Back in February of last year, my Subaru busted a head gasket. I was able to limp to VIP in Brunswick, scared and curious as to what was going on with my car. A busted head gasket really is a death wish for Subaru's, Matt the manager called me and let me know how much it was going to cost. I told them to go ahead and do the work, and they started. I spent around $5,000 for them to fix my car. Half way through the fixing process I got a call from one of the workers at VIP saying he needed to put a new "engine block" in my car, and that VIP didn't have those, but he had one on him, and that he would sell that to me for $600. Not knowing what to do, I went ahead and bought the engine block. My car was finally finished, and when I left my low oil light came on, wasn't sure what was going on so I called VIP, and went there for them to take a look. They told me there was no oil leaking. I got home, and to my dismay, there was no oil leaking, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR. I went back to them, and they lifted my car and told me the technician who sold me this "engine block" didn't remove the old filter, and there was a pin hole in it, letting the oil leak out like a faucet. When they fixed it, they told me I could have died. That experience scared me, but I still put my faith in VIP when I had some steering stuff going on, I went there and spoke with Matt, who told me that I needed new steering pump, and I asked him if I could wait until I actually have money to do that, and he said "you'll be stranded on the side of the road somewhere if you wait." So, I waited, and that was 2 years ago. My steering is fine. VIP has made me scared for my life, no business should do that. I also found out that they NEVER PUT MY AC BACK TOGETHER. So, I have no AC anymore, because of their ignorance. I've called the branch in Topsham about 6 times in the last 3 months, asking them if they've gotten the part in, just to be told that they would call me back, and they never call back! Not once! I will never step foot in this place again, and other people shouldn't either. To top it off, when I went to the Topsham branch and told them about the events that took place in the Brunswick one, one of the technicians said my case was a "famous" case, one of the most messed up projects that they've ever had. I've tried to get ahold of the owner, I have just left messages and never hot a return call. EDIT: 03/29/21 VIP in Topsham is awesome, they took care of me and helped me get my AC back, they really stepped up to the plate. Call Topsham VIP for anything!! read more

Nice folks, but every single time they put my wheels on they use an impact wrench to tighten the lug bolts, and they are nearly impossible to get off. This last time I had to use a 5 foot pipe on a half-inch breaker bar to loosen them--heaven help me if I had to change a tire on the highway. Impact wrenches are for removal, but should never be used for tightening. They really should be torquing them to the proper specs and no more. read more

Had an all around terrible experience. Came in for an oil change and a state inspection, and I was failed for a front link in my suspension. They wouldn't tell me how much it was going to cost to repair because it was the end of the day, even though they were the ones that moved my appointment an hour later. I took my car to another local shop for the repair and nothing was wrong with my suspension. VIP is total crap. I should have listened to everyone before, and I learned the hard way. read more

Bought wheels and snow tires from Tire Rack, and had them delivered to VIP Tires (they have an arrangement with TireRack). Set up an appointment with VIP for a few days after the expected delivery. Tires/rims were ready to put on my car when I arrived at the shop. In and out in 30 minutes. Great service. As they requested, came back ~25 miles later to make sure the lug nuts were torqued appropriately. Quick, friendly service then, too. read more

We were visiting and had a seatbelt stuck in the the retractor. None of the Hyundai dealers would help. The gentlemen at the VIP in Brunswick were so nice, helpful and fast. They fixed it in about 10 minutes, and wouldn't let me pay. I would come back to them for any service if I am in the area. read more

The last yelp review was 100% honest but was taken down. I will shorten this one and let's see what happens The last review stated that I complained to VIP HQ in Maine and got no where. Is that one of the reasons why the last review was taken down? I stated that both VIP tire in Brunswick and Topsham had crappy service. One mechanic said that he would weld my trucks cracked frame at his house for $500. Another said my fuel line was bent but wasn't after I told him to point it out. Charged me an extra $100 to go to the Chevy dealership to get an OEM part. When I got the bill I was furious and complained. Thankfully the manager and I came to an agreement of a refund. Had an appointment at 1030am and sat until 4:50. One mechanic left to get a part and came back over an hour later. Then it was time for lunch. Then the one mechanic didn't know how to fix my problem so a request was sent out to another VIP for help. Lastly, I was blown off by HQ not apologizing or giving me satisfaction. I got the pre-recorded email. "We are committed to your satisfaction" and "We will look into this matter." I wrote again and no one responded. Thankfully there's more options available. I no longer care to spend one more time and my time with VIP tire. read more

My wife and I went in to get a slow leak on the right rear tire repaired. They couldn't identify the leak and removed the left side tires, front and rear, and replaced the supposedly leaking stems - though neither of them had required any air or registered low air pressure on the dash. This was done without consulting me or showing any evidence of a leak. Then they showed my wife the 'dirty' air filter, told her it should be replaced, and got her permission to do so but didn't speak to me (who would have recognized it as a common scam) though I was in the waiting room the entire time -she was outside because the waiting room smelled bad to her. The result? A bill for $180 and the tire that had gone low twice wasn't repaired. I paid and left since conversation got me nowhere. Unbelievable to me that this sort of thing still goes on. This was on Saturday, 3pm - 4pm on August 5th, 2023. I hope the district manager reads this and investigates. read more

I got a piece of metal in a tire on the way to meet a friend which was an hour away from home. We purchased a new set of tires from VIP in Saco last month, so it was very upsetting to need to replace a tire so soon. I worked with Micheal, and he was fantastic! He was very friendly and helpful. We had not purchased the maintenance package when we bought the tires. He allowed me to buy it and replaced the tire for me. It was done by the time I had finished brunch, and I was able to get home without delay. read more

