What a lovely ambiance! Inside and out- we ate on the terrace and there were flowers and privacy from street, a gentle breeze. Our waiter Alex, was top notch!! Attentive, friendly with a good sense of humor. The food was delicious (my French husband is a foodie - tough customer. And I am a 'plain Jane', picky-ish eater and we both found many options on the menu. The gazpacho (a little spicy in a good way) and small green salad were both perfectly seasoned, and my husband was happy with his fish soup and magret de canard. I happened to be in the area and wanted French food for lunch. I didn't expect it to have a Michelin recommendation! I also saw the poster written by the friends of the architect, Luc Laporte. They had impressive words to say about him. Reservations: probably recommended to make reservations ahead of time, but I was able to walk in on a weekday around noon without one. The place looked like it was getting full by 13:00. Service: our server was great with providing recommendations and noting what are popular dishes. He explained that the beef cheeks is a winter dish. Unfortunately we didn't get to try it. Fantastic French bistro. Went for brunch on the recommendation of a sommelier in Toronto who I trust and it was one of the most authentic meals I ever had. I ordered the boudin (blood sausage) maison and while I never had it before, it felt so traditionally French it was perfect. A very rich and complex sausage, great complex flavors covered in an equally excellent cider sauce. It was great and I was also VERY impressed with the home made jam (both tropical and berry) that came with toast, I normally do not eat bread, I ate both slices and both Jams. I still have pleasant memories trying out Quebecois French cuisine at this establishment. The very last meal for Montreal trip between me and my gals. Our waitress was such a great host to our night out. Giving her a list of everything we wished to order and each one of us ordering the duck confit, she suggested the Macon red wine bottle to pair it. Usually dry wines aren't my style but her suggestion made our meal spectacular and complete. Sometimes I do miss tasting savory French cuisine from Europe, but I was happy Montreal in Quebec in general had the same satisfaction in taste, texture, and reasonable portions. The crème brûlée was custardy under that delicate glasslike layer of caramelized sugar. The salmon tartare had the right umami and creaminess. Duck confit was lightly cooked and crisp, not heavy on the oils and gravy. This place was a gem on a Sunday evening and still full of life. Swank joint in a swank neighborhood. We did brunch here which was most excellent. While the inside is sleek and unique, designed by a well know local architect, the patio is sweet. Service quick and kind. We had the delicious menu favorite, eggs/salmon/caviar on blinis which could use a bit more caviar, and the eggs/sausage/ duck beans. The beans were the hit of brunch! I just celebrated my birthday here. Because of the reviews, I ordered the scallops instead of the steak. I was happy my son got the hanger steak and my other son got the roasted duck breast. The hanger steak was perfection! Perfect mid rare, tender and well-seasoned. Duck was beautifully cooked. We had a blast! Server was wonderful. Crème brulee was nice. My first time eating here and I loved the experience, I just found the food just ok. The service, the menu, the restaurant itself, everything is great and contributes to the dining out experience but I think I ordered the wrong thing because I found the food a bit lacking. The steak was a bit tough and the fries quite ordinary. The tartare was delicious but the julienne fries again were just ok. The creme brule was slightly too burnt so the crust was a bit too bitter for my taste. This restaurant is still excellent and I will give it another chance in the future. read more

Made reservations for a group of 10 and we all had a great time! The servers were kind and patient with our group. Lovely restaurant with a large variety of entree options from fish to meats, as well as an extensive wine menu. The food was all very delicious! I personally had the Icelandic Wild Cod and it was beautifully moist and paired very nicely with the potato purée. My partner and I went on vacation to Montreal and came here for my birthday dinner. I really wanted some great French food and Leméac did not disappoint! We got the escargot and duck fois gras for appetizers and shared the rack of lamb ribs for the main meal. Everything was delicious!! For two people sharing, it was the perfect amount, although we did snack a little bit that afternoon (: the fois gras was delicious and rich and served with bread and pineapple (sounds weird, but paired surprisingly well). It was our first time having escargot and it was delish! It comes in a pasta with a really yummy green sauce. The lamb was also great, we were trying to figure out what spices were on it so we could try to recreate it at home lol. The sides with the lamb were also very tasty. The server was very nice and recommended a great bottle of white wine that was refreshing and didn't break the bank. We sat outside on the patio and it was very nice! This was a nice French spot with an enclosed (and actually