I had a good expierence, and the only reason I'm not giving five stars is because the pricing on glasses and frames is outrageous. I have VSP insurance, which they started accepting the day I walked in (hayyyy! Go me) I was able to schedule an appointment for the next day and the guy who took care of me was great. My contacts only took 4 or 5 days to arrive, they gave me a trial pair in the meantime and told me if any of my contacts were defective I could come in for a new pair. Good service, fast shipping, and I felt comfortable with my doctor and appointment. The cost of glasses and frames is just insane unless they have a promotion going on. read more

I was here today to update my prescription. This LensCrafters is in a good location, and the store is pretty big, but I find that the actual selection isn't that great. I had to get new glasses today, since my prescription changed, and of course, my lightweight/anti glare lenses were a special order. For some reason it takes 2 weeks! 2weeks for a special order of lenses. Super annoying. The girl that helped me was super nice, I wish I remembered her name, but everyone else ignored me. I was standing at the counter waiting to ask someone a question- there were 3 associates in front of me- it took them over 5 minutes to notice I was there! Then the rush to decide who should be working with me. Nice. So heres to hoping that my sweet sweet frames and I get together before the 2weeks are over. read more

I have always gone to Lenscrafters in various states, so I guess I have no basis for comparison with other eye doctors. But overall I like the chain, and this location is decent. They do have a good selection of eyeglasses and the prices are varied enough that I know I'll be able to find something affordable when its time to get a new pair. They always have my contacts in stock and its only $30 for a box of 6. My husband however has to order his a week in advance and they cost over $100. The service is okay. I've had to wait up to 15 minutes when I had an appointment and about 45 minutes both times I went in for what I called "monster eye". My eye randomly turned bright red but I had no pain and it wasn't pink eye. Both times they made me take all the vision tests and the glaucoma puff at the first appointment and at the follow up, which was annoying but necessary I suppose. The first doctor I saw seemed very competent. She told me I had to wear my glasses for a week and gave me a presciption eye steriod. Since I had just had a full eye exam a month ago she didn't charge me for another. The second time it happened, about a month later, the doctor I saw rushed me through and didn't sem to want to answer my reasonable questions as to how to keep it from happening again. I think the service from the doctors can be hit or miss, but at this point it seems more trouble than it's worth to find another eye doctor. read more

Made an appointment and when we arrived they told us they were running 1 and 1/2 hours behind. But we were not allowed to leave and come back we were to sit there and wait. The excuse was the Dr. had an emergency. It's a optometrist they aren't real doctors, so I'm not buying the emergency. Also they kept texting me about the appointment but not a word about any delay. Got on the phone and made an appointment with America's Best for immediately. Will never go back and will definitely not recommend . read more

Franklin is a great help. He picked out several frames to try, one of which I bought. Not sure how he was able to do that since we just met, but it was great. He's also a wiz with insurance and how the billing works. Great selection. I remove a star, not because of this particular store, but because Lenscrafters doesn't accept my insurance. Boo! Anywho, I have to give Lenscrafters props for their prompt service. It's one thing to need my glasses tightened, I expect that to be quick and easy (and free, nice). It's a whole other story when I break my glasses. And when I say break, I mean snapped clean in half, no way on earth to be repaired. Lucky for me, they still carried the same frames. Unlucky for me, my protection plan and warranty had expired, so I still had to buy the new frames at full price. Still lucky for me, my lenses were perfectly intact and in a matter of minutes, they popped them out of the old ones, into the new ones, and I was out the door. All before my lunch break was over, can't argue with that. Be prepared, you may deal with 2-3 different salespeople when shopping at Lenscrafters. It can be confusing, but at least they were all polite and sympathetic to my plight. read more

