Management needs to refund over $280.00. A front line agent named "Nicole"states that their track floor (fake wood strips) were damaged. I showed a very kind, tall African American man who is part of their Maintenance Team the entire apartment and asked about the floor which had light marks of no consequence. During my final months in the apartment, I had to check under the bed and behind bedroom furniture in addition to stuffing towels under the bedroom door after a 3 foot-long black gardner snake slithered up my bathroom counter to the mirror. Nicole's rebuttal was to allege that after 18 complaints of noise from stereos, the pool and someone smoking marijuana that: 1. 'No other tenant reported the marijuana smoke. 2. 'There is no Maintenance man named 'Sam' at the apartments. Both arguments are irrelevant. The snake incident alone warranted a full refund of my deposit. I will pursue this matter vigorously. Read the remaining complaints herewith. This is an apartment complex to avoid until they reconfigure their attitudes backed by some degree of reasonable intelligence. I was scheduled for a virtual tour today at 11am, and about 45 mins before- I got an email asking for "recent pay stubs and my Drivers License" before the tour could commence. Now, the ID I could understand if I was in person, but not for a FaceTime tour on my iPhone. I have toured 4 other properties this week virtually, and none of them have asked for anything beyond basic information. I do think this is a bit extreme considering I had not agreed on anything contractual beyond just looking at available units. I don't know where my personal pay stub and identification would be stored or viewed by whom and it's a bit intrusive to say the least, so I opted for another apartment, and decided to not do business with GCI. read more

I lived here for 2.5 years and all I can say is....prospective renter beware! Property management will attempt to lure you in with promises of newly renovated units and a soon to be renovated pool/outdoor area. Do not be fooled! Let the out-of-service fountain at the front entrance be your hint to RUN from this property, for it is all downhill from there. For the record, the fountain has been broken well over two years and becomes a cesspool for vermin in the warmer months. If you are tempted by the pretty cosmetic renovations with new stainless appliances, don't forget that just beneath the drywall, the old polybutylene piping is literally rotting away and it is only a matter of time before you have flooding issues. Aside from the structural issues, this property is poorly maintained overall. Many of the amenities are in disrepair. Last summer, residents had use of the pool for MAYBE 3 weeks. The remainder of the summer, the pool was closed with the water going from green to black. Management refused to drain the pool and allowed it to sit like a swamp for weeks on end. Several of the machines at the gym are broken or in need of service and the equipment cleaning wipes are frequently empty, but management ignores maintenance requests. The dog park gate has been broken for months and the park is in desperate need of fresh wood chips. Trash often piles up in front of the dumpster, at the pet waste stations, and by the recycling area and is left for days on end. The contractors who are renovating the apartment units leave trash and debris everywhere, including nails and screws that can puncture your tires. The front entrance and the clubhouse may look nice (aside from the broken fountain), but if you visit the buildings at the back of the property, it's clear that no landscaping has been done. There are overgrown or dead shrubs, huge fallen branches, and bad tenants who leave their dog's poop to rot under the sun. Believe it or not, I was actually considering staying at this property for another year. However, my last straw was when I received my lease renewal notice. The "most affordable" option available to me was a rent increase of $280 more per month. I met with a district manager to express my concern over this asinine increase and she did not offer any help or alternative option. In fact she basically told me that even if I decided to resign my lease for one more year, I would be pushed out of my unit for renovations. The lead maintenance guys (Dwayne and Joseph) are awesome and they do the best they can with a short staff / high turnaround. I believe all of this is a management problem. Management ignores and/or gaslights residents when they voice their concerns or request work orders for maintenance. In my 2.5 years of living at this complex, I rarely ever saw management out and about unless they were touring a prospective resident. How on earth can you effectively manage a property if you don't even leave the front office?! I believe I was a good resident, always paid my rent on time, followed property rules, and kept my unit and surrounding area tidy (including picking up my dog poop and disposing of it properly). Time and again, GCI made it very clear that they only care about profits, they do not care about residents. After my experience here, I would never lease a GCI owned property again and I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

