Just know what you're getting yourself into. We did this on a Sunday, tour company owner as guide** They arrived late, overbooked and made one couple not come on the tour after texting at 1030pm trying to get 4 to cancel, I guess they got 2. Anyway after they made one couple take a hike we piled in an 8 person van. You can't really see out of the windows and our guide just sort of talks to himself, only sometimes using the microphone (I preferred silence to his banter though). Van smells like a unkempt zoo. You drive around and listen to him and not see anything for about 1.5 hours, a couple stops though for pics. Then you get to the golden gate park area which is very nice, good spot for pics on the SF side. Then across the bridge, but again you cannot see anything cause the van is garbage. Other side of bridge again stop for pics, nice. Very windy road on the next stint, starting to be aggravating in the van. Now Muir Woods which was really cool but you only get 1 hour, I could have spent 3. He tell us to meet him there in 1 hour (1140 in this case) it's pouring by the end and he is late by 5 mins of us just standing in the rain. Now lunch stop on the way back, just pulls into a health food store and lets us out, we have no idea of if we are eating there or what, we are, kind of like a Whole Foods situation, no seating, many stand to eat. He is kind of mad at me because he was waiting outside but we had no idea he was even there lol. Back across the bridge, painted lady stuff and a stop on the top of a lookout point which was neat. At this point I am unable to get back into the van, it smells like a hamster cage in there and I have been nauseated for 2h. I Uber back. Zero stars should be a thing. If you read no more, read this: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! My best friend and I traveled to San Francisco as the first stop on our tour of California. We booked the city tour over a month in advance via Groupon (a company I've used for years). We didn't rent a car while staying in San Fran because the city is so accessible through public transportation. So, this tour was perfect because we were so excited to see the hot spots of San Francisco. The tour on the computer at Groupon.com and though I received email verification from Groupon, no communications were received from Left Coast tours. First red flag. Due to the fact that no customer to company direct communication, the initial meet up location and process was quite confusing. The address listed was 5th & Market Street. We arrived and didn't see any signage, groups waiting or anything that could confirm this was where we should be. And though we called while in route to the above location just to make sure we were heading to correct local we received no indication that we were heading in the wrong direction. Everything listed on the Groupon and the company website was contradictory so we called again to get clarification. We called at least 9 times with no answer. We walked to another address that as listed on Google, which was another hotel (not listed on the company website). At this point, it was 15 minutes beyond the time when the tour was to begin. To say we were frustrated would be an understatement. After half an hour we got ahold of the administer at the home base of Left Coast Tour office. He explained he would track down the driver and get back to us. He did not. We called. And called. And called. Only to be directed to another hotel which we needed to cab to. We obliged not wanted to waste an entire afternoon for nothing. When we arrived, still, no driver. The only man to answer the contact info listed said "he could not locate the driver", "this never happens" and "he's been calling him for 45 mins". What kind of tour company cannot find their tour driver, I asked? We were then given the DRIVER's number who we called at least 20 combined times between the both of us. Nothing. No answer whatsoever. This situation was handled extremely unprofessional and upset that my time and money was wasted. This company is a shame and left a bad taste in my mouth and was 100% not worth the frustration. Our fix: Go to the official visitor center and have them guide you to any of the many reputable sites and tours the city has to offer. They are open regular business hours and will help you for free. If they're closed, Union square has multiple companies running at all times from the bus port. Bottom line: LEFT COAST TOURS IS WASTE OF MONEY/TIME/ENERGY read more

Started out bad. They overbooked. So we had to listen to the tour guide/driver talk to the people we were not picking up about a refund or alternate tour inside the already crowded ford 350 they were using for a tour van. It got better as the 3hr tour went on though. We hit several great spots and the driver was knowledgeable about Frisco neighborhoods and the surrounding area. Overall it was a good semi personal 3hour tour. Next time we will pay a little more to get a better touring vehicle. read more

