First, I'm always greeted by desk staff upon entering facility; staff are friendly, answering questions I may have sans the B.S.. Cleanliness of facility-second to none! i just had an experience where two men were walking into the women's restroom and I had to let them know that the restroom I was in was for women which I think is absolutely ridiculous that I had to even say something being that there are no signs on the doors differentiating which one is for women and which is for men. There have been numerous times that I've been using the restroom and there is a male worker cleaning it? why is this happening? Close the restroom if you need to. it's extremely unprofessional and makes just going to the bathroom an uncomfortable experience. the girls that work there need To start stepping up and do their jobs to clean the bathrooms as well and not make it an uncomfortable situation for the women who just want to use the restroom in peace. please consider fixing this issue. read more

Least they could do for the price people are paying, it encourages people to actually clean up after themselves as well. Staff were nice except for the lady that signed me up for my free trial. She had bad customer service and only started being nice after I was. Not overtly rude but her energy was off putting and made me less inclined to like the space. Good customer service is important. I'm a brand new member at Legends in Oxnard and came in on Monday after signing up online. Honey helped me out and she was honestly great. I've always been intimidated by gyms since I'm new to this whole scene, but she made it feel way less scary and way more welcoming. She was super friendly, really knowledgeable, and explained everything in a way that actually made sense. No pressure, no awkward sales talk....just genuine help. She took the time to walk me around, answer all my questions, and made me feel comfortable instead of lost. I left feeling excited and confident about joining, which is not something I expected walking into a gym. If you're new, nervous, or just want someone cool who knows their stuff, ask for Honey. Love this gym, it gets pack but theres always enough machines for you not to stop your workout. Only problem i have is the maintenance staff for the restrooms lol. I got nothing to be ashamed of but a female going in the mens restroom and cleaning up and restocking everything can always go bad lol. even though she yells "maintenance coming in" she can always walk in at the wrong time and that can be some trouble. Now imagine if the roles were reversed. The best way to sum up Legends Barbell in Oxnard is as follows: They don't care. About anything. Broken equipment abounds, and there is an overall negative vibe to the whole place. I came in to tour the place a few days ago, based on the fact that this used to be a terrific gym: the big selling point was the outdoor area, which was a great replica of muscle Beach. The young man giving the tour absolutely REFUSED to let us see the outdoor area. Why? His only answer was "it's a liability" and " it's dangerous." "Dangerous"? Seriously? Clearly, they're hiding something. Having read the multitude of other negative reviews, I'm guessing what they're hiding is the bathrooms/locker rooms, which you have to walk through to get to the outdoor area. The other reviews point out that the bathroom/locker rooms are in such a horrible state of disrepair, they know nobody will sign up if prospective members see them. Most telling: there are so many other awful reviews, and they haven't responded to a single one. Again, they don't care. read more

I gave Legends Barbell a one star (not good) review for the following reasons: 1. There written policy and website omit key details that may inconvenience members and their guests. First their website omits the $10 enhancement fee that members have to pay in addition to their monthly membership fee. So the $25 a month membership they advertise on their website is actually $35 per month and the pro member is $45 per month. 2. Thier policy states that "all guests must have a valid driver's license" but fails to include they will accept a valid state ID or learners permit if the guest does not have a passport. They do not accept the following forms of photo identification for guests: military DOD identification cards, dependent military ID cards, U.S. passports, and green cards. However, the front desk employees verbally stated that they do accept state ID cards even though their policy says they only accept "state driver's license." PLEASE UNDERSTAND:if you have family or friends, who do not have a valid state ID or that are foreign nationals, temporarily visiting the area, they will not be able to access this facility. 3. Despite the fact that the gym is located between two large military naval bases: Naval Station Point Mugu and Port Hueneme, they do not advertise their military discount on their website or in their facility. When I inquired about their military discount over the phone they said I had to visit in person to discuss the details. Considering this and the details from the previous paragraph I do not consider this gym to be military friendly whatsoever. 4. Their locker rooms do not have lockers. 5. The turf area in the gym could be significantly bigger for the amount of space they have in the gym. 6. They have a pool; however; it is temporarily inaccessible and does not have a cover on it (potential safety hazard). read more

