I stopped in on a Sunday looking for a pair of glasses. I already had my prescription with me, so didn't need an eye exam, just to purchase the frames and lenses. I was greeted right away by Vineeta. It was my first time getting a pair of glasses (ever) and she very quickly helped confirm my insurance coverage and select multiple frames to try out. The selection is fantastic at LensCrafters with multiple price points available. Vineeta (and my husband) were very patient with me as I figured out what frames felt/look best. With my insurance and coupons I had via my insurance, I felt like the pricing was very reasonable. I was told that it would take 7-10 days for my glasses to arrive, but I got a text on Tuesday night that they were ready! I picked them up on the following Saturday and they fit perfectly. No adjustments were required and the prescription was perfect. If any adjustments need to be made, I can bring them in anytime. I did also opt for the 1 year protection plan ($34.99) since these are my first pair of glasses. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at LensCrafters in purchasing glasses. I can't speak to their eye exams, but highly recommend them for glasses. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKED I entered the store to shop for frames and potentially get my eyes examined out of convenience I was in the area shopping. Nobody bothered to help me for long time until I flagged assistance down and when I did the guy seemed to provide mediocre customer service at best. 1) I had questions about some Burberry frames that were ~$350, overall frames were beautiful and fit my face BUT I need to increase the distance and lift a little as my nose isn't as pointy or big and there were no nose piece and my lashes touch the lenses. HIS RESPONSE "you can go to Amazon and buy those nose pieces". Amazon? Why would I buy $350 frames to add a sticker nose piece that might not even work. Then he said I would have 30 days to return. The right answer would be to seek if they do make adjustments to frames and if no maybe suggest an optometry or glass repair that does. I mean I guess I can try the Amazon hack but that was some weird advice. Another service person walked by and I asked the same question, she referred me to call a place to see if they could assist making the adjustments. 2) The guy came back and I wanted to schedule an appointment. Took about 5-10m to run my insurance. I asked about exams... the comprehensive one (since in the past I've had eye trauma from my motorcycle accident and want to do more than the basics) and he didn't know much about the comorehensive and brought me to the back to get answers. He didn't know about retinal imaging. You work at an optometry place and you don't know about the kinds of exams? You don't have to be an eye doctor but should at least know the basics. Go figure, same guy that told me to go on Amazon and buy sticker nose pads. 3) At that time in store I scheduled my exams. But then maybe 10m I had to cancel because of conflict in my schedule. That same guy said he cancelled it (I was standing next to him) and was told to call back when ready. I asked for a card so I can call back when ready. Days later I got a notification that I missed my appointment. An appointment I cancelled and told the guy to cancel and he confirmed it was cancelled... only to receive notice i missed the appointment. If the front of the house can't get simple things in order... I am not sure how credible they are to do a good thorough eye exam. First time attempting to try out LensCrafters and probs my last. read more

2025 Update: 2 years later and my experience wasn't any better. I won't be returning. After a disappointing experience with Dr. Khalighi, I decided to schedule an appointment with Dr. Wang. I used to go every year to the Clairemont LensCrafters (which is now closed), so you'd think my records would transfer over. Nope. They had no access to my file, so I had to rely on my own notes to determine my existing prescription. During the exam Dr. Wang asked me to put in my own contacts, which was strange because the office typically provides you with a pair during your visit. Apparently this location doesn't carry the lenses I use (even though Clairemont did?). She told me I should've brought my own but that was never communicated to me before my visit. After the exam I had to deal with pushy sales reps. They claimed their contacts were cheaper than Costco (they aren't). read more

Ahh, LensCrafters--what a journey. I went in the other day with my two brothers, Jeffrey and Cyrus, ready to finally buy the Meta Ray-Bans Gen 2. We walk in, all hyped to drop some serious cash, and... nothing. Crickets. We stood there waiting to be helped like background characters in a movie. My friend finally asks one of the workers, and she hits us with, "Someone will be with you shortly." Cool. Except "shortly" apparently means never, because the store was empty--like, ghost-town empty--and we were still standing there. Then a couple walks in, and suddenly one of the workers springs to life like they just remembered they had a job. Runs to help them instantly, while we're just over here wondering if we somehow turned invisible. We left, came back later thinking maybe we'd have better luck--nope. I go up to the lady and say, "I want to buy glasses." She points toward the displays like I'm asking where the bathroom is. I tell her, "No, I want to buy glasses," and she looks at me like I just said I wanted to buy the store. After a couple minutes of her staring at a cabinet like it might give her the answers, she tells me they don't have the ones I wanted. So I just tell her to give me whatever Meta model she's got. I finally bought a pair, but honestly, the attitude, the zero effort, and the Olympic-level ignoring skills were insane. 10/10 product, 0/10 customer service. read more

