You'll end up with a friend of a friend, or that guy your cousin used in 1991 whose rates have tripled, or the guy whose mantra is "don't worry, I got this" So it's with a lot of surprise and pleasure that I report that I finally found a good car mechanic who meets the holy grail of criteria: honest, smart, good people person, nearby, good rates, great front desk. Eric is the mechanic, and he not only knows which way is up on your car (not always a guarantee, trust me), he will explain why it is up and not down and how it might be even more up, in plain English, in a completely understandable way. Not a common skill, believe me. He clearly is all about cars, is a total car person, and I'll be having him do everything I can't do myself from now on. Kristyn is up front and took care of things lickety split. Smiles, laughter, and good vibes great you when you walk in, which also is a pretty rare thing in the scowl-heavy world of mechanics. She's a gem. One last note: the garage is incredibly clean. I have spent a lot of time about cars and mechanics generally and I have seen some stuff in my time, and Eric's garage is by far the cleanest I've ever encountered. No black smudges on the floor, all tools in their rightful place, everything seems color coded or to be in a purposeful place... I was impressed. Robert is not the kind of mechanic who tries to upsell you on a bunch of expensive work your car may or may not need. He'll take a look at it, let you know what the issues are and options/pricing to fix, and then let you decide what (if any) work you want done. Once after Robert did a diagnostic for me I found out that the part was still under warranty so I could get the dealer to fix it for free - and Robert said that's exactly what he would do in my situation. Then the dealer proceeded to try and upsell me on $750 worth of "preventative maintenance", and I was reminded of why I prefer Robert! He's always been honest and upfront with us. They require sellers to deliver the vehicle to the dealership, stating they will reimburse the cost of a rental car for the trip home since they do not pick vehicles up. I followed their process exactly and rented a car for the return trip. Despite multiple attempts to contact them afterward, I was never reimbursed for the rental they recommended. . Payment was also delayed. They received the title on February 5th but did not issue payment until February 13th, and that only occurred after I reached out twice asking for an update. Another concerning point: the truck was listed for sale on their website before they had paid me or even received the title. To make matters worse, my license plates were never returned. I have documentation of the agreements, the premature listing, timeline of title delivery and payment, and my attempts to follow up about the rental reimbursement. Overall this process felt disorganized, poorly communicated, and far more difficult than it should have been. If you plan to sell a vehicle here, I strongly recommend getting everything in writing and being prepared for delays, last-minute price changes, and follow-up issues.

Johnny happily remembered me, asked about my family, checked the manufacturer's recommended pressure inside the door jamb, and filled all four tires while we caught up. That warmth is matched by extraordinary service. When my niece's car would not start several blocks away and she hoped to avoid paying for a tow, Johnny walked over to examine it. When a friend was stranded in Takoma and needed to leave town, he helped get her car running in time. I have also brought prospective car purchases to him for honest pre-purchase inspections. Johnny stepped back from the business several years ago to spend more time with his newborn, but when he heard that customers were dissatisfied with the way it was being managed, he came out of semi-retirement. His name, standards, and reputation in the community mattered too much to him to let the business decline. Johnny is honest, reliable, and willing to bend over backwards to accommodate his customers whenever possible. He would also be perfectly happy to share a cup of tea or Turkish-style coffee while discussing your car and what it genuinely needs. They had my car all fixed up and ready to go, with all new parts, by the end of the following day. THE BAD: not once but two times the repair was delayed by "we got the wrong part" THE UGLY: I did not notice until after i had already left their shop (did not happen on the 5 min drive to where i was staying to pick up my personal luggage) but there seems to be a spot where the arm of a car lift struck my drivers door chipping the paint down to the bare metal that i will now also have to repair.
