by far my favorite ice cream shop in the country!! i've traveled all across the united states and have tried lots of different ice cream shops, and leon's is still the top dog. the butter pecan is absolutely amazing, the custard is cold, rich, and super flavorful, with the added crunch of the pecans. the dairy that they use is simply unmatched, and is a testament to wisconsin's tradition of excellent milk + cheese products. the price is also the most affordable ice cream i've had anywhere in the country. the line gets a little long, but for good reason. the workers are quick and friendly! there's not a huge seating area, so most people just stand and eat their ice cream, or eat in their car. just be prepared with some napkins and you'll be good to go! if i could go here everyday i would absolutely do so 10/10. this is a prime destination you cant miss if you visit milwaukee WI! read more

I recently moved to Milwaukee without knowing much about it, but I was blessed to land close enough to Leon's that I can make the trip in a couple times a week. Unlike most folks, I don't go there for the custard, I go there for their Spanish burger. I have no idea why it would be considered Spanish, and don't be fooled: it's not a burger. The best way to describe the sandwich is to compare it to the famous Iowa loose meat sandwich, the Maid Right. If you're not familiar with that, imagine you take ground beef, crumble it to the point of being the smallest bits of beef you've ever seen, add nothing more than some spices, scoop it onto a bun and you have Leon's delicious Spanish burger. Service is as quick and efficient as it can be. Leon's gets ridiculously busy at times, but part of the fun is standing around with your fellow patrons having a chat. read more

**July 2025: Weeknight Visit** I did quite a bit of research for my Milwaukee trip and everything I read insisted that a trip to Milwaukee would not be complete without frozen custard. What is frozen custard you might ask? It's like a sup'd up ice cream that's richer and smoother. It has more egg yolk than ice cream so this creation is just silkier and smoother cold treat. Anyways, Leon's came up as the top search so my friend and I went to go check it out. On our visit there was a line of maybe 30 or so people at 7pm on a Wednesday. Suffice to say they're doing something right! The restaurant has a also 1950s look and bright lights that kind of remind me of Vegas. The cone prices seemed moderate to me - a double scoop was $3.76, but I somehow was able to get a single scoop for $2 or so. The line moved pretty quickly and I tried a crowd favorite the Butter Pecan. It was certainly silky smooth and flavorful. Looked like it could be a winner!! when I started taking my pictures I could see that everyone passing by had stopped car after car after car pulling over I knew I hit the jackpot. I ordered a small butter pecan and a hotdog. The customer service was fantastic. The ambiance is a walk up window, so it screams quick and hurry. The first spoon of the butter pecan, I knew I had stumbled upon a gold mine. As I got in my car, the parking lot was full That cycle had repeated itself ever since I first pulled over. Leon's was my last stop on my WI custard tour. I had previously eaten 2 Turtle Sundaes within about 30 minutes from my earlier stops. After reading all the reviews I had to try Leon's. Went with the classic vanilla as well as strawberry. Overall the custard is pretty good, great mouth feel and creamy. The vanilla and strawberry flavors were a little on the lighter side, when compared to Kopp's. Still quite good custard, but Kopp's slightly edges out on flavor and is a little more smooth. Another super busy Frozen Custard stop in Milwaukee. We got there at 4PM on an afternoon that wasn't particularly hot, but the lines on both sides of Leon's were long and winding. It took us about 15 minutes before we were able to amble our way to the front. Luckily, the custard comes out fast after you place an order. Double Dip, Butter Pecan, in a Cup ($3.34) - Again, another rich and silky custard, coming in a 10oz cup, filled almost to the top. The texture is spot on, being thick, creamy, and dense. The butter pecan flavor here is amazing with a perfect sweetness level. The focus is the sweet butterscotchy flavor and the dairy flavor is quite muted in comparison. There aren't too many pecan pieces mixed in, but the pieces that are inside add a soft crunch to the mixture. It looks like they pipe the butterscotch custard into a pail, and when you order, the worker shakes some nuts on top of the pail to be scooped up with the custard. The custard starts melting as soon as you get it. The only thing that slightly irked me was that the cup was very sticky when we received it and they don't have sinks to wash up after you eat. This means you're driving with sticky hands as you leave. (5/5) I'm kind of jealous of people living in Milwaukee, having amazing custard all over the place.