My overall experience at this LensCrafters location was adequate--most of the staff were professional and courteous. However, one employee--a heavier-set woman, likely in her 30s or 40s, possibly of Mexican or Pacific Islander descent--stood out for all the wrong reasons. Her behavior was unnecessarily rude, condescending, and completely inappropriate for someone in a customer-facing role. Professionalism and basic decency are not optional in retail--especially in an environment where customer trust and comfort are essential. If she has no interest in treating people with respect, perhaps she's in the wrong line of work. Reading through the other reviews, it's clear this isn't an isolated issue. The recurring complaints speak volumes. If management hasn't addressed this by now, then it's no surprise the ratings reflect exactly what I experienced. read more

I went to inside the Dr Shapiro offices and a lady ophthalmologist super friendly and warm took care of me, fast and efficiently. Also, the technicians were all great and transactions were smooth. Besides, LensCrafters at this location has a myriad of beautiful frames to choose from...I could not resist to try all those Guccis, Pradas and nice brands...they all looked great on me, so probably they do on you too! read more

I've never been to a big box store for an eye exam and contact fitting because the customer service is usually lacking. I was easily able to make a next-day appointment online and got all of the works. There was an issue with my insurance, but the office staff fixed that immediately. I arrived about 10m early and didn't have to wait long before I was taken back to do some eye health tests. I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. W who sat down and took her time with me. I felt heard and understood. She found an issue in both of my eyes (that needs surgery to fix) and explained to me, with pictures, what could happen to me if I didn't address the problem as quickly as possible. She did my exam and explained all of the test results while showing thenimahes and did so in a way that I could understand. She wasn't in a rush to move on to the next patient which was nice. I was riddled with anxiety after hearing and seeing what was going on with my eyes but am grateful she took the time to look into everything and show me frame by frame what was going on and stressed that I needed to see an ophthalmologist ASAP. The staff gave me a short lesson about how to put my contacts in and I was on my way. I didn't realize I had been there for over 75m so checking out took quite a while. I had to leave before I could order my contacts because it was so busy. I was supposed to get a call back for my contacts but I didn't hear back from them until I called. They were very polite over the phone and ensured me my contacts would take 4-6 weeks to ship out to my house. I have a contact allowance and a frame allowance. When I called back to see what was going on, they apologized and took $50 bucks off of my bill. 6 months of contacts for $60. Zero complaints here. I will definitely be back next year to get my eyes checked out. It was worth fighting the crowd. If you've never been there before, it's by Victoria's Secret. I felt well taken care of and am a happy customer. read more

I had a very negative experience with this place. A few years ago when I was around 19, one of the staff made incredibly inappropriate comments to me, so I never returned to purchase glasses. This year, I came back with my mom for her eye exam and warned her to just get the prescription and buy glasses elsewhere because their pricing is extremely high. Unfortunately, one of the salespeople convinced my mom to proceed with a purchase and quoted her $800 for glasses. When I asked for a cost breakdown, he simply said, "This is it," and pointed to the total on the screen--no explanation at all. If I hadn't been there, my mom--who was getting glasses for the first time--might have paid that outrageous price without realizing it. To make things worse, the doctor even tried to upsell me on a $650 item during my visit. The entire experience left us both feeling uneasy. This place is not transparent about their pricing and I would strongly discourage anyone--especially first-time glasses wearers or elderly customers--from purchasing here. I rarely leave bad reviews, but I felt it was important to share this to help others avoid a similar experience. read more

