Tried to give this place a shot, very disappointed. Definitely not a "Jewish Deli" as advertised here, it is a Boars Head sandwich shop and not much else. Don't come in expecting to see any fish other than a bowl of old tuna salad. No latkes, no kugel, no soups at all when I went, and I didn't see any pickles either. Just sandwiches and pasta salad. I decided to order a large sandwich on a sub roll, and my partner ordered a large on white bread. Noticed after placing the order that the entire place smelled heavily like burnt motor oil (I originally thought it was the customer ahead of me) so I assume they recently had some heating issues. They definitely should have aired it out and scrubbed the walls because not only does it stink, it's probably unhealthy and unsanitary. Food came out quickly enough, but the "large" sub roll is apparently no more than 7 inches long and not very filling. Both sandwiches were served on stale bread (the white bread was particularly stale) and were definitely overpriced - our lunch of two sandwiches while splitting a soda and chips cost about 40 dollars and neither one of us felt full. I see other sandwiches here are pictured toasted, but that option was not offered to us. The actual taste of the sandwich was mediocre at best. I won't be returning. read more

I really like this place! I come here a couple times a week for lunch. They have two really good vegetarian sandwiches - the caprese and Sierra. Sometimes they have an egg salad sandwich on special too. Love that they offer a deli pickle - mmmm they're so good and at $1.29 a pretty good deal. I also started ordering their salads this week, and they are delicious. Really fresh greens, plentiful ingredients, and pretty dang reasonable at $10 for the amount you get. The pepperoncinis are sometimes kinda weird tasting, but I think it might be because they're slightly pickled? Just be aware of that. Really friendly service in here, and they have plentiful cheese and meat options, as well as wine and other goodies. Love that they carry Dead River chips! They don't skimp on ingredients, and that's the most important thing to me. Everything is fresh, the people are nice, you can order online - what's not to like? Try em out! read more

The sandwich was decent, but I'd only go here if money is no object to you - $14 for a small sandwich with no sides feels a bit pricey.

Good but not great for the prices you'll expect a high stacked sandwich and something a little more on the flavor . Your just basically just paying for a standard well rounded sandwich that's edible. We have tried this deli twice. Once we came in and order and waited. 30 minutes or so until our order was ready as multiple take-out and call in orders were prepared. Ok. We understand. Second attempt we order head, we'll be smart this time. Nope! I arrived at the order pick-up time that they provided me, and waited. I waited by the "carry-out" area for 20 minutes before finally asking if they had my order. At which point they looked at the tickets, found mine and began preparing it. I read many previous reviews and decided to try this place for myself as I was in the area and wanted a sandwich. I was in CT/New York recently and had a whopper of a sandwich from a traditional delicatessen in a similar strip mall type setting, heaping full of house roasted corn beef, turkey, and pastrami and kraut. That was $15. I was hoping since I was going straight to a deli here I would have similar experience . I was, unfortunately, disappointed. My sandwich, although it tasted fine except for the overload of mustard, I quickly realized I was not of leaving with a full belly as the title of the sandwich suggested. It was unclear where you were supposed to wait when you made a walk in order, so I meandered around trying to stay out of everyone's way. I don't think this is a "get in quick, get out", type of place. And as you can see from my photos, my sandwich was the width of a quarter including the bread. There were maybe three slices of meat inside. Not what I was thinking of when it comes to a classic "deli" sandwich. I was hoping that this might become my to go sandwich spot but for what ended up being $17+ out the door with a small tip, I will most likely not return. Ordered online and the option described grilled chicken. This is deli meat. This sandwich comes out to $15 after taxes, and this isn't even the double meat option. Had this been described more appropriately, I would not have picked this, it's completely overpriced. Delicious, but not worth it. Stopped here on our dive to Boothbay. Excellent sandwiches (with a big menu to choose from.). Nice outdoor tables to eat at.

We were running errands in town and decided to stop in and grab some sandwiches. The woman at the counter was delightful and have great recommendations on the menu. I ordered the Stimson (turkey swiss and bacon) on wheat. Perfect sized sandwich and very appetizing. My partner got the Franklin (chicken, muenster and greens). The sandwich he said was very good. We sat out side at a picnic table that was very quaint and a nice spot to eat. We also got a side of pasta salad but we each took a bite and threw it out. The tomatoes were pickled prior to being in the salad and it gave the entire thing a vinegar taste that was inedible. My biggest complaint though, and the reason for 3 instead of 4 stars, had to do with cleanliness. It seemed ok but there were fruit flies EVERYWHERE. I know they're a nuisance and I can be forgiving of seeing a few here and there but they were in my face the entire time I was in the store. Hopefully next time the flies will be taken care of so we can enjoy the experience more! read more

I'm not sure why this place only has mediocre reviews. I've been here over a dozen times, and I have always enjoyed my sandwich or soup. I always order the Bessie or Franklin on ciabatta panini. So delicious and consistent. Love that they also have a great beer and wine selection too. If you plan to go on your lunch break, I highly suggest you call in your order because it can get quite busy and backed up. Which is exactly what you would expect from a good deli shop. read more

