During a road trip, we stopped in Chippewa Falls to visit the Leinenkugel Brewery, well known for its fruity beers (peach was our fave)! The brewery dates back to 1867, and several of the original buildings remain in use, giving the property a distinctly historic feel. Although we chose not to join a tour--having visited many breweries both domestically and internationally--we enjoyed walking the grounds and appreciating the preserved architecture. A tasting flight of six 5 oz pours is $15, with a two-flight option available for $25, making it easy to sample a wide range of their offerings. They also have some in house special beers. The visitor center also features an extensive merchandise selection along with exhibits highlighting the brewery's history. For those interested in both brewing and heritage, it's worth spending about an hour exploring the site.

This place is historic, having been around for 150-plus years. There are old brick buildings, new brick buildings, an awesome brewery with an awesome tour. A barn and stables. A huge chair, gardens, patio, giant gift shop and the fantastic Leinie Lodge. There is the Leinenkugel family history and of course, the tasty beer! What more could you ask for? Well, for one, you could ask their corporate owners to keep the brewery open. In November 2024, they announced closure of the brewery. Could the closure be retribution for the employee strike not too long ago? Sad.

I read in the news yesterday (11/6/24) that Leinenkugel was going to close what sounds like this location in Chippewa Falls as well as another in Milwaukee. A separate location in Chippewa Falls would remain open however. The closure is expected in January of 2025. This brewery is a macro brewery and is therefore not even close to being a mom and pop, small business owned brewery and with closure if breweries of this size I kind of shrug off as opposed to feeling disappointed that somebody's dream of making craft beer and serving it to the public fell through but this closure is further indication of a shift in the consumer market and how beer drinking just doesn't have the same popularity it had prior to the Covid pandemic. With all of that said Leinenkugel was on my list of breweries to try and I indeed did. Steve and I had their Berry Weiss, which was a fruited Berliner Weisse beer. I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did for a corporate beer since almost always I am not too terribly impressed. It was by no means stellar mind you but solid enough. Flavor features with this particular beer are sweet, fruity, tart and strong. The berries that are at play here are blackberries, elderberries and loganberries which are all indigenous to Wisconsin. Being made aware of this kind of made the concept with this beer a little bit more interesting. Leinenkugel has a wide variety of different beers from lagers, shandy and sours.

The Leinenkugal Brewery is a little out of our way from our usual road trips from Wisconsin to the twin cities, but if there is ever a nice day it's hard to not take our dog and sit on the patio! The patio is pretty large with some shady spots and some sunny spots! There is a large parking lot and some overflow parking and street parking. There is a nice bar window outside open to the patio so it's nice and easy to get a beer from there. I love that they do mixes of their beers to create more options to make it fun! I really enjoyed the cherry lemonade! The inside is also huge and there is so much merchandise and seating inside. The inside is a cabin/lodge feel and I love that about it.

I haven't had the pleasure of visiting Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, home of Leinenkugel's Brewing Company for 155 years. I am sure the factory tour and tasting of their superlative beer would be worth the time and cost of traveling from Pennsylvania, but to date, I have to be satisfied with the simple pleasure of drinking their exceptional fermentations. Last week while in Wellsboro, I stopped at a local beer distributor and found a bottle of Red Lager on display and available for purchase by the case. I am happily familiar with Summer Shandy, Juicy Peach and Berry Weiss, and have sampled the Octoberfest and Original Beer. All wonderful to imbibe either with friends or alone. Jacob Leinenkugel was an immigrant from Germany and brought his beer recipes with him to the new world. He certainly made the USA a better place with his creations and attention to tradition. Their list of products is extensive, from IPAs to Bocks to Spritzens and Helles; both year rounds and seasonals. You can even buy them in variety packs (as I have on many occasions). They are all well crafted and delicious - the colder the better. So until I make it to Wisconsin and visit Leinie Lodge to indulge in all that goodness, visits to our local distributors to buy whatever Leinenkugel's I can find will have to do. That case of Red Lager should get us through the next month or so, and then the search will resume for the best local source of this august curated refreshment.