Customer service needs work. I bought a Groupon and called to ask questions on how to go about booking my tour. The guy on the phone was quick to cut me off as soon as I mentioned I was paying with a Groupon and said they weren't doing tours and didn't know when they would start again. I found this odd since they are currently advertising their tours on Groupon and their website shows they'd be back onJanuary 2nd, 2018. He said to call Groupon to get my money back. Do not book through Groupon! We booked our tour 3 months before our San Francisco trip after buying on Groupon. We got dressed and went to the pick up location at 8am. After not seeing anyone for the tour or a van to pick us up, we called the company. We were told that they texted everyone the day before and it was cancelled due to an emergency. We understand emergencies happen, but we never received a text and we received a confirmation email the day before. I tried to get email confirmation that it was cancelled, but they have not replied. Horrible customer service. Luckily, through going back and forth with Groupon I was able to get a refund, but be aware, Groupon's policy does say no refunds 3 days after your purchase. After reading everyone's reviews and seeing that many posted about cancelled tours, I wish I would have listened and not booked. We were really looking forward to seeing the city and Muir Woods. Extremely disappointed and hopefully I make it back to San Francisco one day to see it all. read more

So grateful we found this tour on Groupon. We were only in San Francisco for a few days but wanted to see the city. It was a few years that we visited the city so we wanted to play tourist. We bought the tour that included miur woods and it was awesome. The tour takes six hours so be sure to pick which your will work best with you. We had an awesome time with Barry at our City Tour + Muir Woods tour. Like many other reviewers, I purchased these tickets on Groupon and was worried the negative reviews were correct. I have to be honest, I have no idea what these people are talking about. Our tour started on time, the van was clean, and there was plenty of window room to get a view of the sites. Like @courtney mentioned, this is a great tour for your first day in San Francisco, as it provides a peek into what the city has to offer. The city tour itself allowed us to decide that we wanted to explore two separate neighborhoods the following day. As for the Muir Woods tour, if you have the time and like nature, I highly recommend adding it to your game plan. It was a great hour of exploring nature and enjoying what the non-city part of San Fran has to offer. For lunch, we went to this awesome health foods super market that has plenty of hot and cold lunches. Tyana is the BEST!! The tour started out simply enough. At her recommendation, we started the morning at Muir Woods where our little group of 8 pretty much had the park to ourselves before the giant tour busses full of screaming kids showed up to fill the park. A beautiful but uneventful drive back to the city, across the bridge and through the Presidio was peppered with several little photo opportunity stops. Once we hit the Castro District, all regular tour routes were impassable thanks to several marches and protests. Tyana took it all in stride, taking us down back roads, showing us Dorothy Park, Mission Style Churches and pointing out amazing hole in the wall restaurants we needed to try! I had a great experience with Left Coast Tours. I was able to buy a few Groupons and take my family on their tour around SF. Traffic was everywhere due to the holiday, but that is not something Left Coast Tours can control. We had Tyana as our tour guide and driver. She was fantastic and had lots of information to share about SF and the different spots we got to hit up. Keep in mind that you'll be in a 12 passenger VAN not a double decker bus. I'm not sure why I assumed we'd be in a bus, but I'm glad we were in a van. Yeah, there were moments where it was hard to see some of the sights that we were just passing by through the windows of the van, but imagine this, would you feel safe in a double decker bus driving up Twin Peaks?! I don't think so! Tyana managed to drive us everywhere safely up and down the hills of SF. Even through traffic, she handled it well and kept a smile on her face! We got to see so many sights I would not have discovered on my own. Tyana had charisma and was friendly, always offering to take our family pictures in front of the tourist attractions too. The tour is long, and there aren't stops for food (at least not the one I was on), so remember to bring a bottle of water and some light snacks. This was a great way to see most