I'm still in shock, 3 hours later. My eye "exam", from the time I left the counter to the moment I was, once again, in front of the counter, was a total of 8 minutes. Eight minutes ! I voiced my displeasure and asked for my bill. I also said that everybody I knew would know about this fiasco of an operation. The clerk hemmed and hawed, then went to speak with somebody. The clerk came back and said that there would be no charge but that they would keep the lens prescription. After letting her know that I wouldn't trust that prescription for two seconds, she again said there'd be no charge. But I reminded her that I had wasted my time and that I was still in shock over an 8 minute "exam". I can't think of anything that could have been worse than this place. read more

Wasted day off, go in and check in they said it would be 39.00 for exam that clearly states on insurance that exam is covered. They say it's because it is remote exam and since it's remote have to do an extra test. I said not my problem exam is free. I'm still in shock at how bad this experience was. I only decided to come here because my usual eye place still won't buy a glaucoma machine. They dilate my eyes every time and I just didn't want to do it again. Came here for the first time, got an exam, and they told me I need progressives. Never worn them before. My order came in and I couldn't wear them. I'm in front of huge monitors all day and this was not going to work. Went back and got reading glasses and driving glasses. Both cost me over $1,000. (why?) The prescription was wrong and my right eye was terribly blurry. They told me my driving glasses are fine. Rep said. "I've been doing this over 30 years, I know what I am talking about." Well, I've had my eyes more than 50 years and I can tell you, my right eye is still blurry when I wear them. I finally go back for a third time and pick up my new reading glass prescription. My right eye is still blurry just like my driving glasses. I specifically said to the guy, my driving glasses are still blurry. No response. I said, I guess I'm stuck with them, right? No response. He just wanted to get rid of me. I'm still in shock how this is normal customer service. I'm out an insurance visit, have two pairs of glasses that are blurry and out $1,000. Be very careful going here. Think I'll go back to getting my eyes dilated. read more

i've been going there for years and years with my MVP insurance getting glasses. All of a sudden they say they have no record of me at all and that they don't take MVP... although I just spoke with MVP and they say LensCrafters is on their list of providers. read more

Ok two stars because they actually did have a frame I really like. But, they charge $128 for an eye exam which is $75 two doors down at Jules Vision... and the exam they are offering you is VIRTUAL not even in person while Jules is all in person So why would you go LensCrafters? I still may go back and get just the frames and then take them to Jules to supply lenses. I sensed maybe the people who work here are just not treated well and need to go elsewhere. Long overdue, but in May of 2023, I returned to Lenscrafters because of the excellent optometrist I'd seen in 2021. At least he had the good sense to move along. I was told shortly beforehand that my appt. would be virtual, which I agreed to, not knowing how that would impact my visit. Turns out, some office assistant does the usual routine tests, and the actual "doctor" is on an IPad! She maneuvered the machine that determines what your prescription should be, and although creepy, I assumed all was well. At the end, I was referred to a second doctor who would do the dilation part of the exam! Apparently the in-office flunkies are not qualified, nor was the virtual "doctor." Because I went out of network, I was not able to dispute the charges, nor would a visit to a second doctor be covered to complete what should have been included the first time around. Oh, and no availability of my records from two years before, because of "system changes." What absolute horseshit! PS The prescription, which obviously I took elsewhere to be filled, was completely off and unusable. I had to wait for 2024 to have a REAL eye exam and prescription. No satisfaction after multiple calls re: records. And yet these idiots still send me email reminders to schedule my next exam!! It'll be a cold day in Hell when that happens!! read more

I had an appointment for the eye exam for Tuesday (in two days) but I'm cancelling because of the really bad reviews and how me and my partner were treated the first time we went in just to see if we could get an exam on the spot. At first the middle aged tech said yes and she took us to seats closer to the back than the ones off the door. We waited. Had spoken to the elderly woman at the desk about insurance and names. etc., she seemed very confused and scatter-brained. A few minutes later I finally asked the middle-aged tech how much longer wed have to wait (apparently someone was getting an exam). The tech told is that "Sometimes the machine doesn't work", implying that was happening in the back. We said we'd call and re-schedule for another day when we could get the exam from the doctor. I called a few days later to schedule with the doctor. The old lady was incredibly rude and snippy. When she asked for my partner's name, I started to say "Glenn...." and she interrupted me in a loud, very desultory tone saying "LAST name first!" She was so rude and disrespectful, I wondered what she was doing at that job. I assumed she was somene's mother, as she looked about 80, seemed confused about the paperwork when we were there, and was condescending and snappish with me on the phone. So glad I read the reviews, I've had enough interaction with this place to know they're all true. Will cancel our appointments. read more