We took a day trip (Memorial Day). It is about 2 hours from home so an easy drive. It was well worth it. Super beautiful grounds. Nice clean store. Bought a few goodies. We enjoyed a flight and found our new favorite, pink lemonade- summer shandy and berry Weiss. Loved walking around the grounds and taking lots of pics. A fun and gorgeous day. I also appreciated that they are still asking people to wear a mask when not drinking. Even tho people act like 'covid is over' it's still nice to see a place still taking precautions. Will def be back!

We did not participate in the tour we paid for on 7-29-23 because we did not feel comfortable crossing the picket line we encountered upon our arrival. We interacted with several picketers and decided not to cross their picket line. I am very disappointed that Leinenkugel opted to not reveal workers have been on strike since 7-10-23 during the online booking process. I will be requesting a full refund of my payment. Truth must not be a part of Leinenkugel's business practices. We were traveling from Virginia and thought this would be an interesting activity in light of my FORMER like for their beers.

Had a blast visiting this place. We took a flight out to check this place then go back home. It was worth it. We liked the tour, the great shop and every beer they had to offer. We bought plenty of souvenirs in the gift shop too. I wish they'd sell more of the beer on the west coast. We only gets the shandys for some reason. We need the Original and the Light bad.

    The partial beer list

Just flew in from Arizona and came upon this place . They have great beers and good food. I I had the nachos and my wife had a chicken salad . The chicken salad came with lots of chicken and they weren't skimping on my nachos either. The picture says it all. They have great beer also. I had the Sweet baby Jesus which was a chocolate peanut butter beer. Wow it was unbelieveable. I also had the berry wise It was great to. If you're in Baltimore you need to try this place out. If not for the food, then the beer.

Absolutely phenomenal! Our tour guide was excellent. Had a lot of fun shopping and drinking beer in the lodge.

I love visiting breweries and trying out local offerings. Lazy Monk was on my list of places to visit based on just the name alone, but their current beer list was looking pretty good, too. Tim and I (Matt was coming up the next day) dropped in around early dinner time and it was fairly quiet in the brewery. There were a few people chatting with the bartender when we went up to order some drinks. First and foremost, I grabbed a sticker and magnet before I would inevitably forget. I grabbed a flight of beers since a lot of them sounded really good. Unfortunately, the one beer I was really hyped to try was out until the next day. That was the kolsch. I ended up getting the Bohemian Pilsner Lager, Raspberry Lemon Shandy, Kristall Weiss, Mad Monk IPA, and Bohemian Dark Lager. The Mad Monk was really good. It was my favorite. The Kristall and Bohemian Pilsner Lager were really good, too. The Raspberry Lemon was good but not really my cup of beer. I got it to sample since I was taking home a 4-pack for Emily. As for the Dark Lager... not a fan at all. Not that it was gross but it just isn't for me. The bartender was super cool and took the time to explain all the beers I ordered, made great small talk and really made us feel welcome. Lazy Monk really leans into the German/Bohemian aspect. The exterior of the building has some strong German vibes and once you walk inside, it really feels like you walked into a bar in the middle of a small German town. I believe there is also an outdoor seating area but we only saw it while we were out walking around. If you find yourself in Eau Claire and want a really chill place to grab some beer, Lazy Monk is the place to go.

They will fill a growler for you, but it's not very economical, better just to buy the cans. They have all their own beer on tap now and root beer on tap plus a few cans of soda and bottled water. No food here but you can bring in anything you like and eat it inside. Nice meals, occasionally have some special events and live music, you have to check their social media for those updates. They have a Mug club for regulars. Always great service from personable bartenders. They really know the regulars. Occasionally you'll catch the owner slinging beer too. No TV or jukebox so you can actually have a conversation. The acoustics can make it a little echoey at times however, especially if there's a lot of people inside.