of SF's hot spots in a day, and I'll be sure to visit them more in depth on my own another time. There are a number of pros and cons with this tour. Let's start with cons so we can end on a positive note. Calling to make sure they have availability was a hassle. They did not answer any of our calls throughout the span of three days. They eventually called us back. Then the tour itself was all over the place. We waited 10-15 min because the tour before us was running late so that kinda of messed up timing for our tour. We were rushing to see spots before they closed. Then it came to a point where it was either "this" or "that" to see before the tour time was up. However on a positive note Barry, the tour guide was super informative and knew his shit. He even had pictures to show the area from before it was reborn. Overall it was decent tour for what we paid on Groupon. read more

By far the worst tour I've ever experienced in my life. Don't be fooled by the five star reviews - this tour is a joke. We purchased off Groupon and was told to be at Parc 55 at 2pm sharp. We got there at 1:50p and at 2:15p we call the company and they say they're running late because of traffic- but should arrive NLT 2:30. I ask - "where you going to call us and let us know because we've been out here waiting?!?" The operator says "well sometimes there's traffic...and could you let the rest of the people out there waiting know." Meanwhile I'm just staring at the phone in disbelief. So this guy finally shows up - no apologies, nor does he acknowledge his tardiness . He tells half of us to get in one van and we are sitting and waiting for several minutes until finally he tells us to get out of the van and get into another one because 6 people didn't show up and they want to consolidate. Sooooo we get out this van and get into a very dirty one...like there's still trash left over from another tour in the back seat. We have a new guy who says he's our driver because some dude named Alex didn't show up for work today. I say around 2:45 we ARE FINALLY HEADED ON THE 2 pm TOUR. We go thru Chinatown first and the history we were hoping to get is a JOKE. Our driver is on his cellphone and driving thru traffic with one hand like we are just uber passengers and not like we paid money for a tour. I mean sometimes he talks in the microphone but mostly it's for a corny joke. We're never told what our next destination is and the guy is not telling us anything relevant to SF. He's mainly talking about the pedestrian he almost ran over in a cross walk and horse stables. By the time we actually get to the photo op destination spots we are tired and cold and ready to go. I guess that what happens when you leave 45 mins late. We finally start heading back to Parc 55 and he's not even talking, he zoned out and turned up the radio. This was TOTALLY worth it! We did the SF local trip only because we were short on time. I will gladly book the longer one next time I visit. BARRY was a friendly and informative tour guide/driver. He used a microphone headset thingy which made it clear and easy to hear him. His detailed historical information was TOP NOTCH. It was informative with touches of humor. We purchased the City Tour + Muir Woods through Groupon, and found it easy to book the tour by calling the company just a few days in advance. Our tour guide was Jeffrey, who had plenty of knowledge & humor throughout the tour. He was hilarious and made several stops for photo opportunities, which is always appreciated. We hit all of the main sights and spent about an hour in Muir Woods. I'd recommend this tour for one of your first days in San Francisco - it is very much breadth over depth, but we were okay with that. It gave us an overview of the city and helped us decide which of the sights we wanted to go back and spend more time exploring and which ones were just "quick hits" - get a photo and move on. The only reasons we knocked it down a star were that we were picked up 10 minutes late without any notice and the windows in the van are kind of small, so it was hard to see sights that were not on your side of the van. We bought a last minute voucher from Groupon for the six hour tour for two. The tour itself turned out to be less than six hours (we were picked up late and didn't stop at all the tour destinations listed on the site). We also weren't told that we had to pay for the entrance fee at Muir Woods on Groupon or when we registered with Left Coast Tours. And while the tour guide provide some history about SF and the sites, he did ramble quite a bit about non-SF related things. The best part was Muir Woods and for that we could have done on our own / the guide didn't come in with us. This was a small bus guide and it was really great. If you want a big bus where your questions will probably go unheard or ignored and you share a bus with 40+ people then try another tour, but if you want an intimate and person tour that is focused around you then this is great Our tour guide was about 5 min late, but he made up for it by taking us to extra places after the tour was supposed to have ended. I'm not going to say this was the worst tour I've ever been on but it was not good. It started late by about 15-20 minutes. We did get a text saying he would be 5 minutes late. Starting off bad already! We get into the van which is really a commute van and definitely was not intended for sightseeing. It's almost impossible to see anything out of the windows. You really have to contort your body to get a view. This is very disappointing since the majority of the tour is driving around. There were times in which we stopped for pics but at every stop we were told to "make it quick" and comments like "I'm not really supposed to park here" made it hard to enjoy the stop. Also, the van is small and very difficult to get in and out of. My husband is over 6 feet and trying to climb in and to the back seat just became too stressful and we stayed in the van. There was also a baby in a car seat that added an additional 5 minutes to our "make it quick" stops! About halfway into our tour we started We hearing "we are running a bit behind" so each stop became a one pic and back in the van event. We only got 40 minutes at Muir Woods because we were running late. We didn't get back to the drop off spot until 2:25 and the folks who were supposed to get the 2:00 tour climbed right into our van once we got out. No cleaning the van in between tours. Not good for them! I got a Groupon so we only paid half price but even with that I think it is definitely over priced for the experience. Our driver Barry had a few interesting stories but most of the time we couldn't hear him. We had our own conversations in the back of the van. The best part of the tour was our 70 degree weather but that had nothing to do with the tour company! read more

The itinerary was our choice! Awesome experience. I feel so lucky for catching this tour during the $49 sale! My friends and I took this tour with our kids and had SO MUCH fun. This van is so comfy for a day on the town with or without kiddos. The tour guide, Stephen, is so great with kids (careful, he has waters and chocolates for the munchkins) and has such a sweet and funny personality. He's full of history about San Francisco- he's like an encyclopedia! We had a ball playing historical trivia and when we reached our destinations, which was to our own choosing, we were WOWED. The view of San Francisco from Treasure Island is gorgeous. Twin Peaks was SO hard to leave because the stunning arial view of the entire city below. For Sausalito I have no words, just breathtaking. The Wharf, the Golden Gate bridge and an endless many places to look-on from are a sight to be seen at least once in everyones life, I say! I still don't know how to explain how a person can see so many visually delicious views in a single day. Muir Woods is a spiritual experience to say the least when looking up at the gorgeous trees just standing in their rightful place in history. If you enjoy museums, art and music there are artists performing in the coolest little areas. We stopped off at a coffee shop and he was right there to pick us up at the drop of a hat when we let him know we were ready to get back to discovering. I don't think there's enough space on here to babble on about what went on that day. Scene: Super shady area of San Francisco. Very warm afternoon. Characters: People from all over the USA. 1. Vato who claims he's from Virginia. Likely in the witness protection program. Likes to call all women "baby".2. Older couple. Woman clearly has limited cultural experiences. 3. Woman with 10 year old who she keeps telling to "shut up". 4. Other travelers who remain silent, shocked, or both. 5. Driver who is quite knowlegeable with a pit bull attitude. Tour is to begin at 2:00. No van. No text. No email. No call. 2:10, nothing. 2:20, nothing. I call at 2:25 and am told by an irritated man, "There's traffic, nothing we can do. She'll be there in 10 minutes!" Van pulls up, driver says, "I've got room for 4!" Four people hop in an empty van and speed off. Wth?! It's 2:45, another van pulls up. People pile out, cast piles in. No apologies, no tidying up the van, just an excuse of traffic. Drove through Chinatown. Guide points to Lombard Street. Quick stops at Palace of Fine Arts where tourguide yells, "Could you move!You're in my blindspot!" at a nice man who helping her back out of a tight spot. Other stops included Golden Gate, Pacific Heights neighborhood, and Twin Peaks. Drove through Haight/Ashbury. When in the Castro neighborhood, Mr. Virginia yells, "ARE YOU SHITTIN' ME?!?!" As he sees a naked homeless man. Guide admonishes him. The woman with a child was