There are a few benches scattered about which are in good shape and the park does provide evening lighting. Skate boarding and such are not allowed at the park and there's no playground equipment. There is a parking lot and street parking available. The park is adjacent to the historic Lee House and Parsonage Museum.

The park has a nice grass area for dog play, but dogs must remain on a leash. There is volley ball court, basket ball court, a playground with equipment, picnic tables that can be reserved for events, restrooms, tennis or pickle ball court, plenty of shaded areas, and a bike rack to lock up your bikes. I liked that the grass area was very well maintained, but the parking area had several pieces of trash lying around. It is said that people just drop their trash when there are public trash cans in sight. At any rate, this is a very nice community park.

I've been coming to Chollas Lake for decades, and I'm still amazed at how many San Diegans don't know it exists. I recently toured a home nearby, and even the realtor had no idea this lake was here. That's a shame because this is one of Southeast San Diego's hidden treasures. This can be a destination for dramatic views & sunsets. There's even several entrances. Each gate time open and closure is different. I walk here to give my thoughts to the trees, practice walking meditation, and simply soak in the peaceful surroundings. The eucalyptus, the water, the sunshine, and the open space have a calming effect that's hard to describe until you experience it. The best trails aren't always the famous ones. The recent renovations are fantastic. The trails are clearly marked, easy to follow, and nearly impossible to get lost on. They're gentle on the knees, stroller friendly, and accessible for many wheelchairs depending on the type. While most of the route is relatively flat, there are a few hill inclines if you're looking to elevate your heart rate. If you're new to hiking, Chollas Lake is also a great place to build confidence before tackling more challenging trails. There's a visible waking loop and other short dirt trails that weave through native shrubs, giving you a taste of hiking without committing to rugged terrain. There are shaded sections throughout, with only a few sunny stretches if you choose the longer route. Restrooms are available at the entrance, portable toilets are located around the lake, and additional restrooms are near the baseball fields. There's a playground for children, plenty of space to ride a bike. Fishing has always been a favorite activity here. One thing I've always appreciated is how well people care for this park. Visitors generally clean up after their pets, and the lake remains one of the most peaceful places to time with nature. Whether you're having a bday party, holding hands, training for bigger hikes, pushing a stroller, riding a bike, casting a fishing line, or simply looking for a peaceful place to think, Chollas Lake has a way of making everyone feel welcome. And to everyone who visits, remember that the ducks call this place home. Please enjoy them from a distance and treat the wildlife with the respect they deserve. I think there is space for a small bounce house. Lately, it's gotten popular and the park etiquette is lower. People leave trash when there are bins available, play loud and inappropriate music (lots of cursing, vulgar language during our last visit), smoking weed (last visit). It was very crowded and more adults or teens than young children around. Overall, still like this park option due to proximity to home, bathrooms available, water fountain available, ice cream truck visits routinely and depending on the day/time it's not too many people. The kids always play nice and my daughter makes new friends each visit.

The park consists of two acres and offers all new playground equipment and exercise stations. The park has E.V. charging stations, restrooms with drinking fountains, and well shaded picnic tables with trashed cans and recycling containers as well. It has a small lawn area and small outside theater for presentation and such. According to the county's website, the park is open from 9:30 am to 7 pm. There's a small parking lot available and street parking as well.

Reasons we love this park…read more Completely fenced in! This is not to say that we or anyone shouldn't watch their children and use the fence as a form of supervision, but when you have a super active child who wants to explore everything and a baby, it is nice to give your older child a little space to explore and know that if you don't have them on a tight lease they won't get hit by a car. The area over all is pretty clean and there is a decent amount of shade. So-So The structures (one for smaller/younger children and a bigger one for the older kids) are average. Nothing super special. Someone wrote a hate word on one of the structures. I'm not sure if it has been removed yet or not. Negatives The bathrooms/porta pottys, are on the other side of the fence and there is not a way to get to them. All the college kids park right out front and tend to park super close to other cars making it difficult to move. *******The city workers are the worst. There are multiple signs there they say to "LEAVE THE GATE CLOSED". Clearly the city doesn't care if you can read or not to have this job nor do you need to follow simple directions. On a number of occasions they just stroll in and leave it open. Thank goodness people keep an eye on their kids but seriously. There are signs there for a reason! The city needs to hire people who can read!
