assistant brought incomplete packets for us to sign, didn't know what transactions needed to be completed and I had to explain to the assistant which forms needed signatures because Amber failed to make this clear to her employee. Amber failed to deliver a notice to perform to the buyer's agent when a deadline was missed. The notice to perform was not sent until I asked the assistant to do so. This is in breach of our contract with Amber. After the appraisal, 30 days passed and Amber didn't check into a reason for the delay by the lender. The lender couldn't make a loan on that type of property. Therefore, the loan process had to begin with a new lender because our agent did not pay attention to the lender's decision and when it was made. This added 30 days to escrow. We received a second offer, so I asked about counter offers. My emails and phone calls were ignored and I never had an answer about contingency offers or counters. In summary, Amber Donnelly was the seller's agent -- our agent -- and failed to treat us professionally and was discourteous from March 4th to August 17th. I was yelled at and repeatedly told, "That's the way we do things up here." Common courtesy, attention to detail, respect, and follow through are universal behaviors expected from any professional. I would never recommend Amber Donnelly as a realtor to anyone.