I've gone here many times over the last several years. It's a solid 3-stars for me. I'd go elsewhere, but I don't really want to spend any more money. PROS: --Location, just off Diversey so easy access from Brown Line (with a little walk), 76, 36, 22, 8, 151, 156 buses (some closer than others but all within a couple blocks). Extra location pro for me---I live two blocks away. --Ease in getting appointments. You can walk-in and sometimes get one. You can book online for same day. I've never had to wait more than a day or two for an evening or weekend appointment when I randomly walk-in. --Vision Insurance covered. My vision insurance covers my exam, dilation and contact lens fitting---every year. With glasses or contacts, it's pick on, every other year. I always go with glasses because contacts are dirt cheap online. --Fast glasses. My most recent visit (10/09) I got glasses. My frames were a special order and they said a week, but were in within four days. Depending on how busy they are, many frames can be done in an hour. I'm not a "glasses person." I don't know the "it" designers of fun glasses. I like having an up-to-date pair because nothing sucks more than having an eye infection and being blind because my glasses are old. If you are into glasses, then you're probably not a Lenscrafters person. I still found a cute pair (Anne Klein, brown square plastic front with metal sides, $170 for frame). I'm pleased with them. CONS ---Waiting. You wait to get pre-tested by an optician or some tech. (Basic vision, puff test, color blind, peripheral vision, etc.) Then wait for the doctor. Then waiting while eyes dilate (I know this can't be helped as the drops need time to work, but I was ignored while wandering around the main area). Wait for contact lens fitting. Wait when you come back for glasses. None were annoyingly long waits, just a lot of them. ---Employees who push contact lens sales. I'm NOT buying contacts from Lenscrafters, I can find then much cheaper online so stop pushing. When I went two years ago, some swarthy Mediterranean looking employee insisted my insurance would cover them. I said no, it didn't. He said he checked. I foolishly bought a couple boxes--partly to see if I was wrong, and partly to appease him. I was right, he was wrong. My insurance rejected the claim and I had to pay full price. I couldn't return because I had opened the boxes. Never again. Be adamant! And never buy contacts here! (Vision Direct and Contact Lens King are super cheap) ---Pushing more expensive contacts. I used Acuvue 2 for about 5 years. I liked them. Two years ago, I was convinced to upgrade to Acuvue Oasys because my eyes needed more oxygen. BS. The contacts might be better, but they bugged my eyes. I had a huge supply due to a shipping error so I used them for two years. This visit I specifically said that I did not like the Oasys. Yet, the doctor still tried to prescribe them for me. I said NO. She finally went back to my Acuvue 2, but the thing that confused me is she didn't consider any other options. My own research found another Acuvue contact lens--Advance that's priced between Acuvue 2 and Oasys. The doctor said zippo about this one. Nor did she mention other brands. It was a bit annoying. All in all, I get irritated at some things, but not enough to change. I'll be back next time I'm out of contacts and my prescription was expired. read more

I'm a man of a certain age who has been blessed with great vision in a family where everyone wears glasses and/or contacts with pretty strong prescriptions. While my uncorrected vision is still quite good, the slight blurriness, especially while reading, prompted me to make my first eye exam in probably over 20 years. The service was top notch, from the friendly and amusing banter when checking in, to the technician's and optometrist's very informative, easy, and comfortable exams. I returned a week later with my stylish best friend to choose frames, and the service again was amazing. The streak continued when I returned a day later to pick up my cool new Burberry specs. Apparently I have pretty good vision care from my employer, and the Lenscrafters folks on every occassion made sure I was getting the best bang for my buck. Everyone I encountered was very warm and friendly. I'm so happy I chose this location! read more

Customer of 3 years here. This place is consistently egregious, overpriced, and in the business of nickel-and-diming it's customers. I wanted to buy just a 1 month supply of contacts and that small of a quantity was "not available". It magically became available when they found out I was planning to buy elsewhere. They push daily contacts on you even when you claim they're not for you because it's more money in their pockets. Within a few months of getting my prescription, I wanted to switch my contacts from daily to monthly (after being pursuaded to switch to dailies during my eye exam). I wanted the same size and brand. They refused to do so without charging some petty refitting fee that was nearly the cost of another eye exam. Their glasses/lenses are egregiously priced, especially in the day and age of Warby Parker-type models. Mine were $450+ out the door. Bring your business to any of the other dozen eye exam / glasses stores within a square mile. read more

