So just to update you all on the saga that is my cavity fillings, we actually broke the cavity fillings up into three visits since technically they were in three different parts of my mouth (I know, I know). Dr. Michele is just as skilled in speed with filling cavities as her father. I feel like I wait longer for an oil change than it takes for them to fill a cavity here. Dr. Michele takes care to make sure the filling is done well, and suggests that if for any reason it doesn't feel right to come back in to get it shaped better to my bite. The numbing process is pretty quick (though you can do the gas, I prefer not too). The only thing I will mention is that numbing of the bottom jaw does take longer to wear off than the top and you should probably clear your schedule for about 3/4 hours due to debilitated speaking abilities while today's top jaw filling, I went to a meeting less than an hour after with minor speech impediments...though water did dribble out of my mouth at one point. C'est la vie. Another note to be aware of is that insurance may not cover natural colored fillings, so just make sure to ask (which they made sure to inform me about before my procedures). 1 more cavity to go! Okay, Yelpers, these reviews reeally let me down. Being from California and having the same dentist nearly all my life, (I've seen two other dentists that have been fine) I had hoped this would be a one-stop shop after reading reviews, but nah. My first visit was fine, a breeze even. The front desk staff is friendly and pleasant, and the place is clean. I was seen on time and felt okay about how things went. I expressed my complaint as having pain on the lower right side. Xrays showed that that tooth is growing in awkwardly, pushing against the tooth in front of it creating a pocket of sort. The doctor explained how pain works. In a nutshell, he says the pain is likely coming from the top right side because there are two visible problem teeth--it simply FEELS like the bottom. I confirm that I have had some "zings" of pain up there, but most of my pain is on the bottom. I remember specifically saying, "it's weird, it doesn't really feel like the pain associated with having a cavity." It was easy to accept his theory on how pain worked because I knew with certainty it wasn't a cavity. I'm prescribed antibiotics and schedule two extractions for a week later for the top right side, per his medical advice. Upon taking the antibiotics, the pain never stops! Mind you, this isn't my first extraction or infection, so when the pain is still pretty constant, I deduce that there is no infection. The way pain works is probably true, but not applicable. It's the bottom right. Like I said initially. Still in full blown pain. So I go back for the extractions and say I want to have the bottom right extracted instead because the antibiotics didn't work, pain still constant, yaddah yaddah yaddah. He pulls the xrays up again, reads the notes he wrote in my chart and insists we move forward with the two extractions he suggested. This is where I take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for staying. At that point, I should've hightailed it outta there and gone for a second opinion. Instead, I laid back and settled in. :-( Minus One Star for Lack of Attentiveness/Bullying Here's where it gets sticky. I mean bloody. I mean, you get it. I get numbed up with shots and ointment and Doctor Michael Leggio dives right in. The first extraction was a piece of cake. The tooth had fallen out some years back and only needed the remaining tooth to be removed and thoroughly cleaned out. He wasn't the most gentle, but that's nothing I couldn't deal with. Suddenly, painfully, I feel my lip being ripped/split open. He was standing behind me, and I swear he had his hands all over my dang face. My mouth obvi, was wide open, & having his hands positioned that way, caused a tiny, painful laceration from pulling at my teeth one way and my face the other. It hurt when it happened, I definitely felt every bit of the tear, but by the time I got home and started looking, I couldn't see or even feel it. I assumed it was so tiny that it had simply healed already. WRONG. Once the shots wore off, there it was. You had better believe that thing got progressively worse living inside my wet, inner lip. See photo for grossness. Minus One Star for Pain & Suffering Due to Face Damage. On to the second tooth--the doozie apparently. Leggio is doing his job and the inevitable drool arises and starts to trickle. It ran down my chin, down my neck, over my shoulder, and onto my back. That's some rapid moving spit, isn't it? The RDA, Marsha is sitting there doing god knows what. Whatever it was, it must have been more important than chasing saliva. Nonetheless, I give her the benefit of the doubt--maybe this saliva is still clear and not bloodied? Perhaps that's why she hadn't noticed it? My mouth HAD to have been filled up with spit for it to eventually spill over, right? Dah well, I'm numb, maybe not. So I struggle from underneath the bib thing & wipe it myself. In fact, to my surprise, it's up to me to wipe my own drool for the duration of my visit. At this point, I'm absolutely flabbergasted. One, how in the hell is this woman still employed? Two, why in the hell wouldn't Leggio wake her a$$ up? (I shared this experience with my RDA niece and boy was she disgusted) Minus One Star for Negligence/Sleeping On the Job/Acting Like I Aint Sh!t Now here I am, three weeks + hundreds of dollars later and what do ya know? My gums surrounding that lower bottom right tooth are now INFLAMED, SWOLLEN, THROBBING & STILL IN PAIN. So swollen that it hits the top teeth when I chew. I've found myself literally holding my mouth slightly open--there's no such thing as having a comfortably closed mouth at this point. ugh. Minus One Star for Time & Money Wasted + Problem Unresolved. Final Answer: I went in for a service, and that service was provided. The experience, tho, was a nightmare. Also note, if I wasn't such a team player, I would've had my phone out despite the signage and captured a dirty mouthwash cup. Another win for dear old Marsha. Stay away, guys. read more

