This place was recommended to me by a local person as I was visiting the area. They have a large selection of "fancy" donuts. I had a maple bacon bar (the Oprah), which is very large. It's close to double the size of most others I've had and loaded with crumbles of bacon on top. Also had the peanut butter pancake which was not skimpy on the peanut flavor although a bit messy to eat. The winner was the breakfast sandwich. Sausage patty, egg, cheese, and cream cheese on a toasted plain donut. I did not expect it to be so good, I think it was the cream cheese that really put it over the top. read more

My son's birthday was coming up, and he's not much of a cake lover...donuts are his jam so we headed to Legendary Doughnuts to place an order. I was worried they wouldn't be able to fulfill our request with only a week notice, but they were more than happy to accommodate. The gal that assisted us was super helpful and pleasant. She really seemed to enjoy her job and answered any and all of the questions we had. We ended up preordering a large doughnut burger for my son's party. It was ready on time and looked just as pictured! I've also stopped by here when I was in a pinch to provide some treats for our football team. I came in last minute (almost closing time) but was still able to get a few dozen of the filled doughnut holes. All of the flavors were really yummy! I love donuts. I grew up in the era of Donut Shops. Here in Seattle, we had plenty of Winchell's and even Dunkin, not to mention the independent bakers. Matter of fact, all the grocery stores had in house bakeries that made great donuts as well. This was my second time here. I was here about a decade or so ago and remember not being impressed. I was hoping time would have changed my mind, but the same issues existed. It was way too much bread for too much money and not enough icing. I had a maple glazed that was twice as thick as it needed to be with half as much icing required to coat the pastry. I also was turned off by the card reader asking me to tip. Really, you deserve a tip for pushing a donut across the counter? Stop with the 'Tip Assault" If you made the donut custom or iced it in front of me, maybe we could talk tip, but in my book a tip is for service above and beyond and handing me my donut is included in the transaction. For the record, service was both nice and friendly. I had a paper route as a kid and half my route had special request about where there paper was placed and almost nobody tipped. These days, if you get the paper, it just lands in your driveway. But the point is tips are the product of service, so I'm offended that non service people and activities stand with their hands out. This place deserves a single star, but the service was friendly, and it's not that guys fault ownership doesn't know what their doing. read more

