Legends is a great place for finding collectibles and trading cards. I've been to this location multiple times and the employees were all very nice. During my most recent visit, the store was very busy (the checkout line was almost out the door!) but I was able to stop by and pick up the newest issues of The New Batman Adventures and X-Men. I asked an employee if they carried any Batman Beyond, but they didn't. (He was really nice and said he wished they carried more of it though!) This specific location of Legends has a very limited comic/manga selection and no back issues. If you're looking for comics, I recommend going to the Legends location at Eastridge Mall, which has a better selection of trade paperbacks, back issues, and current issues. This Valley Faire location sells mostly trading cards, collectibles/statues/figurines, Funkos, and board games. Overall, I still like coming here even though I don't always buy something! Very Disappointing Experience at the New Location I was a loyal customer at their old location. They would always ask what I was looking for, and it felt like a very human experience. This time, I was looking for a card for my baby cousin, but I will not be returning to the new location after my experience today. I walked in and was completely ignored, albeit it is standard for a deadbeat college student not to give a fuck. My main problem was when I threw my trash into the trash can, like most people would. Twenty minutes later, while I was browsing all the pretty cards, the worker came up to me to say that the trash can is not for consumables and shoved it back into my hand in the rudest way possible. That being said, I do understand that they don't give a fuck. They're just there to make ends meet and want to continue the banter with the coworker who was allegedly an hour late. To be quite honest, I usually just take rude interactions and move on with my life, because life would be miserable if everyone started pointing fingers. It would just start a game of he said, she said, and I would rather keep the peace, but this experience just has to be heard. It was unprofessional, rude, and lazy. If your staff is more interested in gossiping than serving customers, you have a serious training and management problem at this new location. Realistically, nobody important is going to give a fuck, since people just come and go in most places, but for this experience, I just thought I'd let my thoughts be heard. All that being said, the products were great, just the workers there were not the greatest. I guess if you Wana just window shop or just enter and not be bothered it's the perfect place for you. The store is clean and well-organized, with a great variety of items to browse through--definitely fun to look around. However, a major downside is that many items don't have price tags, so you'll often need to track down an employee just to find out how much something costs. I picked up two blind boxes during my visit. While the selection was nice, I wouldn't recommend buying them here. They were priced at $20 each, but the same ones are available online at Amazon or Target for around $14. That's about a 43% markup, which feels steep for the exact same product. If you're just looking to window shop or kill some time, it's a nice place. But for actual purchases--especially for anything you can find online--you're better off checking prices first. read more

Went to check, not even to buy anything, just to check the price of a Spider-Man Spectacular Bundle. It's listed at $22 market on TCGplayer, and they were charging $55 for it. When I mentioned the price on TCGplayer they responded with "It shouldn't be that cheap, must be an error" and I immediately walked out. I was not about to pay 2.5x the market price for some cards that'd fill out my collection. Despite the fact I hate waiting for TCGplayer and haven't had a great experience with them overall, I'd much rather go through them than support a business that seems to scalp and price gouge. Too bad they are the only physical shop I have found that sells Pokemon AND yugioh singles. It's really annoying to have to hunt down staff for pricing, which they seem annoyed to help you. If you get any of the guys they're super rude and condescending. Zero people skills and bad hygiene they truly embody the bad stereotypes of gamers. They need to turn on the AC. The store is HOT, I'm not sure not how the temperature and humidity affect the singles, but I do notice singles we buy there tend to warp faster than from other shops. The prices? Scalper level. There was a grandma and some kids ahead of me in line, and there was a confusion where the lady at the pokemon counter mistakenly quoted a booster bundle at $25 when it was actually $45, but the guy at the cashier honored the mishap and sold it to the kids for $25. My wife and I came in looking for Pokemon singles to buy this past weekend. Owner was very nice and helpful helping find cards we were looking for. The selection was vast and ranged between singles and booster boxes/packs. They also had comics (newer issues) and collectibles figurines. Value is a little over market compared to like TCGPlayer but nothing outrageous. We will definitely be back when we are in the area. read more