The amount of equipment and variety is great but it did not compensate for unorganized weights, terrible water fountains, low quality cardio equipment, low visibility/bad lighting, nonsense rules (can't take shoes off to deadlift/squat), very loud music (overpowered my headphones), and poor customer service (had to wait 15 mins to check in a guest even though I had guest privileges). You are better off finding another gym for the same or lower price. read more

Came to workout while traveling for work on a day pass. If I lived in the area this place would be my gym. Has the best vibe. The music was a plus to because I forgot my airbuds. Walking into this gym and seeing the aesthetics alone will motivate you!! Very friendly staff, no pressure, I was thoroughly explained every bit of the policy and financial obligations. I ended up canceling my membership solely for budget cutting purposes only...I had access to my apartment gym, so it made sense for me... Sadly, I had to leave. But I do have to say, when I asked for a refund since my monthly payment had just gone through they happily honored my request and responded very swiftly. Within minutes I had funds back in my account. I typically don't leave reviews but felt like I needed to shout them out for the smoothest transition and excellent customer service. This gym has changed owners and hands so many times now since becoming Legends not only did all of the customers whom already paid for their yearly memberships get screwed out of their money, but they've shut down the showers completely so if you wanna work out and then go directly to your job too bad you can't. The basketball courts have been removed. And as of this morning, I was told that the bathrooms are not in service there are porta potties set up outside in 50° weather for patrons to utilize and hand wash stations if they'd like to wash their hands. Not only is this incredibly unsanitary, but unrealistic. read more

Legends is a full fledged, for lack of a better word, body building gym. If you are looking for a super clean environment, this isn't the gym for you. I love my trainer and you have to be a member to be able to use the trainer however I have mentioned several times to the staff that they need to "clean" up their act but to no avail ‍ Several light bulbs have been out for months. But..... the equipment, when it's not under repair, is top notch and the staff is very friendly and extremely helpful read more

It's wonderful with just two little complaints, easily fixed: 1. Each of the many pulley machines has just ONE type of grip that is fixed there with a locked carbine. Makes zero sense since it's a serious gym, well over 70% of the people are in great shape so... Why are we being treated like children? C'mon people! 2. The stickers indicating weights on the two arms of the dual cable machines don't match, not even close, so you can never be sure if both arms are doing the same weight. I mean, you can more or less do it by feel, but if you are tracking your progress, forget it. Would take five minutes to fix, c'mon people! read more

this Oxnard gym is kind of odd. I was told by the manager at the front desk that I can not get a free trial because I didn't have my drivers licenses not ID but my valid drivers licenses. I explained I just got my class A license and I have a DMV print out and I also have my PASSPORT with me so I was told a passport is not accepted also SMH. but I was told I didn't need anything to get a direct membership very very odd this gym. read more

ZERO stars. Billing practices are horrible at best. Signed up for free trial. Tried to cancel. Was given an email address that no one replied to. Went to the gym in person and was told my free trial turned into a paid membership because I went there on the 8th day. They used a creative calendar in my opinion because I was there on day 7. Was told the only way to cancel my free trial is to email the same email or pay $20. I emailed AGAIN. This time included the gym manager's name and recap of my attempts to cancel free trial three days before. Finally got a call and was told it would be cancelled without any charges to my credit card. Legends Barbell Canceled my Gym membership because a Lady at the gym Name Genesis that has been bothering me for a while made a complaint about me. This woman is friends with employees and Managers at the gym. She had been making faces at me, intimidating me, and body shaming other gym members. I asked her about why she's like this when I'm a minor and she's a grown woman. After she went and made a complaint about me. I don't know what she told them to cancel my membership I never threatened her or hurt her. She's the one that has disrespected me. I reached out to Legends to make a complaint about her as-well and they ignored me. I have been a member since they started changing it to Legends and I can't even get a response ? She also got my mom's membership canceled when my mom has nothing to do with this, didn't even know of her existence. Her name is GENESIS don't know her last name, don't know this lady. read more

