At first, my…read morehusband was a little hesitant (let's be honest so was I) but we both quickly realized the professionalism and great competence of the nurse midwives after seeing them react perfectly when I passed out during a blood drawing at one of my first appointments. After I gave birth, my husband told me he was brought to tears by witnessing the power of women coming around each other during labor. My first appointment was virtual, and Alys answered every single question and concern I had about their safety protocols and their statistics on transfer rates with confidence. I asked all of the hard questions and was impressed by their protocols. Around six weeks, I thought I was having a miscarriage and Emily answered my frantic call to the birth center. She was the most compassionate and calming person and walked me through that. She got me an appointment the very next day to ensure everything was okay with the baby. I failed my first gestational diabetes test, and had to do the second test that had four blood drawings. I got to lay in one of the king-size beds in one of the birthing suites. I got to take a nap in the bed And I felt like I was in a hotel room. During my actual labor and delivery, It was way harder than I thought it would be. But having the fortune of laboring in a space, that was so comforting and personalized it made a big difference. I would not have made it without my personal Doula or the nitrous oxide(!!) they provided at the Birth Center. My daughter had the cord wrapped around her neck, and Melan acted swiftly to somersault her so that she wasn't hurt. I had a second-degree tear and Melan stitched me perfectly. After birth, my daughter needed some extra monitoring at Vanderbilt, and Jenissa personally walked us into the hospital and got a situated in our room with the nurse at the Vanderbilt Hospital. Never once did I feel shame for my weight, for any questions that I had, or feeling like I was imposing. At every step of the way, I was empowered, encouraged and taken care of with the utmost care. I relied on the nurse midwives to help me come up with a birth plan, and take care of myself and my baby with evidence-based statistics. I am so grateful for every single interaction I had at the Vanderbilt Birth Center and I wish Every woman had the opportunity to experience a tender, loving, professional care I received here. I am so torn since I love the idea of the birth center and having a nautral birth. However, the process there feels so systematic now and I feel like I was treated like a statistic than a person. Also, there are midwives on call, but you have to go through a call center to get to a midwife and I have never been able to get anyone on the phone. They always need to call back hours or days later. It is frustrating to not be able to talk to an actual person who can talk and having to give your personal information over and over again. Overall, I do not feel like they provided the help needed at crucial times for me. I would recommend going elsewhere for more hands on care and for someone more in tune with your needs. Pros: I love how supportive they were when I needed to have my blood drawn. They have aromatherapy and encouraging nurses. The birthing rooms feel like home and have a lot of nice things to use to help aid giving birth. There classes are also very informative. Cons: Gave misinformation numerous times and didn't bother reading my file on my first pregnancy when I came in pregnant again. My first pregnancy was a bit traumatic (leading to a hospital transfer and forceps) and I feel like they could have handled the matter more delicately. They also have much stricter rules about COVID than most doctor's offices. (Need to wait outside until someone comes to your car and takes your temp.. No one allowed in for appointments with you, etc) They have a very high transfer rate to the hospital and it is a little scary needing to get in a car and have your husband drive you to the hospital mid delivery.

We had a rocky start to the pregnancy with a miscarriage scare that required pelvic rest and the Haven team was wonderful throughout that time. The prenatal visits were encouraging, empowering and educational and I was always given plenty of space to voice my concerns and ask questions. When labor began (a full week "late"), baby came very quickly and we were so thankful that our birth team did too. We loved having our son at home (instead of in our vehicle, like we did with our second )! How amazing to feel safe and empowered to give birth the way we wanted to, in our own space! The birth team was attentive to postpartum care as well and helped us get started as a family of five. Our midwife felt like part of the family by the time our journey with Haven was over and we are so grateful!

I quickly realized that people can be very negative about this, and lots of women think it is crazy not to choose an epidural. Dr. McGuire never once told me that I couldn't do it. She was so wonderful, and I know that her support and positivity were part of the reason that I had such a great natural birthing experience. She always makes you feel like you are the only patient she has all day, and the wait is never long. I did wait for about 20 minutes one time. That was because she was delivering a baby at the hospital. When she arrived, she was so cool, calm and collected. She never seems stressed, and you can tell that she really loves what she does. It sounds crazy, but after my son was born, I was sad to go back to seeing her only once a year! I recommed her to all of my friends.