Carmela is wonderful, helpful and a good eye for fashion! Dr Brown is witty smart and instructive. Frames are terrific. Prices, a wee bit high but you get terrific service. For some reason the Rx was incorrect. Folks were beside themselves with grief. No big deal, so they had to redo four pair. Lol. Mistakes happen. They took care of it so fast. This place is wonderful. With a wonderful selection and truly lovely staff and docs. No need to go to a high priced, posh place that is all pretense and no customer service. LensCrafters has 'em beat. One suggestion? Very disappointed in service at this place. I went there yesterday to get my glasses adjusted. I was told to take a seat and that someone would be with me in a few minutes. A few minutes passed (about 10 to 15) and I continued waiting till it was my turn. There was only one other customer when I was there. 2 associates were at the counter answering a call and arranging paperwork. I patiently waited and then asked how long it would be to get my glasses adjusted since the staff seemed to be disappearing and going to the back room and leaving the front unattended except for a greeter. I was told 20 minutes!!!! What does it take to tell a customer it will be a long wait to get an adjustment and perhaps come another time? Common courtesy goes a long way! I will never use these people again!!!! Customer service has a lot to be desired!!!! And overpriced too!!! You do not get what you pay for!!!! read more

I saw Dr Brown and he seems like a good Dr, but only wanted to sell me glasses, not the contacts I just paid to have my eyes measured for. The frames are way overpriced, and who buys frames this way anyway? So I have to wait a week while they order contacts just for my fitting, which they are none too happy about because they realize I know I don't have to buy ANYTHING after I get my exam to get my Rx for contacts or glasses. I go back for a fitting a WEEK later, wear those for a week tell them he Dr no problems but I had wanted a daily from jump and they only provided one pair of a weekly, go back pick up samples another week later and am told to try those however long is "needed" then I will get an Rx, I am going on vacation in a few weeks and they are so slow! I just went back that Monday and had to deal with Dr Brown and his disbelief that I was able to get use to contacts and already knew the brand I wanted. ( I have astigmatism and only a few choices) I used my knowledge of NYS law to get my Rx without paying for anything except the exam. They have almost no contact samples, they will have to order everything, expect to wait a long time to get a proper contact lens fitting, I am talking weeks to months, and a hard sell on overpriced eye wear you can purchase just as easily online at a fraction of the price and will come to your house faster than they can get it to you. (Mine took 24 hrs from an online provider) In short, if you wear glasses and want a hard sell on a pair of frames that cost $100 in their store and cost $9 online, come here. I don't care about 300 dollar plus name brand frames. I wear contacts now anyway! Be prepared to jump though hoops to get that contact Rx and know NYS law, just google rules for the FTC or ask how to get your Rx. Many online companies are happy to help you. At least I found a brand I can live with for 90 days, then I may go elsewhere if I need an Rx tweak. Oh, and a bit of advice to Dr Brown. You need to LISTEN to your patients, sure you sound educated sometimes, but it does no good when the exam feels rushed and then you can't fathom why I want to wear contacts, when you and the entire staff I met wear them ! What do you people wear frames for but to sell them! Also I was given almost no instructions on what eye drops to use, 20 minutes on how to put contacts in total. Probably because I am a foreigner, as they could tell from my accent, this store took advantage of me: I went for a visit, I asked NOT to be signed up for their newsletters, and of course few days later I started being bombarded with emails. Every day I have to unsuscribe myself and the next day I keep receiving emails. So I called the store which suscribed me without my permission and asked for help and the associated hanged up on me twice (the first time even without letting me explain the issue in full, as they kept interrupting me). This is they said they could not do anything. First they do something I did not give them permission to, then they do not give you any help to solve an issue they created, making me waste even more time to fix their poor choices. read more

I liked the staff except for one older male employee who made a transphobic comment to me just because I picked up a frame that was technically a woman's frame but looked exactly like a man's frame except for color. He seemed like he hated me and I did absolutely nothing to him whatsoever. The typical ugly festering homophobic/transphobic phobia reaction you get from isolated rural types. The third time I visited the store he glared at me with an ugly malignant stare. Very nasty attitude and I really only minimally interacted with him, avoiding him from the first insult. I will not be revisiting that particular store location for adjustments etc. In the 21st century businesses really need to weed out the bigots if just for the sake of not losing money. I spent half a grand on glasses there but next time Lenscrafters is out of thew question permanently . read more

