Brought our youth group kids here last night, and they all had a great time! This is an older bowling alley, and occasionally the lanes get stuck, but it is well run and very family friendly. Legion bowl is clean and the employees are super helpful. In addition to Bowling, there are also pool tables and lots of video games so the kids have plenty to do here. You can also order food from The Pub on Park, which is next-door and they will bring it to your Lane. Great time and we will definitely bring our kids back here for another youth group event.! read more

I'm all for vintage, but this alley is pretty busted up and very dirty. Does not look like any surfaces have been wiped down. The lanes themselves are extremely rough in shape. I'm shocked they have auto-scoring here. Extremely stuffy and hot inside. No moving air. My chair I was sitting in was falling apart inward on itself...I would not recommend bowling here. I've only been duckpin bowling once in my life and I've never seen one that was fully automatic scoring. This place is in really good condition for having the original ball returns and was told they're slowly modernizing everything. Had the opportunity to come right when it opened up. It's always nice having a bowling alley to yourself. For a Sunday the music they played was like any bowling alley, all the hits pre 2000 it seemed Haha. I think that's a requirement for any alley regardless of type. Ample amounts if billiards tables and a pub too, which we did not get to try BUT the place is very spacious. read more

Walking into Legion Bowl is like being transported to another decade. . . the decor is quite dated but in my opinion, it only adds to the atmosphere. To the left are 18 lanes for duck pin bowling, straight ahead a small arcade, and to the right billiards and a pub. As the place was basically empty when we got there, most heads turned to look our direction. . . only adding to the feeling that we were entering an alternate universe in another time frame. So. . . on a Friday night out, a group of four of us were able to enjoy as much bowling as we wanted for a very decent price! We opted to bowl for an unrestricted amount of time and pay at the end. They also advertise deals such as 2 hours of bowling with shoe rental included for only $9.99 a person. Not bad!! We basically had the place to ourselves. It was rock and bowl style with dimmed lights, a disco ball, and glowing lights. A projector played top 40 music with videos against the far wall. Just a few other lanes were being used, meaning we had our choice of lanes, weren't bothered by young crowds dropped off for the night, and had space to move around amongst the seating. We were able to enjoy Sam Adams pitchers from the bar while we attempted to figure out how to score our own games (no electronic scoring here!, pencil and paper grids are provided). Staff was helpful with this, as I assume its something they encounter often. Traditional scoring is better than electronic in some ways, as it allows for practice shots and easy correction of mishaps like bowling out of turn. Not everything was perfect (not that I'd expect it to be). . . the light at our scoring table didn't work and had one episode when our lane's machinery wouldn't reset when the button was pushed. It was fixed within minutes and we were able to continue bowling on our original lane in short time. They turned the lane on next to us so we could keep bowling while they looked into the problem. I would certainly return here in the future for the atmosphere, the staff, and for a decent night out bowling on a Friday. read more

We were first ones there..ordered food.. two hours later, no food.. owner says listen.. the guy in the kitchen doesn't know what he's doing...whadda ya want from me.. was sarcastic/rude.. says if you come here you know we're better than this!! A wonderful bowling alley with 19 lanes, tons of arcade games, and billiards. My family and I have been a few times, and have always had a blast. Their prices are reasonable, staff is helpful, and the venue is very family friendly. It was a heck of a time to visit family back in Rhode Island... We flew in from Las Vegas to reminisce of our childhood at the same time. This place is great, there's pool on the far right for the adults, arcade for the kids to earn tickets and then there's good ol' family favorite Duckinpin bowling as the main thing to do. We grabbed two fountain drinks for $6. Ask about their specials on bowling. We played for an hour and a half! Great clean family fun here and there's a bar next door that has karaoke on some nights and there's wicked awesome bands that play 80's and more! read more