The worst run business I have ever seen. I came because they had a deal claiming to offer kids prescription frames and lenses starting at $99. I needed a back up pair for my son because I had ordered a pair from another establishment that was taking longer than expected and was told I could order a pair here that can be done within a day or 2. Cool. Because they are back up, I wanted the most affordable option. I came in with my kids and from the get go, they were standoffish. I explained my situation and told them that I wanted to see the options for glasses that were in the $100 dollar price range. They went on to tell me that because he is under 18 I am required to get the polycarbonate option by law. I explained to them that I just need these as backup and don't want that option, I just want the basic ones that are being advertised for the price. I have ordered glasses from many different places and not one has ever required me to get the polycarbonate option. They again rudely reaffirmed that that doesn't cover the plastic and by law I have to get that option. They said if I wasn't happy with it, I can speak to the manager, who conveniently wasn't there. I don't know if it's because this LensCrafters is located in La Jolla or not, but they came off as so hoity toity, so much differently than any other location I've ever dealt with. For over 23 years, my family has relied on Lenscrafters to provide us with quality eyewear. Sadly, these last few visits at the University Town Center Mall location have left me with negative feelings and a bad taste in my mouth. For the first time ever and after 2 1/2 hours in the store trying to resolve my lens and frame issue, I opted to return the glasses which were within the 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Throughout my visit, the store manager displayed an arrogance and had an attitude that is short of rude. Some of the employees are very helpful when it comes to selling you glasses, but several are shy on customer service when a significant issue arises with your glasses. Perhaps if I felt like a valued customer and if my request to extend the 30-day guarantee to 35 days was granted (to accommodate my travel plans this week), they would not have lost a customer who just spent over $400 not to mention what we've spent throughout the past 23 years. PS - Just an idea for this location to promote good customer service with an elder - speak slower and be patient. read more

I ordered new frames and lenses and was told by my salesperson that I should buy the "protection " plan as well. He said that I could get new frames and lenses for $50 anytime during the next year. His comment was that way you'll always have spare." Turns out it was $50 for a new pair but you have to turn in the old pair. That was not explained to me. My husband heard the same thing so I'm not crazy. The salesperson must get something extra for pushing the protection plan. Just a word of warning to anyone who may get the same pitch. My $600 glasses are dangerous (yes, really) because the right lense is 80% transition... meaning I cannot see safely looking left when I'm driving. SCARY! ....and yes, I've given similar feedback when lenscrafters auto-resp asked about my purchase. My suggestion is to buy eyeglasses from a licensed doctor not associated with a turn-and-burn-sales store in a mall. I've been here twice for eye exams and honestly all they try to do is sell you stuff continuously. I come in being told my co pay will be $10, then of course the doctor wants to add on another optional $39 test, and then I was surprised that I was charged another $55 for contact fitting. I have been wearing contacts for years and definitely didn't need this trial set of contacts I was given. After paying $104 I inquired about changing my lenses in my glasses and the sales associate, Afshin, decided to criticize my glasses by saying that they're cracked (they are not) and that their glasses are 100x better quality. Sorry but if you want someone's money, insulting their already owned glasses that have lasted over 4 years probably isn't the way to do it. I'd rather go elsewhere or my original glasses manufacturer than be fear mongered into buying their glasses when all I wanted was a simple lens change. When I looked uninterested in buying any glasses he asked me "what's the matter". Unless you are actually prepared to buy new glasses and entertain their poor sales pitches, please just go somewhere else. Your insurance will give you a stipend for contacts and glasses but they will just throw information at you to make you feel like you're saving money just to make a quick buck. A simple annual eye exam doesn't need to turn into a massive bill, next time I'm going to a regular eye doctor that doesn't sit in a shop trying to push purchases on you. read more

I came in for laboratory safety glasses and the process took about an hour. There weren't enough associates to help customers. I wanted to get in and out of there, but I couldn't because the associate kept asking other people in the store if they needed anything and helping other people who were browsing and helping people who walked in after me. I had to go back to the check-out cash register area and tell the associate I was ready before I was asked if I needed any help. It honestly kind of felt like discrimination because none of the other people that walked in or were browsing were Asian, and with COVID, anti-Asian discrimination is so ubiquitous. It was just really weird because it felt like I was the last person to be helped, but I was left sitting around. It felt like my time was not valued at all. read more