They have impressive machines and their work was better than other opticians that I have gone to, but I did have to go back a few times (as I always have to do it seems) to get adjustments because the glasses didn't seem right. They were friendly and responsive. read more

Dr. McKinney was the only reason to come here. He has left. They routinely run 20 - 30 minutes behind. I had to reschedule because of this and when I returned the y did it again without a word of apology and actually gave me attitude after I walked out and called them back to discuss. They say "it'll be a couple of minutes" and leave you waiting for about as long as the whole appointment would take. As if I have nothing better to do with my time. Been a customer for over 10 years. I guess it's kind of weird to review an optician? well, I've done everything else on Yelp and I've had such great service over the years at this Kingston, NY Lenscrafters that I'll go ahead and write one. Having had eye problems for decades now, my entire life, I've had more than enough experiences at optometrists and opticians, and I have to say this Lenscrafters in Kingston is the best. Both doctors, McKinney and Brown have seen me over the past 4 years at various times with various issues and they're both professional, kind, CLEAN (this isn't as usual as one would suppose!), very thorough. If you have questions, they really take the time to thoroughly explain your problems and concerns, in great detail if that's what you wish. I've also been able to make an appointment on very short notice for an emergency and was still treated kindly and with concern, never rushed or talked down to. Then there's the front of house service - these people are terrific. I don't know how Kingston managed to dig up and employ so many great people in one place, but they're all here. Honest opinions, alternative offerings, they take time to make recommendations on how to make the most of my insurance, they're never pushy. I would particularly mention Lance and Bridget, both have a sense of humour while being so very helpful. Lance has repaired my nosepieces on the fly and Bridget took the time to seek out a better case for my sunglasses. Both offer helpful and honest opinions of style and suitability. We no longer neither live nor work anywhere NEAR this Lenscrafters, in fact there's one much closer to us now and driving up there is frankly quite a distance, but I love the attention and service, so it's worth my while and gas money. It's a competitive business and they deserve two thumbs up. read more

You don't get what you pay for. Think you're saving money by going here for glasses? Think again. Most optometrists guarantee their scratch proof coatings for 1 year. Here only 30 days. Glasses got scratch spots all over after a few months and yes I'm careful and always carry them in a case. So now I'm out of luck with glasses with defects to look through. Go to local private optometrists and get the guarantees and attention you deserve. read more

I have to say this business by far has the worse customer service, if one can call it that. Both times I visited I was greeted, if you can call me initiating contact greeting by a middle aged woman, both times I asked for help picking out a frame, both times the woman walked to the frames and stated that she did not know what I liked and that I would be better off picking a few and trying them on. I mean please I asked for help picking a frame isn't that what a technician for? It was not like I was just wasting the woman's time I had already had an eye exam there. Yeah so I went here probably like 2 years ago and had an excellent experiance. I just went last month and it was AWFUL. The staff was almost entirely different so maybe I just picked a bad day? The woman at the desk when I went to check in was on a very obvious personal phone call, talking about her kids and a wedding she went to and "no he did not say that!" and when I walked up to her desk she put her finger in the air as if to tell me to wait one minute. After about 10 minutes of me standing there someone else came out and checked me in. All the while working around this woman on the phone. I watched three other people come in and have the same thing happen. The Dr was great I will say that, but I went to order my contacts and they ended up being double what I was quoted when I called. Whatever, annoying but I need them. They said they would be back in one week. TWO weeks after that I needed new contacts considering the one pair they gave me at the appointment were now expired. I went in to the store and told them I never got a call. The guy gave me a super attitude and even said, "Well that doesn't sound true at all." I was appalled. They ended up only having the ONE eyes contacts even though I paid for both eyes. They told me to take those now and they would call when the other eye came in and that it would only be a week. So now a month and a week after my appointment I am on hold yet again with the store while they try and figure out where this other box of a years worth of contacts is. I've been on the phone 10 minutes so far of silent wait time and I just will honestly never ever ever ever use this location or maybe even lens crafters in general again. Outstanding in every way! I have been to other locations of this large franchise but this one is the best. Dr McKinney is wonderful . He will take the time to discuss your eyes in layman's terms. I can think of a recent time when I had an emergency and the place was swamped . Dr McKinney squeezed me in and as busy and under pressure as he must have been he remained his professional self. The opticians are all wonderful . My favorite who I make sure is there when I have an appointment is Harry. read more

Normally I see dr McKinney but I saw Dr. Brown this time. Very nice. Explained in great detail. He knew I was nervous and by the end of the visit I felt 100% better. Harry is always helpful I have had him help me with glasses in the past as well as this time. The receptionist also was very nice. Love it there.