Great experience with my visit to this location. Daniela was wonderful. She took her time, gave some great advice and helped me pick out a perfect pair of glasses. Another plus was the time it took to get my glasses. It was fast and I didn't spend the whole day waiting. I was 5 minutes early for my appointment, but I waited 40 minutes to be seen by a "technician" who set me up with the "pre-screening". Nice girl, but she made mistakes that resulted in my having to re-do some of the pre-screening. Then I waited and waited to see the optometrist, who gave me a decent exam. All of this consumed more than 2 hours in a nearly-empty store. But I finally had my prescription and left with relief. To my amazement, when I took a look at the prescription later, I discovered that it was incomplete (it was for single vision, and I wear progressive lenses for both near- and far-sightedness, and I was tested accordingly.) The technician had not written the optometrist's prescription correctly, and it was for glasses only even though when asked, I had said that I wanted to be examined for both contacts and glasses. So even though I had already spent more than 2 hours there, I had to return the next day to get the prescription written correctly. Of course, I had to wait and wait again. With the exception of one of the staff, everybody treated me as if were just there to annoy them and that somehow I had made a mistake. I'm not a huge fan of any Lenscrafters store, but this one was terrible. They wasted way too much of my time, made way too many mistakes, and treated me with disdain. And the $312 frames I liked at this store are going for $100 on ebay. read more

"We'll call you when your contacts/lenses are ready." Seems like the standard eye doctor visit line. Not here! It's more like you call us to see if it's ready. I ordered contacts and replacement lenses for glasses - I get a call for the contacts about a week after my visit - Good. I followed up about 3 weeks after my visit re: my lenses. Key is that I (me, not them) had to follow up. End result: The lenses have been sitting there for about 1.5 weeks! BAD SERVICE! Another thing to add onto their "great" service: During my visit, I already checked in, filled out the paperwork, and was waiting for a good 10 minutes when I received a phone call. I picked it up and, after realizing what was going on, turned around in my seat and said "I'm right here!" Yeah, they called me asking if I needed to reschedule or will be coming in - um, yeah, I was already there. read more

Read the mixed reviews on LensCrafters and in particular this location. All I can say is my experiences have been pleasant and the staff has been easy to work with and helpful. Can't say enough about Dr Park who I've seen for a few years now. She's always taken the time to answer my questions and explain each step in the exam process. Would agree with other reviews that the store can get super busy and there can be a wait time. Still, that's to be expected with any store in the heart of a major urban, high traffic area. My sense in reading some of the complaints (as well as hearing people first hand in the store over the years) is some folks are just a bit too impatient and demanding. The staff if anything is very accommodating to some high maintenance, yuppy people that tend to live in this neighborhood. Sorry, but just calling it as I see it! I went here because my other place closed. Most every one was nice. But instead of the doctor asking me which one was better (one or two) she kind of told me. Result... my glasses are way too strong and I can not wear them. They also assumed I wanted an up-charge of things for my lenses. (My insurance covers all regular lenses). I was told "I have never heard of insurance covering all costs" well they do. They charged me for some scratch proof thing. These are reading glasses I dont need all the extra. I guess I would just be careful and make sure you communicate what you want so you dont get stuck with random costs. read more

