In December, I requested the attorney call me since I had not heard from them and my court date was in 1 week. I was then informed the court date had been moved to May. Fast forward to end of April, I did not hear from the office so I requested attorney call me. I received a call from Martin Wegman stating he had come out of retirement to pick up all the cases that had been transferred to Steve. Unfortunately Martin got my name wrong and could not find my court date so he asked me to confirm both my name and court date with Guillermo the paralegal. When requesting that information from Guillermo, his reply was 'we have your name and court date' and 'okay'. Alarmed due to the lack of information and impending court date, I requested he call me. Long story short, I spoke with attorney Steve Wegman and was yelled at and accused of 'demanding immediate responses' when in truth I was just making sure the law office had my correct information. Steve also said I should be 'grateful' that they were taking my case for 'free'. I paid attorney fees so this comment itself left me floored. Needless to say, I had to find a new attorney 2 weeks before my court date. And when requesting a refund, I was told I would have to get it from 'The Ticket Guy' who had passed and per Steven: 'good luck cause they're broke'. You have been warned! (And I can post my text message thread with Guillermo to prove I was not 'demanding immediate responses' and was a reasonably concerned client.) UPDATE: Since I have no way of defending myself from the accusations of Steve, I will say this in reply to his comment: I was informed of my case being transferred, I was not given a choice and honestly didn't really understand what was going on. I'm sorry your brother passed but I am still a client and not being able to give me the correct information when my court date is only 2 weeks away would make ANY reasonable person worried for their case. I did not insult your father, he actually took the time to speak to me but he admitted himself he mixed up my case. I did not insult your office, I told Guillermo I was anxious because of all the aforementioned reasons which was why I asked to speak to you. When you called me (which was the first time since you took my case in December) you told me you heard from Guillermo and started accusing me of being demanding and insulting your father which I never did. If that is not unprofessional, I truly don't know what to call it. I'm sorry you feel like you were doing me a favor, but I paid attorney fees and never asked for a 'favor' from anyone. If you were unable or unwilling to take my case, my money should've been returned to me and I would have seeked another attorney. Unfortunately, my experience from the beginning to the end was extremely negative and very insulting. Attorney Paul D Spear actually said to me, "many of his clients think I am a jerk." Due to the fact that a high profile attorney referred him to me, and my eagerness to get that chapter in my life behind me, I moved forward and hired him anyway. Paul cursed me using words, like, "Why the fuck would you say that?" when I simply asked if he had dropped the ball. I am an extremely nice, calm, and gentle spirit. He yelled at me ever single time I spoke with him, and disconnected the call while I was speaking on two separate occasions. He never took the time to listen, and most times did not respond to any emails or text messages. When I asked him, what form would you prefer I contact you if I have a question? He replied, "make sure its a good question." He is not professional, and extremely disrespectful. He requested I sign incomplete forms, and attempted to submit my forms to the court leaving most questions unanswered with blanks, suggesting that "the judge will not read my answers anyway, he only reads the declaration." I had all forms completely filled out, and consistently asked him if and when would he request my forms and supporting documents that would assist me in having a favorable outcome; I wanted the judge to know my story and hear my side. When I initially called him, via the phone he stated how much he would charge me, $4000.00 which was in the ballpark of other attorneys. I made an appointment and went to his office the next day, signed the agreement, and paid the retainer in full. Every encounter, from the beginning, throughout my entire time working with him, he consistently reminded me that he only charged me $4000.00 to return to court for alimony, my divorce was already final. He would say, "I am not going to spend time reading your emails, returning telephone calls, or reading documents." On the other hand, I spoke with other attorneys that I did not pay nor did I hire who welcomed me to call them anytime after 4P if I had questions, they were gracious and willing to help me. In summary, Paul was more than 3o minutes late to the court hearing while the respondent and his attorney were there and ready to go before court began. The judge called our case, and set us aside until Paul arrived, I was so embarrassed. Upon his arrival, he did not represent me well at all. While my ex husband had a female attorney who was well prepared, very aggressive, and every given opportunity she was given, she fault for him. Paul did not object to her, and he was more interested in asking the judge to award that my ex husband paid him thousands of ridiculous dollars for work that he never did. The judge looked at him and asked, where are you getting these figures from? He informed that in his position, the court has set rules that he must follow. Paul Spear apologized to me and stated after court as we stood in the hallway, I apologize, because "I've not given you enough credit for your work." He acknowledged that I am a nice person and that he's not treated me fairly. I simply stated to him, thank you for your apology. I do not recommend him, as my entire experience with him was a nightmare, extremely stressful; I could never ask him one question without him saying something, like, "just get it done, then bye and hang up. He was a consistent head ache and kept me nervous, which a client should never have to experience. I was not supported by him, I felt more like a victim. I am so grateful that part is over, and I gladly take the loss due to his negligence and lack of professional representation. He is not a fair attorney, and focused on more money, not the greater good of his client. This is my true and honest opinion, and I gave him absolute no reason to behave in the manner which he consistently did. I wish nothing bad on him, only the best of Abundant Blessing.
