When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the smell, and it didn't smell like a pie shop at all. It actually smelled more like Indian food. I love Indian food, so that's not the issue, it just wasn't what I expected from a bakery that specializes in pies. I was looking through the options and asked the employee what their most popular pie was, pretty normal question, I think. But the response I got felt rude and kind of condescending. I was told, "Everybody has their favorite, all items are popular," in a tone that just made me feel like I shouldn't have asked. I'm all for supporting local spots, but customer service really matters. That interaction alone made me feel unwelcome, that will be my last time going there.

I know they do not have regular open hours for just walk in purchase, but rather, they're custom order type business, but I have yet to place any custom orders so I cannot speak to that experience. What made me write this review is how accurate the owner (Brianne) described cake and desserts in the description and the baked goods taste matched 200% of the description. The pistachio cake was out of the world, so was the whoopie pie!!! I got to meet Brianne in person and she was very friendly, and was kind to explain everything about each of her baked goods she had out that day. I've tried their baked goods from pop tarts to cookies to housemade Twinkie and the creation and taste are unmatched. Single serve baked goods were more on pricier side, but well worth every bite. I would definitely order custom baked goods from here, knowing the quality and taste of products from this shop!!! Currently, you can find Spilled Butter baked goods at Cosmonaut coffee, Outer Dark Coffee, and at Tacoma Farmers Market (also known as Tacoma Broadway Farmers Market) from time to time. Enjoy!!!

Flavors change daily. Plus cookies, and tiny chocolate filled bunt cakes. They also carry a few gift items like kitchen towels. We purchased two dozen mini-cupcakes for a birthday and were shown a large menu of available flavors. We selected six different flavors that I though the birthday girl would like and boy was I right. The cupcakes are moist, lots of frosting and flavorful. Definitely a 'hit'. I saw some flavors I wanted to try during my two previous visits so we stopped in again and this time I picked four cupcakes for myself and my SO to share. First, chocolate strawberry. Wow, the fresh strawberry taste in that frosting is amazing. Next lemon meringue. I don't know how, but that frosting really does taste like lemon meringue! Absolutely love both of these flavors. Next was a mixed berry cream cheese. A mix of light summer berries inside and bold cream cheese frosting contrast. Delicious. My last of these four is the mud pie. Chocolate on chocolate, rich and decedent. I absolutely love that these little cupcakes all have bold flavors, make a nice portion for a quick treat and are not overly sweet. My favorite bakery in the most dangerous location in Burien…read more Not dangerous because of crime. Dangerous because it's directly across the street from my gym. Nothing says "great workout" quite like immediately replacing every calorie you just burned with one of Bakery Nouveau's twice-baked chocolate croissants. I prefer to think of it as strategic carbohydrate replenishment. Everything here is exceptional. The pastries are buttery, flaky, and somehow manage to ruin every grocery store croissant for the rest of your life. The coffee is excellent, the staff is consistently friendly, and it's one of those places where it's impossible to leave with only the one thing you came in for. The neighborhood feels safe, parking is plentiful, and the only real hazard is convincing yourself you deserve "just one more pastry." Five stars. My spin instructor may disagree. Bakery Nouveau is worth every extra minute on the bike.

After my initial review, management proactively reached out to make things right. Not many restaurants take active measures to leave a better impression, and I 100% want to support their incredible service. We returned on a Monday at 11:30 AM and had a spectacular experience. The weather was beautiful, so we enjoyed the stunning outdoor seating area by the fountain and florals. Because it was a quieter weekday, we were seated immediately, our server was incredibly kind and attentive, and our food came out in just 15 minutes! We ordered the Fried Cod and French Fries, which was fried to absolute perfection (perfect batter, crispy outside, soft/warm inside). The fries were spectacular, too. I only wish the sides of coleslaw and pickles were a bit larger. We also had the Salmon Farro Bowl, which featured beautifully cooked salmon and a nice medley of veggies and avocado. It was a little bland for my personal taste, but it is a fantastic, clean option for health-conscious diners. My first visit was clearly just a fluke due to a busy weekend crowd. It could be that I'm just more used to ethnic flavors and these were just not quite hitting the mark. For example the stratciatella was good, but if the whipped ricotta was a little more fluffy and there was some extra black pepper or lemon added it would have been perfect. The pork belly was a little dry and not worth the price for just three pieces. The thick cut truffle fries were very good however. We also tried the bucatini and it was nice but still I wanted a little more kick. It has spice but just needs a little something to punch it up. The steak sandwich two of the three of us sharing a meal loved and I'd say was the best thing we ate. The service staff was kind, considerate and gave us time and made sure our drinks were filled. There are still a lot of dishes I'd like to try and since I loved the area, it would be worth coming back again.
