I had heard about Lefty's for a while, and since I happened to be in the area, I was excited to finally give it a try. Unfortunately, the shrimp St. Paul fell short for me. It was almost $10, and I only remember seeing one, maybe two, shrimp. The coating was also much thicker than I expected. Instead of tasting the egg, the outside reminded me more of a heavy flour-based batter, and it overpowered the sandwich. On top of that, the sandwich wasn't hot when I received it. The wait was also close to 20 minutes. While I was sitting there, someone brought crab chips out for customers who were dining in. When I asked about them, I was told they were only for dine-in customers. I understand that may be their policy, but since I was sitting there waiting quite a while for my order, it would have been a nice gesture. I'm still glad I stopped in, looked around, and finally tried a place I had heard so much about. Been seeing from good reviews of Lefty's so I figured I would give them a try. Ordered the voodoo fried rice, spicy, and a shrimp St. Paul. Have to say I was really disappointed in the overall quality of the food. The rice was spicy like I asked but after that it fell flat. Rice was mushy, and didn't have a lot of meat in it. St. Paul, while large in size didn't have much taste to it. It tasted almost like it had some type of filler in it. Very weird. I really wanted to like this place as it offered some different options for rice, I.e. spicy. But after this time, I can't recommend it. I'll give it another try just to see if they were having an off day. Hopefully it gets better read more

When I arrived to St. Louis this was the first place I knew I had to try. I actually called a week prior to verify some information about the food. The lady I talked to was so helpful and had amazing customer service. So when I get there I took an uber straight to Lefty's. When you pull up they have a very amazing mural outside and it was a few people inside.When we walked in we were greeted and I can say the amazing customer service continued. I've heard that there was a big difference in St. Louis Fried Rice so I had to try it. I ordered Voodoo Fried Rice with gravy, Lobster Rangoon, Crab Rangoon and Chicken St. Paul. The Voodoo Fried Rice was good and I like the protiens that came in it. I wasn't a fan of the gravy. It didn't give me any difference from my favorite Chinese place in Chicago.I love me some Crab Rangoon so anywhere I go I have to try it and this one didn't disappoint. I saw they had Lobster Rangoon and it was a must try and I can say it was very good. The Chicken St. Paul was what I was most excited to try. I get egg foo yung most times at my favorite Chinese place so when I saw it was on a sandwich I was very intrigued. I was very scared I wouldn't like it but I was very surprised that I enjoyed it and ate most of it. Price Range was average. When I'm back in St. Louis I'll be back! read more

I'm working in St.Louis this week and wanted to try something local. I learned about the St. Paul sandwich. It's egg foo yong on white bread with mayo pickles and lettuce. When I did my google search for the best one in town Lefty's was at the top of the list. They mastered Urban Eats with this masterpiece sandwich. I loved it!!! So damn good and really well made! The place is cool, like an old time pub with a cool back wall menu. The sweet lady behind the counter was so pleasant and organized she was busy but handled it with a cool flow with patients and efficiency. The service was top shelf, I ordered the St. Paul and dragon wing combo with voodoo rice. This dish is their trademark. It's Cajun fried rice done so good you have to get some. This was some of the best rice I've ever had. I like how the grains were individual and not clumped together. It was a good grain of rice too. The St. Paul was good, not my fav, but worth ordering again. The orange chicken and rice pair well together. The chicken cut/quality tasted like pre bought frozen chicken, not fresh cute chicken breast. Flavor was good and had noticeable orange zest. Overall 3.5/5. Give it a try. read more

Lefty's is a must try! I have a number of things on the menu I'd still like a shot at. The service was great. Food was good, accurate, hot, and it was presented extremely well. Came for the rice, stayed for the Vess and wings. Gotta try a St. Paul on my next visit. Simple decor, there was a patio as well I believe, we are inside though. I decided to try this restaurant because I'd heard a mix of good and bad reviews and wanted to see for myself. The restaurant was clean inside and out, with plenty of parking and enough seating to accommodate larger groups. The menu and drink selection have a nostalgic, old-school feel, which I enjoyed. I ordered the orange chicken bowl. The price was fair, but I personally felt the portion size was a bit small. A kind gesture from the store manager Damon, gave a complimentary Vess soda, which I appreciated. Overall, the food was tasty, and the quality was solid. I have mixed feelings about Lefty's Fried Rice. The fried rice is really good -- packed with flavor and definitely the highlight of the meal. That part is a solid hit. The chicken, though, was a letdown. It was bland and didn't have the same quality or seasoning as the rice, which took away from the overall experience. If you're ordering here, I'd say go for the rice and maybe try a different protein. Hopefully the chicken improves because the base of the food is already strong. read more

