I clearly explained my situation--that I didn't want to put money into the car, just wanted a price. The guy insisted he needed to see it, saying it could be something else. Thinking it might be a minor issue, I brought it in. All he did was check the transmission fluid level and scan for codes--both things that require no special shop skills. Then he told me I needed a brand-new transmission, not a rebuilt one. The kicker? He charged me $175 for doing almost nothing. If you're planning to have your transmission replaced, maybe they're fine for that. But for me, their customer service is a zero. I checked my own fluid and code scans are free at AutoZone--though I never had a check engine light, so no codes would have shown anyway. To make matters worse, they also charged me for a part I requested a refund for, which was never replaced, and they never refunded me. Terrible way to do business.

I called AAMCO in Horsham on a Friday to schedule my transmission repair and arrange financing. On Monday I spoke to someone who said they would send the financing application via email and help me arrange a tow. I never heard back. I left atleast four messages. The following Friday I stopped in at 8:00 AM (scheduled open time) but no one was there. Unbelievable no one answered the phone, returned my calls or even bothered to show up to open the shop. Makes me wonder if they are in business anymore. If they are, it won't be for long. Hwy guys -- Answer the phone. Return your calls. And, show up to open the shop. What a joke. I decided to take my business to AAMCO in Feasterville instead.

I should've known it's a jeep. My jeep is a 2006 with 133,000 miles on it. I am the only owner. They found the rust, made a few phone calls, and had the rust repaired and welded PROPERLY all while I was traveling and did not need the vehicle for a few days. They also completed the inspection, tail lights, brakes and rotors, along with a few other minor repairs by the time I returned. My jeep runs great and smoother then it has in a while! While I do much of my own basic maintenance and troubleshooting, I'm terrified of transmissions…read more After bringing my 2005 domestic pickup truck to the "five-letter" nationwide transmission franchise for an estimate, they kept it for two days, and stated it would be over $2000 and require a complete overhaul. I inspected some parts of the transmission to determine they did nothing to open it up or diagnose the problem, other than scanning trouble codes. In search of a second opinion, I called Cottman and the service manager Scott happily spent 20 minutes on the phone with me asking questions to give me a more accurate picture of what the problem might be, and what the costs could be. A few weeks later I visited the shop on my way home from work (20 minutes before they closed) and Scott took the time to take a 30-minute test drive, plug in the diagnostic, and troubleshoot the matter. He said that there was a much smaller issue related to the transmission fluid temperature and said he could get the work done in under a day. I arranged for an appointment a few days later. Scott and Beth were happy to arrange drop-off/pick-up service to my office a few miles away. I couldn't be happier with their honesty, efficiency, and experience. In this day and age, even though I'm mechanically inclined, it's tough to find a skilled mechanic you can trust. I will confidently refer my friends, family, and professional contacts to Cottman knowing they will be in good hands with Beth and Scott at the helm.