There are two locations. This review is for the Falmouth locale. I must have driven by hundreds (thousands?!) of times without ever stopping in! One day happened and I did! I've been back at least a dozen times more in about 8 months. I love the previously home (large garrison perhaps?) made into a deli/store! They have *gluten free* wraps (plain, spinach and tomato) for any of the sandwiches. There's a $1 upcharge, which I wish they didn't, but its fair enough. I DON'T recommend the tomato wrap as it falls apart. They all taste basically the same, it's virtually impossible to tell the spinach or tomato from the plain ... other than the color. I've never had a wrap here, that I didn't enjoy! They carry a few gluten free cookies and bars from outside vendors and have a nice selection of beverages. Lunch ends up being about $14-16, so it's not cheap, but ohhhh, so yummy! (I'll post pics when I find the dozen I took...) read more

I'm sitting outside this place. Second time patron. The last time was over a year ago. Now I remember why. The wait time for a couple of cold sandwiches at 2:30 pm is ridiculous. 15 minutes. I went up to window. Young man says can I help you? Polite. Good. He goes to check with the two people behind the work station having an animated conversation about nothing to do with my order or food for that matter. Funny they should ask for a tip in advance. "To Insure Prompt Service" is what it's for. Looking at parking lot, no real traffic flow. Everyone waiting for what perhaps is a really special eating experience, I think to myself. I'll get to that in five minutes when it's ready. Because making an Italian takes a long time....right? In the mean time, order became ready. Pastrami was good. Not great or huge, just good. The Italian was a heavy hitter. No slack or skimping in the meat department. I got the feeling they should tip me for doing all the work to finally get a sandwich. BTW, after ordering online for THEIR convenience, they solicit a TIP in the process....(For what?) then when you go to pick up your order from this Fort Knox of sandwich places, there's a TIP jar at the window. Come on. There won't be a third time no matter how much better they make a hot pastrami. read more

Don't recommend the chicken pot pie, nor the place in general. I've tried several times over the years and I just can't find anything redeemable about it. Chicken pot pie is tough, crust is only on the top, vegetables are bland and there are no spices whatsoever that I could taste. The lack of civility among their staff - horrible - as though we, the customers, are unworthy of their efforts. . It's a shame because I have patients in that area and would love to bring them some savory food now and then. But I'll go to Rosemont in the future and craft my own luncheon meals when I'm working in that area. read more

However, for almost $15 for just a sandwich and no sides, I was expecting something more substantial. It tasted fresh and flavorful, however I was just hoping for a bit more meat & cheese for the price. Sandwich is average sized. My boyfriend got a Reuben which had quite a bit more meat on it. There isn't a review that does this place justice. The pickles are great, the cookies are great, and those are only minor pluses when juxtaposed against the rest of what Leavitt's has to offer. They have one of the nicest sandwiches in town - my personal favorite is the deviled egg salad - and the soups are fantastic. The owners and staff are all friendly too. read more

To be fair, we visited the deli twice before passing judgment. Our first visit was 15 minutes prior to closing on a Friday evening and my wife and I ordered two sandwiches. Mine was their signature L & S, featuring Boar's Head roast beef. While the ingredients were excellent, there was a very scant amount of roast beef. For $7.99, it felt very 'light'. Additionally, there was no side, not even a pickle slice. We kinda' wrote it off as closing time rush to go home and agreed to come back again and try some different dishes. We returned on a Saturday afternoon. This time, my wife wanted one of the soups - and the pot was had only scrapings left on the bottom, so she settled for the Caprese sandwich. For $6.99, she had two slices of bread, 3 small pieces of mozzarella, some tomato slices and a taste of basil and a splash of balsamic & olive oil. Seriously - maybe $0.75 worth of ingredients (it was that small), and again, no sides. A creature of some habit, I tried the L & S again and it was virtually identical to my first experience. I had the bottom of the barrel of their tomato and feta soup, which was quite tasty, but I had to drag the ladle to fill my cup. The food quality was pretty good. The value was disappointing. The lack of even a pickle was surprising. I'd even have paid a dollar or so more for a real sandwich. I'll consider going back to buy the Boar's Head meats but that's probably it. read more

Visting kids at Bowdoin, Bates or Colby? Great stopover between Maine and Logan--5 minutes off I-95. We were returning from parent's weekend at Bates, heading back to Boston. Had the carrot ginger soup, and a Reuben sandwich and a caprese sandwich, one for the flight to Seattle. All five star!! On the way out I noted some Downeast cider, my favorite. I bought out the stock and packed it in my luggage. Terrific and interesting wine collection. I'll be back next time I'm in Maine. read more

After reading the reviews, we thought about trying somewhere else, but this was quick and convenient. It's a sweet little place with a homey feels and couple small tables in back to have a quick lunch. The deli area is small, but cute and gives a real deli feel, something that a lot of newer "deli's" fail to do. They had homebaked goodies and local sodas, which was a nice complement to lunch. However, the food was just sub par, especially for the price. Sure, the sandwiches were good, but we didn't feel they were anything special, especially when the bill racked up to $30 (pricey for two people to have a quick sandwich lunch). The sandwiches were more of something we could have thrown together at home real quick. I'm not sure if they would be better as paninis, crispy and warm, but if so, I hope they would have recommended such. They had a lot of good options that all sounded delicious, so maybe we just picked a couple options that weren't their best, but definitely disappointing. The soup was pretty good, although the chicken missing the noodle, they did include curry powder which was a nice treat and added to the taste (we'll be stealing the idea), but again, they charged about $6 for a small cup, so I wouldn't say it was worth that.
