Man I can't express how great this place is. It's not one of those cliches where they act a certain way to get you in and stay. The MVMNT family makes you feel at home. They have so much to offer in the fitness and nutrition aspects, and you make connections with different people. Oxnard MVMNT is a quality CrossFit gym offering great programming, private training and nutrition coaching, with knowledgeable, amazing trainers that will assist you on your journey to fitness and continue to give you amazing support. A traditional gym never really worked for me. The monotony of the workouts, jumping on some weight machines with no real workout plan, and doing group classes of extreme cardio or "strength training"with 5-10 lbs. dumbbells didn't do much for me, had me bored and eventually I'd stop going. Since joining CrossFit almost 3 years ago, I've never stopped. I look forward to working out and being with my Oxnard MVMNT family. I can't say enough good things about Oxnard|MVMNT. I started there around April 2018 when I needed to regain control of my health. The hour-long coached classes are just what I needed to get me where I wanted to be with my fitness. All of the coaches are extremely knowledgeable about the exercises and how to scale a workout for anyone's ability or comfort level. There is no judgement here among athletes, so if you're on the fence because you're worried about where you'll fit in, you shouldn't be. You'll be well-taken care of here. This is one of those places that really changes your life. I've been coming for over a year now, almost two. I've had to take a few times off, but they allow holds, so no big deal, and I can never wait to come back. The coaches are awesome, they take the time to make sure we can handle the movements, and push me to do better. This space is more than just a gym to work out in. It's a welcoming community with an amazing staff. CrossFit oftentimes has a reputation for beating up its members and demanding they push past their limits, and while the nature of the sport can definitely push you beyond your comfort zone, Joe definitely takes care to minimize injury by working on your technique. Can't do a handstand push up yet? No problem! You can practice on a box safely on the ground. Thank goodness for that! I also love that he emphasizes some degree of stretching before anyone leaves the gym. It is an oft forgotten activity that should be done waaay more often. Good stuff! The classes are ever-changing and the gym is equipped with all the necessary items such as barbells, kettle bells, boxes, pull up bars, rings, rowers, medicine balls, jump ropes, bands, and plenty of street to run on. Don't be fooled by the huge empty floor space, as it quickly becomes a build-your-own-station-type of scenario for the workout of the day, which consists of "constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movements." As for the people that frequent the gym, they are all encouraging of each other, making it an amazing space for growth. If you're the last one finishing up a workout or simply struggling to complete a round of burpees, there will always be someone rooting for you, giving you advice, or simply expecting you to finish to give you that high five. So go Google CrossFit to get an idea of what this place is about, but don't be intimidated. I'm sure you'll read as much positive as negative stuff about it, but as I mentioned, everything is scaled to your abilities and honestly, most CrossFitters don't perform the crazy-intense workouts you see on YouTube. Half of us would be in the hospital if we tried that! You're in good hands with Joe. Go and see what your body's capable of doing and how much it's able to handle and improve. You won't know unless you try! Oh! And he offers free intro classes on Wednesday nights & Saturday mornings if you want to check it out. Free... meaning you have nothing to lose. I moved to Ventura late last summer and was looking for my new box to call home. It took a while, but after trying several in the Ventura area I finally stumbled upon MVMNT earlier this year. I'm very particular because so many things can affect the experience - the coaches' personalities, the music, the other members, the overall facility itself - it all factors in. This is the one box I can say checks the box on just about everything: friendly, knowledgeable (and certified!) coaches, great music specifically tailored to the type of WOD and at an appropriate volume, friendly classmates, and well-maintained equipment. It's my 1 hour of workout and social time before a very busy day (almost every day), so I really value and appreciate having a great experience to start my day off on a positive note. The community events are a plus (if I can ever fit them into my schedule!) and Kolby is an active and engaged owner who truly focuses on optimizing every part of the member experience. Crossfit Oxnard is a nice facility. The coaches and members are all friendly and encouraging. I love that they put a lot of emphasis on creating a strong crossfit family and community. I am IN.LOVE. Now...that doesn't mean I'm great at it- by ANY means. But it's a great workout