Classic VW Bus and Golden Gate Bridge

Chad(the driver/tour guide) and Harvey(the blue VW Bus) were exceptional hosts. They both cheerfully drove us around the beautiful city of San Francisco. It was a great experience for my family as we got to see and learn so much more than we would have with a big tour company(think double decker hop on/off). I truly felt like a local for the morning. Hands down the best tour in SF. Highly recommend for a family or anyone looking for a more intimate tour experience. Definitely worth a repeat on our next SF adventure!

Right off the bat, when meeting Chad, he adds a whole another, pleasant layer to the experience of a private tour in SF. Chad is funny, knowledgeable, and very accommodating, specifically by providing light snacks and not rushing our group which consisted of one older person with limited mobility. We have been to San Francisco many times as a resident of Sacramento, but Chad's tour totally broadened ourperspective on the city of San Francisco. Chad gave us local tips for where to eat... Including where to take a pass. He highlighted beautiful vistas in the city, while also providing great historical context to really understand how the city was developed. And probably one of the most enjoyable aspects of the experience is traveling through the city in his VW bug, which was very comfortable with no obstructed view based on the window orientation of a VW bug bus. It was just a great experience overall and we recommend it to anyone! We would love to pay for another tour with him, just going to local food hot spots for a day. Overall, we highly recommend this tour, because if you're not a local and you think you know the city of SF you might be in for Revelation on this tour. Mike and Charlotte J

Our Vantigo Tour with Chad was the BEST way to spend our first day in SF! We hit all the hot spots which gave us a better lay-of-the land for the remainder of our trip. The VW bus Lillie is a fully restored gem. The tour was a great mix of history, pop culture and humor all told by a life long local. Highly recommend and would even do it again!!!

Vantigo Tours was honestly the coolest way I could have ever imagined to explore San Francisco. Cruising around the city in a classic Volkswagen bus just hits different. It's not your typical tour--you're not stuck behind glass or packed into a big group. The city is right there around you, and everything feels more alive; almost cinematic. The whole experience was super easygoing and fun! We covered a lot without it ever feeling rushed, and there were plenty of chances to stop, take photos, and just enjoy where we were. Some of our favorite moments were actually the unexpected spots we never would've found on our own, like the beautiful, yet uncrowded overlook on Telegraph Hill. Everything felt really natural--nothing scripted or forced. Just a great mix of interesting stories, local insight, and a lot of laughs along the way. Chad made the tour phenomenal. He brought brought great energy and enthusiasm to the experience, which made it even more enjoyable without ever feeling over the top. And the bus itself is half the experience! It's such a vibe--people smiling, waving, even taking pictures as you drive by. It adds this extra layer of fun you just don't get anywhere else. By the end, it felt like we experienced San Francisco in a way you can't do anywhere else. So if you're even thinking about it, just book it. Totally worth it!! -Mark & Gina, Kansas, USA.

This was such a wonderful tour and great way to get oriented with all the different neighborhoods in San Francisco. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and funny. Everything went off great and because of the small size of the van and tour it was easy to get to places. Highly recommend this tour.

I need an option for more stars! This was, by far, our favorite activity of our visit! Chad is so personable, and Lily (our VW bus) is a champ! Chad took us to sights we would never have seen otherwise. He had great stories about the different areas, and gave us great recommendations for places to explore. The tour is worth every dime, I 100% recommend this tour.

Waiting for us patiently at the Painted Ladies. Never felt rushed. And as a solo traveler I appreciated him taking photos of us.

Made a last minute decision to book a tour with Vantigo while in San Francisco. Best decision and one of the highlights of my trip. I'd already walked all over the city, rode Muni in all forms, enjoying the city for the first time. But I wanted to have a local guide to get me up close to the main spots (GG Bridge) and out of way spots (Tank Hill) before I left town. Well Vantigo was great. Chad was informative but also fun!! I'd been having vertigo and was afraid of sitting in the back of a VW van on those streets and hills. The friendly fellow travelers said I could sit up front!! What a treat. A wonderful tour indeed. However, I now want to change careers, move to California and be a tour guide for Vantigo!! I first need to learn to drive a stick... thank you from Lisa C from KY

My hubby and I had an amazing city tour experience today. Like a local SF. The tour was amazing and Chad was a superb tour guide. We've learned a lot and had so much fun. Thanks Chad. To all, this is an amazing tour and a great way to know the city. Totally recommend it! You won't be disappointed. Happy touring!