I'm not going to lie the store has cool inventory but the staff is rude. The fat guy with glasses automatically assumed I could not afford a card I inquired about and chuckled under his breath. I could easily purchase the charizard v-max and wanted to purchase it to spite him but I'm not going to give this store business. If he's going to make such assumptions I can as well. Disappointing store and associates. I walked in and was asking for the prices of the sets as I know they are difficult to get currently but when I asked for the price of a booster pack at retail the worker checked his phone and proceeded to respond with about 10. I'll admit I could have done a bit of research before wanting to get back into collecting( the last time I collected was when the original pokemon black and white sets were releasing). But come to find out they retail for 5 (pre-tax). Not only this but the worker said it was not likely to get them for retail (spoiler I did in emeryville). I hate that I have to leave this review. I've been a customer for a while. I would often buy here rather than the cheaper prices online because I want the store to stick around as a local card shop. Luckily for me and others, there are quite a few alternatives. I went here the other day with my 6 year old son. I brought 2 MtG cards that I wanted to sell for store credit and then purchase specific cards in their case. Someone before me did that exact thing. After waiting for 30 mins it was finally my turn to be helped. The associate said she won't take store credit for my cards without even looking at them. She said they usually do accept it, but won't do it this specific day. The person before me literally did it though. She said I might have too many cards and I said I only have 2 and would like to see a card from the glass cabinet. Still refused to help me. Ok, no problem I guess you have that right. I started to walk out and she called me back. When I turned around she accused my 6 year old of trying to walk out with a toy we didn't pay for. We bought the toy from a different store and had the bag from that store along with the receipt. At first I was annoyed with the bad service but accusing my kid of stealing made me furious. I'll never be returning and I've been a customer for years. read more

Highway robbery. I am mostly going to rant on their TCG prices BUT, everything else is in this store is overpriced, the board games are at least 10-20% higher then other stores but their TCG prices.... Oh man, they are sometimes double of what they should be. For example went in once looking at some vintage cards, they wanted near mint price for a HEAVY play Library of Alexandria, that's honestly whatever but that trend continues with almost everything in their cases. The worst offender was today, I popped in and saw some Alpha and Beta Rush forests. They wanted near mint/light play price for the Alpha and it was what I would consider a damaged card, at best the beat up side of Heavy Play. The Betas were also way over priced, moderate play going for NM above prices. The only reason I am not giving this place 1 star is bc their customer service can be okish, they have a couple cool/nice guys... but they also have a couple people that have the personality of a 2x4, they never smile and act like they don't want to be there. I was very disappointed as it was my first time to go to this card shop! the place was nice and all but the customer service was terrible. The only guy that was available at that time to help me was named Omar, and he was being very unprofessional. He gave out vibes that he doesn't even want to assist customers cause he let us wait and ignore us till we approach even when we're in front of the cashier already. We asked if we can pick a Pokemon pack to get lucky for pulls but he just walked away while being stern in denying our request. He didn't even face us and keep walking while talking back to us which makes it difficult to hear him. I was hoping to have the girl help us out. But instead, a guy name Omar was pretty rude and did not acknowledge us when we literally went right up front, and he was just checking/pricing the pokemon cards on the computer. He didn't greet us or even ask if we needed help. My partner asked if we can pick the booster packs ourselves, and he was really rude with his tone and just said "unfortunately not," and kept walking away. Never had that kind of customer service to any of the local card shops in the bay area, and I also know owners locally as well. I highly recommend not doing business with Legends at this or any of their other locations. They purposely don't price label their items so they can charge the highest possible price based on tcg player; and if the market price falls, they still quote the highest price. They've often been observed charging prices based on the individual (charging one person a certain price and another person something different; not sure if there's bias involved) I once saw the owner do this to a kid trying to buy a comic to read that was on the floor shelves. He checked the value online and told the kid (prob less than 10 years old) that he couldn't sell the comic. The difference between the price and market value was prob around $15. I felt bad for the kid. I've gone to many game stores and done business with them in the area - but legends has to be the worst. I've heard of missing cards/items after people have turned in items to trade, instances where they sell a card that was part of a trade deal, instances where they overwork their employees for low wages, etc. Also, if your kid is looking to trade in cards to any of their stores, please go with them and look up the values beforehand. They will offer you a percent which I understand, but they purposely try to lowball kids or the elderly and force them to accept a deal. I once saw an older gentlemen trade in a pokemon collection with some charizards in it from his son's collection, and they offered him $20. It felt like I was watching Team Rocket in real life. Maybe this review will be lost in the ether, but hoping it helps someone out there look for a gaming store in the area. Also - all the positive reviews are from friends and family of the store. Theres a reason the rating is 2.3. They have 4 locations that I know of, but that level of "success" or expansion doesn't come without a few skeletons in the closet. read more

