We have owned our Beneteau 361 since new and with the rigging at 24 years old just beginning to worry about a failure. Although not inexpensive it is great to have the peace of mind that our rig is secure and ready to take on the weather and waves that the Northwest has to throw our way. Last summer, Justin at Port Townsend Rigging performed a rig inspection for our 30' cutter…read moresailboat. He said the rigging wire was showing signs of age, which was over 20 years of age, and he recommended it be replaced if we planned to go offshore. I scheduled the rigging wire replacement with Port Townsend Rigging for early March 2025. They performed the work while the boat was in the water at their dock in Boat Haven. Justin and his team completed the work in a couple of weeks. I am delighted with their work. The work was thorough and professional. Tensioning the whisker stays of the bowsprit is a challenge because of the close fitting gammon iron. It's easy to damage the bowsprit paint if not tensioned correctly. Justin's careful attention to detail paid off because he insured the whisker stays were tensioned evenly so as to keep the bowsprit centered while tensioning. It was also easy to work with Sarah on obtaining an estimate, scheduling and final invoicing. The invoice was higher than the estimate partly because I had requested the running back stays and topping lift rope rigging be replaced, which were not on the estimate. Sarah helped me understand the other additional costs that were not included the estimate, which involved replacing the whisker stays and bob stay wire. The estimate and final invoice were close if the additional costs were not factored in. I have worked with Port Townsend Rigging since we launched our cutter 20 years ago when they installed the mast and the original rig. I have used them ever since, and I have always be happy with the services they provide. I highly recommend them.

Throughout our trip we saw: egg yolk jellyfish, sea stars, crabs, harbor seals, blue heron, and a mussel farm. As an avid kayaker, it was nice to paddle unhurriedly and enjoy the scenery. Moreover, the tandem kayaks were easy to use. A big thanks to Sue and "the other guy" who took care of us from beginning to end.

The cabins are all situated in a way that you don't really notice the other guests. The owners are great, very nice and respectful. The first time there, Lavon gave us a tour of all the cabins when we were scouting places for my boyfriend's sister's wedding. She ended up choosing a place on the peninsula but my boyfriend and I returned here shortly after the wedding because we liked it so much. On the return trip we met the other owner briefly, she saw us out for a walk with our dogs petted them and then we didn't see another soul again for the remainder of our stay. Staying here is like staying at a family member or friend's cabin. It's homey, comfortable and feels lived in. Each cabin has it's own unique decor and feel. They are clean but not hospital sterile. If you're looking for an on-call front desk and team of staff waiting on you, this isn't the place for you. If you want a place to marvel at your surroundings, breath in fresh air, and enjoy some piece and quite with your dogs, you won't find a place better than this.

They start off with a half hour introduction that includes each of their backgrounds regarding kayaking experience and some of the knowledge they have gained that pertains to the kayaking tour. Then they give a brief lesson about the bioluminescent plankton, then the safety talk. By the end of the talk you can tell how much they all love what they do and how committed they are to making sure you are safe and that you have a wonderful experience. The kayaking was easy, nothing strenuous, making it easy to watch the bioluminescence. And the bioluminescence was absolutely magical! They look like fireflies in the water! You can light them up with your paddle or even your hands. If you stir the water and scoop it up you can even get some lit-up plankton in your hand.. I would highly recommend Olympic Outdoor Center for this tour and we plan on returning again!

Washington State Ferries (WSF), Kennewick vessel, Friday, August, 16, 2024, 9:30 am. We were on a…read moreroad trip in a Class B RV (which is van-sized), and needed to travel from Port Townsend, WA to Coupeville, WA. In investigating our options on a mapping app, we found that we had two options -- to drive about 215 miles (4 hours, 45 minutes, plus toll) OR take a ferry (about 8 miles, 45 minutes plus wait time). With some apprehension about how it would work with our oversized and tall vehicle, we decided to take the ferry. We made a reservation online about two weeks before our planned trip, and many of the time slots for our preferred travel date were already taken but we were still able to get a slot at 9:30 am. The reservation "no show" fee was $10, charged only if the reservation is not used. We were pleased to find that there was a category to identify our vehicle as being "under 22' in length, and 7'6" to 13' tall." (There are also options to ride standby when vessel space is available). Washington State Ferries has loading down to a science. On our travel day, we were warmly greeted by the attendant at the entrance tollbooth. One senior (my husband) with vehicle under 22' was $15.30, while I was counted as an adult passenger for $4.10, for a total of $19.40 for two people and the RV. After paying, we were directed by staff to park in a specific lane (with other RVs) and allowed to disembark from our vehicle to grab a coffee or use the restrooms. The process of loading the ferry was highly organized. Every inch of space seemed to be used -- without unused space but also without there being vehicles that didn't fit. We were most impressed in seeing how easily an 18-wheeler semi also fit! After all of the vehicles were parked, the ferry left the dock and many passengers left their vehicles to move upstairs for the water views or to grab a snack. Disembarking in Coupeville was equally efficient. Overall, we had a great experience -- smooth sailing, efficient operations -- but also recognize that service disruptions may occur due to adverse weather conditions or emergency repairs. On this particular day, we were fortunate to have saved hundreds of miles and hours of driving, and nice smooth sailing. One small quibble. We found the WSF's website to be confusing for newcomers to ferry operations. .

Also, the guy standing on the curb near the entrance, who informed us of the cancellations, told us that there were no reservations available for any other crossings, even later in the evening. This proved to be completely false, as we booked a reservation five minutes afterward, and by mid afternoon, the winds had subsided enough that we were able to board and cross without any issue. Government incompetence at its finest!

The Mason family is awesome and I'm hoping they'll adopt me soon. lol Relaxed, but professional. Attentive and patient. I have loved flying all my life and the smaller the plane the better. Flying in an open cockpit plane is even more amazing. If you ever get the chance to do it, don't hesitate. I have also always wanted to do aerobatics, but have never had the opportunity. Imagine how thrilled I was to find out I could take off in an open cockpit plane and not only get to finally do a loop, but to be able to stand on the wing while we did it! #$@%^@#! Nothing cooler than climbing out of a flying airplane and standing on top of it while doing aerobatics. Jut stop reading this and call them.
