I'm an out-of-towner, and snagged a last-minute appointment with "any therapist" and was lucky to be assigned Isabella. I'm a 55 year-old female who gets regular massages for the over-50 aches and pains. She asked me if I had any areas of concern and then got down to it. She has a lot of confidence and used quick, medium + pressure strokes. It felt like a massage and a half. About 5 min in, she asked if the pressure was ok. I said it was good but that in a couple of places it was intense. She encouraged me to breathe through those wince-y areas. I'm sure she felt tight fascia when she felt through the sheet at the massage's onset. She spent quality time on my forearms, wrists and hands which I appreciated. She did my feet excellently. As someone who knows a LOT about massage therapy and human anatomy, I would rate my experience here "okay", but there were certain dealbreakers that would make me never come back again. I am hoping my review can help them improve and get better. Pros: 1) Rooms and sheets are clean and hygienic. 2) My calves are feeling looser. Cons: 1) The two massage therapists did not introduce themselves to me or my partner, and did not even know our names. In the massage therapy field, this is poor professionalism. 2) They did not perform any intake or interview. They wanted to start working without inquiring about what we wanted to focus on, and completely ignored asking about our health or injury history. This type of negligence not only worsens the quality of a massage session, but also increases the risk of injury. I had to stop my massage therapist from starting so that I can explain my needs. When both my partner and I specified what areas we wanted to work on, both therapists seemed confused. 3) Major dealbreaker: My massage therapist brushed against my genitals maybe 4-5 times. I knew it was not sexual in any way, however, this is a mistake that should NEVER happen during a massage performed by any therapist licensed in New York State. The draping around my genitals was also poor; the draping came off easily and made it easy for her to brush her hand against my underwear between my thighs. 4) I requested a Deep Tissue massage. Instead, I received what I would describe a Swedish style massage with quick movements but with more depth. In contrast, Deep Tissue is supposed to be slow and deep. 5) My massage therapist did not have a good understanding of anatomy, which made me wonder if she was licensed. In NY state, a solid foundation in muscle anatomy is a MUST for licensure. For example, I requested work on my piriformis while lying face down, and she said that we will work on it when I am face up. The problem? The piriformis is a muscle in your buttock. You can only work on it when a client is face down. After I pointed to my piriformis, she then proceeded to work on my hip/buttock area in random spots, completely missing my piriformis muscle. For any massage therapist, this is a VERY important muscle to know, as it contributes to a lot of back pain and can also cause sciatica. I am surprised that a massage therapist at an establishment that also does physical therapy had no idea how to find or release this muscle. 6) Twice, my massage therapist tried to work on a ligament, and both times I had to stop her. For those who don't know: Massaging ligaments is dangerous, as it can stretch out the ligaments and cause joint instability. You should only have your muscles and tendons massaged, NOT ligaments. My partner also received a stretch that was dangerous for his shoulder. Overall, I would not recommend this place. There are so many more qualified massage therapists in NYC! read more

So for reference. 5 stars would be like Great Jones Spa. Bought a Groupon for an emergency 60 minute deep tissue massage I needed badly. Got it yesterday, made my appointment for a few hours later. Easy making an appointment. I got there and they got me in at my time. They were very nice. You know, sometimes using a Groupon you get an attitude. Not here. They are not fancy but they are also not a Chi Gong place. They are a legit massage therapy/physical therapy center. Judith was my massage therapist. She was very good. She asked me what I needed and if I have injuries etc before we started. She made sure the pressure was not too strong or too weak. She knew what she was doing. When we were done. I went to the front desk kinda waiting for them to offer me a tip envelope but they didn't. She just said "Ok you're all paid. Thanks for coming!" I said, wait I wanna tip Judith. I had taken the day off work, arrived promptly at 10 am, and the office was closed. According to the sign, 10 am is when they should be open, so I hung around another 10 minutes and left a voicemail. Recently went here for a massage - I had purchased a coupon for $49. Nice clean place, technician was tiny but had strong hands. I love having massages, so I am no "newbie". However, at this session - I was brutalized. I am not exaggerating. I ended up having bruises up and down both sides by my armpits later that evening. I was 50 shades of purple. I was told she had to work out the knots. I complained repeatedly but she ignored me. Taking deep long breaths was of no relief. I was so tense from the session, I think I was worse off afterwards. I am accustomed to feeling like gumby after a great one. On a positive note, she did work on my abdominal area which I requested. I thought I would go back, but after icing & being sore for several days I decided once was more than enough. P.S. I haven't gotten my massage yet but I purchased a groupon for a one hour massage. A couple of weeks ago I tried calling to schedule an appointment and the receptionist told me to call back the day before the massage because if she used my groupon code now and for some reason I had to change my appointment, I would lose the groupon. So I called back the day before and was told that the entire following day was booked and that I would have to come another day. My groupon is now expiring next week and I tried again today to make an appointment for Saturday. The receptionist again told me that you cannot make an appointment and that they don't do appointments. Then she said they are completely booked for Saturday. When I asked how they are booked if they don't accept appointments she dodged the question. She told me to call again the day before the massage to book it. This feels just like what happened last time. I would never buy anything from them again. Scheduling this massage has been way more stressful than it's worth and it seems I may have wasted my money on a groupon that will expire before they will schedule me to use it. read more

