I don't know why Leap Weddings only has 13 reviews on Yelp at the moment, but I do know why they're all 5-stars. These guys are amazing!!! My wife and I hired Ben and his team to shoot our wedding at Salvage One last July and are so so so glad we did. Our expenses were quickly adding up for the wedding, and videography had been something we thought we could save a few grand on and do without. About 3 weeks before the wedding we changed our minds and I discovered Leap Weddings while googling something like "not cheesy wedding video chicago". With so little time before our big event, we were extremely fortunate that Ben was available to shoot our on our day. We went in to meet with him and his crew... You immediately get a sense of who you're working with from their space alone. It's a very cool old loft space, complete with an indoor swing... I immediately knew these were my kind of people! Ben is the kind of guy you feel instantly comfortable with and know you can trust. He's chill, reasonable, knowledgeable, and fun... All attributes we wanted in someone who would be shadowing us on our wedding day. I should also add that Steph has been great in the post-production process... Always diligently answering our questions and tending to our requests, all with a warm and friendly demeanor. But lets talk video... First of all, Ben shoots with hardcore SLRs, so you get video that's rich and has depth (unlike the crisp but flat video of the past). The cameras are also much smaller and less intrusive this way. I contracted with Ben for him to do a two camera shoot and he showed up with three, just to make sure he got absolutely everything. A three camera shoot was supposed to cost a lot more, but he didn't charge us any extra... This is the kind of guy he is. All I can say is wow!!! The videos are amazing... lots of super cool "creative segments" (short montages set to music, sort of like a music video), and full segments of all the big events (ceremony, speeches, etc). Nothing is cheesy in any way, in fact it's just the opposite. Everything was shot and edited with a very fresh, modern, artistic style... From the angles, to the pans, to the creative use of focusing. Everyone we've shown any of the creative segments to has been totally blown away... They say things like "whoa, I've never seen a wedding video anything like that... It's so cool and professional... Looks like a movie or something!" Steph also uploads some of the segments to Vimeo, for simple (high quality) sharing with family and friends... Very convenient. I couldn't imagine not having these videos... We will truly treasure them for a lifetime, and will enjoy watching them with our children (and maybe even our grandchildren) one day. There's not much more I can say than thank you Ben and everyone at Leap weddings... You really came through, and have given us the greatest wedding gifts we could have asked for! read more

With my wedding fresh in my mind, being that I just got married Saturday, I will tell you one thing...these people are amazing. Every aspect of this crew is impeccable. Steph is the calming force that every bride needs. Always there to answer any and all questions. She makes you feel as if you are her only client (even though they have tons). Ben is so creative with each client...catering to each of their own needs. Our two videographers were doing shots of my dress and rings and just such cool things...I sat back in amazement. And this is what I got: a punctual, polite, creative, fun, laid back, detail orientated, professional and QUICK photographer. His name is Frank. Frank did an AWESOME job. Awesome. Let me first start off by saying that my then fiancé was not happy about the cost of a videographer, let alone Leap Weddings. But you get what you pay for, right? RIGHT. I posted a status on Facebook asking for videographer suggestions and got bombarded with companies. I watched multiple videos from every single suggestion plus some I randomly chose off The Knot. Not ONE compared to Leap. My fiancé, Bryan, couldn't come with me to meet with Ben and Stephanie so I had to beg him to trust me and let me book them. Thank god I'm persuasive. Ben was exactly what I was looking for in a videographer. Some people treat weddings as this stuffy occasion and I was just looking to have fun and celebrate the marriage to my soulmate. Ben totally got that. When we met with them a week before our wedding, Bryan was finally on board. He could tell why I went with Leap. On our wedding day, Ben and Josh made everyone feel so comfortable. It was like they were a part of our bridal party. They were so fun. I'm very comfortable in front of a camera but Bryan is pretty shy. He said he had so much with Ben and Josh and they made it so easy and relaxing. A month later we were out for St. Patrick's Day downtown and Bryan goes "you should text Ben and see if he's out". If after only one whole day you feel like you're good friends with someone, chances are they're pretty awesome. Our parents and bridal party had nothing but good things to say about them. We just received our video and I'm honestly speechless. It's absolutely amazing. Unreal. I can relive it over and over again in under 12 minutes. Can I add several more stars?? To borrow directly from a previous review, which stood out to us when we were looking for a videographer over a year ago: "Holy freaking crap you guys." My husband and I can't get over how beautifully they captured the day. The creative video is like a long-form trailer for the whole wedding day. They also give you video of the full ceremony and the reception's main events, which are very well done, but the creative film is the star. When scoping out videographers, I watched many videos on their site and cried at nearly every one, and I don't even know these people in the videos. Now imagine how much more I cried when we got our video! While all the videos (ours included) appear to have several artistic elements in common, the videos never feel cookie-cutter. LEAP is so