That turned out not to be true: the horse was being leased to another person at the same time throughout my lease, which I found misleading and which caused ongoing scheduling conflicts for me. I also prepaid for two lessons before my lease officially started. When my lease ended up beginning earlier than planned and those lessons were absorbed into the lease fee, I was told I'd be refunded for the prepaid ones. That refund never came. From what I observed during my time there, the horses were kept mostly in stalls with very limited turnout. There's a substantial body of research on the physical and mental effects of limited turnout. This includes hoof issues, joint issues, GI issues, elevated ulcer risk, behavioral problems, and respiratory issues, among others. If that matters to you, it's worth knowing before you commit. After I posted an honest review of my experience, the owners publicly commented that there was "pending litigation" against me. This claim surfaced only after I posted the review, which was more than a year after my lease had ended. I took the review down shortly afterwards, since at the time I figured it wasn't worth the hassle and drama given how busy I am. I later learned they had in fact filed a small claims case against me over an alleged $500 shortly after their comment, which I believe was directly in response to my review. I'm posting a review now because I believe potential customers deserve accurate information, and because I believe my experience reflects a pattern others may have run into as well. I was only actually riding here for about a month and a half. More than a year later, I'm still dealing with the fallout of that short arrangement. In my opinion, this says something on its own.

My husband and I moved from the Bay Area to…read moreSeattle and have been checking out the local bouldering scene in the PNW - Climb Tacoma has been one of our favorite gyms to check out on a day pass since it's near my parents. FACILITIES For bouldering? Wide variety of routes for different levels and technical focus. For example, a lot of bouldering gyms we've been to have their routes go vertical to fit more climbing onto a set of panels. I like that Climb Tacoma has options where a route might go across, so I get to practice different climbing techniques. Some routes exercise grip strength, others may be more core or balance focused. It makes the experience more fun and rewarding when you complete the beta. I've only been climbing actively for a little over 7 months and can climb up to V2 routes; my husband can climb up to V5/V6. Climb Tacoma has been great because we're both able to keep busy with how many routes there are. There's even a small area for kids to practice climbing and a fun spray wall to test different holds. My only complaint with their bouldering is that their labeling system can be very confusing - you need to look at the tape color to indicate difficulty... not the color of the hold. For exercising? It's lacking - a very small fitness / workout area with little equipment compared to other climbing gyms in the area. I would say comparable to small fitness centers you get in hotels. That said... I don't come here for that, I come to boulder. LOCATION + PARKING Location is off S 38th ST so really close to Tacoma Mall or the Vietnamese area of S 38th ST... making it pretty convenient for finding food after a climbing session. In terms of crowds, it's never been a problem coming here on the weekends, the day before a holiday, or in the middle of a weekday (ex/ for their Monday special for "Femmes and Themes". Their parking seems a bit small but it's never been an issue for us as we're always able to find a spot. OVERALL Coming from the Bay Area, I appreciate how chill this climbing gym. It doesn't play loud music, people are respectful when it comes to climbing and there aren't "influencer" or gym bro vibea you get from Silicon Valley / SF gyms. If you are looking for a high end gym with the works like towel service, saunas, yoga classes, etc... then I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you're just looking to boulder in the area, this gym is great for that with extremely fair pricing. Other climbing gyms, pricing is understandably higher because there may rope courses with higher overhead. I like that what I pay here is for bouldering... and there are lots of options to choose from. Make sure to check their site for specials like Half Price First Fridays or the $15 "Femmes and Thems" discount (rentals included)!

Alan is more a host than a front man, ready to share his vast knowledge and stories to entertain as well as educate and introduce people to the world of little cars. and of course parts and accessories and cars are available for purchase. The facility itself is clean, as clean can be anyways. There are about 15 or so stables for the horses. Plenty of area for them to hang out too. There is an indoor and outdoor arena. The indoor arena is a little small and perfect for beginners and cold rainy days. The outdoor arena is large with jumping bars. We have Tracy as our instructor and boy can she do her job well. She has lots of patience with my daughter but she also knows when to challenge her to help her become a better rider. I totally recommend her for lessons. Overall this place is great, check it out if you have a chance.

I boarded a horse here for several years, leasing him to another client in the barn when I left for college and ultimately selling him with Shannon's help. The level of care is excellent; I never worried about my horse when I was not around, knowing he was in good hands. Shannon (the owner/trainer) lives on the premises and keeps a close eye on things. The horses are happy, healthy, and get regular turnout. I didn't realize that these basic things were so hard to find until I moved away and started riding elsewhere. In some areas, good turnout is nearly impossible to find. SWF also offers a beautiful, large outdoor ring, a covered round pen, and a nice new heated tackroom. The indoor arena is on the small side, but it's quite functional and it definitely teaches you to look through your corners and set up for every fence! In summary, SWF provides excellent horse care and training for hunters and jumpers, with well-maintained facilities and knowledgeable, reliable barn management.

Jarrod (sp?) met us at Magnuson Park and was helpful and nice. My son (age 12) was initially apprehensive about the experience, but then was urging me to go faster and faster. We spent three hours on the Lake and he can't wait to do it again. He said that day on the lake made his summer. This company is beyond helpful and courteous.
