As a vegan it can be a challenge to go into a specialty chocolate shop and purchase high quality vegan goodness. however I noticed Legacy chocolates on my yelp list and had to stop in before my trip to the airport, so far I have not been disappointed. I purchased 6 packages of 68% dark chocolate bark coconut, expresso, walnut, plain, crasin and almond along with various Truffles for my Dad. Thus far I have eaten several pieces of the expresso chocolate and the flavor was very balanced without any bitterness. I am extremely pleased with my purchases. Oh the nostalgia I had walking in here was amazing! Prior to COVID, this was a regular stop for me working downtown Saint Paul and since the shut down and remote work - I haven't been here in 3 years. I am very pleased to see it is still in business as many of the other shops nearby didn't make it. Legacy Chocolates has always been a polished establishment and still is. The staff wear white button up tops and greet every customer with a smile. Located within the skyway, there are various windows of the shop where one can see staff pouring, mixing and displaying chocolate which is a sight to see in itself. They offer varying cocoa percentages, a combo of iced / hot caffeinated drinks and teas and various gift items like tea tins, zip ups and ornaments. First, the customer service is phenomenal. I called in 15 minutes before close and the lady on the phone was kind of enough to help me decide what chocolates would suit my tastes. She packed a box of twelve truffles for me, all personalized to my preferences, and they were phenomenal. The truffles were smooth, creamy, and had a wonderful snap. If you are in St. Paul downtown, Legacy serves up an awesome cup of pour over coffee. The chocolates are decadent, albeit a bit pricey. I come here multiple times a week and have to make a trek, but the coffee is just that good to walk 10 minutes to get there. Chris and his team are really friendly, and it has that feel of a neighborhood coffee shop but downtown. Be aware that there is no seating available, but it's a short one block walk to benches at the park along the river. read more

I was in town for a wedding and like to try local coffee shops whenever I travel. Legacy Chocolates had great reviews so I thought I'd give it a shot. It is inside a building so it took me a second to find it, but I'm glad I did. I had an iced coffee with an 85% espresso truffle. The coffee was AMAZING! It had such a great flavor to it. The truffle was also really great. The 85% cocoa matched perfectly with the inside of the truffle to help cut the sweet. It was my first time going in and the owners were super nice. They did a really good job of explaining the chocolate bark, coffee and truffles. We got a dozen truffles and they helped us understand the different cocoa levels and encouraged us to not be afraid to pick darker chocolates. Everything was super delicious and they were right, there's no need to be afraid of the 99% cocoa!! The truffles are soooo smooth and melt in your mouth. This place has a cult following for many people who work in downtown Saint Paul. The service is always so great! Even with the AM rush the staff is always so genuinely happy. The iced coffee is absolutely fantastic! The mochas (iced or hot) are some of the best around. The chias are good, but they do have a gritty texture to them so I am not totally sure about them personally but several of my coworkers absolutely love it. There's something just magical about this place. Between the delightfully cheery staff (NOT to be confused with fake) staff, the delectable treats (if I weren't on a perpetual diet, I would eat their brownies on the daily), and their coffee, the place has earned a very special spot in my heart. Legacy is known for their truffles. They range from 41% (milk chocolate) and goes up to 99% (the darkest chocolate). I'm a pansy and prefer the 41%, but my coworker cannot get enough of the 99%. Within each percentage of cocoa there are different varieties (if memory serves me right--it's an extensive spread of about 14!) I'm a certified addict of the 41% Himalayan Caramel. If you like Sea Salt Caramels...you won't be disappointed. Also, none of their treats are not concocted with anything fake (i.e. high fructose corn syrup), so every small indulgence seems a little less naughty. The cream cheese brownies are to die for. I was running around my office cutting off sections of my brownie because I felt it was too good not to share the experience of tasting something so divine! They make fresh, from-scratched baked goods. Their chocolate truffles are hand-dipped in four cacao intensities (41%, 68%, 85%, and 99%). If you walk by the shop, you can actually see them making it. Since my first trip I've also tried a Mexican Brownie and a Cream Cheese Caramel Brownie and now I want ALL THE BROWNIES. The chocolate they're using in their concoctions is truly amazing. Discovered this place when staying at a hotel a few blocks away. Wish I had gone there the first day of my trip. I would have gone back every day! As it was, I visited 3 times over 6 days. The best chai I have ever tasted! Great desserts, coffee, and tea, much made right there using local ingredients. Staff is so helpful and knowledgeable. My one complaint is that I wish they were open longer hours, especially on weekends. But I guess everyone deserves some rest. Next time I am in St Paul, I am heading here. Let me first preface this by saying that I am not a coffee fan but the kind fellow at the counter swore that it was smooth and beyond satisfying. Me, never wanting to lose out on a good challenge, accepted his promise and purchased myself a white chocolate mocha. To accompany my chocolate, I also purchased two truffles; both 41% milk chocolate with one being caramel pecan and the other mint. The staff that assisted me was enthusiastic and confident in their product, handing me one whole truffle to taste. The flavor I sampled was their Himalayan Caramel truffle at 85% dark. Though my mood was particularly itching for milk chocolate, the dark practically curbed my chocolate craving. Appearance of Treats: 4/5 - Their chocolates, brownies, coffee and cakes were simple, delicate and appetizing. Cleanliness of Shop/Atmosphere: 5/5 - Bright atmosphere with everything shined to display their delectable goods. Chocolate: 3.5/5 - The chocolate is good and I would eat it if it were presented to me. All in all, the notes of their chocolates are well rounded but not the best I have had. *But* unlike many other chocolate shops, Legacy's is fair trade and hand-crafted on site. Plus, the truffles left me with a chocolate rush rather than the dreaded sugar rush. So much win. Coffee: 5/5 - My God, their coffee is prodigiously smooth! The aroma was heavenly, the flavor was evolving, it went down so smooth it was like taking gulps of godly tears of joy and the finish - oh, my gosh, the finish - to call it miraculously satisfying would be an understatement.
