A busted head gasket really is a death wish for Subaru's, Matt the manager called me and let me know how much it was going to cost. I told them to go ahead and do the work, and they started. I spent around $5,000 for them to fix my car. Half way through the fixing process I got a call from one of the workers at VIP saying he needed to put a new "engine block" in my car, and that VIP didn't have those, but he had one on him, and that he would sell that to me for $600. Not knowing what to do, I went ahead and bought the engine block. My car was finally finished, and when I left my low oil light came on, wasn't sure what was going on so I called VIP, and went there for them to take a look. They told me there was no oil leaking. I got home, and to my dismay, there was no oil leaking, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR. I went back to them, and they lifted my car and told me the technician who sold me this "engine block" didn't remove the old filter, and there was a pin hole in it, letting the oil leak out like a faucet. When they fixed it, they told me I could have died. That experience scared me, but I still put my faith in VIP when I had some steering stuff going on, I went there and spoke with Matt, who told me that I needed new steering pump, and I asked him if I could wait until I actually have money to do that, and he said "you'll be stranded on the side of the road somewhere if you wait." So, I waited, and that was 2 years ago. My steering is fine. VIP has made me scared for my life, no business should do that. I also found out that they NEVER PUT MY AC BACK TOGETHER. So, I have no AC anymore, because of their ignorance. I've called the branch in Topsham about 6 times in the last 3 months, asking them if they've gotten the part in, just to be told that they would call me back, and they never call back! Not once! I will never step foot in this place again, and other people shouldn't either. To top it off, when I went to the Topsham branch and told them about the events that took place in the Brunswick one, one of the technicians said my case was a "famous" case, one of the most messed up projects that they've ever had. I've tried to get ahold of the owner, I have just left messages and never hot a return call. EDIT: 03/29/21 VIP in Topsham is awesome, they took care of me and helped me get my AC back, they really stepped up to the plate. Call Topsham VIP for anything!!

This last time I had to use a 5 foot pipe on a half-inch breaker bar to loosen them--heaven help me if I had to change a tire on the highway. Impact wrenches are for removal, but should never be used for tightening. They really should be torquing them to the proper specs and no more.

My family and I were visiting friends in Maine for the 4th of July weekend, when my wife's car…read moreregistered a sudden drop in pressure for the passenger rear tire. When I pulled over to take a look, my heart sank. It wasn't a drop in pressure - it was FLAT, and worse, it was 4PM on July 3rd. How could I get the tire fixed before end of the day, so that we could drive home on the 4th? Plus, I had out-of-state plates and a couple of car seats in the back. With a typical tire business, this would be a flashing neon sign to smell blood and insist I needed a brand new tire. We weren't far from Bangor, Maine, either, so I began to feel like I was in Chapter 1 of a Stephen King story. 'This is going to be a nightmare', I thought. Luckily, we weren't that far from a Tire Warehouse, so I bolted the donut on and limped the car to Topsham. They were open, but running a skeleton crew for the holiday weekend. When I walked in, 'Marty' greeted me and said that although he couldn't fit me in immediately (there were still a few cars to sort out) I could make an appointment for the morning of the 4th. You'll be open on Independence Day? Really? Yes, really. Whew! I made an appointment for 9AM, and they let me roll in the flat, in case they found time to attend to it that evening, or first thing in the morning. When I arrived 20 minutes late the next day, I found out that they had patched the tire the night before. There was never even an attempt to upsell me a new tire. Wow! While I waited for it to be mounted, Marty and I talked shop about racing cars, about photography, about family and kids and life. Great guy! After it was mounted, the tire tech showed me the steel splinter that had caused the puncture, and mentioned that a previous patch hadn't been finished properly - so he had cleaned it up for me, gratis. He also showed me that the rubber had cracked along a different tire's sidewall, but assured me it was OK, unless it has another puncture. It was clear this guy took a ton of pride in the quality of his work, and I really appreciated it, as it gave me real peace of mind for the drive home on the interstate. TL;DR: In one transaction, Tire Warehouse showed professional integrity, that have employees who take pride in their work, are well-run with a really friendly client-facing manager in Marty, and went *above and beyond* to help out this Dad trying to get his family home on the 4th of July. Thank you Tire Warehouse in Topsham!

However, I don't keep up much with businesses in Bath (my bad), so didn't know Cahill's had been sold back in April. The reason I stopped in was for someone to check the pressure in my tires, as my low tire pressure light came on when I left my home that morning. This is a fairly new car with 23K miles on it that I had bought in September. All four tires were brand new. Anyway, when I walked in I saw this dark haired woman sitting at the counter in the waiting room. I asked where Marty was and she said we are the new owners. So, I asked if someone could check the tire pressure on my tires (a three minute task) and she said the service people were all busy and she could make me an appt, for Thursday. I said that wasn't really acceptable, as air was leaking. I left and on the way to my car I saw two service people standing by the stacks of tires outside just shooting the breeze. Busy, my foot. If that had been the old crew, they would have been right on it, even Marty had done that in the past. So, I went to Bert's (yes, I still call it that) and the kid came out, checked all my tires and the back passenger one was done 6 pounds. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Cahill's.

Someone tells me about Cahill, I call, they say sure, come anytime. The tire is fixed and I'm on my way in less than 20 minutes. I was honestly impressed. Certainly the most efficient tire repair operation I've seen in the US. You pull up in front, they jack up the car, remove the wheel, find the problem, fix it, and then put the tire back on. Bang, bang, bang. No pretense, no wasted effort. If you've got a flat near Bath, don't waste your time going anywhere else.
