Convenient location in downtown Gig Harbor, easy to pay (tap to pay as an option), lockers available for rent (but you could also bring your stuff in kayak with you). Don't forget to bring your camera as it's beautiful on a clear day and a great activity with friends or family. Go along the waterfront and see the gorgeous homes and then stop at the lighthouse and walk to the other side (with shoes on). Beautiful view of Mt. Rainier. Great place to get on the water and explore Gig Harbor on a kayak or paddle board. Easy to find, and pretty much the most affordable of the various places around the Harbor to rent a kayak or board. Super friendly staff and Dallas rocks the smiling, friendly stage with her very cool Australian dog! They also have lockers to leave your valuables behind. While you're there, you'll also probably get a glimpse of Bubbles the seal, who likes to hang around the nearby piers. Super recommended! read more

TLDR: My family and friends WILL NOT RETURN to Lee's SUP because of Lee's sexually inappropriate demeanor toward us and his degrading/insulting comments to me yesterday. It is not acceptable EVER to make disparaging and sexually inappropriate comments period; let alone to well intended, happy, paying customers. Yesterday when I rented a paddle board from you I did NOT ask you to render any judgement or evaluation about my or my friends level of attractiveness.  For whatever reason you were unable to keep inappropriate comments to yourself and you felt the need to share your opinion openly with us while fitting us with paddle board paddles.  The overly friendly banter towards my friend turned to disparaging comments to me once she was on the water and out of earshot.  Lee, you absolutely were insulting and unprofessional towards me (both of us for that matter) for no reason of our doing and I find this incredibly alarming.      Creepy and disgusted come to mind when I think about how you behaved toward me yesterday.  If you need a reminder; you had been creepily fawning over my friend who is in her 20s, very pregnant and about 5'10".  You went on and on about how tall she was.  You fitted her with her SUP paddle and she went on her way. We were then alone on the dock (no other employees or customers) and you said to me, "You are NOT tall".  (Okay? I don't recall asking you if you think 5' 7" is tall or not, but whatever).  Stepping onto my paddle board I said to you,  "well I'm not AS tall as she is" and you knelt down to push my paddle board out and said at ear level slightly behind my head  "and you're not nearly as pretty either". Got it!  Thank you for showing us your true colors.  We had been repeat customers. We will not be back, EVER. read more

Went on a weekday and had an amazing time. It wasn't crowded but there was definitely a steady stream even on a weekday, so I can imagine how much busier the wkends would be. The girl running the rentals was very helpful to all the customers, and I made sure to tip extra seeing it was really just her helping out everyone non stop. She made sure to greet new customers even while finishing up with existing customers, something not even seasoned adults do in customer service. There were two other boys there running the summer camps but didn't really do much except give the handful of kids verbal instructions. Even though you start off in a marina, there's a small sandy beach with the welcome to gig harbor sign and miniature lighthouse about 45min away (via kayak) that you can only reach by water. That was really fun for my kiddos bc we found some cool shells, feathers, jellies, and possibly the best driftwood beach fort I've ever seen - pirate flag and all. During the kayaking, we saw stinging jellies, non stinging jellies, an adorable harbor seal, and a gondola. Also a bunch of kids and coaches practicing for rowing/crew which was interesting. It was the perfect distance and trip for us and would definitely do it again. read more

We just left, after leaving our session early. Two experienced kayakers here, and we were given a faulty kayak. We got out and COULD NOT STEAR. It took us an hour to get back when we decided we were done, fifteen minutes in, with this kayak. We've kayaked before, in current, without current, salt waters and white waters. We've NEVER had issues with kayaks going rogue. Then we realized we weren't given life vests, which is ILLEGAL. For the record, the location is in a marina. As in, you paddle around in a marina. Woohoo We tried talking to them about it and got ignored. I'm surprised that they teach classes for kids, considering the lack of safety. read more