The chicken wings which I ordered crispy, were over seasoned with cumin I believe and they were also very salty. I wanted to try Lefty's Fried Rice. This is a Black owned restaurant. There were tablecloth on the tables. They had beautiful murals on the walls. This place is a gem. The portion sizes are plentiful. The fried rice is very good. The chicken and broccoli doesn't remind me of Chinese takeout. But it is good. The same think can be said for their lomein. The dragon wings were okay. I've had better. I noticed the couple sitting near me had the egg fu young. The portion was huge and looked amazing. They also had hot braised and voodoo fried rice. I can't remember the last time I had Fried Rice and wings! Lefty's lived up to the memory! Rice was definitely St. Louis style..meaning eggs and onions only. You'll have to add veggies if that's what you want. I added bean sprouts and Loved! Counter style ordering and mainly to go but very nice option if you choose to dine in. I'm a huge supporter of Black-owned businesses BUT anyone who has ever recommended Lefty's Fried Rice should never be allowed to review anything, ever! It was disgusting! I called them before posting on Yelp but they don't answer their phone. How do you mess up Crab Rangoon?!? The wrapper was older than Methuselah! There was no crab or rangoon. All four of them (tried one, spit it out) couldn't fill one regular crab rangoon! The Hot Braised Sauce was horrible! I can't imagine this sauce on anything served to people. Broccoli?!? This tasted like the very back of the freezer! The Salmon was fishy in the worst possible way. It smelled so terrible I had to take it to the dumpster! To mess up seafood on Good Friday in the 314 is truly a sin. Just one bite of the Crab Rangoon and one bite of Salmon, Rice and Broccoli has me praying I don't have food poisoning! We've had Lefty's at a friend's house previously, and my husband has been obsessed with wanting to get it on our own. It's definitely our spot for Chinese food now, we won't go anywhere else. I will warn you that they have a pretty long wait, which is a good sign it's made fresh, but be prepared. Highly recommend putting in an online order so you know the right timing! Their menu was actually larger than we thought. We ended up with their specialty fried rice and the chicken fried rice - both super flavorful and delicious. My husband loved their wings, and I enjoyed their crab Rangoon and egg rolls. Everything was fantastic. I ordered lefty's via uber eats on labor day (thank you for being open on a holiday!!) and it was quite good! I ordered. the dragon wings with a sriracha and ranch drizzle but they didn't arrive with the drizzle on them, however, were really spicy and baked well-great flavor. I also got the special fried rice in a big box, rice had great flavor but. I did expect the meat inside (chicken, beef, shrimp etc) to have been seasoned as well and it wasn't. The rice was still good with red pepper and soy sauce. Also had the crab rangoon which was good, pretty standard filling and taste, along with an egg roll. The shrimp po boy was really good and very fresh, likely my fav dish. Overall, good food, price point is a bit high but I would definitely try it again! read more

So I visited this Chinese restaurant cause I had been seeing all of the food reviews on line. I ordered a fried chicken combination plate wit ham added, ham St.Paul with cheese, & 2pork egg rolls. The rice was mid nothing of high value like expressed in the videos I been seeing; the green onion was not chopped adequately had large pieces and small pieces which threw off the taste & consistency, the chicken I was upset cause they sauced it for me when I wanted it plain and ordered my sauce on the side. The egg rolls was mediocre definitely could have been stuffed a little bit more @ least with the cabbage mix. The crab Rangoon that came with the fried chicken combination plate was still soaked with grease and wrapped with spring roll crust. The only thing I enjoyed was the Ham St. Paul if they didn't put pickles on there like I requested. Also of note, if you order on their website do not bother putting in a specific time. They do not pay attention to that. I requested a 6:30pm time, but the food was made at 5:51pm. So by the time I made it there from my workout, the food had been sitting there for nearly and hour and was cold. HOWEVER, the manager remade my order, so no problem for me, I just want to inform others not to preorder unless you're picking it up right away. It is a restaurant, so you may grab a table and eat there. Various bottled/canned drinks available in their cold case. I got a chance to try Lefty's today at the Wash U graduation because they were a food vendor. Let me tell you my colleague and I got back to the office and was googling how far this place is away. Lol Seriously, their table at the graduation was crowded, and when we heard they were present on campus we ran to go grab us some grub. The food was amazing! You don't even need any condiments like soy sauce or sweet and sour because that's how well-cooked it is. I 've called several times during lunchtime hours during the week and was told they were closed. Good rice but odd operating hours. Not of my liking! Third or fourth time we've tried LefTy's. The 1st was when they opened and it was ok, better then versus now. Now they are more geared towards chop suey. The crab ragoon were "greasy" and they are the "sweet" kind. You can add only one extra item to the box of rice (well at least that is what we were told). The St. Paul tasted chalky and was runny.
