I guess I was hoping for a nicer "happy" person behind the counter! Delicious doughnuts. Priced right. First time there and the worker behind the counter had no personality and was rude. I ordered about 8 doughnuts and I got them placed in a small box stacked on top of each other with no wax paper between them. When I got home all the doughnuts had to be pulled apart and the frosting was stuck on the bottoms of the top doughnuts.. was not very appetizing! I also wanted to get a assorted box of 6 small cupcake sized doughnuts as presented at the cash register and the worker said "you have to order those". She did not offer alternative. We also wanted a chicken sandwich as shown on the menu at this location. The employee just said "we don't make those" When I told her it was on their menu she said that other locations make the chicken sandwich but not them...not sure why then it was still on their menu. She saw me looking at the specialty drinks available on the wall and she pointed out that they were out of the mix for the Red Bull Strawberry one. I saw there was another one with a different Red Bull combination mix and I asked about that one and she said rudely "as I said we are out of that mix". On my first visit to Legendary Doughnuts I didn't know it was a chain and my experience inside reinforced that standalone feel. Rather barebones space without elaborate displays. Utilitarian. A friendly greeting from behind the cases and a genuine readiness to help made me feel welcome. It was probably an advantage nobody other customers were around at that moment. At every donut shop I visit, I order a plain. Every place should get the classic right, so I was happy Legendary passed the test. It was not stellar but it checked the boxes. My second doughnut was one of the fancies, heavy on chocolate and "inspired by" Girl Scout thin mint cookies. It was a treat, literally. The doughnut itself was very good and the cookie was fairly accurate. Where this one went wrong was the frosting. It had a hint of mintiness but should have had more, but its downfall was the texture. An odd greasiness was off-putting on its own and was only partially disguised when munched with the donut proper. Still, I had no problem gradually plowing through the entire concoction. Knowing now that Legendary Doughnuts has multiple locations, I will gladly drop by any of them for another try. On the other hand, I wouldn't go out of my way just to patronize them. Visiting my family for the holidays from AZ and my brother told me about this place yesterday when we drove by. I have been coming to visit Seattle for the past 4 years and for some reason this had not come up. Well, I am so glad it did yesterday. This morning, I woke up at 6am, told my teen son to get ready for coffee and donuts and we took off. Found the donut shop was only 7 minutes from my parents house. The second you walk-in, your mouth will begin to drool, from the incredible smell. It is magical. I can only describe it as happiness. I wish I had grabbed the name of the super nice lady that helped us this morning. She said she loved working the morning for that very reason. The size of the donuts are insane. Since it was our first time there, it took a few minutes to figure out what we wanted but since it all looked so good, we basically got two of almost everything. We have a large family so it was not that difficult to choose just by looking at those yummy treats. I took some pics, but they did not last. Huge donuts that are okay tasting but great to look at. When we walked in we were so excited to try all the different flavors and creations in the display box. From huge donuts, to donut holes and pastries like lemon bars it's hard to choose and not over indulge. My wife got two kinds of donut holes one powdered sugar and one cinnamon sugar. She said they were not impressive. I got the huge chocolate bar. The chocolate was delicious but the bread of the donut wasn't anything impressive. If someone brought these into work I would eat them but I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase them again.