I am 100% done with Lens Crafters for life. There are many other optical shops within walking distance on Clark who actually take their time to get your prescription right. My bad experiences with Lens Crafters go back to April and May, when they botched my glasses prescription twice. I thought maybe this location would be better and contacts would be easier. Nope. All I did here was the contact fitting, and I brought my prior contacts that allow me to see incredibly well. My left eye prescription had been -2.5 for contacts, but Dr. Nikoumanesh decided to give me -2.0 because the (incorrect) eye exam for glasses said that's what it should be (ignoring the astigmatism which requires more correction & the fact I said the Rx was done wrong which I told her verbally). She got me -2.0 and 2.75 which I knew were wrong, but I tried anyway. She wouldn't let me put eye drops in or use any solution ("because it has preservatives") even though this is how I have used contacts for 10+ years. I have dry eyes. This is always how I put in contacts. If I don't do this, I have to take them out after an hour. I have experimented with my own eyes for 10 years. She does not know me. Don't tell me not to put moisturizing drops in. If I didn't have them, I couldn't wear contacts at all. I could have put them in and waited a few minutes so it would not distort my vision. Anyway, I put the -2.0 on and the 2.75 in my other eye, I said "it's blurry - this isn't the right prescription". And this is how that went: Dr. Nikoumanesh: But you're seeing 20/20. Me: Well, just because I can read the bottom line doesn't mean it's 20/20. It's completely blurry. I was basically guessing right. Dr. N: Try to blink. Me: That didn't change anything. Dr. N: Well, you're seeing 20/20 - they're new. Get used to it! Me: Can I at least try 1 prescription level up? Dr. N: No. I said you're seeing 20/20 and this is your prescription. Then she walked out of the room. A few minutes later she started answering calls at the front desk while I was still trying to argue for my proper prescription with one of the technicians (they were nice but there's nothing they can do). I came back 3 days later to ask to ask for the appropriate prescription, making it clear that these were still blurry. By this point, I had another doctor's glasses Rx from elsewhere on Clark (yet another expense) to prove lens crafters had been wrong. They STILL refused to give me a -2.5 lens and said that all they could do was give me -2.25! Again, blurry (surprise). I've had enough. After having 2 wrong prescriptions in a suburban Lens Crafters, and this BS here with an optometrist with this kind of attitude - I am 100% done forever with this company. It's a shame they own nearly every frame and lens out there - so you're forced to do business with them. Dr. Nikoumanesh also falsely stated that my line of contacts is "being phased out" and gave me another brand that feel like rocks in my eye after 2 minutes. Acuvue customer service confirmed my line of contacts are available and the "B" was discontinued, not the "A" which is what I had. So, what was with pushing that new hydraluxe on me when I was happy with what I had? Even if mine are going to be discontinued, it is MY choice if I want to continue it to the end or not. Is Acuvue (Johnson & Johnson) giving them a kickback for pushing their new lenses, because that product is literally the only thing in there not part of the Luxxotica monopoly in the entire store. There was no legitimate reason to force me to change like that - certainly it had nothing to do with the health of my eyes since they have been problem free for the last 4 years. read more

Excellent selection and friendly, helpful staff. This was my first time ever going to LensCrafters and I had a great experience. I went to get two new pairs of glasses and an hour later I left feeling satisfied and happy. I see no reason why I wouldn't go back for additional glasses. I'll share this aside for some context... I am happy with my eye doctor and their practice however I detest the fact that they always try push and sell me so hard on frames and lenses through their "boutique" which is frankly just another way of describing absurdly overpriced frames. After I got blindsided and ended up paying over $1,000 on ONE pair of single vision glasses a few years ago, never again, and I was transparent with them about that. In summation my point is, don't worry about feeling pressured and "up-sold" at LensCrafters for literally the same brands, designers, and quality. Amazing how refreshing that can be. read more

Three stars because I leave there being able to see which is a pretty big plus, and the staff is friendly, beyond that there is a lot to be desired. The wait times are absolutely ridiculous, I can actually close my eyes and visualize the Currency Exchange across the street (down to every word on all its many signs) due to the time I've spent staring at it waiting to be taken care of. I've gone to eye doctors my whole life, and I guess I should realize that a place like lenscrafters is going to be more corporate/impersonal/etc, but the literal service you get just seems lacking in comparison to other places. For all the waiting you do, it seems time spent with a doctor there amounts to all of 5 minutes, with little actual information sharing going on. It also doesn't help that they lose my records every time I go there... But as I said, I can see, and hey, I hear that's important. read more

3.5 Stars I really like this particular LensCrafters location. They have a nice selection of eyeglasses. When I was there recently, they were undergoing a big renovation so there was a lot of dust everywhere, but I know it will look great when it's all done. The optometrist who helped me was nice and speedy. She gave me a few free contact samples, which I really appreciated. The guy helping me pick out my glasses was very personable and helpful but wanted to sell me everything under the sun. I'm sure they're trained to offer all those bells and whistles but when you're only 29, you don't need the back of your eyeballs examined, eyes dilated, insurance, prescription sunglasses, etc.... I'm sure they want their workers to ask all of those questions, but it can get annoying after awhile. read more