good at capturing the uniqueness of each couple and their story. That is no accident--in our initial meeting, and especially the final meeting before the wedding, they asked us a lot of questions about who we are and what's important to us...it was like therapy, without the issues or need to vent. Josh, Don, Talia, and Steph were all just so easy and enjoyable to be around, from first meeting to wedding day. The LEAP crew is one you'll miss when the wedding day is done, guaranteed. As other reviewers mention, LEAP doesn't come cheap - but what you get is worth every dollar and more. One of my bridesmaids in my wedding worked with LEAP Weddings to give me the greatest wedding gift I could have ever asked for. While I did have a videographer for the day of my wedding, this gift was actually a video put together PRIOR to my wedding day that was shown at my rehearsal dinner. What I loved about this concept is how unique it was. My friend worked with LEAP to create a masterpiece of love, humor, and real emotion from the most important people in mine and my husband's life. The team got every person in our bridal party and every close family member of ours to interview for the video. A lot of our bridal party wasn't local but it didn't matter because the team was able to take interview responses from people who they weren't physically able to interview on camera. They also had shot our actual engagement and engagement photos which brought our love story together flawlessly. I had been given a few hints of footage that was going to appear in the video, but when I actually saw it in full the night of the rehearsal dinner, I couldn't contain my emotions. Our particular video was around 30 minutes and it was so moving that it felt like only 5 minutes had past when it was over and I wanted even more. It was hilarious, it was heartfelt, it was tear-jerking, and it was put together in such an incredible fashion that I could have never imagined. I heard from almost everyone that attended our rehearsal dinner that it was one of the most special things they had ever witnessed and I was lucky to have such an amazing friend who would coordinate putting it together. I've known Ben and the good people at Leap weddings since I started in the beauty side of weddings 10 years ago. Both myself and my husband have grown to love and adore Ben Mahoney, not just for his vivacious personality but for his outstanding level of skill and talent in videography. We initially started looking at videographers in the Pacific Northwest and we quickly found that none lived up to our expectations. (My husband is in the film industry) We then knew it was time to shoot Ben an email and see what their schedule was like for our wedding. I didn't really know what to expect in our Wedding Highlights video - thought it would be the usual video footage of prepping before the wedding, the ceremony and then the reception... My husband and I hired LEAP to film our wedding. LEAP both streamed the wedding live and created a beautiful edited wedding video for us. We only had 17 guests at the wedding due to the pandemic, but LEAP made all of our digital guests feel like they were there in person. They had great materials and examples of their exceptional work, and were very accommodating with scheduling time to chat via phone and in person given that we were planning from out of town. We used Leap Weddings (formerly Ben Mahoney Productions) for our Nov 2010 wedding. We started our videography search like most couples - unsure if we should even spend money on it and if so, the basic video would probably do. After meeting with Ben & Stephanie (found the company on yelp) I knew instantly we needed a video, basic wouldn't do and we needed to work with their company! They were great to work with during the pre-wedding planning process. That day the two shooters showed up on time, knew exactly what to do, and were so unobtrusive we barely knew they were there. They were also very easy to be around which is important to consider because these people will be with you all day long. We recently received our DVD and we are so happy with their work I don't think a word has been invented yet that would accurately capture how thrilled we are that we chose to work with this company. You get your ceremony and the main parts of the reception (entrances, toasts, dances, cake cutting etc) to make your parents happy but they also make sections of your day (example, bride getting ready) into music videos (the best way I know how to describe them) and they are so darn cool! We were surprisingly happy with every vendor we worked with but after seeing our video I would be most upset if we didn't decide to work with Ben. After your day is over all you have are your pictures and your video. We were so happy with our pictures but the video gives you a different type of connection back to your wedding day because well it is a video! We caught so many touching, fun and funny things that happened that we missed during that day or didn't remember. It is worth skimping elsewhere in your budget to work with this company! read more

It was a pleasure having him (and Aaron) there with us on our on special day. Thank GOODNESS for Leap Weddings and the one and only Ben Mahoney! I got married in October and I truly don't know what I would have done without Ben and his team. For one, I have been an admirer of Ben's work for years. I have worked with him on a professional level and have watched almost every one of his wedding videos (in preparation for my big day, of course!). He is legitimately the best. Personally and professionally, I have never met a better videographer. Secondly, my wedding planner DID NOT SHOW UP for my wedding (yes, this is true). Thankfully, Ben was at our last planning meeting and literally played both master videographer and wedding planner. I didn't actually want a wedding planner from the beginning, but I was advised to have one for the day-of. I gave up control (again, against my better judgment) and if it