Brought in a pair of Nike pros for them to get altered, which if anyone has gotten Nike pros they know how horribly they fit. Very complex waist band to alter and most tailors I went too weren't able to do this, when I came in this store he pinned the right away and gave me a call when it was ready. Been using Jeffrey for 20 years. Brought in a pair of slacks where the hem was coming loose. He said it would be $25 because he had to take the seam out. You always had to negotiate because he would quote you some high price "($28)" and then say "ok $20." He fixed them, I wore them then through them in the wash. They came out with the whole seam to the knee separated. When I took them back he said "you brought them in for a little stitch and now this?" as if I had something to do with the outcome. Seriously? Gary has helped with blazers in the past and he was great. I took in a heavy, 3/4 length Harris tweed coat. It was a find online that was big but my size (38s). Not something just any tailor would be able to handle. His overwhelming confidence in adjusting the coat made me nervous. Well, he has every right to be. Others warned me about this shop being overpriced and the owner being difficult but it is so convenient I decided to take a chance. That was a mistake. When dropping off the pants, I asked and was told the charges. When my wife returned to pick up the alterations they demanded 50% more than they quoted me. When my wife mentioned the amount they quoted me they insisted they never said that. Consider yourself warned - proceed with caution. Two weeks ago I brought in what I considered to be a simple, full-length bridesmaid dress for alteration. Gary and his seamstress looked it over and she was immediately worried- said it was an incredibly complex job due to the material and the ribbing-like folds on the bust. She looked genuinely concerned about how she would sew the dress and at then end of the fitting we all agreed that she would "just try her best". I honestly did not have very high expectations after talking to her but I knew they were perfectionists and I really had no choice- I had to wear that dress so I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. Today I went in to pick it up. Before I tried it on, I pored over the bust area where the complicated fabric runs, and I couldn't see any sign of alteration. I flipped it inside-out and carefully inspected the inner bust, looking to see how she could have possibly sewn it without any visible marks on the outside. There are literally no discernible marks/threads/lines anywhere on the dress! I thought maybe there was a misunderstanding and they didn't actually work on it, but I tried it on and it fits like a glove! She must have sewn it in a way that it exactly matches the original sewing because I literally cannot tell what she did. Gary said she worked really, really hard on this dress- and it shows. Also, the price was unbelievable, cannot be beat. I am a customer for life! read more