Worst eye exam of my life. Exam time: 2 1/2 hours + 1 hour follow up exam. The business plan here does not seem to be very customer friendly. There was only one doctor, and she seemed to be seeing 5 customers at once. I have never waited so long in my life for a simple eye exam. Each step of the exam was followed by a 20-30 minute wait. Very disorganized. After a 20 minute search they realized they did not even have trial lenses in my prescription, which resulted in me having to come back. I spent another hour there just getting my trial lenses a week later. Also, poor selection of men's frames. Bought mine somewhere else. I will say that the staff was very nice, and some of them did actually know what they were doing. They are just stuck in a very disorganized and poorly run business. read more

I bought frames from the store a few years ago. Recently wanted to have the lens replaced, but keep the frames. And the frame is returned with missing screws, and I was told I could not help me at replacing the missing part, or the frames, for anything. Basically, they said I should've just bought new frames. They told me that I could keep the frames and just have new lenses, which is what I did. I feel like I was treated very poorly by them, and I regret getting my lenses there. Very poor and unacceptable customer service. Finally, they would not let me talk to manager, but instead gave me the number for the corporate office. Lets just say that I hated my experience at this location so much that I was compelled to finally get a yelp account just so I could review it... First of all, I've been wearing glasses and contact lenses for over 10 years now and have been going to Lenscrafters in the Chicago suburbs since the start. I've always had great doctors who actually cared about you at all of these locations and took their time with you, but at this location I really felt like cattle being herded through. The doctors rush through the exams and the only thing they seem to care about is selling you the most expensive procedures, contacts, and lenses. I was almost given a prescription for the wrong brand of contact lenses (it was clearly written in my records) and had to actually correct the doctor. Everyone seemed to be rushing through their jobs and no one was attentive at all. It wasn't even busy when I went. I will definitely not be returning here. read more

Chicago Clark Street Location. I damaged the hinge on my temple. I had bought these glasses at this location. I was hoping to have the glasses repaired. The person I spoke with was MARIA. She told me that she did not think the glasses could be repaired. If I agreed to have them try to repair them and there was further damage I would be responsible. I then asked if my lenses would fit a current frame which they had on hand. Maria gave a 50 second perfunctory look at her inventory and said she had nothing that would work. The glasses were repaired at another optician without charge. Over the years my wife and I have bought numerous pairs of glasses here. Really great service and price. The service aspect has washed away especially since they have eliminated fast delivery. Combine that with surly don't care service and they are no better and probably less better than their competition. Too bad read more

Lenscrafters on Clark really came through for me on a day when the eyeglass place that I go to near my apartment was closed. I was brand-new to wearing contacts, and I couldn't get this one lens out of my eye. I was certain that it had gotten wedged under my eyelid, and it hurt a lot! I called Lenscrafters and they had an appointment available that morning. The gal on the phone was really helpful and kind. I received the same courteous, warm reception when I arrived at the store. Even though they knew that I was there only to get this wayward contact lens checked out and not to buy anything, they treated me really well - like a regular customer. Dr. Sonny Parikh was the doctor who examined my eye. I was so impressed by the care and understanding he showed me. He was super thorough examining my eye to see if he could find the contact lens. As it turned out, the lens must have fallen out at some point, and the reason my eye hurt was from all the prodding I'd done. I highly recommend this Lenscrafters store and the doctor who I saw there! read more