Summary: Leggio Dental Group mishandled a cavity filling, and I had severe tooth pain for months. I had 3 followup appointments with their office to try to fix the pain, and each time was told to simply wait. I suffered a year of dental pain, with no help from Leggio Group, untli eventually I moved away and a different dentist removed the tooth. Details: I went in for a cavity filling in 2013 with Dr. Michael Leggio. Two fillings were done, and on one of them, Dr. Leggio must have drilled into the part of the tooth that has nerves and sensitivity, because after that appointment I was extremely sensitive to temperature. He initially told me I should wait out the sensitivity. I waited. A month or two later, I made an appointment because the sensitivity was getting worse. At that appointment he said it looked fine, and told me to wait longer. I wanted another 1-2 months, and went in again. Same answer. I told him I thought something was wrong with the tooth. He told me that he "stood by his work" and I was sent away again. All told I went in around 3 times, and always got the same canned response. No tests performed, no referrals given. By this time we were 5-6 months out, I think his judgment as a dentist should have told him this wasn't a matter of waiting it out. Maybe he thought I was exaggerating the pain, or that this was a problem beyond his skillset, or he stubbornly believed in "his own work". Either of these possibilities warrants a 1 star review. That year, I had trouble eating food. I couldn't drink water without ensuring it was body temperature. I lost weight. The pain steadily got worse. Eventually it was a throbbing/pulsing pain across one side of my head that lasted even when I didn't eat. Eventually, I moved away, and another dentist performed a root canal. For the first time in a year, the pain was gone and I almost cried with relief. To Dr. Michael Leggio, I owe a year of debilitating tooth pain. He didn't take my expressions of pain & concern seriously, never gave me a referral to a specialist, never performed tests or offered any explanation for what could possibly be wrong, and always "stood by his work." read more

IF YOU HAVE A DENTAL EMERGENCY IN NEW ORLEANS..THERE IS SIMPLY NO OTHER PLACE TO GO THAN THE LEGGIO DENTAL GROUP!!! I was visiting New Orleans from out of state when I shattered a tooth! Ouch big time! I went on Yelp to find a local dentist and because of the rave reviews for this third generation family dental practice, I had to give them a call. I don't think I could ever have imagined one day writing a great review for a dental practice, but these guys are phenomenal and to not give them credit would be a moral sin. Not only did they get me into the office three hours after I called, but they were genuinely concerned that I not ruin my vacation (and eating all the great New Orleans food) and made immediate accommodations to treat me. Dr. Ronald Leggio saw me within five minutes of my arrival. After a quick x-ray, he gently numbed my gums and sat with me while the anesthetic took hold. He told me of all the secret treasures of New Orleans, told me the best places to eat, where to get "snowballs"...a frozen delicacy you can only get here...and then had his assistant go on the internet to give me reviews and directions to all the best dining and sightseeing the city had to offer. Once I was numb, he said, let's take a look...and while I was waiting for the pain of an extraction..he simply said with a big southern smile..".we're done. It's out!" I had no idea he was even pulling the tooth. It took 15 seconds and I did not feel a thing!! Kimberly, the receptionist handed me the bill and I thought there was a big mistake. The whole emergency appointment, the x-rays, the consultation, the extraction, and the prescriptions cost...are you sitting down? $125. I have had routine checkups that cost three times that in California. You simply must visit Dr. Leggio and his charming staff if you have need of a dentist in the city of New Orleans. Dr. Leggio and his helpful, professional, staff were exactly what I needed. I first got a teeth cleaning with them, and when that went well I returned for two crowns I needed. Being 100% financially independent without insurance, is the worst! A CBD dentist told me it would be close to $400for an extraction!! This dentist did the extraction for.....wait for it....$150!!! I am beyond glad that I switched to this dentist!! Not only were they SUPER sweet, but when I started crying (because I'm a baby) they calmed me down and really made me feel comfortable!! I have been going here for 6 years, and the care there is "Top-Notch"! A nice house on Magazine St. with parking in the back. Love this place! I just got another extraction there today, and once again it was a really pleasant experience. All the staff are incredibly nice and efficient . I have been to many dentists in my time, and never had I felt more taken care of for such a reasonable price! Very disappointed by my experience here. I got hit in the head with the x-ray machine, sprayed with water, and got a UV light shined in my eyes as the dental assistant was wearing special goggles to protect hers! Very unprofessional. My veneer fell off and they re-cemented it, and it fell off again less than a month later! They kindly re-cemented it for free (as they should have) and then it fell off again 2 weeks later. I decided to go to a different dentist nearby after that, this was about 2 months ago, and my tooth has been fine. I don't know why they were unable to successfully cement a tooth. read more

