    Holiday pie line up
    Judy R.

I consider Legacy Pie the best pie in the Denver metro area! The crust is delicious and flaky. My husband and I love the tart cherry hand pies, but we have many other favorites, such as the key lime pie, the French silk, apple, pumpkin, blueberry, and the chicken pot pie. Oh, forgot the mushroom pie! Today, I had an iced coffee with half & half, which was perfect, and I tried the egg and bacon hand pie. It was so good and very filling. I would consider us regulars at Legacy Pie's two locations. I love the look and feel of the Wash Park location, but I wish they had some seating. With such good coffee and breakfast items, it would be fun to go with friends or family. We always get our holiday pies at Wash Park because they have the best parking. The service has always been very friendly and accommodating. There is no better place for pie at this family-owned business with so much history.

Michigan is the home of the Montmorency cherry which has a delicious, firm, tart fruit--perfect for pies. "Great grandma" Katherine opened a roadside pie stand in 1929. Her children moved the pie company to Loveland in 1960 as Colorado Cherry Company. The next generation opened shops in Lyons and Estes Park. The great grandchildren expanded to Denver in 2020 as Legacy Pie Co. The original Montmorency cherry pie is still featured, although the menu has expanded to other fruits, cream, and savory pies plus cookies and scones. The pies come in Cutie (single serving), Mini (2-3 servings), and 10" sizes plus very generous hand pies. I'm a frequent flier at the original store on Tennyson Street, but I'd forgotten this location on Alameda Avenue had opened about a year ago until I saw the sign while visiting a neighboring business. This is a cute space with a large selection of the pies and other baked items. The bakery is in the back and everything is made fresh, from scratch. This business is also noted (in my mind) for delicious, bottled cherry juice. I noticed they have expanded this sideline to a number of varieties of cider. You can't beat the Montmorency cherry pie, in my view, but the many other offerings are also tasty. I do think these guys have a bit of a heavy hand with the crust--particularly on the fruit pies. The crust is well-made, but I'd prefer a bit thinner, lighter crust. Unlike Tennyson Street which offers drinks and has quite a bit of seating, this location is takeout only. This is a small shopping strip with only a few stores and a good-sized parking lot which is great since parking in the neighborhood is difficult.

Great looking pastry and execution! Chicken was seasoned perfectly, thick gravy on top that did not spill out everywhere or make the pastry soggy, and loved the herbs on top. Just picked up but staff were super friendly and informative. There is no seating inside so just keep in mind it is just to pick up/take out!

This spot just opened up on our way to school and we were excited for an after school snack. It is cute and clean on the inside but I was a little disappointed that there is no place to sit and share a pie! On to the pies- variety, flaky crust, savory or sweet- lots of options! We had the mixed berry and the bourbon apple- ooooh that topping was yummy! Both were delish! This is a local company so I always love to support a small business! They even have black bing cherry cider, which if you know- you Know, and if you don't, it's a Colorado think not to be missed! I used to have to drive to Estes Park to get that juice but now I can stop on the way to school, yay!

If you are looking for a place to get your pie fix, Legacy Pie is it! Run to get their Wild Maine Blueberry Pie. No one ever uses Maine blueberries, and they are so much better in a pie than regular ones. We have done the take and bake twice and they turned out delicious, and are so easy to bake. We tried cherry last time and that was great too. You can do mini pies as well, but if you want a few days worth of dessert, go for the larger size. Staff is always friendly as well, and very accommodating. Looking forward to the next visit!

Beyond serving ice cream, they serve as an outdoor gathering spot with events like ice cream making, movies on a projector screen, and live music throughout the year. They also sell real Christmas trees (little ones for the little men/women in your life) during the holidays. This is LoHi, so be prepared for a bit of street parking headache if you're driving here. While waiting in line, browse the posted signs for current specials and sneak a peek at the scoop flavors posted between each order window. On extra long wait days, you can walk down the street to their factory location just a few yards down to save time on their year-round flavors. They do have dairy-free options as well. Once you're at the front, walk up to the first open scooper at any of the various windows and you can sample any flavor on the menu. Obviously the Salty O (a salty Oreo) is a staple, but I'm partial to their Ube Cheesecake (it does taste like ube!) as well. Some of their salty flavors can err a little TOO salty, which was a first for me ice cream wise, so just be warned that I wouldn't get more than a single scoop of these unless you're a sodium fiend. Their ice cream sandwiches are pretty good too, but come out solid as a rock from the freezer so you might get stuck thawing this in your pocket while the rest of your friends are downing their dessert. Take a minute to unplug and people watch on the patio while you enjoy.

But fast forward to 2026 and the era of tariffs and inflations, a $10 drink is the norm. And I'm glad I decided to give MTP another try. First time was good but didn't stand out. This time around, I left impressed. We were in Downtown to see Hell's Kitchen and I decided to bring my partner here since he's never been. This time, I ordered the ube jasmine sweet cream drink because it didn't look too powdery and artificial (the light purple color spoke to me). We also ordered the black sesame drink and both drinks were quite delicious and definitely worth the drive for the drinks (or at least the 14 min walk from the entertainment venues to here for a pick me up before the shows). They're not too sweet and I'm glad that they don't overload the drink with ice because I've been to some places where you get 90% ice. That being said, my drink was really good and I do want to come back here to try their other drinks.
