Stir fried beans with lotus and fungus (黑木耳)

I have no idea why all the reviews here are 1/5 stars. In my opinion restaurant is pretty GREAT: good food and good service. I came here twice, first time for morning dim sum and second time for dinner. Dim sum is highly mediocre (hence the 4/5 star) with small portions and bland congee. I do recommend the fried calamari though. However, the dinner package (I think it was one rice/noodle and 4 dishes you can pick + a complimentary LOBSTER and dessert) was EXCELLENT! The teppenyaki meat was so tender and well-seasoned, highly recommend. The packaged meal came to something like $90 before tips, and the portion was enough for 5 of us PLUS extra left-overs. We had a good time having dinner there; the servers were really nice and attentive. Plus: I always like it when a chinese restaurant promptly refills your empty tea kettle

    Beef and Broccoli

My boyfriend and I ordered Combo A1 for take out. The beef from the beef and broccoli was way undercooked and tasted super chewy. I didn't notice how red it really was in the centre until I put the bright light on to see why it tasted different than normal beef you get in beef and broccoli. I know that you can get rare steak at steak restaurants, but a dish like this needs to be cooked. They don't ask you beforehand how you want it to be cooked. You know automatically it will be cooked and a little pink. Very disappointed and completely lost my appetite. Won't be ordering again.

Crispy fried noddle with seafood and green

We noticed this new Chinese restaurant recently. But were a little hesitant to patronize after reading the mixed reviews online and comments from acquaintances. We finally took the plunge to try lunch. The restaurant was about 1/3 full when we arrived for an early lunch. First greeting impression was positive. We were seated almost immediately. Servers were friendly. Tea was served shortly after. We ordered crispy fried noddle with seafood. Portion was a little smaller than other places. But it was tasty. We also ordered 3 dim sum: Chiu zhao dumpling, the skin was thin and the filling was tasty. I rated it better than other places. Beef tendon with special sauce, tasty and tender. Baked BBQ pork & ginger pastry, really puffed pastry and unique ginger flavoured filling. Maybe better than other places. Overall, I rated this an enjoyable dim sum lunch. I will return sometime again for dinner. Maybe Chinese New Year dinner.

    a plate of vegetables

Disappointing customer service after I brought back a takeout dish. Kung Pao chicken was flavourless, full of carrots! and other vegetables, with only a small amount of what looked and tasted like steamed chicken. Nothing like any others I have had. The lady I spoke to said this is they way they do it, end of story. Did not offer to refund or change it out. Friends recommended this place, however Ill probably give it a miss in the future.

    Under cooked spring rolls

I ordered take out and chose 7 dishes. The bill came to $78 after a 10% discount for pickup. They did not honour a $5 coupon they offer. Upon ordering by phone, the staff was confused and appeared untrained. The management came across aloof, and unconcerned. When I arrived to pick up, I was told they were still cooking the salt pepper chicken wings, because they take longer then everything else. 20 minutes later I'm given my order. I live 5 minutes away from this place. The food was cold. The chicken wings were just plain, with no salt pepper. The spring rolls were under cooked(raw in the middle). The fried rice was extremely oily, and clumpy. The pineapple sweet and sour pork was not evenly mixed. Everything else was just as amateur and unprofessional. Utterly disappointing. Another sub par, mediocre South Surrey restaurant opening to rob you of your money in exchange for substandard product and pathetic entitlement. Get your act together! Train your staff and get your processes right before opening. Honour what you advertise, and don't act like your entitled to gratuities; even on pick up orders. The paying public are not your business experiment. Come here at your own risk and expense. Safeway has better Chinese Food.

I ordered the cucumber salad and seafood fried rice with XO sauce, as well as tea. The tea came first, with a very nice Western style porcelaib pot and cup and saucer. Elegant! The cucumber salad had an interesting dressing, slightly sweet, but with a healthy amount of garlic. Somehow, for me, it worked. The cucumber was very fresh and served as a nice neutral base to build the flavors on. I was warned when I ordered the fried rice that it was spicy. Well, it was slightly tingly, but nothing major for my tastes. The rice was soft and loose and flavourful. Surprised by what looked like short grain rice. The rice came with some kind of whitefish, shrimp, and scallops. Also very finely diced red and green peppers, carrots, and onions. It was very flavorful, the seafood was very fresh and perfectly cooked, and tasty without being salty. I got a refill of hot water for my tea without asking, which was very appreciated. Price for one person was a bit high, but portions were large enough for sharing between two, and compared to other prices on the White Rock Beach, this wasn't too bad. A good spot for some good Chinese good!

Three strikes against this place. The bad health department report is a serious initial concern. No…read moresurprise though as this restaurant had other significant deficiencies that make it not good for the customer. Went in on a cold day and it was absolutely freezing, or at least felt that way. One other customer was dining bundled up in a winter coat. Ridiculous. They must be trying to save money to not run the heat. Sooooo cheap and a miserable way to treat customers. They also are cheap using cheap dark meat chicken thigh in most chicken dishes like sesame chicken. The experience sucked, and I did not want any more bad surprises, so I left and went somewhere else. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal, you may want to look somewhere else. Pass. Maybe if enough of these poor quality restaurants in this area run themselves out of business, something better can come later.

We normally drive out to Richmond to have Chinese food; we were both pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meal. We had a couple of the warm appetizers and a Seafood with silken tofu Hot Pot. The appys were fine; the hot pot was delicious with a nice variety of seafood including fish slices, squid and prawns. The silken tofu was lightly deep fried giving it a nice textured skin, the tofu remained silky and tasty. Best of all, it came to the table piping hot. The seasoning was perfect and not overly salty as most Chinese restaurants. The service was friendly and attentive; we spoke to the owner briefly; she is very proud of her little eatery. We plan to return soon to try the lamb dish with cumin the next table obviously enjoyed and other traditional Shanghainese dishes!

So. If you aren't into very authentic Northern Chinese food, this will be a hard sell. The place…read moreis a little dark, service can be on the slower side, and there's not a lot of English. If you're not scared, read on. We went here for dinner and did not need a reservation - the name in and of itself is probably a bit of a turnoff, but don't let it stop you. There was no wait, but you can also make reservations if you are so inclined. It has only a bit of decor and could use better lighting, but the place is pretty small comparatively. We were able to sit immediately and were greeted with tea (you have to request water). We got apps - spring rolls and wontons in spicy sauce. Let me tell you. The spring rolls were HOT - everything that comes out is freshly off the wok so be careful or you'll burn your mouth - but that's really the best part of those. Nothing to write home about. The wontons, however, are a dish I'd order four of and just eat as a meal. Definitely worth getting. For mains, we got the stir fried beef with cumin and the shredded pork with chili and garlic sauce. I can see why they're some of the more popular dishes, although the beef was a bit more onion heavy than I would have liked. they are spicy Sichuan style, but not too spicy that you don't get the other flavors. Also, the "spicy sauces" are a bit more spice than just spicy - like there's star anise and cinnamon and other "spiceful" flavors, and it's one of my favorite things. If you have one of the servers that speaks English pretty well, you should ask if the meat has bones in it so you aren't surprised when it comes out. Rice is $3 and that feels a bit eyeroll, but we did end up with leftovers, and can make rice at home. We plan to go back to try other things - maybe not the very adventurous stuff on the menu - but definitely some of the other dishes.