The first few times at this place were fine, although I'll say I did always get a vibe that the owner was a bit rude and arrogant as a previous reviewer mentioned. My friends and I always came to Lee's super bubbly and ready to have a great day on the water, in my honest opinion this is the only reason why there wasn't an altercation sooner, because why would there be ? It's a simple exchange, we pay and help to get fitted with the correct equipment and go on our way. There have been a couple of moments where the banter with the owner struck me as borderline, and as I mentioned I got an overall somewhat unsettling vibe the previous times visiting Lee's, but this last time the ball finally dropped. At 39 weeks pregnant, the owner's comment that I was glowing could maybe be overlooked. With my boyfriend and close friend standing near I smiled and said thank you. The subsequent verbal novella about my height was just... Well borderline at best. I understand the need to fit me with the correct paddle which is directly correlated to height, but this was just extra, you know that feeling that suddenly comes over an entire group of people where the discomfort and everyone silently thinking "okay dude move on" is palletable. It's super unfortunate that my boyfriend and I were out of earshot of the dock when Lee decided to (not that I can think of one that would warrent his behavior BUT for absolutely NO reason) insult my good friend, offering his opinion on a comparison of our appearances. So, let me get this straight, the fact that your patrons are often dressed in warm weather clothing is your opportunity to judge and objectify ? Unacceptable and truly just difficult to understand. Having read the recent reviews I now feel justified in coming forward about Lee and his inappropriate conduct towards female clients. He was creepy and overly familiar with my girlfriend about a month ago and apparently disparaged my appearance when I was out of earshot. He makes a big deal out of the swimsuits the female clients wear and seems to prioritize the younger and more attractive girls over customers who arrived earlier. This guy also seems to have a thing for tall women, and my girlfriend being around 6ft cranked his creepy mode up to 11. Thoroughly unsettling and very worrying. We will not be back. read more

I just had the best time with my sister and brother in law. I have never kayaked before. Every employee was amazingly kind and didn't make me feel like a klutz getting in and out - just the opposite. What a joke of a place! Apparently whoever runs this fine establishment thinks it's ok to pack up and leave their business locked up and unattended during their posted business hours if they think it's going to be a slow day. Who does that?!? They do have a number on their fence you can call to summon them back and reopen their business, if they answer. We came to celebrate my father in laws birthday so we decided to wait in hopes they would answer their phone or magically come back. Three unanswered phone calls and 40 minutes later someone finally shows up without a care in the world. No apologies or even a care given. Not impressed. read more

We came here twice last year and returned today for another go! Lee and staff are awesome! Polite, helpful, engaging and know their stuff! Each time when we ended an evening, and I'm sure they had long days in the sun, we were greeted at the dock like family! "How was it?" Did you fall in or jump!" Called 2 weeks prior to going for a friends birthday and they said we didn't need reservations, plenty of boards. Hours are 10-8pm. Group of 6 show up at 6pm on a Monday and are told they are closed early for the day. Very dissapointed as this was a surprise birthday gathering and much looked forward to. This was not an enjoyable experience. We wanted to rent kayaks for the afternoon. When we asked for kayaks we received an earful about how paddle boards are better. Then, when we went to get our kayak we realized it was a sit on style kayak, rather than sit-in kayak. We were never asked what kind we wanted. We asked to have a sit in kayak, and were told to try out the sit on style and come back if we did not like it. We tried it and went back. When we finally got a sit in kayak, it was broken. There was duct tape on the rutter. Lee did not put the rutter in the water for us. The metal connecting the rutter to the foot pedals was rusted. The adjustable seat straps were tied, making them stationary. The customers on paddle boards looked to be enjoying themselves, however. This is not the place to go if you're looking to kayak. Seems to be okay to rent paddle boards. read more

Great guy running this place. Prices are more than fair and had the kayaks and safety gear needed to go out on the water. We were first time kayakers and went here to try it out and now we are hooked. This place is a little difficult to get to which I would say is it's only downside and the parking for this area is lacking. All in all if you wanna give kayaking a try this is the place to do it. read more

We showed up about 11am on a Saturday to rent some SUPs. There was a large group in front of us and only one girl working. She was seriously amazing, but by the time she got the group in front of us on the water and grabbed our SUPS there were easily 10+ people waiting to get on the water. The girl working was amazing, but I can't understand why her boss would only have one person working on a gorgeous Saturday morning. I mean, we waited close to 30 minutes just to get on the water so plan accordingly. Their boards are pretty standard, nothing to write home about. $20 for 2 hours of paddle boarding which is cheaper than any other place in GH. We'd likely rent from here again, but seriously, please plan to have more than one employee working when the weather is nice and it's a weekend. read more

The staff was very accommodating and kind to us. On a busy day like the 4th of July, they were easy going and made our experience enjoyable. We were able to take out many paddle boards (there are also kayaks) and enjoy ourselves in the harbor for 2 hours ($20 each). We had so much fun! We rented kayaks, pedal boats, and paddle boards. Lee let us come back and switch out when we decided we wanted something different. Had more than enough boats/kayaks/boards. Prices are very reasonable. Didn't give me any crap when it took me longer than expected to pedal back in the pedal boat. They had all sizes of life jackets to fit all the little ones.