The management by GCI and their staff is a joke. This place is the perfect example of perfume/lipstick on a pig, it's a dump. Constant issues with mold, noisy neighbors, backed up sewer lines, cockroaches, constant construction on a pool that have never actually seen usable and trash piled outside the dumpster because it is broken half the time. People can tolerate a lot but where GCI really Screws up is when they start to play games when it comes to addressing the refund of security deposit after moving out. BEWARE GCI WILL TRY TO SCREW WITH YOU WHEN IT COMES TO THIS! Crazy thing is that the reason for leaving this place was not due to the many reasons mentioned but only the mold! Due to doctors recommendation to vacate, which now are 100% happy advice was listened to because the headaches and overall health have now gotten back to normal now from being in a clean living space. It really is comical that they will have a person attempt to address their huge PR issues with responses like "I'm sorry for your experience and we will try to make it better!" Blah blah blah...they don't give a S$#t about you or anyone else as long as they are making money for their shareholders. This is a tough place to live if you work at night! I like my apartment and appreciate the fact that our landscaping company keeps the grounds well trimmed and tended ( with the notable exception of clearing broken glass from the parking lot). However the noise pollution here is awful! I'm often awakened by the roar of leaf blowers, lawn mowers, and trimmers. This week it was all day Monday, Tuesday, and on Wednesday it was trimming hedges and then spending hours blowing the clippings in areas that they just blew one or two days ago! It would be nice if they could complete these tasks all in one day because there is no sleeping here (even though I use earplugs) or enjoying my balcony or open windows on beautiful Spring days. On top of that, I've had a squirrel in my attic for weeks now. The acoustics here are such that one squirrel sounds like a herd of cattle that no one could sleep through. He gets going pretty early. I am exhausted! I have spoken to the office three times now regarding this problem and, while they were very pleasant, there has been no resolution. This not only disturbs me but my pets also who become agitated. I feel like a hostage in my own home. I was told today (nicely) that the maintenance crews' focus is on air conditioner repair and indicated that my problem is not a priority. I understand about the air but it's been weeks now and how long would it take to call animal control? We pay over $1500 a month to live in such a stressful environment. The previous office manager (who was awful) has recently been replaced. I am hopeful this results in an all around improvement here. read more

I lived in Legacy Ballantyne for two years. The first year, I lived in a townhouse centrally located on the property. During that time, I seen five (yes I counted them) palmetto bugs aka water bugs aka roaches in my town house. I just figured they got in from the outside somehow. One day I was approached at the mailbox by a woman that lived in an apartment on the other side. She asked if there were roaches in my places because she was seeing them everyday in her apartment. I really didn't know what to think because I didn't have that problem. When it came time for my lease to expire, I decided to move into an apartment to save some money. This apartment was located on the backside near the wooded area. I seen five roaches on move in day! I chalked it up to the place sitting empty. Mistake...let's just say that I stopped counting the first week. I made sure that the drains remained closed. At one point I had the exterminator coming weekly. One night I seen a roach go into the drain hole at the top of the sink. Then I started taping up every place I thought that a roach might fit! Fast forward months of speaking to the office and just being told that it is the area. That's possible, I mean I did open the front door one night and one ran in... As soon as the lease break fee got down to a more reasonable amount, I went ahead and broke my lease. After taping up everything and being very careful not to let roaches in from the outside. I could not figure out how they were still getting in and I didn't want to live with roommates that weren't paying rent! I did eventually find out that roaches were coming from under the toilet! A family moved in a little after me because they had seen so many roaches in their apartment on the other side. All I could say was...sorry they beat you to this side...Some of the other issues: Noise- the family upstairs had me thinking that I lived in a war zone. They jumped and stomped from 4am to 10pm. That showed me how cheaply the apartment was made. I would have to take a broom and push the recess lighting fixtures back in. The water would shake in my cups when the kids really got going. Maintenance- there was a lot of turn over in maintenance when I lived there. Depending on the issue it was normal to wait several weeks for someone to come and take the first look at the issue. Parking- get a garage. Office staff- there was a little turn over. I found it annoying that they really didn't see the pest issue as a problem. Sure they would put you on the list for the exterminator BUT shouldn't someone look into why the bugs keep moving in. Vandalism: I believe its done by the kids and they're slings shots. Garage windows broken. The front window to the clubhouse house was broken and remain that way for months. Oh!!! I almost forgot. Brown water! There was crayon brown water in the apartment when I moved in. They came and flushed the hot water tank. It remained clear for about a month but gradually went back brown. The second maintenance guy took a look and said that it couldn't be fixed, the tank was the original and needed to be replaced. He said to put in a ticket for a new tank and let them know that he said so. Well, they sent him back out to flush it again... Not sure if he did, I wasn't home that time. This second flush did nothing. So then I had to put in another request to finally get a new tank. Months of dealing with a water issue that could have been resolved before I moved in. In the meantime, the office staff let me know that this brown water was not harmful to me...... The good: the apartments are reasonably priced. I'm sure management will refute my claims. I am in no way trying to slander the complex. I am speaking of my experience. read more