I thought the people here were nice. The place was clean, also, with clean bathrooms. Usually, I get massages at a place farther uptown (New You Again), but I thought what could I lose with a $49 Groupon for an hour massage? (BTW, I planned to tip on the full-listed amount, and did so. Therapist looked surprised.) My massage felt cookie-cutterish. Meaning, no special attention was paid to my more troublesome areas. Also, I spent the entire hour on my front (at New You Again, you flip over half way through). The head rest was uncomfortable, and ratcheted down by itself a couple of times during the session. The therapist only giggled. The third time it tipped, now 45 degrees down from the plane of the table, she fixed it a bit. It's no fun being naked and your plight the source of amusement. I got kneaded, but I spent a lot of the time wondering when the massaging would begin. And when things finished, and I got up stiffly from lying on my front with my arms in uncomfortable positions (the table seemed narrow, so if I put my arms at my sides, I had to hold them in. That's not relaxing. So I let them dangle forward and down). The worst part was that my face had red patches from lying face-down on the head rest for an hour, and the area around my eyes had wrinkles pressed into it. Sadly, I didn't leave feeling like I had a massage. I don't want to destroy anyone's business; and I see Lenox Hill Massage has gotten some good reviews. So, before you decide on going here, see if you find some more reviews. Maybe I just had bad luck. read more

Scheduling an appointment was super easy, I called to inquire then emailed to follow up and confirm date/time and voucher info! Once we arrived (which was about 5 minutes late), they made us fill out some basic info paperwork and asked if were using health insurance - but since they had Groupon on my file, not sure why they mentioned it. The whole massage itself (for me, at least) was quite weak - but a few times, she did make an effort to put extra pressure on!! They are CHEATERS! . They have a board sign right outside their office-door which says 1st time visitors are charged $75, and their website currently says, "All 60 min. massage treatments are $95(down from $110). This was my first visit. They charged me $110!!! When I brought this to the notice of the receptionist, she said because I paid part of my payment with Groupon-cash, I wasn't eligible for the same. Gropuon has a policy which allows use of the amount paid for the coupon, as even after the offer expires. This means that although you might lose the promotional value, you can still redeem the coupon for a discount on your total bill. Think about an expired Groupon deal as a prepayment on future services. Mine was expired, so I used it as $65 Groupon-cash and rest with my credit card. I could have used this coupon any other time. Why did she not tell me this at the time of payment? Then I called Lenox's owner Eugene, he gave me another story. He said that the board was used as a street sign but they don't offer that price anymore. How am I, as a first time visitor, supposed to know that, and why are they using it? Anyway, bottom line. Its not about $20-$30, but I feel cheated. I won't go there ever again! AVOID them!!! read more