Dump. Ripoff. My advice: find another place to bowl! I was in here recently with my family on a Sunday afternoon. I grew up in Cranston and bowled here many times previously, but not in the last 10 years or so. First, even for a run down bowling alley, this place is run down. It's also pretty filthy...dirty floor, dirty glasses, used food dishes, litter, etc. We waited a short time for an available lane, then got shoes and paid for two games, thinking it would probably take just over an hour to bowl both (based on recent experience at other alleys). The total was $50...on the high end for any alley, even a good one. We were assigned lane #10, which had a malfunctioning pin setting machine. It was dropping pins, missing pins, not resetting correctly repeatedly. We had to have the (unhelpful) attendant reset it more than once. It ended turning a single game into more than an hour. It was really kind of a joke how badly the equipment worked. Even the ball return was kind of broken, dumping a ball into the adjoining lane one time. I would be surprised if other lanes didn't have similar problems--the machinery is obviously old and not well-maintained. After this fiasco, we quit after having been there more then 1 1/2 hours. We turned in our shoes. I asked the attendant for a refund on the 2nd game, quite reasonable given the awful experience and conditions of our first game. I was informed he "could not refund the game". Why? It's a credit card transaction...just refund some money. It would common practice to refund something that could not be used, especially since our first game was so bad. I also asked for a credit to use in the future, also "can't do that". We were never told no refunds, nor is there anything indicating that. Don't patronize this place. Don't reward their shady business practices. Don't contract something communicable from the filth. read more

Love LOVE love this little gem. at about $20/lane/4-6ppl this is a steal of a deal. Duck-pin bowling. arcade area. bar. live band. done + done. the place is really a little run down-- but HELLO it is OLD + precious. go to dave + busters if you want something shiny. Parking is a little hard but you can find something on the street. This was my second time here + had a blast. Saturday nights is rocken' bowl. Great time. Ya gotta keep your own scores though-- everyone needs to practice their addition! I reserved lanes ahead of time + spoke to the owner + his wife who were just lovely. I was hosting a winter field trip day for 20 students ranging from the ages of 3-13. With students so small, duckpin bowling was the option I was aiming for. Legion Bowl was a great option. They were a pleasure to speak with on the phone, opened up early for us to bowl, the group rate was within our price range, and any question or need we had while there was taken care of. The scoring is manual, but this added a fun component for some of the older students and kept them involved in the game. For our younger students, there was plenty of space for them to move around and get their energy out. We had a wonderful time and will keep them in mind for the future! read more

I appreciate Legion making an effort to keep duckpin bowling alive, but they need to try harder because this place is a mess. You and a friend can bowl 2 hours for $20, shoes included, so it's a cheap date. But the lanes and equipment are so poorly maintained that making it through even an hour is a chore. The lanes had boards sticking up in certain parts and don't look like they've been oiled anytime in the past decade. We had to move lanes twice during our recent visit (because the ball return stopped working) and even then we still had to press reset after every frame. Everyone else there was doing the same thing. For food & drink, there's a snackbar inside and an attached full-service bar, but we gave up on getting served anything because the guy running the place couldn't figure out how much to charge us for a pitcher of beer. I feel sorry for anyone who bought the recent Groupon -- it's like asking 4 people to have a bad time. This place would have make a major upgrade for me to consider ever going back. read more

I dont like duckpin bowling, but compared to other bowling places this one is eh... The last time I was there the service was terrible. They seemed like they didnt care about anything. The prices for pool were ridiculous, and the tables were old and gross. The pool balls and cues were old and worn. When it comes to actual bowling its not bad. I hate how they dont have automatic scoring (no one knows how to do it right) and its always a ghost town in there except for league nights.. Let me be fair, I have never come here to bowl so I am not sure how accurate of a review I can provide. Legion is normally where I end up on Thursday nights after dancing. They have a nice little bar area and do karaoke. I always have a good time even if the shots are god awful, there is always beer. I hear the bowling is cheap ...? Legion is a good time. WOW What a Great Change! I recently stopped in to Legion Bowl and Billiards on a Biz trip back home and couldn't believe the great job Marshall and John have done updating and renovating the place. They have managed to keep 18 of the lanes and have added a new arcade which was a total blast. They still have all the great pool tables and have updated the whole place but managed to keep the style and charm we all know and love. The bar has been completely redone and they even changed the name! No more Legion Pub, now it is The Pub on Park. They did an outstanding job with the pub, changing to a real English-Style pub. They put in new everything as far as I could tell. New Floor, great decor and a huge mahogany bar. They have a great new menu and serve lots of great food in the pub now along with all the beer on tap you can drink :-) I was speaking with Marshall and he showed me all the changes they had made and investments they made into the building and machinery. He also told me they have free live bands on the weekends along with special student nights and family nights which is so great for those of us on a budget. The prices were so good on student night, it almost made me want to go back to college... almost lol. Bottom line on the place is FUN and AFFORDABLE! It was nice to go in a place, have a blast for a couple of hours and still have most of my money left! read more