Getting anything accomplished at this gym is unbelievably difficult and annoying. If you ask for ANYTHING from the front desk they immediately tell you to go have a seat. It's so stupid because the person who is going to help you is also right there at the front desk, and will wait for you to go sit down to walk over and tell you to come up to the front desk. They won't look up your membership over the phone, they won't process any changes at the gym, you have to email. Nothing makes any sense. On top of all their stupid rules and policies, they change every single member 9.99 a month on top of the membership for gym maintenance. They took over World Gym a year ago and have rearranged the gym 400 times since then and still aren't done. Every week everything is moved and in a new spot and it's such a mess. They CLOSED The showers and took out the lockers for repairs/remodeling at least 6 months ago but haven't even started so everything is just unusable in the meantime. The sinks have been broken for years but they don't care. Honestly if this gym wasn't so close to my house I wouldn't go here. I miss world gym. And bumper plates. And normal rules. read more

My son went to what use to be World Gym in Oxnard. There is no sign outside that it is under new owner ship or change of gym name to Legends Barbell. We never received an email or txt notification of the new gym take over. But the monthly payment has still been coming out of my husband's account like clockwork since the gym change. When acquiring a company, they take over the existing membership contracts and collect the monthly dues from members. My son was denied access to the gym that day, as his information did not transfer over. Paloma the manager said she had no access to the old system and provided no alternate but for me to email the company and request a call from corporate. This was on a Sunday. If they want to have the existing members to sign a new contract with your gym. They should have at least offered a free 1-3-day pass until the information can be accessed and transferred over. Not turn away members. Paloma stated that a 1-day pass would be $20 for the day. Which I was not about to pay since I had already paid the monthly dues that no one was honoring. On Tuesday I received a call from Legends Barbell corporation. Representative was not able to refund the funds I had paid for the last 3 months since they took over. All she could do was cancel my membership and stop future payments from being withdrawn. Worst customer service I have ever delt with at the gym and from corporate. read more

A lot of these really low reviews seem to be people nitpicking certain aspects of the gym and not really giving the overall experience a rating... Or they have some sort of personal issue with the gym staff adhering to the principal that the member either doesn't remember, didn't read, or isn't paying attention to when they signed the contract. When you sign your contract for a membership, they go over the things that are allowed and not allowed here such as no flip-flops, open toe shoes, etc... no bare feet, no personal promotion, having actual gym etiquette, (which most of you still don't have) not taking dumbbells out of the dumbbell area and not bogarting five sets of dumbbells so that everybody gets a chance, considering everyone else that's going there is also paying a membership and deserves to have the same access. I used to be here before ownership changed hands from "World Gym" to "Legends" and I can tell you from experience that this place is night and day compared to what the last ownership group was. Almost everything in this place at this point is brand new or being refurbished, the layout of the gym is a lot easier to navigate instead of just a hodgepodge of junk thrown everywhere and you having to work your way through the gym like a maze in order to just complete your workout. Another thing that they upgraded when they changed ownership groups is that now everybody has to sign in individually, and they verify to make sure that the person signing in is the person on the computer monitor instead of one key card to scan and then six people walk through at the same time because nobody is at the desk. Now there's at least two people up at the front desk at all times to make sure that everyone who is coming in is the person paying for the membership. Just by doing that, I have seen a reduction in riffraff and people that don't actually pay for a membership contaminating the place. The fact that the gym has stayed open and allowed its members to continue to work out while construction is going on, should not be understated as well, I've seen a lot of gripes on these reviews, talking about how long the construction has been taking, and that the locker rooms are still out of commission. The plumbing still works so while you're doing your workout, if you need to use the restroom you're still able, but refurbishing an already shitty locker room and trying to make it functional can't be a simple task, so I imagine once they do get them up and running, they'll have been worth the wait. Again, it just seems like a lot of reviews that are here that are negative are just sour grapes and people don't actually take time to appreciate all of the changes that have been made since this place used to be owned by seemingly an absentee owner, who only gave a shit about putting money in his pocket or people that want things done overnight. They've also renovated other areas of the gym that were niche at best and now serve more of a purpose. Thank you Legends for saving my gym. I appreciate it read more

