Went in suspecting my brakes were bad. They told me the driveshaft broke and the whole back end could fall off. They had me tow it to a location 30 miles away, only for that mechanic to tell me it was in fact my brakes causing the noise. I requested the unnecessary tow be removed from the VIP bill. Manager refused, said her boss won't approve it, then got increasingly defensive. Received a call from her boss and he agreed, without argument, to reimburse me. So glad the Topsham mechanic wasn't available to work on my car at the time, or he would have torn it apart for no reason. AVOID THIS LOCATION. read more

I've been coming to this VIP for a couple years now - including yesterday. Tire change overs, inspection stickers, air and oil filter changes, brakes, regular mx, etc. My dad's ever present warning, "be careful they don't sell you things you don't need" has never applied. They've always been fair and honest. Once or twice there were additional things I needed (like brakes ) and they were factually needed! The mechanics showed me why they were making a recommendation. Up to me whether I follow it or not. Thank you!!! Service has always been done very quickly and at a fair price. They are communicative. I've never felt pressured to buy or do anything. My daughter had a set of new snow tires a little more than a year ago, and they started to cup on the outside front. This was on a brand new 2022 honda with suspension clean enough you could eat off it. The alignment was such that they quickly starting cupping and by the time she noticed it, it was enough to see the damage.... so damage was already done. Her 2022 Honda Civic should have been crazy easy to align and balance. I just bought a brand new top of the line set of rubber for $1,200 in March 2025, and my prior tires were worn with low tread but literally perfect, not a trace of wobble from 50-80mph, and not a trace of uneven wear. Literally not a trace of uneven wear. The new set had a significant wobble as soon as I left. I brought the vehicle back a couple weeks later they claimed to adj the balance and adjusted the alignment. The Ford Edge still wobbles, characteristic of a bad balance job, so it feels perfect up to 55 or so then it wobbles up to 75 then it feels like no wobble. So it is definitely not balanced. My front tire now has a road sound that is not crazy loud, but I can hear it, so it is not aligned or balanced or some mix thereof. The sound is characteristic of toe being off, I think. The car still wobbles around 55-70mph, so bad it makes papers in my truck violently shake. I then bought a gravity alignmment tool at Harbor Freight, and checked my wheels balance at home. And sure enough, two wheels were significantly out of balance. I took the ford edge immediately to a Ford Dealership and said nothing for history, just it shakes a tiny bit and had a road noise that should not be there, and they adjusted my alignment which was totally off. The dealership showed the before and after. Front wheels are supposed to barely turn to the inside, common knowledge. Not perfectly straight on and not barely to the outside. My front right was barely adjusted to go to the outside. The VIP tech did not understand alignments, and someone adjusted one wheel in the wrong direction. When TODD was at Topsham, this was a well run ship, I always had spot on alignments with Gary the tech at the time, and never ever had severe balance issues. The VIP when the manager was Todd was awesome. The VIP with no manager named Todd is not good. The new manager and techs are not trained to be expert, they do not perform at an expert level, and should not be advertises as professional, tires are really expensive and between Katies set and my new set, the techs incompetence is really costing us. We will be looking around to go elsewhere and will spread to word to avoid VIP for now in Topsham for seemingly shoddy work. the video shows 4 seconds slow highway speed on rt 196 in a section with no bumps, cracks or potholes, see how crazy the paper wiggles. Ugh. Very disappointed. Update, the front right wheel was a whopping 1oz off. No wonder it wobbled. This was after two visits in a row to have vip the new tires they put on, the second they balanced them one was 1oz off. Dan Foshays in Hallowell repaired it correctly w road test balancing and the youngest tech in that place looked like 40, their office (dan Foshays) had 25 sq feet of certifications included a thank you from the BBB. read more

Hit or a miss at this vip They've lost my wheel locks before They use inexperienced techs, that dont get the job done in over 2 hours to do an alignment/rotation/balance when NOT busy, and then put a more experienced tech when you callout their bullshit. Just bebetter read more

I had the most positive experience at VIP in Topsham today. Mike was outstanding and offered great customer service! He was polite and professional and didn't give off the smarmy vibe we ladies often get when we take the car in for service. I got four new tires and Mike made sure I got the best price available. I asked him if the guys could take a look at my brake pads while it was on the lift. He brought me back and showed me the brake pads himself, then told me I don't need to replace them yet, but should plan for rear brakes in the near future. He also noted the mileage of my car and what is recommended for upcoming maintenance, but told me the shocks and struts still look good and I can hold off. I interacted with two other employees who were both amazing, but sadly, I did not get their names. Car repairs are expensive, time-consuming, and intimidating to those of us who don't know a lot about cars. But today, I felt like I saved money, got in and out of there very quickly, and had everything explained to me in layman's terms but very respectfully. Thank you for the great service! Todd and his crew seriously impressed me. I only live in Maine seasonally and this is my second spring/summer there so i had yet to find a mechanic. My wife and I travel full-time and tow a fifth wheel so I drive an 07 dodge ram3500 dually and it seems like most of Maine does not have the correct lift or space for my truck. Todd's team diagnosed issues on my truck I'd needed done for a while and they replaced my drive shaft along with a lot of other overdue work. Todd was communicative and never condescending, explaining everything. And he worked to find someone to rebuild my drive shaft for much less than other quotes. I got great service at VIP in Topsham, ME. Mike and Gary were very helpful. I brought my Subaru Forester in with a slow tire leak. They diagnosed the problem and showed me the tear. In addition, Mike showed me the excessive wear on my other tires and recommended they all be replaced. He shared with me the 3 options and I decided to go with the high end tire. Great service! I called before I dropped in. John told me that they could get me right in. I got here, sure enough, I was in in 5 minutes. I had a pair of tires the I needed to be mounted on the front of my car. So I was expecting they would try to sell me tires. I usually buy all four at a time. So I inquired about the price of tires. The service manager was helpful and had a very competitive quote. While waiting I was entertained by a most inquisitive young lad, of 5 years old. He was full of excitement with the window that looks out at the garage, the tire and rim display. Which by the way are child proof! Ha I may be back. I will see what brand the guy in Richmond can get and compare apples for apples. As far as the price for the mounting and balancing of my two tires. It was just over fifty and change. Two things I like about VIP 1. Easy to get an appointment, even when other places are closed or booked solid. Evening and weekend hours are very helpful. 2. I appreciate that when I buy a small part (ex. wipers, headlight bulbs, etc.) someone is happy to install them for me. Much faster than muddling through it myself. read more

