I came across this restaurant awhile back, and decided to bring the family and in-laws to try Dim Sum. We were maybe the 4th table. Not surprising for a weekday Dim Sum. The interior was nice and modern. Comfy chairs, sleek tables and I got to choose a bigger table with a lazy Susan in the middle. A couple of staff members were quick to help us with teas or anything else we needed. We chose the Yang Chow Fried Rice which came in a very unique pyramid configuration. We also ordered eggplant, har gow, sui mai and BBQ pork buns. All were pretty standard, with my only disappointment being the BBQ pork buns. I'm not sure what happened with the steamer or the steaming process, but 2/3 buns in the bamboo container came out looking good and fluffy, but the third came out looking and feeling quite soggy. Good solid choice for Dim Sum if you are in South Surrey. I'd be interested in trying their dinner dishes in the near future. read more

It was empty on a Saturday evening, which was surprising, but it made it pretty great that we didn't need a reservation. The staff was pretty...typical for a Chinese place. Which means not the friendliest or best, but that is usually the sign of a great restaurant. We had to ask for the dim sum menu, which isn't extensive but has all the staples. Siu Mai, har gow, char siu bao. The food was decent and we did order one other dish off the regular menu, which was a veggie dish, but they said they could only make Chinese broccoli for lunch. Honestly, there are other restaurants in this strip mall plaza that I'd try before going back, but in a pinch it isn't terrible. read more

Service is extremely slow. Takes 15 minutes for the single waitress to come take your order. And then you wait another 30 minutes for your food. I am surprised that this restaurant is still in business. This is not an outlier either as we have been here several times in the last year and there is no sign of any improvement. read more

We stopped by for dinner for a family member's birthday. No reservations was needed as the restaurant was not busy at 5:30 pm. We did make reservations just in case. We ordered off their menu a variety of things to try. We asked for lobster and noodles in cream sauce and the chef was able to accommodate our request as it was not on the menu. Food arrived fairly quickly. The food was good although the portion was on the smaller side. No complaints on the taste. We got an order of complimentary birthday buns as we had mentioned during our reservation booking that it was for a birthday. It was very nice of the restaurant to do that. Buns were fluffy with a red bean filling. Service was attentive. Staff regularly checked on our table and were courteous. I do recommend this restaurant if you are in the area for some authentic Chinese food. read more

Grabbed take out. $56 got me shrimp fried rice with 4 tiny shrimp total, sweet n sour pork that was a tiny container half full of veggies (onion and peppers) rather than mostly pork, and 3 dumplings (not 3 orders of dumplings). When I grabbed the takeout bag I had to look to see if they forgot a dish because the bag was so light. Never again! The food wasn't even that good...average, actually. read more

Very mediocre Dim Sum. My husband felt like something different today so I searched out a restaurant we hadn't trued yet. It was not busy when we arrived. We were offered a menu to mark off the items we wanted. Not my favourite way to enjoy dim sum but I know lots of restaurants are doing it this way now. We ordered 6 items and we found them all very bland and I am sure that most was lower end frozen stuff from a grocery store. Very disappointed. We were not given any little bowls or spoons as is customary at dum sum. We had to ask for napkins, chilli sauce and soy. We were never approached to see how we were doing throughout the meal. The last straw for us when a worker decided that 10:45 am was the time to break out the big yellow janitor bucket and mop to wash the floor. All we could smell was dirty mop water as he mopped right at our and everyone else's tables. Disgusting. Can they not do that before or after the restaurant is open? We will not be back. Tues. night @5. Food was the best we've had in White Rock area. Lots of parking, appropriate deco, host was patient and a great help. Great idea for a large menu, check mark numbering. Very decent restaurant. It is an upscale cantonese restaurant with fair price . Renovation is modern.

Some of the food was decent, but two main dishes were lousy tasting and poorly prepared, and extremely oily where the oil was separated from the rest of the sauce, and not edible. The shrimp were small and undercooked in one dish drowned by oversized chunky not finely cut vegetables in a terrible oily odd tasting sauce that didn't resemble the style of the dish at all. Didn't feel well for many hours after eating that. The next problem was the overall cost of the meal was just as expensive as the better Chinese restaurants in Vancouver, but at a much lower quality level. The food is really slow to prepare and it takes an epic boring long time to get it, resulting in a real dragged out meal. That makes it even so much more disappointing that the food can be so bad when it arrives. They said they can not serve ANY dish including sweet and sour with white meat chicken breast, which was weird and disappointing, and I assume just cheap. Kind of like the low quality shrimp they served in expensive "prawn" dinner options that were very highly priced for the disappointment that was served. They also have a big menu but couldn't serve one dish due to inventory, which was not shared until many minutes after taking the order. They served a different size soup than I ordered and overcharged for it, being short sighted to not make it right when I brought it to their attention, so I just paid double to stop the debate, which was a bad customer experience too. You shoukd have seen the concern to make sure they kept that $7+ dollars that I was overcharged due to their mistake. Really clueless and poor decision making there. Besides being cheap on that, and undermining customer trust in multiple ways, the people in the restaurants were really nice and other aspects of the service were very good. The robot that helps serve food is novel but gets obnoxious after a while with the music it plays constantly going back and forth to the kitchen. Tea was not as good as typical nice Chinese restaurants in the Vancouver area. The decor was good, but they miss touches like serving soy sauce and condiments out of orginal or cheap bottles/packaging. Sweet sauce with appetizers seemed to be the kind right out of a bottle vs in house made. Sweet sauce with a dinner plate was very ketchup dominated and worse than most online recipes. While sweet and sour shrimp were not heavily battered, the breading couldn't even stay on the shrimp. It was if they did not have a chef that knew what they were doing. Very disappointing to pay over $100 for such a mediocre meal for 2. It's worth the extra drive to the city whatever the gas prices are, until a real quality restaurant emerges this far south or Vancouver. If I summed up the decision to go to this restaurant in two words they would be mistake and failure. I hope others on yelp at least see it coming if the sale experience happens to them. read more