I was on a trip and my light in my car went out. Replacing it meant taking the hood off and maybe an hour of labor - not a quick fix. These guys fit me in not only once, but twice. The first time they fit me in knowing I had to have the car back by a certain time for work. When the light went out a day later because of an unknown wire issue, the manager Todd was extremely helpful in fitting me in first thing the next morning and not charging me for the parts or labor on the second appointment. These guys made me a priority, and addressed an issue that came up quickly. read more

I came here for an oil change because I got a card in the mail for a $10 special and proceeds would be donated. I found everyone I came into contact with there extremely polite and professional. I was in and out in about 30 mins and during that time I had numerous employees strike up a friendly conversation or offer me a complimentary beverage. Honestly, I only went there because of the deal but I think I found my new spot for an oil change! read more

These guys went above and beyond for me. At 4:30 on a Friday I got a flat tire and they were the only ones still open. They were supposed to close at 6 but waited for AAA to come get me and tow me to them. Then they realized that my tires were unusual and they didn't have them in house. One of the guys drove all the way to Lewiston to pick it up for me so they could get it done that night. They worked until 6:45 for me and charged a reasonable rate and were super friendly and kind the whole time. So pleased with their customer service! read more

They charged $130 for changing winter tires back to summer tires! I usually pay half that amount. They didn't even put the winter tires in new bags. They reused the old torn up bags. I won't be returning to VIP. read more

I really needed a tire replaced in order to go to work later on and nobody would help me. I talked to Mike the manager 30 minutes before they closed and he went above and beyond and mananged to squeeze me in. Great customer service. Clean waiting area. Friendly staff. I have now visited this location twice for an oil change and some brake work. Each time everyone there has been very pleasant to deal with while keeping me informed on any and all issues. Rob and Jessica have taken great care of my vehicle each time I've been there and I would certainly recommend them to anyone in need of service in the Midcoast region. This is this worst place in Bath Maine. I took a tire which had a slow leak and they not only told me I needed 1 new tire, but all four. They also said I needed an alignment which I just had a month ago. These guys act like they are paid on commission. read more

I'm hoping the other reviews are for something in Bath, not Brunswick. I have taken my cars to Brunswick for years. Just recently my daughter needed to use "fix a flat" and went in for a new tire. They told her she didn't need a new tire and just cleaned out the old one. That was months ago. The guys in Brunswick have always explained exactly what they are doing, options available, etc. I used to work on my cars - these guys are not trying to mislead you. And my daughters and I have always been treated with the utmost respect. I have had poor luck with the VIP in Yarmouth, but the Brunswick guys are fantastic. Super great and considerate. I have brought my van in 4 times to VIP Brunswick. They have helped me with rear light issues, oil changes, check engine lights, squeezed me in last minute, etc. I have never been over nor incorrectly charged. Quite the opposite!! This is the worst experience I have ever had at a garage in my life. They nickel and dime you to death and their rates are unreasonably high. They fabricated problems with your vehicle. They told me I needed new spark plugs when I had already replaced them myself the month before. After failing my car for inspection and giving me a quote of over $1,000 to fix they scraped my old sticker off. read more

About 6 months ago while in Maine I blew a brake line. Today the very same spot where VIP repaired it blew again an my mechanic in Ct.said its because it was rubbing on my tire every time I turned an VIP did not put a clamp to ensure this wouldn't happen. Luckily I was parked when it blew an imagine if a car was in front of me! I would have sued VIP for negligence! read more

We had the opposite experience. We were quoted a high price for a repair--and VIP came in way under. This has happened several times. These guys and nice and they will help out with little things on very short notice, too. This past weekend I went to get my summer tires put on. I knew that I would have to purchase one or 2 new tires, but I was not expecting to be told I would need 4 new tires. The gentleman brought out one of my tires to show me the worn tread and told me it was "the best of the bunch", so I'd need 4 brand new ones. I said I would have to come back a different day because I wasnt prepared to spend $550 at that moment, so he gave me my keys and I was on my way. When I got home, I wanted to take another look at all of my tires, but realized that they never put them back in the trunk. My fiance and I returned to the shop and politely explained that I realized they werent in my trunk and that I would like them back. The guy said he assumed I wouldn't want them back because all 4 of the tires were bad, and proceeded to show my fiance the same tire he showed me, again explaining that it was the best of the 4. They agreed to give me my tires back and loaded them into the trunk. When I got home, I discovered that the "best" tire he showed my fiance and I was in fact the worst of the 4, and that 2 of the tires still had plenty of tread. This morning I got a second opinion from another local shop, who agreed that 2 of the tires were still good and would easily pass inspection. I am beyond frustrated that I was lied to, that my fiance was lied to, that they tried to keep my "bad" tires without asking, and that they were trying to run a scam on me. I'm very disappointed and you will be losing all of our business in the future. read more

We visited VIP for the first time to get our car inspected. Everyone was very friendly and easygoing. Car passed with no problems, they let us know how our brakes looked and replaced our windshield wipers. Quick, no problems, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Found a flat tire on our mini van and needed to get to work. Called and spoke to Ben at VIP in Brunswick and he said to bring it right in. Not only did he take the vehicle immediately, but he found the problem (2 nails!!) , plugged the holes and sent me on my way within 20 minutes. Cheerful, kind and quick!