I'm not one to write bad reviews but after being a patient here for 17 years...when a poor review is warranted, it's warranted. And the treatment, disrespect, and lack of care I received tonight means my loyalty is at its end. I had an appt for 6pm tonight, Thursday. I was called on Wednesday and left a message to call back and confirm. I did that later on Wednesday, spoke with someone, and they sent me the paperwork to fill out. I filled it out this afternoon when I got the reminder text. So...they knew I was coming for my appt. Imagine when I walk in at 6:02, after fighting my way through 45 mins of traffic to come down from Encinitas and deal with the fact that UTC is apparently a parking location for the Farmer's Open, to find out that the "Doctor was going home." "Home?" I asked. "My appointment was 6pm." "Yes, but she's going home," is what I was told. Now I'm a compassionate person. If he had said, she's got a migraine, or is not feeling well, or her kid is sick or she's absolutely rattled because her home was in the evac zone for the fire in La Jolla today...fine, I'll still be grumpy, but fine. No, what I got was this: "She's going home. We called you. Three times today. The other doctor called out." I flipped my phone around to show him my call log with the only missed call marked from Lenscrafter or Optometry for this day occuring at 6:01pm. I showed up at 6:02 or 6:03 after booking it across the mall because I had to park so far with the traffic and construction. "Do you want to reschedule for tomorrow morning?" he asks. I look at him like he has two heads. Absolutely, I do not. I had an appt for tonight at 6pm that I am now here for and expecting to have. When I complained about how much effort it took to even get to the appt, he said, "Well I can talk to her, she's still here." Oh, so now I should go meet with someone who was so keen to ditch me and our confirmed appointment? Yeah, hard pass on that. Here's the thing: assuming they did call me three times as he said and somebody bungled my phone number (I find this hard to believe because they called me yesterday and the reminder texts worked just fine, but sure okay, stuff happens) you do not cancel an appointment on someone unless you get them on the phone and they acknowledge. That just demonstrates a complete lack of care and respect for the other person's time. This is further underscored by the fact I received no apology from the receptionist, the doctor herself, or anyone else working there. It is over an hour since I left and nobody has called to apologize. They also have my email, mind you. So, so many ways I could have been contacted and asked to reschedule if there was indeed a problem. An earlier in the day problem and not the doctor deciding at 6:01 she doesn't want to see me. As I said above, I hardly, hardly give bad reviews, but when you received treatment like this...I won't be quiet and accept it. Compare and contrast this horrible experience to the very sweet girl at Salt and Straw, who took complete care of me after I stumbled in, dazed and shocked that a business could be that unprofessional and not even think twice about it. Until now, I had no complaints about my care or reason to seek anyone else out. Unfortunately, this relationship is at its end. After all, would YOU trust someone who treated you with such flippant disregard with something as important as your eyes and ocular health? read more

The Retail side is amazing! The Eye Exam area needs A LOT of work. The two ladies that I interacted with treated me like garbage that needed to be thrown out. If this is how they treat people they are doing the amazing doctors a disservice. Those two ladies should not be interacting with people. They presented themselves very stuck up and snotty. If the restroom was really out of order, they could have at least directed me to a functional one in the mall. I thought the UTC location was renown for their exceptional service. Would recommend this place if you are simply trying to find out your prescription. Loved the optometrist here, unlike other optometrists I've seen before, the visit did not feel rushed and she really took the time to answer and explain all of my questions regarding the type of contact lenses I wear. She gave me useful tips and has allowed me to see better and more comfortably by adjusting my prescription. On the less positive side, if you're planning to get your glasses in-store they are quite pricey - pricer than other places I've been to for sure. Staff at the front is meh, not very helpful or friendly. The guy at the counter checking me out (no, not like that) talked and worked quite fast so I had to tell him to repeat himself more than once. Glad I didn't have to deal with them a whole lot because I purchased my glasses online. If you're looking for a more affordable place to purchase glasses I'd recommend Firmoo, Eyebuy Direct, or GlassesUSA.com - I've bought glasses, including designer glasses, off these sites and have been very happy with my orders (and savings!) read more