wasn't for Ben picking up the pieces, it could have been a disaster. Ben for sure saved the day on the day of our wedding, but more importantly, we have the most beautiful, treasured, unbelievable video of our day - before the ceremony and after. I have never received more compliments in my life than I did on this one 7-minute magical piece of video. On top of it all, Ben et al. are the nicest, funniest, most charming, hilarious, best people that you'll want around on your big day. I swear, Ben and my dad were BFF by the end of the night. That does NOT happen everyday. They were a true pleasure to work with, and on a day when all you care about is being surrounded by friends and family, they blended in with those treasured people. They became our friends and family that day. Where do I even start? Firstly, if you're trying to decide if you need a videographer for your wedding or not...you probably don't. UNLESS it's LEAP Weddings. Trust me. You. Need. Them. We didn't think we wanted or needed a wedding video. We're awkward on camera; we didn't think we'd actually want to see ourselves moving in action. We didn't value videos like we value photos of us together over the years. Still, we wanted to at least see what's out there. So, we weaved over countless wedding videos from wedding videographer companies. Both of us agreed that all the other companies were beautiful, but for us, the money wasn't worth it. It wasn't something we were sure we would want to watch more than once a year. Then one day, I asked my wedding day photographers (shoutout Juancho SC) for any recommendations and they suggested LEAP Weddings. I watched one video from LEAP and I still remember the feeling I had...I was shocked. I felt like I was watching an episode of a new wedding TV series. Only the good parts, no drama of course ;). I knew they were different from anything we had seen. I was particularly drawn to their videos labeled "The Principal Experience" on YouTube. They had such a unique style and you could see the complete dedication to telling the couples love story in the most authentic way; through the words of the couple and their loved ones. Even their "trailer" interpretation was unique in that it was a nice summary of the evening and not your typical "wedding day trailer." You know what I mean if you've looked around. No cheesy 2 minute video with slow music and even slower walking. Just authentic storytelling with natural sound bites mixed in with the background music. We knew we had to go with them and after looking things over, we decided on the "Principal Package." This included elements from all the lower level packages but included a narrative filming of the couple, family, and friends. Not only did we get an amazing video including those interviews, but we got beautifully edited videos of the ceremony and reception. I've watched a lot of wedding videos and let me tell you, the quality was unreal. They made sure to get multiple angles of things like the speeches so that our reaction to the speeches were included at the perfect time. All three works of film were so carefully edited and cut and we can tell they took their time making sure that we were given a cohesive and unforgettable complete package. The music selection, the transitions, and just everything about the complete work was amazing. Everyone who worked on it (editor Roxanne and creative director Becky) made sure to deliver something special. We have a newfound appreciation for videography and the work that goes into creating. We can confidently say, no other company would have provided us with what they did. They made us feel comfortable around them, and were patient with us in every way. Joshua made sure to call us before the wedding and took his time getting to know us. He really enjoys what he does and we ended up being on the phone for an hour just laughing about our relationship over the years. The flow of the day was awesome thanks to Joshua, Luis, and Cesar working so well together. They are so much more than your typical wedding day videographers. They are family heirloom creators; they give you something that you'll watch over and over again for generations to come. It feels like we have the most touching love letter written simultaneously by the most important people in our lives, but it's captured on film. It is a serotonin booster that we, our families, and friends cherish so much already. They were worth every penny and more. Bailey communicated thoroughly and was always prompt with responses to emails. They were so flexible to work with, considering we had to change our wedding date due to the pandemic. We spent 2+ years emailing back and forth and they made the process as easy as possible. I would absolutely work with them again and again and recommend them to anyone who will listen! I had an excellent experience with Leap Weddings for my July wedding, but I waited to write the review after I saw the finished product. The video exceeded all of my expectations! Jack and Josh shot the wedding. They were extremely professional, but also fun and they were able to put us at ease with the process, which isn't always easy with a bunch of cameras on you. The lights and cameras were never in the way and they were not a distraction during the ceremony or any other parts of the wedding. Our photo shoot pre-ceremony did not go as expected and we missed a couple of our locations, but they took advantage of the time we had and got great footage of our bus ride back to the venue. They also helped me keep my sanity at a stressful moment. We love the final product and are so happy that we worked with Leap Weddings. There are so many moments in the video that could not have been captured in the photos. I will treasure these videos and can't wait to watch them all again with our family over the holidays. What can I say about this company? If you are in need of a videographer DON'T pass up the opportunity of meeting this team. It seriously was a start to finish awesome experience! Was getting