Legacy Apartments at Ballentyne (formerly known as Crestmont Apartments http://www.yelp.com/biz/crestmont-at-ballantyne-charlotte) is the worst apartment complex I have ever lived at. Management is cold and rude. They have no customer service skills and they care very little about you or your problems. They are unscrupulous changing dates on our contract where it was obvious it was not something we approved of by the lack of initials by the white out they used. Maintenance 1. Our children got some water on the floor from a bath (upstairs) and it leaked into our kitchen (downstairs) leaving an ugly stain. Maintenance came in to "fix" this problem by spraying paint over the stain getting paint all over the kitchen appliances and some of our kitchen items, my wife went in to complain to management and the guy was there so she just told him, he came in the next week and did the same thing. While doing it he got paint permanently on a tea pot that I bought my wife for our anniversary. 2. The toilets are always clogging. This is no exaggeration... they have to be plunged every other time they are used. The bathtub clogs easy too. 3. When we moved in we were told that the seal on the windows would be fixed... a year later still not done 4. The bathroom drawer went unfixed for a month from the time we moved in Pests 1. When my wife said something about the 2 to 3 millipedes she finds crawling around the apartment daily she was told that the apartment isn't spraying for pests this month or something to that extent. 2. Since we have moved there we have had roaches, black widows, frogs, and a lizard in the apartment. Oh, and a copper head slithered over my mother-in-law's foot on the front porch 3. There is a huge copper head problem, Im told that they are aware that there is a bad copper head infestation. Energy Theft 1. Yes, that's a real thing. I didn't know it until it happened to us but here is the low-down: My wife went out the front door at about noon one day and found that he fountain on the front porch had been unplugged. In the outlet was an orange extension cord leading to the grounds keeper truck. As she walked to look in the open door of the truck she passed the grounds keepers who were (as usual) taking a siesta on the grass in front of our apartment. When she looked in the truck she found the extension cord led to a microwave. My wife did not feel comfortable waking the men from their nap on the lawn and wasn't sure if they spoke English so she walked to the front office who blew her off saying "Oh yeah, its their lunch time." They spoke to her without even looking up at her. They said, "We will take care of it." Like it was no big deal and went about working as if they were done with her. Later while on the back porch she heard them talking trash about her in front of the office. They gossip with each other and tenants a lot. "Violations of contract" accusations 1. Was three days late paying a utility bill and got a threat on my door saying they could now terminate our lease. 2. I had some body damage to my car from a wreck and a note was left on my car saying that I was in violation of the contract for having an "inoperable" car. My wife went in to tell them that the car was not inoperable and they proceeded to argue with her and started asking if the registration was up to date which had nothing to do with the notice on my car. Registration was up to date btw. Washer/Dryer 1. Our washer machine was broken. Management's solution to this problem for 2 months was give us a key to the model home to do our laundry which would have been some kind of solution had the locks not been changed to the model home. But still we got the town home knowing that a washer and dryer came with it and it went unfixed far too long. Pool 1. Nasty film of dirt leaves and grease floating at the surface of the pool. Club House 1. Worst Clubhouse ever. It's not a club house. There is nothing to do there except sit on the sofa. It's an office for management folks. It's not something you could ever host a party at or would find any reason to go to. Gym 1. We purposely got an apartment with a gym and it was closed for remodeling for half of our first 6 month lease 2. The treadmills sound and shake like they are about to break and the channels don't work on the tv part 3. The AC is turned to 62 in the gym every time we go Quality of housing 1. There is mismatched paint 2. Shelf top of fireplace turned black after use 3. AC will leak on your furniture 4. Poor condition of apartment exterior 5. I'm not sure what others are complaining about this complex. It's located in a very nice area within Ballantyne and lot of shopping areas nearby and very close to i485. This place for me is the best place I've moved to from other two locations I've lived in. Besides the loud kids that are not controlled by their parents is the only problem I have of this place. I have been at Legacy for over 2 years. They do a good job of taking care of the facilities and landscaping. The apartments have been refurbished with granite and hardwood vinyl flooring. They are also replacing all of the HVAC systems at this time. I have never had a problem with the maintenance crew, they are helpful and very friendly. I can't speak to the items pointed out by others, but currently they have taken good care of me. read more

