New flavor alert! Or maybe I simply didn't know it had existed for a while. On Sept 1, 2025, when I made a quick stop to get me a few savory hand pies at this Wash Park location of this legendary hand pie place with so much legacy, what I spotted in the showcase simply wasn't something ordinary. And it was none other than "Reuben!! They truly perfected the Reuben hand pie making. Inside of the flaky pie, it sure was Reuben with a noticeable amount of sauerkraut! There aren't many places where they make this type of hand pies (at least I don't know any others) but these guys are a true expert in that regard. I like all of their savory pies but this Reuben might rank at the top of the list. It's that good so if you are a Rueben fan, this is a must-get item. For sweet side, I did see the Ube pies (like I saw them in one of the newsletters I received from Legacy recently.) I behaved today though; I simply saved that sweet pie for my next occasion. Hopefully they are not available for limited time only. Please be there when I get there next time!! The store is as adorable as it always is. Clean and neatly organized. I consider Legacy Pie the best pie in the Denver metro area! The crust is delicious and flaky. My husband and I love the tart cherry hand pies, but we have many other favorites, such as the key lime pie, the French silk, apple, pumpkin, blueberry, and the chicken pot pie. Oh, forgot the mushroom pie! Today, I had an iced coffee with half & half, which was perfect, and I tried the egg and bacon hand pie. It was so good and very filling. I would consider us regulars at Legacy Pie's two locations. I love the look and feel of the Wash Park location, but I wish they had some seating. With such good coffee and breakfast items, it would be fun to go with friends or family. We always get our holiday pies at Wash Park because they have the best parking. The service has always been very friendly and accommodating. There is no better place for pie at this family-owned business with so much history. read more

Michigan is the home of the Montmorency cherry which has a delicious, firm, tart fruit--perfect for pies. "Great grandma" Katherine opened a roadside pie stand in 1929. Her children moved the pie company to Loveland in 1960 as Colorado Cherry Company. The next generation opened shops in Lyons and Estes Park. The great grandchildren expanded to Denver in 2020 as Legacy Pie Co. The original Montmorency cherry pie is still featured, although the menu has expanded to other fruits, cream, and savory pies plus cookies and scones. The pies come in Cutie (single serving), Mini (2-3 servings), and 10" sizes plus very generous hand pies. I'm a frequent flier at the original store on Tennyson Street, but I'd forgotten this location on Alameda Avenue had opened about a year ago until I saw the sign while visiting a neighboring business. This is a cute space with a large selection of the pies and other baked items. The bakery is in the back and everything is made fresh, from scratch. This business is also noted (in my mind) for delicious, bottled cherry juice. I noticed they have expanded this sideline to a number of varieties of cider. You can't beat the Montmorency cherry pie, in my view, but the many other offerings are also tasty. I do think these guys have a bit of a heavy hand with the crust--particularly on the fruit pies. The crust is well-made, but I'd prefer a bit thinner, lighter crust. Unlike Tennyson Street which offers drinks and has quite a bit of seating, this location is takeout only. This is a small shopping strip with only a few stores and a good-sized parking lot which is great since parking in the neighborhood is difficult. read more

My daughter took me for a lemon meringue pie on Mothers Day but at 11:30 am they were already out. So I chose a coconut cream mini pie instead. The graham cracker crust was too sweet and it had a lot of cinnamon that just didn't seem to go with coconut. However, the custard barely had flavor. It was flat tasting, had very little coconut, and honestly, if it weren't for the odd crust the pie would have no flavor at all, not even hints of vanilla. Very disappointed this time around. This spot just opened up on our way to school and we were excited for an after school snack. It is cute and clean on the inside but I was a little disappointed that there is no place to sit and share a pie! On to the pies- variety, flaky crust, savory or sweet- lots of options! If you are looking for a place to get your pie fix, Legacy Pie is it! Run to get their Wild Maine Blueberry Pie. No one ever uses Maine blueberries, and they are so much better in a pie than regular ones. We have done the take and bake twice and they turned out delicious, and are so easy to bake. We tried cherry last time and that was great too. You can do mini pies as well, but if you want a few days worth of dessert, go for the larger size. Staff is always friendly as well, and very accommodating. Looking forward to the next visit! read more

I picked up a take and bake chicken pot pie, cutie key lime pie, and a cutie apple crisp. The crust on the pot pie was delicious but we both agreed the shredded chicken opposed to cubed was an odd textural element and while it guaranteed chicken in every bite, we prefer some bites to be just filling and veggies. I got an email a few days ago indicating they had Palisade Peach pies. I went by today. The full size 10 inch pie is $35, but mini's were $14 each. I got the Palisade Peach and the Tart Cherry mini's. My housemate ate 1/2 of the cherry pie. It had lots of cherries. I also got a blueberry packed scone for Sunday morning. Service was quick. Pies come in different sizes including hand pies. Take out only. Limited parking. We shared the Mini Apple Caramel Crisp and the Mini Mixed Berry (each $11.50). A rich streusel topping covered the well spiced chunky apple filling. The mixed berry pie was chock full of berries in a sweet thick syrup. The pies' crusts did not get soggy when the pies were warmed up in the oven. Another day, we had the Take and Bake Chicken Pie (10 inch pie $27). Wow - you are in for a treat if you have only experienced grocery store frozen pot pies. Follow the baking instructions and you will be rewarded with a delicious pie - the well sealed pie did not leak while baking. As I understand it, the Denver operation (this one in Wash Park and another spot in Highlands/Northside) is the business of the younger generation of same family that still operates the Colorado Cherry Company up towards Estes. The products are fantastic - cherry pie, berry pie, apple pie, pecan pie, etc. Both large sizes as well as smaller mini versions. They also usually have all varieties available in frozen take and bake versions, as well as fresh-baked hand pies, both sweet and savory. Another specialty are their savory pot pies - chicken, bison, vegetarian, and a seasonal Thanksgiving pie. The shop also has a select array of other local artisan food products - coffee, ice cream, etc. Space is clean and airy, service is excellent, and they have an ample parking lot right on Alameda. This is not about the quality of the pie but about customer service....also recognize this as a first world problem but when you pay for something, you expect to get what you paid for. I ordered the 12 mini pies a week in advance which is a selection of 3 flavors. when I went to pick them up, I was given a box with eight mini pies and two blueberry hand pies and was told I would just have to cut them in half and that they taste exactly the same. They said the mini pies were a special otder so I was curious how they made 8 but not the other 4. I was using it for a birthday and sort of had a presentation all figured out that didn't include having chunks of pie with filling oozing all over on the plate.