married, wanted a videographer and immediately was attracted to the look and creativity of samples I saw online with Leap Weddings. I was down and out with our research because I felt like what one company offered another didn't but when my husband and I set up an appointment and sat down with Ben and Stephanie I knew this they were the team that was going to be filming our wedding. Here is why: Pre-wedding: -They take the time to get to know you a little bit before even diving in to what you do. -Their team is personable and fun! It's obvious they like what they do. -They have good ideas and work with you to capture what is important to you. -They showed us different samples while we were there and showed no impatience with us wanting to see more or ask more questions. -They have different types of cameras to capture those traditional shots you may want as well as give it that old film vintage glam feel. -They have a good ear for music! We were amazed at their editing capabilities and how they matched music to chapters. Loved that they took the music we wanted in there and offered to add music on their own. -They are responsive on email with any questions/concerns you have -I thought their pricing was justified, offer a variety of package and some cool extras! -They had us fill out a questionnaire prior to the wedding to help the day of. -We left feeling really great that this team would be filming our wedding. Wedding day: -On time, so nice and felt really comfortable having them there. -Didn't feel like they were intruding at all! -We had Aaron as our lead and with a broken foot he still did an amazing job! -They were patient towards the end of the night when they prob were so over us:) -Knew the shots to get! Video: -Came nicely packaged in the mail and on time -Both my husband and I thought after watching that they captured the day in a way photos just can't do. We were so pleased. -Chapters were laid out well -Speeches and ceremony to the entirety -Voice overs from time to time -Used different types of cameras or so it seemed to give some chapters a different look and feel. I will say this to those looking for a videographer, if you just want your day taped and don't care how it's done, I don't know if this crew is for you. They really invest time and care into their work and it shows. They want you to care so they can give you something great. Absolutely succeeded with us!! My husband and I discovered Leap Weddings through our photographer - Carasco Photography, also located out of Chicago. They mentioned Leap as a great team they often partner with for weddings. When we went on Leap's website and Vimeo site and watched (literally) every single video clip they had, it was a no-brainer. These guys, under Ben Mahoney's leadership, are truly the best in the business. We went into our consultation interview with Stephanie and Ben, and we were sold instantly. Their studio is a very cool, modern apartment loft, and it really felt like a genuine artistic environment. These are quality people, they are so creative and original in every piece of work we've seen, including our own, and they really made us feel valued and important - we knew we could trust them with documenting the most important day of our lives and doing it in a unique, personal way for us. One thing I noticed when we were searching for our videographer is that a lot of companies seem to create the same thing for every couple...same shots, same angles, same everything. You don't get that with Leap. You get a unique piece of art that is original just for you and your day. During the wedding day, I have to add how professional they were. Ben was the lead shooter for the day, and both him and his assistant arrived early and were eager to capture everything. They were present but in no way obtrusive, and they were actually a REALLY fun addition to the day! They were with us and our families and our bridal party for hours at a time and everyone loved them could tell they were both fun and very professional. They didn't rush to leave at the exact minute that our contract ended, but they made sure they captured everything we wanted and everything they wanted in order to make an amazing piece of art. Ben and the editors had freedom to select songs they felt fit into the styles that we offered them. After all, they're the artists. Now that we've received the final product, we are absolutely blown away by the wedding video. It is such a beautiful, hilarious, authentic piece of art and I can't believe we will have it forever to re-live whenever we want and share with our friends and families for a lifetime. I've watched it dozens of times already from start to finish, I've watched segments at at a time, I've shown tons of family and friends, and it never gets old. The first time I watched it, I cried, I laughed, I cried from laughing...seriously it was incredible! Everyone has been so amazed at the quality or picture, quality of sound, the uniqueness of the filming and editing, and just how awesome the footage was and how it really captured how absolutely fun, beautiful, and incredible the wedding day was! I'm sure everyone feels that way about their wedding video, but I have to say that Leap blew our hopes out of the water, and we had REALLY high hopes because my husband and I already knew how quality Leap was from the other reviews and other wedding videos and segments we had watched online already. We LOVE all the song choices, and the footage was beautiful. But more than that, I think what is so unique about Leap is the way all the footage was captured; the uniqueness and creative angles and glances, funny faces, sweet moments, it's amazing how it allowed me to totally re-live the wedding day completely, and more so. We cannot thank you Leap and Ben and everyone involved enough for the work they did in making our wedding day last forever. We feel so humbled and we are so grateful for Ben's work the day of the wedding, the final product, and just Leap as a business in and of itself.