Should have spent my money elsewhere. Looks like patrons are paying for the decor, rather than the food. Dishes are way overpriced. They even charge for the tea. Had the Village Noodle with Beef, Spicy Beef Tripe, Choy Sum with Oyster Sauce, Chicken Feet, and Mango Pudding. Beef tripe was Szechuan style. It was spicy, and very tough. My jaws were sore after a couple of pieces. Couldn't make out any other flavors due to how spicy the dish wash. Chicken feet were large and well cooked, but very bland. Choy Sum with Oyster Sauce was steamed, no evidence of oyster sauce what-so-ever. Village Noodle with Beef Tendon was a total dud. Lots of the gelatinous rice noodle, very little beef and no tendon. Mango pudding was good, but way overpriced. It was a couple of spoonfuls of mango coulis over what appeared to be a simple, unflavored milk gelatin. Tasty but not worth the $5 per dish. Didn't know what the place was called before going. Had I known I would not have gone on the principle that they serve Shark's Fin Soup. Even if they stop selling Shark's Fin Soup (which they probably won't) we won't be going back. Money better spent elsewhere. read more

Finally, some quality Chinese food in South Surrey! Ingredients fresh and top Quality. Staff was very professional and accommodating. Prices are a bit higher than expected but well worth it. Some foodie told my friend Min Yan was the best Chinese restaurant in South Surrey, so four of us went to have dinner there last night. I know good Chinese food when I see them, this is no doubt the best Chinese restaurant in the whole Greater Vancouver area. Not even Richmond can come up with one better than Ming Yan. They have such a good selection of dishes, some could be pricey but there are no shortages of average-price dishes either. It is definitely the hidden jewel we had been looking for and it is just a few minute away from our house. No more driving all over town for good Chinese food, we'll settle for this one for sure. read more

I ordered sweet and sour pork and vegetable chow mein. Chow mein was dry and crunchy in some spots, chewy in others. The flavour of sweet and sour good, but too many green peppers. This is my go to restaurant around my neighbourhood. The dim sum, hotspot, and regular dinners are pretty good and authentic. Compared to the Chinese restaurants in Richmond, yes it needs improvement but it fiend mean the food isn't good. I saw a review that gave this restaurant a one star. It just made me laugh. Like I mentioned earlier, the restaurant is pretty authentic. If you order a Sichuan style beef tribe, then be expected it will be spicy because it is SICHUAN style. Don't complain about the food being what it should be tasted like in its own culture. Go to Panda Express and I m sure you will like those "real Chinese food". read more

We were in this restaurant for lunch during our vacation from Edmonton, AB. Everything on the menu looks so good ! We ordered a few dishes and all of them tasted yummy :) :) especially the dumpling dish. I visited this restaurant with families, not because it is popular one but we received leaflet with menu from them, and is near my house, walking distance. But maybe my expectation was too high, We all disappointed, first of all, no staff speak fluent English. Only one among several waitress speak English but with unusal accent to understand unless you pay strongest attention with saying excuse me many times. Main dish is hot pot, later realized, but price is high compare to quality. If you happened to be there, no hot pot, may be dimsum. Not recommended to treat VIP or your relatives who visited from far away in this place. I hope they listen to customer's opinion before promotion. We are not going there anymore, but may be for someone who speak Chinese and is familar with hot pot might work. read more

Oh how I had high hopes for this place. The renovations from the fitness facility are fantastic - the place is clean and well decorated. China and linens top notch. The service is good once you get there and then falls flat. Very little english. First time there was during Chinese New Year for lunch - very limited lunch menu. Ordered the house fried rice and an order of dumplings. Fried rice was $19. And nothing special. Chocked that up to a busy time of year and recent opening. * Second time * Noted in February they were now offering Dim Sum lunch. Arrived at about one o'clock on a Wednesday, about five tables occupied. Menu was a little limited for regular dim sum items - ordered five items. Sea Cucumber Dumpling (8.88) so sticky it was difficult to get off of the steamer paper. Bland. Shui Mai Dumplings (6.88) no roe on top - also bland. Bean Curd Skin Rolls in Broth (6.88) Strange and bland. Not sure what they were filled with. Sticky Rice (8.88) probably the most flavour out of all of the dishes. Scant on meat or mushrooms. Terribly overpriced. Fried Veg. Spring Rolls (4.88) Looked good - horribly bland. Dinged us $1.50 each for tea and never refilled the pot with water even after tipping the lid to indicate more hot water. Total with tax and tip $50.00 Far too expensive for what we had. BTW avoid sitting next to the service desk, we've been seated there both times. The telephone when it rings is so loud and is a an obnoxious ring. Nondescript from the outside, Ming Yan Seafood Chinese restaurant has a contemporary, upbeat decor and FANTASTIC FOOD. The meals here parallel the best I have had in Vancouver and Richmond. This is not Canadian or American Chinese, but authentic Hong Kong Chinese restaurant. Located on King George, near Choices Grocery, we have visited 3 times in the last 5 weeks, and we don't dine out often! There are 2 menus - Hot Pot, and Individual dishes. Our first visit we had individual dishes - each was unique and so flavoursome, a complete delight. Tonight, our third visit, we repeated with variation their more expensive, but spectacular hot pot, 2 broths, with prawn balls, lamb, beef, pea leaves, baby choy, Chinese yams and udon noodles. Dessert of yam. With Tsang Tao beer and plum drink. OUTSTANDING! A few communication problems since we were the only Caucasians in the place, but with good intent and laughter, we got what we wanted!