warm) patio section and great service. The menu was huge and included an impressive variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options. The escargot and squid rings were both well cooked. The escargot was definitely a more creative dish, with basil foam, whereas the calamari was essentially just grilled with balsamic. Filet minion was a generously thick cut. My only disappointment was the drinks; wine pours were quite skimpy and cocktails were weak as well. Went with two coworkers at ~5:45 on a Tuesday with a reservation. Any later without a reservation and we would not have been seated - they were packed. The space was pleasant and not too noisy considering how busy they were. Our waiter was excellent. He gave us time to drink our cocktails before ordering dinner and didn't try to upsell us on dessert (we still ordered more than we needed). Everything we had was tasty. I had the dernier mot, a gin-based cocktail with lime. The beef cheeks were tender and flavorful. Everything was amazing; we ordered the mussels with a lobster soup, salmon tartare, and the chocolate tart with ginger ice cream. The mussels were incredible -- the best mussels I've ever had. On top of that they gave such a LARGE portion. It doubled the typical mussel portion. The broth was buttery with a really savory flavor. The mussels so fresh and great. Lobster soup was divine, it was a cold milk soup with small bits of lobster. Salmon tartare was nice and creamy and you could tell the fish was also incredibly fresh. Leméac's food is always consistently good and the service is great despite it always being packed and busy. Price is on the higher side compared to other French restaurants of similar quality (in my opinion). I've tried the beef tartare with matchstick fries, salmon tartare (prepared the classic way as well as the truffle variation), crab cakes, pan seared scallops with fingerling potatoes and mujjol caviar, foie gras, braised beef (bourguignonne style) as well as the smoked herring salad. I like ordering beef and salmon tartare at most restaurants I go to (if it's an option) and theirs definitely doesn't disappoint. Though for the price point, the portion is on the smaller side. I loved the matchstick fries with the beef tartare as well, though they were so thin that it was hard to eat in an elegant manner (lol). Leméac remains one of my favourite local lunch/dinner spots. I went there earlier this week for lunch with a mixed group (ages and tastes). As always, everyone had a wonderful meal and it was quick, without feeling rushed, which is perfect for a weekday lunch. THE FOOD My father had the mushroom risotto. It was cooked to perfection. The Arborio was firm, but not hard, and the mushrooms were cooked just long enough to bring out all of that earthy flavour. My friend's mom had a modified chicken Caesar salad. The chicken is not pre-cooked, so expect to wait about 20 minutes if you order this dish. It's worth the wait! The best part is that since everything is made to order, you can get it the way you want it. We got it "sans lardons". My friend ordered the vegan dish: portobello miso and steamed veggies. Yum! I had my usual salmon tartare. It's one of my favourite things to have for lunch, and Leméac makes it two ways: classic or truffle. I had the truffle. Have the truffle! THE SERVICE It's clear that Leméac treats their staff well. As a result, service is top notch. Friendly, attentive Maître D takes you to your table, and whenever possible offers you a choice within your preferred section. We chose the terrasse. The wait staff probably share gratuities because anyone who notices that you may need assistance comes to your service. We were never kept waiting and everyone was helpful, professional, and attentive without feeling intrusive or cold. THE AMBIANCE We had beautiful weather, so we chose to enjoy outdoor seating. It is covered and shielded from street noise by a lovely trellis and hedge. It's also less noisy than the dining room, which can be a bit loud when it is busy. We dined at Lemeac last week while in Montreal and had an excellent dinner in this busy French bistro. Our server, Kevin, was fantastic! We were a table of 4 and everyone ordered starters... Arugula & Fennel salads, crab cakes & I ordered the Panko crusted goat cheese, apple and walnut salad which was so good I could have ordered another and been good for the night! After a week of fine dining, my hubby opted for the Mediterranean fish soup to go with his salad and he felt it was the perfect amount of food. Our mains included the Mushroom Ravioli and 2 orders of the Mussels with pots of fries. The mussel serving was ENORMOUS! My friend and I could have easily split the dish with plenty of mussels for our husbands to share, too. For dessert we split the Lemon curd tart and the Chocolate tart with ginger ice cream. Yum! Our friends are wine lovers and he was very impressed with the extensive wine selection. I don't drink but everyone else seemed to enjoy the bottle chosen immensely! J'ai notamment pris un gâteau de crabe en entrée qui était très bon. Pour le plat, un choix très français, un boudin fait maison. C'était délicieux. Au dessert des profiteroles, ça termine bien le souper et clairement après ça on a l'estomac bien rempli.