I came here for a work get together. The area is the best, but there is plenty of on and off street parking. I was happily surprised at the size, amount of pool tables and the pub at the end of the bowling alley. It made for a really fun time for people of all ages. They even let us bring our own food, which was really convenient. It was towards the middle of the day on a Wednesday, so there wasn't anyone else there. Whoa! I can't believe I've never reviewed Legion Bowl... or Legion "Pub". First off, the pub: It is small and old and inexpensive. You will meet an assortment of blue-collar Cranstonians here, usually all smiles. This is one of the places I like to pop into when I'm thirsty, but looking for something a little more low-key and a little less "young"- not to say there are never young people here. Next up, the arcade. This arcade rules. For about $5.00 you can entertain yourself and a date for at least a 1/2 hour. There is skee ball, pinball, racing games, and sometimes there's even a photo booth. On slower afternoons/ nights, the bartenders will let you bring your drinks into the arcade. Third stop, of course, is the bowling alley itself. It's duckpin bowling. Inexpensive, easy, and fun. Pop in on a Friday night and you might be surprised to find a really great blues band playing in the pub. Don't miss this spot when you feel like switching it up a bit! read more

As a sporadic bowler (every six months or so), I don't have a favorite alley in RI. I keep hoping we'll get a Kings a la Legacy Place sometime soon and so far, no luck. Legion Bowl is a stark contrast to the "luxury" bowling alley I have been searching for and I couldn't be happier we found this hidden gem. From the moment we walked in, an older couple running the alley (the owners) were extremely courteous and gracious (as well as adorable). We walked over to the separate but connected bar to right and ordered some draft beers. For a place as unassuming as this, they had quite the selection at very reasonable prices with a jovial bar keep serving them. As we walked over to our lane, it was clear that keeping score would get some taking used to and, to be honest, I was really happy to challenge my brain just a bit in our technology driven age. Counting the pins yourself, remembering to re-set, and arguing over just what a spare actually meant was seriously a blast. Maybe I'm not doing it justice but being transported back to my childhood was so much fun. We had two hours on the lanes but were encouraged to finish our game we were halfway through with when we went a bit over. We returned our shoes and went straight down memory lane, getting quarters to play the air hockey table and whack a few moles on games that must have come from a now defunct Dream Machine. We collected our meager ticket earnings (practice makes perfect and we were very out of practice), and headed to the prize counter, scoring invisible ink, Chinese finger traps, warheads, and then some. Again, the owners were right there laughing with us as we played with our toys. All in all, a fantastic bowling experience. If you're looking to do something a little out of the ordinary and reconnect to your 10th birthday self, look no further. Wow, wow, wow. Who knew that time travel was perfected in Cranston? The bowling system and music warps you into different time periods. This is duckpin bowling where the pins are smaller, with short, stubby, pear shaped figures that bulge out toward the bottom like a fine set of apple bottoms. The balls are grapefruit sized, made out of stone or granite and can comfortably fit into an average sized hand. Seems like something Rip Van Winkle would have played with. That's it. Just go ahead and knock em down. It's way more fun and easier on your wrists than regular bowling. Here's where it gets interesting. There's no automated scoreboard and the only place to sit is a metal table that came out of a jail cell or the 60's Sears catalog. The alleys have a manual reset button that has to be pushed after every turn. Then a victorian style gate swings to knock pins over and you begin again. EPLIEPSY ALERT: If this isn't enough, there's a disco ball and strobe lights that intermittently flash as you play. The music in the background is remixed radio hits from nothing later than 2004. The trippy experience is well worth it for anyone. Oh and they have family guy pinball. That alone is worth at least 20 quarters. read more