This place was pretty good! I was mostly impressed with how nice the staff was. I got the pumpkin crème brûlée donut which they torch right in front of you which is really cool! I really like the variety that they have as well! Although the texture of the donut was on point, I wish it had slightly more flavor, or maybe had some sort of filling inside. Really have a love-hate relationship with this place, and to be fully honest - it's mostly hate. Their doughnuts are ok, it's really more about the novelty than anything... always considered this place more of a voodoo doughnut knock-off more than anything. Had a few unpleasant experiences here, one more recent than the last and finally decided to write a review to share my experience. Stopped by on 09/13/22 to pick up some apple fritters - a personal favorite of mine. Went to pay in cash and was directed to a sign saying they didn't accept cash and you had to use credit as they are now "cashless" because of a string of local robberies in the area(?) Fine, I go to use my credit card and am told that a 3% charge will be automatically applied unless I used a debit card, which I didn't have in my possession at the time. My other option was to pay $16 dollars for one fritter since they couldn't make change. So, I'm fine with you going cashless - but why not bake that 3% into your already ridiculously high prices rather than applying it afterwards to induce sticker shock? Cashier was like, "Sorry - nothing I can do." Opted to forgo the fritter and left disappointed. At this point, this is par for the course for my visits to this place. The last time I was here and bought some fritters, they were burnt. So much so, you couldn't taste anything but burnt dough... the most awful fritter I have ever had in my entire life. Took them back to the shop and told the owner who was manning the counter at the time and she looked at me as if I had said her first born baby was the ugliest baby in existence, ever. She seemed very skeptical of what I was saying and questioning me like I must have been mistaken. It was very odd and off-putting. Eventually I was given two replacement fritters and, to be honest, they weren't much better. Truly wanted to like this place since it's nearby, like to shop locally... and LOVE doughnuts. The prices here are high and have been since they opened, quality is relatively ok but does not justify the price. I suppose you are paying for the "unique" toppings and varieties - mostly hype in my opinion. Officially giving up on this place, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else... anywhere else, the novelty and hype of their doughnuts isn't enough of a draw. I have a love hate relationship with this place. I love doughnuts and especially fresh artisan ones. These are supposed to be baked fresh every morning and delivered from federal way, but sometimes you will get a stale feeling one. I'm not sure if that's because they sit out in the open air in the display case or if maybe it was a day old. More often than not they will not have the doughnuts you're looking for and you'll have to settle for some other variety. The staff is not very helpful in picking either. I have asked for things similar to what I'm looking for and they have just gestures to the display case for me to pick instead of helping point out something that would have a similar taste or texture or anything. I prefer a cake doughnut over a raised and more than 50% of the time I've gone here, they have not had a single cake doughnut and I've gotten an old fashioned instead. The doughnuts are a hit or a miss. Sometimes they are to die for good and sometimes they are just ok. This location is always dirty. I don't know if they prefer to only sweep and wipe the tables once a day at closing or what it is that makes it so messy inside. I've never gone in and seen a clean table or a floor without dust and grime on it. They allow dogs inside so you are likely to see dog hair around, but since the doughnuts are not cooked onsite, I've never had a dog hair on my doughnut. The juxaposition of these locations reveal that while they appear to offer the same type items, the Auburn dough is inferior. The direct comparision of the Boston creme' donut creations from both places prove this point. The toppings, stuffings and icings are similiar however, LD's donut foundation tasted a bit stale and dry in Auburn. HOWEVER, I found out that by having them heat up those suckas for a few seconds, the taste improves BIG TIME! See my photos for the Conan the Bavarian and the cheaper mini custom versions of it - they call it filled doughnut balls! The Bavarian butta cream is so rich, buttery, and fattening as hell but well worth it! If I hadn't tried Voodoo, the standard would probably not be set as high. We love legendary and come here to treat our kids. I was HIGHLY disappointed this morning while waiting in line with my son. While waiting the lady who was picking doughnuts out of the case for customers sneezed. Now when this happens you should stop and wash your hands. Did she do that? ABSOLUTELY NOT! When this place first opened, it was nice to be able to order unique donuts with cute names and not have to travel to Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland. But, I remember receiving terrible service. It was so bad that, in reality I received absolutely no service at all. I was standing there waiting to pick out my donuts for approximately 10 minutes while the girl behind the counter was ogling my husband. When she finally snaps out of it gives me dirty looks that I interrupted her loving gazes at her potential one night stand. And of course we never came back after that day because I would have caught a charge. Fast forward several years later to today. We were in the area and I wanted a donut and remembered the Oprah and I also wanted to see if they still had the strawberry shortcake donut. Which they didn't but oh well. The Oprah was just like I remembered the donut itself was good but the bacon pieces tasted delicious. On this particular trip the gal behind the counter packing my donuts was nice enough but the girl ringing me up had such a unhappy look on her face and it gave me the impression of what the hell is this Asian chick doing in this area. Innovative, fun, yummy...and out where it's hard for me to get to them!....which is a good/bad thing. Auburn is lucky to have Legendary Doughnuts! The space is laid out lovingly and rather cute, I think. The day I went out to visit, I thought the Oprah - which is a bacon maple bar - was excellent. My children and I found the doughnuts fresh, soft and tasty. Clearly Legendary starts out copying Voodoo...but nobody can really be like Voodoo, even with a better donut! (which I'm not saying these are...it's just Voodoo is beyond the pale at this point) But where Legendary starts out copying, they carry it further, coming up with their own, unique flavor combos. They have chocolate bars covered with cherry. They have smores cake donuts and an Elvis - with banana chips and peanut butter. I applaud them for trying to innovate and bringing good donuts to this area. The one confusing aspect - which may have changed since I was there - was the idea that donuts were different price levels, indicated by things like "amateur" or "legend", etc. and, when picking out a dozen, you had to choose from the different levels (http://s3-media4.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/YtlP2-58mC0T_S0eaegwbA/l.jpg). I went in today because I had a Groupon which was going to expire soon. At first I was annoyed I had to drive all the way to Auburn from Kirkland for doughnuts since I don't even usually eat them, but once I got there I was impressed! The store itself is cute. [I wish I had a better adjective.] When I looked at their care I was overwhelmed by all the choices but the guy working took his time and explained to me that I can have 4 of the Legendary, 4 of the Famous, and 4 of the Amateur doughnuts as part of my Groupon. Once I made up my mind he packed them up and I was on my way within 5-7 minutes of arrival. Lots of pro's to this place and I can't think of any con's except for the location. This place has a variety of selections that you won't find at your typical bakers dozen. They have large donuts, but they also have a selection of donut balls that are smaller if you want to try a few without fully committing. They have cleaver names, which makes trying to decide half the fun. My boyfriend had a Conan the Bavarian, while I had a couple of the donut balls. Everything was good and filling, but the customer service was a little lacking. We were the only ones in the store and had to wait around for a while before someone came out of the back. read more

Stopping in on a Saturday, the first the you'll notice is that it's fairly busy for such a small storefront. Both times I've been here, the place was packed. That's neat, because busy places make me feel like product is fresh by nature of rotation. It's also kinda annoying, because you can't see the whole case to pick your donuts. You have to squeeze in-between people to figure out what to get. Beyond that, the layout of the store is nice, the staff are very friendly and not impatient with people like me that take a couple minutes to pick my donuts given the huge variety they have on hand. The donuts themselves are very good. I prefer simple donuts myself, but some of their concoctions are really interesting and original. I've had a plain glazed donut here, amongst others, and it stands up to my feeling of what a donut should be. I can't imagine why some people call this a poor imitation of voodoo donuts in Portland. I can see that a 'specialty donut shop' is uncommon, but while Voodoo is awesomely crass and unpretentious, Legendary is more stoic and lends itself to a different audience. Granted, were both of these shops across the street from each other, I'd be going to Voodoo, while my wife would be at Legendary. All in all, a very good donut at what I consider to be a decent price, and worth the drive from West Seattle. read more

I've stopped in here quite a few times and picked up donuts for the office but most of the time, they're inhaled before I can even get my hands on one I'd want to eat. Most of their selection is over-the-top, diabetic-coma type stuff. If you've ever been to Voodoo Donuts in Portland, it's pretty similar. Just waaaay too sweet for my taste. What I'm really looking for in a doughnut place is an awesome glazed or cinnamon sugar doughnut. Legendary? Not quite...good...yes.