So my Mom lives on the South Side and went to Lenscrafters for new glasses. One employee kind of talked her into a pair of glasses but when she went to check out another employee told her "Oh, you can't buy those". She talked her into a different pair. I'll admit, my Mom is extremely picky and pretty indecisive and she certainly should have had someone there with her. Needless to say, when she picked up her glasses she didn't like them. Luckily Lenscrafters has a "60 day guarantee" letting you bring back your glasses for an exchange or a refund. So I was trying to get her to visit me and I told her that there was a Lenscrafters in walking distance (a bribe, not that I needed one). This was perfect because she didn't want to go back to the same Lenscrafters because she "felt bad". Enter the fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable and gay salesperson! Yay! He was awesomely funny, honest, patient, and extremely helpful. She turned in her old (new) "too big" glasses for a sharp new pair that she loves. He remembered us when we went back and she's very happy with her new glasses. They actually fit (measured) her for glasses which the location on the South Side didn't do. Oh, I took her for her first Persian meal at Pars Cove which is right down the block. She loved it! Four stars for the friendliness, lack of pressure, cleanliness, professionalism, and store appearance. One off for the price. I may be biased here because my benefits sufficiently dampened the sticker shock and because a close friend's father is an optical industry magnate, but that is countered by the fact that there is really no place that doesn't mark up. I would compliment each and every one of the staff with whom I worked. Across two visits - one for an exam and contacts, another later for a re-up on the contacts and frames/lenses - everyone was great. From doctors to technicians to salespeople to whomever answered the phone the few time I called in, A+. In particular, I'd recommend going to see Daniella. She had no problem taking a while to ask and answer lots of questions, try on different frames, and follow up with issues afterward. She also has great opinions on how different frames fit. You may wince at some of the prices vs. discount or independent retailers, if you know about them, but if you have good benefits or want a smooth, guaranteed experience, check this place out. read more

First...I want to say the staff has apologized repeatedly about the mix up...which i appreciate...but It's still ridiculous. I had an appointment in February. I ordered contacts and they told me two weeks. Three went by and I called. The staff member said he'd call me back..never did..I call back. Different Staff member ordered my contacts because they weren't ordered before. No big deal they gave me a discount. Another three weeks go by they call to say only one box is in. I call back and they tell me Both boxes are in. I go in to get checked...one box still not in. Needs to be reordered. Another two weeks. Seriously Who is not doing their job? My experience with this Lens Crafters was stress free. The entire staff was attentive, highly professional & ALL were very personable. The exam with the optometrist was quite enlightening & all so stress free. The technician that helped me make a frame style decision was honest with her opinion, & suggested styles & designers I had not considered. I was never alone in a chair for longer than 1 minute. A very well orchestrated staff. My glasses were ready that same day. Past eye ware stores have taken as long as 10 days. Lens Crafters is a 5 star facility. Though nice, they try to up sell you with exams and I got the wool pulled over my eyes on contacts. Usually ordering online I went there December 31 for my exam and then was headed home to order my contacts when they explained they looked up the rebates through them and if I ordered I would get my rebate paperwork in my contacts box in which I would actually get back more then I paid out of pocket. I went with this. Now here the box has arrived, nothing about a rebate. I called and they did not help but just said go online to acuvue. Nothing. Called acuvue and there is no rebate. So now I've completely overpaid and I can't even return them and order from online because that years insurance is over. I wish they would have cared about the people that bring them business and been truthful. read more

I've been doing it for nearly half a century and I still find it one of the most intimidating "have-to-do's" going. Shopping for new glasses. It was bad enough when I had insurance. Now that I don't, I have to be even more careful to insure value take a front seat in the effort. I learned the hard way that when you let price drive the entire show you end up with a pair of Costco glasses that are only fit to act as a doorstop when you have a prescription as heavy as mine. So, after a trip to the dentist, I found myself at the Lenscrafters on Broadway in my 2 ton Costco goggles. I had had a reasonably good experience there before. The store's mainstream enough to be accessible and sleek enough to seem kind of special. They also have a secret weapon: Drew. I don't know why but condescension seems to be a hallmark of a lot of the people in the eyeglass business. Finding somebody so knowledgeable, engaged and helpful in a Lakeview business no less borders a little on the miraculous. After letting me run around the store picking out completely inappropriate frames for myself, Drew very casually said he'd add a few more to choose from and scooped up another handful. His were much better than mine and one pair of frames, the one I eventually chose, was out da' box hot for an old guy like me. Drew volunteered that he liked them too. Standard lacquer black on the outside and red/orange on the inside. Radical and Rayban. Leaving the store, I wondered what the heck I had just done. I work in a fairly conservative office and the red thing had me nervous. I waited two anxious weeks to see if I had made a catastrophic mistake but thankfully, Drew's eye was dead on the money. The glasses are much subtler than I thought, comfortable as a pair of broken in house shoes and "I can see clearly now". All thanks to a cool guy who's great at what he does. read more