This is place is a great little place to visit with the family. I went on a school vacation day and it was busy but not insane. The staff was very friendly and offered us a bumper lane since I was with my 2 young kids. Prices are reasonable as well it was $7 for an hour of bowling with shoes included. Horrible! Rude staff with watered down fruit punch in a small $5 pitcher for the kids. Hot as hell because it is 87 outside. The kids could not take the heat for long. We asked for a pizza and never received one until we were ready to leave...then the pizza was mentioned again. It cost 40 dollars for 4 of us to bowl for an hour...but I realized I forgot to use my online coupon. Showed the staff after 3 mins of cashing out...and was told next time. I would never complain about the nostalgic feel of this place. I would just suggest to go elsewhere because of the rude staff amongst several other issues. Giving this place two stars because the pizza was good and the groupon was cheap. Other than that, nothing great to report. Ceiling has extensive water damage and is leaking rapidly above a few lanes. Many lanes quit working halfway throughout the game - the reset button wouldn't work. We are from out of state, and whenever we come to visit my brother in college, we make this a MUST. The staff is wonderfully friendly, and the atmosphere is awesome, vintage and retro. There is also billiards and an arcade. If you've never been duck-pin bowling, you've got to try it and this place gives the authentic experience. First off I'd like to say that I signed up solely to leave this review, and it's been a week since I went there. I'm still kinda pissed at the business ethics this guy has. So anyways, the venue. There is a pretty pathetic arcade, ancient duckpin lanes, and maybe 15 pool tables. The lanes are very poorly lit, and seriously look like they had never been oiled ever. Oh, and did I mention it's duckpin? The floorboards on my old house build in the late 1800s looked better than these lanes. I'm making that up it was built like like 1950 but still. The arcade is dismal, but the pool tables are actually pretty good. Service is a joke, and the old guy running it is a scam who has no idea what he's doing. Picture the kid from your high school that you were certain was going to go absolutely nowhere in life. That was this guy. Very impolite and I'm pretty sure he hadn't passed a math class in his life. But here's our story. We went there to go bowling since there was a 1 hour wait at AMF Bowling around the corner. Walked in and there were two other people there at the arcade, nobody bowling in their dimly lit lanes, and no music or anything. Creepily silent. We didn't want to bowl duckpin (especially on those rotting lanes) so we settled on pool. Guy told us $12 for an hour, gave us our pool balls and let us loose. We played our games, tables were acceptable and had an ok time. So these other guys walk in, they went up to the counter and the guy sent him to us to use our balls instead of giving them their own set. We had been playing for 55 minutes and just finished up our last game anyway so we let them have it. It was awkward that he didn't just give them their own set but what the hell, our hour was up. Anyways, we go to pay the guy and he tells us that we can't cash out without returning our balls. We're pretty confused at this point and go back to grab our pool balls from the guys who already started their game with them. So they're pissed off but we brought them back to the counter and the guy charged us $13. Said we were 5 minutes late returning the balls so he was gonna charge us $1 extra. At this point we had to ask if he was serious and then pointed out that he had caused the situation that took us 5 minutes over. After he didn't budge we just gave him $13 and pointed out that you can't be scamming people over if you're barely making any business because they won't be coming back. I booked a 12th birthday party at $9.25/child which was supposed to be 1/2 an hour of bowling - with bumpers, 1/2 an hour of billiards and an hour for food/cake/etc. When we arrived, there weren't any tables set-up and we were told we weren't doing billiards at all - only bowling with no bumpers for an hour. For only $6/child, Meadowbrook Lanes in Warwick offers one game of bowling with bumpers and use of the space for another hour. Legion Bowl in Cranston is over-priced, under staffed, and sadly in need of updating. read more

Wow. Just went for the first time and it was terrible! I like that it had an "old fashion" feel, but my friends and I had to switch our lane three times because something would happen and prevent us from bowling. The workers were extremely rude about helping us and we're just rude in general. I actually heard one of them get mad at one of the kids because they didn't have enough tickets to purchase something and he literally told the child to get out of here...who works around children and talks like that to them?!
