I've heard good things about BJJ and especially about Legacy and its positive community. I signed up for a free (!) class and appreciated being able to book online with reminders and arrived on a weeknight evening to catch an adorable kids' class before the all levels class. They provide special clothing to go on top of your regular workout clothes (I wore a tank top and yoga leggings) and there's a changing area / bathroom towards the back. I'm an absolute newbie (so new that I wore my pants on backwards!) and everyone in my class - there were only 4 of us - was so friendly and patient with me. We started out with warm-ups, Michael taught up a couple moves that we practiced in pairs, and then we did a couple timed sessions before wrap-up. I'm 42 year old, and started training 2 years ago. Legacy has changed my life for the better in that time. I feel healthier, mentally stimulated and more socially engaged. Your classmates will choke you out and vise versa, but at the end of the day everyone is like a tight knit family from all ages and lots in life. The class schedule is accommodating those like myself who work late, by offering classes in the early morning and later at night. This is a great facility for young and old alike! They just opened up again after about a decade long hiatus in Pasadena. Our kids (boy 5yo and girl 8yo) have been going for about a month now and they love it! The confidence they are building is priceless. Started coming January 2023 for my 4-year old daughter who was lacking confidence. Has always been on the shorter side so would feel intimidated at school. My daughter joined Legacy Pasadena back in September 2022. She has done jiu-jitsu since she was 6 years old but we took a break due to the pandemic. At first, she was hesitant to resume training but all the Legacy coaches were so caring from the start. It has been a warm and safe atmosphere that has encouraged her, as a teen now, to participate in competitions, something that she wouldn't have considered in the past. I started bringing my 10 year old daughter late 2023, I consider her an introverted child whenever something new comes her way. She was very hesitant to participate in the free trial class, but just walking into this environment gave me a good vibe and sense that my daughter would be in good hands. I went to train after being out for more than a year due to an injury. The owner said that he would work around my injury. When it came to grappling he was yelling at me to stay calm but to not stop. I was tired and this white belt wanted to prove a point so being out of shape and injured I kept going.