"vip bait & switch topsham!! buyer beware!!" the day before going to don foshay for my free estimate of $498 to fix my bad right front wheel bearing... i made the huge mistake of allowing the con artists who goes by the name vip discount auto in topsham, maine to give me what was supposed to be a free estimate at least that's what andy the mechanic and steve the manager said. neither of the 2 men i just mentioned was there for my appointment. instead this con woman named ashley, the asst mgr and melissa who had a telephone permanently attached to her ear standing at the front counter was just there as a decorative piece. i showed up a few minutes prior to my 1pm appointment on monday. ashley informed me that her computer was down and asked me what they were doing for me today! wow... that's great customer service!! most businesses also have a handwritten calendar on their workstation so they know who's scheduled for what at what time. they never took my car for a test drive after i described to ashley the sound of the b-52 landing on my roof at 45mph and above!! vip took 45 minutes to bring my car into the bay!! so much for my 1pm appointment scheduled by steve the mgr!! i attempted to turn on their satellite television and asked melissa if she could help me with their television but as she took the phone away from her mouth, she told me that she didn't know anything about the tv. she told me that ashley would help me when she got back to the counter. guess what? adjourned l ashley doesn't know anything about the television either!! all ashley knows is how to screw over this customer who had now waited just over an hour for my estimate. did i mention that nobody test drove my car ?! i had my estimate of what was wrong with my prius. ashley came over to me with estimate in hand... she told me that both front wheel bearings were bad as well as my drive shaft. she refused to tell me how much all that would cost me as she pointed to the $1,898 estimate. i kept asking her... how much will it be, but this assistant manager could only point to the receipt and couldn't utter the words... "one thousand eight hundred and ninety eight dollars!!" instead she piped up and said, "do you have aaa? let me rework that estimate to include your aaa discount!!" i asked ashley if the mechanic had taken the car for a road test? no but she'll ask him to do so. i came back from the restroom which if you follow the redline on the floor behind the counter is somewhere over by the 99 restaurant!! i saw my car sitting out front by the door. i asked, did the mechanic already drive my car?" her response was, "and who do you think is going to pay for the mechanics time to road test your car?" i said, just give me my keys and let me get out of here!! ashley responded, "let me just ring you up!!" what??? i was told that this was a free estimate when i scheduled the appointment! who told you that??? andy the mechanic did! well, he isn't supposed to quote prices!! how do you think our mechanics get paid for their time?! i asked where steve the manager was? ashley told me, "i'm the assistant manager and you have a charge to pay!! i raised my voice and told her that i wanted to speak to the manager! he's at our brunswick store today!! what's the phone number to reach steve? "this is called bait & switch!" i said. i'll do a-1 time courtesy adjustment for you and there's no charge today! i took my keys and called steve from my car very upset! i told steve the story .i told him that i was going to write a scathing yelp review about what happened at his topsham store! Their service team took the time to show me the problem underneath the vehicle in a way that I could understand and get the repairs needed. I've bought tires there and they've always gone out of their way to make sure that I had exactly what I needed. Even when there was not very much time left in the day I was able to call in and get an appointment right before they closed on something that I needed to have checked. I was in on Monday to have my car inspected.After sitting in the waiting room for about FIVE minutes the guy working the desk came in from the garage and told me the car failed. He said the mechanic named AL said the car needed new rear brake pads,rotors and oh yeah probably new front pads within six months.Given the reviews I had read BEFORE going in,the time spent supposedly inspecting the car and the milage on the vehicle I wasn't buying what they were trying to sell me.It was especially comical listening to the guy doing up an estimate mutter under his breath about the pricing being too high and so he was lowering it.I came out of there with an estimate for $351.65. I immediately came home and told me husband he needed to take the car to a reputable place.Well,he just came home with an inspection sticker on the car.He specifically asked the place he had it done at if there was anything to be worried about in the future and was told there was not.The back brake pads have been measured and are a bit over 4 mm.There is not a thing wrong with the rotors and nothing was even on the radar as far as brakes go.So that's quite a racket you got going there.It can't even be blamed on a crooked mechanic because the guy at the desk would have had to have known that there is no way an inspection was done in that short amount of time.I feel bad for any elderly folks that might go to VIP as they would certainly be viewed as an easy mark.I hope that $12.50 was worth yet another bad review. read more

Great Service! I ordered 4 BF Goodrich tires from tire rack, which came on time and I made sure I called ahead to plan to have my new tires mounted/rotated. The technicians are very smart, nice and honest. They made a point to keep me informed. Matthew did an awesome job on my tire rotation and recommended that I get a wheel alignment for my X3. It did take a while longer, but it was worth it. Matthew has great customer skills, very competent, respectful and personable. read more