I was being harassed and stalked. I contacted the leasing office to address my concerns about moving units or moving out the complex, I was told since my stalker didn't live there and wasn't on the lease that it didn't qualify as domestic violence incident and they can not assist me with leaving my unit. I was told they could change my locks, and that they knew of an alarm company to install alarms. they said if I was worried about my stalker noticing my car I can purchase a garage. They have been extremely unhelp and I'm worried about my safety. They only cared about me paying monthly after I break my lease. I tried calling corporate and they never answer the phone.. Old and dilapidated, non-supporting front office staff. You need to know the following before you sign-in at this property. - Property is quite old and dilapidated. Electrical in the unit is problematic - Insensible 4 months lease breakage. Front office staff mislead you to believe it's 2 months - but when you really get into the situation, they'll try to leach you out to pay 4 months rent. Play ignorance to the fact that they told you that only '2 months lease breakage' when you signed in. Involve lawyers immediately if you get into this kind of situation - Very mischievous front staff, due to low sign-ins they'll try to mislead you and misinform till you sign-in and later turnout very un-supportive and arrogant - Since units are old and legacy electrical in the unit, utility bills run very high (Electrical bill alone could reach $350) and on top of this mandatory valet trash fee and Water. - Proximity to high way and easy access leads to highly crime prone. There were very serious incidents this month including a Car Jack attempt and big shoot out. No security persons in the property at all. This apartment complex is a joke for what you pay. Broken garage Windows, sky high power bills, and a TWC dead zone for Internet. That's unfortunately not all. Kids running around with disregard for people's property (my vehicle has been hit several times by soccer balls and footballs) since the kids play in the streets and not the green area. People letting there dogs off leash and management states "there is little we can do). My dog has been attacked twice while on property. Avoid this place like the plague! read more

I give this Residential company 1 stars only because of the management team on site at Legacy Ballantyne Apartments. They do the best they can with the limitation that they must do business under. At GCI Residential you are only a number to be entered into a computer that will determine your revenue potential. Renter beware. Sign the rental agreement with the understanding that you are only revenue. The fact that you may pay your rent on time, not complain, help with the betterment of the community WITH NOT be taken into account come renew time. But rather the location of the apartment you have been renting, and the potential to get more revenue should you move out. But should you stay even better you will have the owner of paying much more than the person just singing there lease. Potential is the gold here. Even if apartment stays on the market for a year, the potential of what they could get for the rent will the determining factor in the pricing. The same rule goes for lease renewals. read more

WORST PLACE EVER!!! Don't move there!!! Maintenance walks in whenever they want and tried to request me as a friend on LinkedIn, very inappropriate and unprofessional. I was walked in on TWO times. I had to get a hotel lock to keep them out. No notice, then when you complain, they make you wait weeks to get issues resolved in your apartment. Leasing staff is inept and obnoxious, with no personality. One tenant said his placed flooded from an overflowed tub in the upstairs apartment, they used his electricity to use the big fans to dry out the carpet, and they wouldn't pay the bill for the extra charges the electric company charged. Have had A/C broken for 2 days. Maintenance came only after I complained to the leasing office. He said he couldn't do anything because the unit was frozen and that he would come back later before he left. He never showed up and when I finally got a hold of him said he wasn't able to do anything after 830 at night, even though there is an emergency 24 hours number. This place does care that it's 83 degrees inside the house not and I have a 1 year old. Don't rent here!!! read more

Over priced Slum Lords. We had an "Updated" Townhouse and the place was falling apart from the beginning. Phone lines not connected at the wall connections, Sink in kitchen fell off twice because of improper installation and first attempt to repair it (bungee cords and wood blocks. Upstairs floors creaking and the stairs were starting to separate from the wall. They did not enforce community rules like skate boards, loud music, cleaning up after your pet (waste stations throughout the complex). Complex grounds not kept up, looks good from the front but when you get to the back a different story. The dog park is wood chips over the tennis courts that they never removed the black top so numerous dogs had paw infections. read more