and it's fun- and really, I think that's the whole point of it! The coaches are all so incredibly motivating and informative. I went 24 years *thinking* I knew how to squat, and while my long noodle legs have yet to master it- I am doing MUCH better than when I first stepped foot in this place. Beginners: They have an amazing 'NEW YOU' program run by Coach April with assistance from Coach Eva. They are both the most intense (in a good way!!!) ladies I have ever met and really just want to see all their students succeed and fall in love with crossfit as much as they have. It's a great introductory class that covers skills, form and execution. They cover the basics, there's an accountability and nutrition program set in place as well to ensure that your life is more 'whole.' While there- you're sure to form a bond with the girls and motivate and push each other. We became our own little family. As a crossfit novice- I have to say I drank the koolaid and plan on continuing with crossfit- and specifically with Crossfit Oxnard because of the sheer quality of the people that coach there, workout there- it's just good vibes all around. read more

I'm in the US Army and love that this place is veteran owned and operated. CFOx regularly donates time and funds to local military organizations, and the overall respect is simply legit. Everyone says the coaches are amazing, and I'll say it again. Not only do they know their stuff, they help keep you accountable and make it all fun. I get bored so easily at the gym and Crossfit had definitely been a solution to that problem. Joe has done an amazing job creating a great place to come and work out, focusing on skill and the fundamentals to prevent injury. The workouts can be scaled to your fitness level which is great when you're first starting. All of the staff members have been so helpful teaching me the workouts I do not understand or haven't done yet. When I heard the word Crossfit I thought it was only for 20 year old athletes who had a thing for pain. My experience as a beginner (about a year an a half ago) could not have been better. I had no idea that I had found a place full of coaches and fellow athletes who only look to come in, push themselves towards their fitness goals, and share the good vibes. Couple months later I signed up for the on ramp class and now go to this box regularly! About 3 weeks into joining the group classes, I just dove right into this community.I joined a team and did a competition and they welcomed me with open arms. As someone who has NEVER really worked out, I was super hesitant to join any gym much less a functional fitness gym such as Oxnard MVMNT. I say functional fitness because these guys are more than crossfit - and much more socially conscious. They really reflect the concerns of the community and promote inclusiveness through an INCREDIBLY welcoming environment. When a guy with 45 abs and 445 lbs on a barbell stops to cheer you on as you lift the TRAINING bar over your head, you feel welcomed and empowered - not intimidated at all! Now, the personal training or "on ramp" type classes you take prior to joining classes seem pricey, but you get every penny's worth - Brenda; Kolby, Jeff, Niki, and Maddie are so attentive to your physical and mental health. I improved massively and was able to start classes with little bit of confidence under my belt. You really should join this gym! If you do, find me and let's be friends!!!! Great CrossFit experience. My friend and I started CrossFit together but had never visited other gyms and wanted to get our workout in while at a conference in Oxnard. We emailed Joe and got a speedy and enthusiastic response to come on in. Arriving at the gym, the class size was around 10 people and everyone was very friendly and encouraging. Love the coaches and the community. However, the gym owner Joe Dahl is a cancer to his own gym. I am an oncology nurse so I know cancer when I see it. He is constantly disrespectful, sexist and rude to not only his coaches/employees but also his members. He increases his prices regularly, and took away membership discounts because people on a budget are not "quality members" to him. He also thinks its funny to throw dog toys at people MID LIFT which is such a safety hazard. Not to mention his dog is constantly running around, interrupting class, peeing on the floor, and leaving dog hair every where. Its unsanitary and unsafe. My family has been members for over two years and I have talked myself out of leaving many times because of my loyalty to the community. But now unfortunately the problems with the owner have forced us to move gyms. read more

I joined Crossfit Oxnard several years ago shortly after it first opened. It has literally changed my life. It gave me the confidence to pursue my dream career that I gave up on 12 years ago. I met countless people that have become friends for life. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming..and the coaches are incredible. Unfortunately I am moving (because I got that dream job)..but I will be back every chance I get. I truly believe I wouldn't be where I am if this "gym" hadn't come into my life.