I went for a 'PT evaluation' for my back and knee, and they tried to convince me to get a nerve stimulation on my hands- fully unrelated (I know since I went to PT school). When I told them I wasn't interested and it wasn't at all relevant, I walked out and disposed my agreement. I just received a bill from these frauds which I will of course dispute. Had an amazing experience at the Lenox Hill Massage Studio. Everyone was very warm and friendly and I loved the smell and tranquil feeling right from stepping through the door. Had a couples massage which was amazing! From the setup of the room with candles and music to the rose petals on the bed. The therapists were wonderful. I had Tony and he did a fantastic job working out my knots, super deep tissue massage. The massages were timed great so that we had the same areas worked on at the same time, very cool. Then we had some quiet time to enjoy each other afterwards with some fruits and wine that I brought to make it super romantic. She also took the time after my massage to give me stretching tips so that I would prevent future injuries. Nice place. The staff is friendly, they make sure you're comfortable and talk you through the massage if you're a newbie (Like I was). I was scheduled for a 1pm appointment, but I was running extremely late from the gym, so I called to say I was on my way and I arrived at 1:30pm! Even so, they let me start/finish my massage and those 30minutes we're phenomenal. Sure it's my fault I missed those 30minutes but I basically paid full-price for a half-hour massage. I wish they would have offered to roll it over on my next appointment, which would have probably made me actually schedule the next appointment. But overall, the masseuse was a good-kind of rough and gentle when she needed to be and covered all parts of my body in that small amount of time. So, the massage was good. The techniques used were just right, not too heavy or light. The problem came when there was odd pauses that I couldn't figure out at the beginning. There was no lotion being pumped or music changed. She would stand still for about 30 seconds or so (that's creepy when you're face down half naked in a dark room). Towards the end when I eventually was on my back, I saw a familiar square like glow on the ceiling lights. It was her cellphone, she was texting. The phone was placed in between my feet where I couldn't tell had it not been for the light reflection. She massaged me with her forearm while the other hand replied to whatever important text. I asked her if she had a personal emergency and needed to step out, she said no. She said that she was using the light to see my feet. The room was dimly light and I'm not that dark where you can't see where my body is. She realized I knew and stopped but left the phone on the table in between my legs by my calves. I felt the table vibrate for the remainder of the massage as her texts came through. It's not cool to text while a paying customer is there for your full attention. People are so addicted to their phones that it's gotten out of hand. read more

Alex is amazing. She was able to tell me exactly what was causing my back pain and gave some advice on how to improve it, outside of getting a massage. The reason I'm giving 4 stars is because the lady at the front desk is not the friendliest. She was speaking on her cell in a different language and left a customer standing there waiting to pay. When I went to pay she was arguing, in what I think was Russian, with a guy who was also working behind the reception area. It was very comfortable and ruined my whole experience on the day. But not in the treatment room. It was also a little disorganized between Lifebooker and the front desk but nothing that wasnt handled well. Just be sure to be clear about what you're getting. Wow what a massage they give here. I had a Swedish massage done by Mercede, she's amazing and super nice. I would definitely recommend a massage here. They are very professional and approachable. The location is super clean and fresh. It's a little hard to find, once you're on 78th st, walk between 2nd and 3rd ave, the studio is in a building on the right side, if you're facing 3rd ave. the building has number 261 on it and it's on level C (underground) once you get into the elevator. The only thing is I could hear whomever was in the adjacent room, even though there was peaceful background music. The walls are a little thin I think. I didn't let it disrupt the massage though. I had a bit of a sore neck after the massage because I think she was trying to crack my neck a few times but it wouldn't crack - so maybe be vocal about that, however overall They are very skilled here. My appointment was at 7. They didn't take me in until 7:35. I was put in a room that was set up for a prenatal massage. I had to get dressed again and wait for a new room. I was supposed to receive an hour massage and massage was cut short. When I was done everyone in the office was already gone so I couldn't speak to front desk. If they were that far behind with clients they should have called before 7 and let me know and/or offered for me to reschedule. I did not enjoy the experience at all and it was a waste of my money. Besides the actual massage this has been the worse experience. It seems like because its a groupon massage they really dont value you as a customer. My appointment was for saturday at 11 and no one was there. I waited 20 minutes and finally someone opened. I was told the person was on their way, that was another 15 minutes wait. Then someone else came who i thought was the actual person, and she tells me the person isnt getting there til another 20 minutes. I had another appt so i rescheduled. Honestly i didnt want to go back but then my husband realized somehow they had redeemed my groupon without me getting the massage first. I had no choice but to go on with the massage. When i went back i kept hearing the lady say "shes just a groupon". It really bothered me but i ignored. The massage was suppose to be an hour and was only 45 minutes.
