Took my mom here because she had gone their previously but at another location and said the food was great. It is BYOB and they have naturally squeezed house juices. The portions are large. Kind of family style. The place is comfortable. A guy came in to do some singing with a very loud loudspeaker right by us. It was kind of annoying. The service was amazing. Our server was great very attentive and on point. The food was OK I asked for my skirt steak medium, and it was well done. The food was very flavorful though. The rice chafer was Ok. Normally I order through door dash all the time but the one time I order. I got arroz chaufa de pollo with out the onion thing they put in it and they have placed it on both order I have gotten. And the chorro ala chalaca got completely forgotten and when they told me told me they would give me another I said not spicy and came so spicy I couldn't eat it. Tonight was a night I didn't feel like cooking, but wanted comfort food. Lena Y Carbon did not disappoint! This was my second time ordering from them since moving back to Newark. I ordered the Tacu tacu con bistek. The portion was enough for 2 meals, minus the side salad. I had gotten a small. It did include the criollo (red onion salad) but I wanted a full salad. The side of maduros were some of the best I've had. I miss my usual Peruvian spot in Little Neck, NY - Lima 33, but this was a great meal, and I didn't have to go anywhere! Terrible experience. I was charged $10 more than what my bill was supposed to be. I ordered the ceviche and the fried fish. Both items in the menu where shown as $14 and $19 dollars but I was surprised to see that my bill looked like $20 and $24. When I asked the waitress about it she said that I was given the "pricier fish" which didn't make sense at all. Really good Peruvian food! I was craving ceviche and decided to give this place a try. It was delicious, well packed, and perfect temperature. We got tostones, chicken chaufa, ceviche, and of course papa a la hauncaina. Everything was really good. I would recommend.