too busy scarfing down a meatball sub to notice. Although she did find time to photograph gay men (minding their own business!)walking around SF. Classy. Random topics of conversation pop up all along the way including the lawsuit involving McDonald's & hot coffee which really got the older lady upset. The rest of us sat there wanting to jump through the window and hoping the tour would end early. The tour guide was late and then lied to us when we called and asked where he was. We didn't go to half of the places that are listed on the six hour list and the tour guide was unbearable. The best way I can describe our tour guide and owner Steve is that drunk, awkward, loves to hear himself talk uncle that corners you at family gatherings and you can't get him to stop rambling. Imagine being trapped in a car with him for six hours and what's worse is his ramblings were not even about San Francisco. I was happy I got a good deal for a 3 hour city tour with Left Coast and my party was looking forward to enjoying the typical highlights of San Francisco. Steve even said he would be flexible to include the things we most wanted to see. We were told the tour would begin at our pickup spot near Union Square and after seeing the sights which were advertised as Painted Ladies, Twin Peaks, Lombard Street, Haight Ashbury, and several other popular sites, we would go to the Presidio and across the Golden Gate Bridge. Upon pick up we quickly left the city through the Polk district, with very little mention of what we were passing except for a bar unless we asked. Steve's dialog had emphasis on the sordid history of SF and red light districts even though there were several children present and in spite of redirection of wanting to see and hear about the city's popular sites. We went to the Presidio and then got in horrible traffic across the Golden Gate Bridge. Steve asked if we wanted to go to the viewing point or into Sausalito. We said viewing spot, but then he said no, Sausalito for ice cream. Sausalito was tremendously impacted with people and it took several hours to get back across the bridge. The tour was schedule to end at 5:30 and it was closer to 8 when we final finished being dropped off at Pier 39, but all we really saw of SF was the bridge. We only had one full day to spend in SF and it was mostly spent in traffic in Sausalito. (With a crying baby and increasingly cranky tourists.) The van was comfortable but trash was left from the morning tour. Steve was on the phone conducting job interviews at times. He was calm given the traffic problems, and may have had interesting history if we had seen anything else. In the end, I spent 5.5 hours on a tour van and never really got to see the city. Would highly recommend based solely on the fact of how spread out San Francisco is. Our tour guide was funny and knowledgeable and we packed a ton of sites in during the three-hour tour. My husband and I traveled to San Francisco as the first stop on our Honeymoon road trip through California. I booked the Muir Woods and City tour on 6/19 mainly because of the Muir Woods portion of the tour. We didn't rent a car while staying in San Fran because the city is so accessible through public transportation. So, this tour was perfect because we were so excited to see the Muir Woods. I had booked the tour over the phone with Steve, and received email confirmation back in June. The morning before the tour, I called Steve to see if we needed to bring lunch or if we'd be stopping. He was pleasant on the phone, remembered that we had 2 people in our party, and I told him how excited I was about the tour. He told me how we'd be stopping for lunch but we should pack so snacks due to the 6 hour duration of the tour. Fast forward 2 hours, I receive a text message, yes you read that right a TEXT MESSAGE, stating "Left Coast Tours can not take you no your tour tomorrow. We would like to reschedule your tour for tomorrow morning or for a later trip. Please advise." PLEASE ADVISE?!? I called Steve back and expressed my disappointment and shared how we were unable to go the next day as we would be leaving. I scheduled in advance for a reason. He told me that they were having an issue with OVER BOOKING with their new booking company and that "well we have to cancel someone". He also blamed the text message on his father stating that he's getting old as some sort of excuse for the lack of professionalism. I will give him credit for offering us the city only tour for free, but we weren't interested in that tour, we were interested in the tour we booked, so we declined. I also wasn't interested in working with this company at that point. I found the way this situation was handled extremely unprofessional and I am still confused as to why Steve didn't say anything when I spoke to him on the phone 2 hours before the text message. read more