I had my 2nd child with Diana Health in 2023 and now am about to have my 4th there…read more I had my 1st child in Nashville at St. Thomas & a Dr. from Heritage Medical. After having a less than ideal experience, I switched to Diana mostly because of Dr. Sizemore & Dr. Kellett. I was told they would be able to give me the best chance at a vbac (which I was able to successfully have because of Dr. Kellett & Diana Health). The practice has grown A LOT since my first visit in 2022, the waiting room is often packed but they still are efficient. I drive from Nashville to Smyrna which isn't too bad (20ish min) as long as I plan my appointments around traffic. Diana Health is often on time for appointments. There's been a few times a doctor has been delayed, but it's rare. I've probably had 60 appointments across 3 births and this has maybe happened 2-3 times. The doctors at Diana health are great - I've had Kellett, Sizemore & Grimm. They have 2 new doctors that I haven't had any experiences with. The midwives are really hit or miss. I've seen a lot of different midwives because I often schedule appointments based on time vs provider. I've found the midwives that have had children to be MUCH better than the ones who have not. I've had a few weird experiences with midwives so now I go to their profiles online to make sure they have had kids before I schedule. The ones who haven't have induced unnecessary fear & I think some of it is the difference between reading something in a book vs actually having the experience of being pregnant. Obviously there are probably great providers who have no kids vice versa but I don't have that much time to figure it all out. My experience with the ultrasound techs is great. I really like the women I've seen and they are kind, fast & overall pleasant. My experience delivering at the hospital has been great with the nurses and whatever midwife/doctor is on call. I've had some issues with insurance and billing. It's frustrating but I've been able to work them all out eventually. I don't feel like this part is better or worse than any other medical office. Overall, I'd recommend Diana Health. I truly believe everyone there wants what is best for me & my babies. They are collaborative & supportive of my choices. My only complaint is their online system for checking in and billing. It sends a truly unreasonable amount of messages about payments or saving a card on file. In the past the person at the desk just had me pay before my appointment when checking in, which feels more reasonable. I'm not going to save a card on file, there are too things that get messed up on the billing & insurance side. I have gotten 1-2 messages a week for the last 25 weeks.

I had planned on having my placenta encapsulated, but hadn't worked out the details. At 36 weeks, I thought I had a bit more time. Unfortunately, my little one decided to come a bit early, and so I was caught off-guard! I called Jeannie, and she was ready and willing to take me on, even on such short notice. She had my capsules ready in a timely manner, and I can honestly say they've made a huge difference. I haven't had any issues with baby-blues, and my milk production has been off-the-charts - which I largely credit to regular capsule consumption. I would definitely recommend Jeannie and her company to any soon-to-be momma interested in placenta encapsulation.

Dr. Montville is relatively new to the practice, so her schedule is easier to get on, but I imagine it will be filling up fast. She's great. She didn't give me grief about my historically laidback approach to preventative healthcare, she addressed my questions, and kept me informed on what I need to know. The exam was quick, but it didn't feel rushed. Dr. Montville is kind, actively listens to you, and brings a comforting personality to an awkward situation. And since I tend to joke a lot, it was very important and comforting to me that she joked back. I highly recommend Dr. Montville to anyone looking for an OB-GYN. She's awesome.

The one on one sessions were broken into two 2 hour sessions and she came to our home for only $50 more than the group Saturday all day class. She gave us a very detailed booklet that answers almost any question you may have and gave a very thorough presentation on labor/birth/newborn care/post partum care. If you're pregnant, your social media is probably flooded with different advice etc. and overwhelming you. She cleared up a lot of questions for me and made me feel a whole lot better. I had no idea what I was doing and could barely sort my feelings, and Andrea walked me through the rest of my pregnancy and birth with unwavering support and knowledge. She went through every potential type of birth process I may experience and was supportive of whatever my birthing desires were- which ended up being an elective c-section. Having her for the pregnancy and c-section were invaluable and I wish every pregnant person could have a doula with them, no matter the type of birth they experience or desire. I will be forever grateful for her and END every time I think about my pregnancy and birth.