I went on a private brewery tour for a work outing. My co-worker and I planned it. We emailed Mindy…read moreand she responded right away with questions on how to best customize our itinerary. We had some time constraints. She told us we were able to start and end the tour anytime we wanted. Once we answered all her questions she put together an itinerary for our group. The itinerary gave us details on what we would do during the tour. Details such as breweries we would visit, what time we would arrive at each stop, where we would have the facility tour, where we would eat food, pricing ETC. She also attached a sample menu because we wanted the package to include food. The food package included dinner. I thought we were going to have to pay more for dinner, but we didn't. She told me the food package included lunch, dinner or heavy appetizers. Same price. I also had some questions and requests for her. She answered all my questions, adjusted the itinerary a bit and met all of our needs. She recommended the breweries we went to, however she told me we were able to pick. But I needed recommendations. Day of the tour we were picked up at the office. We had a tour guide (Jon) and a driver. I don't remember the driver's name but he was great. Our tour guide was amazing. He was friendly, super knowledgeable, very, very hospitable. He made sure everyone had everything they needed every step of the tour. The food came out super quick, everyone's orders were correct! (We had a rather large group of 40.) The food was delicious. The beer was tastings. It was really fun trying all the different styles. Jon would bring us out the beer and describe it to us. He also gave us tasting tips, tasting 101. I learned a lot. AND drank a lot. Those little tasters really add up. I wasn't always able to finish them. The facility tour was given to us by Jon. It was about 15/20 minutes. He really explained the process in a way we could understand. (My group didn't know much about making beer.) Jon is also a pretty funny guy so the tour was entertaining. The three breweries we went to were Drakes Barrel House, Ale Industries and Faction. All three stops were very different. Drakes whole space was filled with barrels aging beer. Kinda looked like a wine tasting room. I loved the ambience. Ale Industries had a cool small business hipster vibe. And Faction had a huge out door space with a view of the city! It had corn hole, and giant Jenga. It was such a fun trip. Everyone loved it. We will definitely use Bay Area Brewery Tours again.

We loved the tour, the breweries and the driver/tour guide Mindy. Very friendly and knowledgable about the places she takes you on the tour. But best of all my husband wanted me to mention there is NO HIGH PRESSURE SALES like you would experience on a wine tour. The tastings at each stop served by friendly people and questions were answered on the spot. The lunch we had was really good food and there was a good selection to choose from on the menu you are presented when you board the tour bus. All in all, it was fabulous, relaxing, met a lot of great people on the public tour with us and a good way to enjoy beer tasting without the driving. GREAT JOB MINDY!

My tour guide was fantastic: friendly, knowledgeable, and full of fun facts, local tips, and recommendations that made the experience even better. I also loved that the group was small (about 8 people in the van), which made it easy to ask questions and actually see everything without feeling crowded. The three photo stops are short, but they're at excellent viewpoints and perfect for getting some Instagram-worthy pictures. As a solo traveler, I honestly can't recommend this tour enough. You get an incredible amount of value for the price, and it's a great way to get your bearings before exploring the city on your own. I'd recommend keeping notes of the places and recommendations your guide mentions so you can revisit them later. One thing that really stood out was the customer service. My original booking didn't meet the minimum group size, so I was moved to a different tour. Unfortunately, that caused me to arrive late, but the guide was incredibly gracious and made me feel welcome without any hassle. Whether you're traveling solo, with a partner, or as a family, I'd absolutely recommend this tour. It's one of the best ways to kick off a trip to San Francisco.