This review is a warning to the hobbyists: take your business elsewhere. If you're new to the Bay and looking for an LGS, I assure with the utmost confidence that this city has so much more to offer. If you are so inclined, step in for yourself if you want to experience what bottom of the barrel looks like. tldr: unwelcoming & overpriced. Poor service, tyrannical management. Nothing's changed in two decades. Other Yelpers seem to agree that the staff members can be very rude and in-your-face. (I'm the type that'd gaslight myself into thinking that I was the inconsiderate one; the shared sentiments are reassuring!) I'm asked, what feels like every two minutes, whether I "need help" which I find more distracting than actually helpful. To extend a bit of sympathy, it's nothing personal against the staff, to an extent. I have begrudgingly dealt with the owner in the past, and his morals are very clearly reflected in his hiring practices and are furthermore reproduced within the work culture. Customer inquiries are met with disdain, which I find shocking, considering the lack of depth and experience in the industry. C'mon now, just about anyone can use tcgplayer! Regarding their aftermarket collectibles: their prices are often worse than the online market and the business has no interest in working with you. I've bought/sold/traded collectibles for some time, and while Legends's trade-in procedure is typical of most stores, be prepared for the worst. In the few trade-ins I've done with them over the years, I felt like I've had to outsmart them simply to get a trade I felt was remotely fair. Obtaining collectibles is one of my favorite ways of forming fond memories, and simply don't think that is possible here. Dealing with the business feels uncannily like dealing with a bad ex. I've never offered a handshake to close deal here, and likely never will. Their selection is flashy, but of no real substance. The inventory consists of items either high-end and inaccessible, or new and volatile. It's a tell-tale sign that this is the place where people go for a pump n dump. In my experience, stagnant inventory is an indicator of the health of the community that an LGS homes. If you decide to host weekly game nights here, I wish you the best. To my chagrin, the owner has expanded his business over the decades and now has multiple stores in the Bay Area. Do not confuse this ubiquity with quality. Given the rise of online retail and the rising cost of rent, there has been a dearth of quality game stores for some time. Desperation is not enough to bring me back to this business. The problem is they are severely understaffed every single time. It's a struggle getting someone to help you because the singles counters are swamped. I really wanted to support this local LGS, but very disappointed in how they price gouge products. Even when they get prices at retail, they jack them up as high as possible, significantly above online TCGplayer and eBay prices. Even pre-order material they marked up to over 200% of MSRP if they can get away with it. Sick of distributors giving exclusive access to an LGS and them in turn price gouging their customers. Great selection, horrible service. Spent about 25 minutes in a mostly empty store trying to make a $200+ purchase. Trying to speak to the staff, they would either completely ignore or turn around and walk to the other side of the store to loiter. Not sure if there are social anxieties with the staff, but there needs to be somebody there capable of manning a cash register and interacting. I've been a repeat customer for years, but it's always just been too difficult to buy anything. We walked out last night without a purchase and will never be walking in again, 0/10. read more

I've normally had pleasant visits with the staff at this store, I understand places price things differently and all that. I just recently went maybe a couple weeks ago and found an old Yugioh tcg card that was from like 06'. I saw the price wasn't listed so I asked one of the ladies to price check for me, okay no problem. Until about 10 mins later I still had no gotten any quote on the price check, but she was still at the counter talking to one of the male staffs who was at the computer. Okay me and my girl continued shopping a bit until I see the lady LEAVE the store, uhhh okay what about my price check? I go and ask the dude where she went and he goes "what girl?"