Leggio Sr. even called me back on a Super Bowl Sunday when I broke a tooth! This is a simple straight forward dental clinic- no fancy cosmetics(to my knowledge anyway), no grills, no whistles and bells. Just sound dental advice and services at an affordable price-I had my crown done a few years ago, and various fillings and repairs as well. They will NOT try to sell you what you do not need. Had a molar that has basically been falling apart for a long time, but put it off due to not having insurance. Finally searched Yelp for an affordable dentist, which landed me in Dr. Leggio's chair. He and his staff were all very friendly and I felt as comfortable as one can be while having a stubborn rotten tooth yanked. Ended up needing stitches, so the whole thing came to $200. But when I mentioned my lack of insurance, he knocked it down to $150. Insurance or not, I have found my dentist for as long as I live in New Orleans. read more

New to Nola, I chose this dentist office because they were in my insurance plan, near my house and had a positive Yelp review. I am very nervous and scared of dentists and really did not want to go - but desperately needed some dental work. Dr. Michael Leggio could not have been more gentle, non-judgemental and wonderful with me. He has a plan to fix my dental issues that began with taking out wisdom teeth. Dr. Leggio (and staff) are the reason I continue to come back. I've had my third extraction with Leggio after having an emergency exam at another dental office (who shall remain nameless, because I work for the medical sector of the company) and the hygienist told me "well we can try to pull your tooth out but if I'm not successful than I'll have to refer you to an oral surgeon) WHATTTT? No confidence at all. On top of that, he was quite petite so I didn't think he could pull it off either . I opted to wait for Leggio's next available which was in a few days. Worth the wait! I really wanted to love this dentist. I was not a fan of my previous one so I called the Leggio people and they fit me right in. I new I had a cavity that needed to be filled in on my lower left and needed a basic cleaning. They set up both appointments back to back and I was really happy about that. When I got to Leggio the staff was so nice. They did my cleaning first then took me to another room to do my filling. Dr. Leggio was extremely nice and patient with me (I had jaw surgery so my jaw locks up on me). It wasn't too painful and I was done within 45 minutes. HOWEVER- six months later I was still experiencing the sensitivity in my lower left jaw so I went to get X-rays to see if there was an infection in my jaw from surgery but it turns out that it was DECAY UNDER MY FILLING. Apparently Dr. Leggio did not remove all of the cavity before he filled it and the seal was not all the way flushed to the rest of the tooth. So I had to have another dentist remove the filling and re-drill the cavity. And to make matters worse my other dentist said the FILLING WAS LIKE WHAT SHE USED IN SCHOOL- it was like putty instead of the granite hard material they usually use. I really wanted to love this dentist. The people where so friendly and the dentist was nice and straightforward. However after paying for his cavity filling then another $500 to fix his mistake I am pissed off and will never be back here again. So if you need to get your teeth clean I would say go for it- if you need anything more serious done go with fair warning. read more

Admittedly, I am a huge wimp with a low threshold for pain and Dr. Leggio always provides a 100% pain-free experience. A huge plus for someone like me. Came here based on the recommendation of Yelp and a few classmates. I had a great experience! I had an issue with my insurance, but the front desk staff, Lindsay (sp?) was SUPER helpful and worked really hard to help me out. Prices are very reasonable even if you have to pay cash - I believe it's $150 for x-ray and cleaning. Even with my whole insurance debacle, I was still in & out of the office within an hour. I had a dental emergency after not being to a dentist for 7 years. I called Leggio Dental panicked on a Saturday evening and left a message since they were closed discussing my emergency. I squealed in disgust and the hygienist giggled when I asked him where his gloves were. His response: "I'll just be in your mouth for a second." Disgusting. My mother had broken a tooth and needed to go to a dentist. She was avoiding going because of the lack of insurance and the high cost of extractions. We called several dentists but they all wanted $250 or more. Well I happened to find Dr.Leggio on yelp and read so many great reviews. We decided to give him a try. To our pleasant surprise it was more affordable than we had anticipated. The extraction took less then 20 minutes and only cost us $100!! Really great experience with this dentist! He knows his stuff and will not make you do any unnecessary work. I had previously gone to a dentist who wanted me to have three fillings done immediately. Dr. Leggio looked at the X-rays and said they were precavities, which may not need to be filled for years, and that there was no point in filling them now. He is an honest man with a great bedside manner. He also gave me a great price for a night guard for grinding my teeth. Several dentists had told me it would be $450 for a bite plate, and Dr. Leggio's only cost $150 and works great! I highly highly recommend him!! read more