Regular gym go-er. Never once saw an employee cleaning. Customers/other gym go-res never wipe down machines when they're done and the employees don't enforce it at all. They don't even walk around the facility. Asked front desk to un-jam paper towel machine so I could clean the machine prior to me using it and was assured it would get done. Nope never got done. I had to walk across the whole gym to get paper towels to clean the machine before and after use. Also, when I signed up, I SPECIFICALLY signed up because there was a females only small area. After only a month of going here while it was transitioning from World Gym to Legend Barbell they made it for everyone. This small area also DIRECTLY leads into the FEMALE LOCKER ROOM. I'm giving it 2 stars Due to the fact that me and my friend got the 7day pass and after we decided it wasn't for us. At the time We came back 1-2 weeks later my friend was going to sign up and add me as her buddy pass , what they forgot to mention was that once you get a the 7 day trial you are not allowed to come in as a buddy pass. You basically have to get your own membership. When we first went for the 7day trial not once did they mention this , neither is it anywhere on their website. If you want to get a membership and want to bring someone with you as a buddy pass make sure only 1 of you get the 7 day trial. &' if you want to cancel you're membership it's $20dollars. read more

Refused to accept a state accredited UC ID as a form of identification. Staff is super un-professional and is not up to par with other facilities in the areas knowledge when it comes to customer service and knowledge of gym etiquette. If you are big on fees. This gym has hidden fees. its not $25, $35 or $95 a month it's more and only discounts are for military only I was told and not for first responders or any members of health provider companys. they say no contracts and cancel anytime but there's a $20 fee to cancel. When you look at their website only thing different out of the 3 types of memberships is the price. Nothing explained about if you can have a guest or visit other gyms having a type of membership. Used to work here as the overnight shift manager. As a former employee, the only big complaint I have is our cleaning procedure is scary what we follow if you care about your health. Nothing really gets cleaned, just surface wiped. Also the few roaches and rats I saw there is concerning. The team and staff is cool, management can be pretty rude and does not care about your opinions. And the music has f**k this, f**k that in every single song and I always wished we played more clean music. Other than that I'd say save your money and go elsewhere. The idea is nice but they are not what they stand to be. Just hoping to bank on your business without providing real customer service training. read more

Aside from that if you sign up on the 23rd. They charge you $69.95 roughly just because you didn't cancel after the week trial and then they charge you $39.95 at the first of the month plus some sort of $10 fee for god knows what. NEVER SIGN UP HERE. They will rip you off. Manager put me on hold for 10 minutes, forgot about me, I called back and I understand this is there policy but I haven't even trained one month at this gym and they're gonna charge me $20 to cancel, and I've already paid $100 for one month at this gym. Stair Masters have been out of service for ever. What's the point of being "24hrs" if you can't even use the showers. It takes forever to check in/ inconvenient. My friend wanted to get a pass and was not allowed to because she was a previous WORLDS GYM MEMBER that is still being charged btw. Owner contradicted himself and doesn't know how to try to win customers. As far as the music goes it is TRASH. It's not even the cussing the music is just so corny and unpleasant. There's no accessible trash cans or paper towels/ Cleaning bottles to wipe down machines. I can never find any nearby. I think there's only 2 in the first floor. Also the clips to change attachments on the cable machines is almost impossible. read more

Been a lot of disruption with the painting and moving around of equipment. I have a few other small complaints but not worth the effort. But my biggest complaint is their loud and obnoxious music. Only once when I asked for it to be turned down because it bleeds through my Air pods was my request accepted. The other times front desk staff said they would have to ask their manager. Ridiculous!! That is either pure laziness or just stupidity. Why does it have to be so loud to bleed through my headphones? I look around and roughly 90% of the people have their own headphones anyway. Who is that loud obnoxious music for then anyway? Staff? The 10% not wearing headphones? Anyway because of this idiocy, I ended up spending $200 on a Bose Quiet Comfort over ear noise canceling headphone. I shouldn't of had to do so. Shame on you Legends. read more

The only reason why I am not rating this place 5 stars is due to their awful costumer service. The young ladies in the Front Desk lack Communication and Customer service skills. For all the people trying to find a new gym to start the year, by all means, avoid this gym like the PLEGUE. You essentially pay for your monthly membership, PLUS an additional $10 a month to help "maintain" the gym. Not sure where my money went to since half the machines are broken, and to make it worse, the restrooms are definitely a HEALTH VIOLATION. All the men's restroom stalls are broken, while there's literally urine and paper towers all over the floors. If you don't mind holding it in for 2-3 hours, then by all means, go for it, but if I'm paying an additional cost to help "maintain" the gym, then at least get the restrooms situated. I have also seen a few roaches from time to time. Don't take the risk of getting an infection for their poor sanitary procedures and avoid getting a membership here. There are cleaner and more affordable gyms out nearby. read more