I researched a…read morebunch of options and even considered one of the hop-on, hop-off buses, but then I came across the Painted Ladies Tour. I watched several videos, read reviews, and quickly realized this was a completely different kind of tour. The tour takes place in a vintage VW van that looks like something straight out of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine. Honestly, even the vehicle itself makes the experience fun! It's also a much more intimate experience than a large bus tour, which was exactly what I was looking for. It ended up being one of our absolute favorite things we did in San Francisco. Our guide, Clay, met us just a couple of blocks from our hotel, which was another huge bonus. We didn't have to take any additional public transportation to get to the tour. It was my daughter and me, another mother and daughter, and their aunt, so we had a really small group. Clay made sure we rotated seats throughout the tour so everyone got a different perspective and everyone had a chance to sit up front for the best views. One of the first things Clay did was explain what actually makes a "Painted Lady" a Painted Lady. We got to see so many examples throughout the city, and one of our favorites was the Four Seasons. It was really interesting learning the history behind the homes rather than just driving past them and taking pictures. We drove through the Haight-Ashbury area, where Clay explained how housing costs and the population have changed over the years. We even saw the iconic home with the legs sticking out of one of the windows, which is a pretty funny representation of just how packed some of the homes became. We also got to see the former homes of Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. Being able to see those places in person and hear the history behind them was really cool. Our first stop where we actually got out of the van was Alamo Square Park, where the iconic Full House opening scene was filmed. This was probably the number one thing my daughter wanted to see, so she was thrilled! We got out, took pictures, and Clay was kind enough to take pictures of both of us together so neither of us had to be the person left out of the photos. Next, we drove by the house from Mrs. Doubtfire. Clay actually happened to see them filming part of the movie when he was younger, which made the stop even more interesting. Then came another major highlight for my daughter--we got to see the school from The Princess Diaries! From there, we headed to the Palace of Fine Arts, where we learned about its connection to the World's Fair. We stopped to take pictures, and I have to mention one of my favorite random moments of the entire tour: seeing a Golden Retriever riding in a convertible, absolutely living his best life. It was one of those completely unexpected San Francisco moments that made the day even better. Since we were already in the area, we also stopped to take pictures with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. But the absolute highlight of the tour came next. Clay took us to Lombard Street, turned the music way up, blasted "Born to Be Wild," and let us cruise down the famous winding street with the windows down. We were all singing along, laughing, and taking in the experience. It was honestly one of the most iconic and memorable moments of our entire San Francisco trip. The tour was also perfectly timed. We spent the morning seeing so much of the city, but we were finished early enough to walk back to our hotel, have some downtime, and regroup before lunch. We never felt rushed, but we also didn't lose an entire day to the tour. I would absolutely recommend the Painted Ladies Tour to anyone visiting San Francisco. It's such a fun and personal way to see the city and learn about its history. Instead of sitting on a huge bus with dozens of other people, you're in a small group, getting to interact with your guide and really experience the city. And Clay was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, personable, and made the history fun for both the adults and the kids in our group. He took pictures for us, made sure everyone got a chance to experience the best seats, and really made the entire morning feel special. If you're looking for something more personal than a traditional sightseeing bus, I can't recommend this tour enough. Between the Mystery Machine-style van, the history, the movie locations, the Golden Gate Bridge, and singing "Born to Be Wild" down Lombard Street, this was easily one of our favorite memories from San Francisco.

Last year, we signed up for our first combo tour: Alcatraz + Haight walking tour. Due to the 2018 fires, our SF trip was severely affected, including the cancellation of the Alcatraz portion. The walking tour was still made available at our own risk given the horrible air quality, but SF on Tap staff were very flexible, refunded our Alcatraz portion, and still conducted a great walking tour led by Lina. The history we learned, the beer knowledge, and the breweries we visited was fantastic. By the end of the tour, our little group was happy, tipsy, and chatty. It was a great first experience! So this year, we went back to San Francisco and did the Alcatraz + Fisherman's Wharf walking tour. Weather was fantastic this time, and the process for getting our tickets plus the actual day of activites was seamless. Prepare for a long day of walking if you do the combo tour. Dress comfortably and wear very comfy shoes. We did the Alcatraz audio tour, which helps you cover the main portions of the site, but there is definitely more to explore, so don't anticipate being able to do it all when you have to be back on shore with time to spare for lunch plus arriving for the 2pm beer tour. So....plan your morning accordingly. After Alcatraz, we had lunch at Boudin at Pier 39 then took a 5min Lyft ride to Ghirardelli Square for the start of our Fisherman's Wharf beer tour. Our guide was Dylan. Dylan did a great job and took us on quite an adventure through Fisherman's Wharf and Little Italy area. Although the beers on this particular tour were not my favorite (except for the barley wine and sour at the end!), I appreciated deepening my knowledge of the neighborhood and of course....brewing! I also love the intimate nature of the tour, like when we get to the breweries / pubs, and there is already dedicated space for us to sit, enjoy, learn, and drink! Dylan did his best to personalize our beer options to our tastes, so that was much appreciated. At the end of the tour, Dylan provided some fantastic dinner recommendations, since the tours end by 6pm. Trust me, you will be hungry! Both Lina and Dylan provided us with memorable craft beer experiences. My boyfriend and I look forward to going 3 for 3 and doing the SoMA walking tour next year! We are true SF on Tap fans!! You won't regret booking with SF on Tap, especially if you want a personalized craft beer experience and want to learn about the city's rich history and the details of brewing.
