This place is amazing. Seriously. See the photo of my brownie sundae. And to think that I almost got a two scoop!!!! We had been shopping on Broughton street all day and were parked right in front of Leopold's (paid parking, $2.50 an hour). There were a lot of times when there wasn't a line but by the time we decided to go, I guess everyone else did as well. Fortunately it moved very quickly. It was a bit chaotic but the employee were constantly saying, I'll help who's next, and the line got a little messed up but there didn't seem to be any complaints. My mom and sister got one scoop cones, my brother got a milkshake, and I got a brownie sundae...with Savannah Socialite. So, SO GOOD...but serious sugar coma! Next time I'll just get a regular sundae or share with someone! It was $38 for the four of us but if you think of it as an experience, I believe it's worth it. There is also limited seating inside (it was too hot that day to sit outside but some people were doing it!) But people rotated quickly and we had no trouble securing a table. As long as I've lived in Savannah, this my first time going. There's usually a very long line and I just knew it must've been a tourist trap. I was wrong. It's good. Like, really good. Enjoyed trying samples on small metal spoons, compared to most places' plastic. Cool touch. Customer service is superb. Every sample we tried, we enjoyed (though I'm a classic butter pecan girl, that one was my least favorite). The chocolate chewie flavor knocked my flops off. We shared a scoop, which was more than enough, and is fairly priced. We took it to go, but wandered around a bit. Lotta cool stuff to grab your attention and make you wanna take a seat. The line was long- that was a good indication others knew about this place. Joe W. was outside informing us in the line about new flavors to try, bringing water, hats for the kids (and some older kids!) The menu was available to scan while waiting in line. Once we got up to the counter and it was our turn the service was fantastic! Sample after sample was given. The flavors were varied from familiar to interestingly new! The ice cream was rich and creamy. The store has posters and movie memorabilia from the owners time working in Hollywood and was interesting to see. There were seats and tables inside or outside. Leopold's is a Savannah institution, and once you go there, you can understand why. I've had Leopold's twice in the two days I've been in Savannah, and the ice cream is excellent. The line can be long depending on the time of day, but it generally moves quickly. My favorite flavor is peanut butter chippy which is creamy peanut butter ice cream with chocolate chips. I've had it with butter pecan (delicious) and also with pistachio (even more delicious). The pistachio ice cream is more delicate in flavor, but if you love pistachios like I do, this is the ice cream for you. There's a small room off to the side where there are tables and chairs, but they are often full (though people don't tend to linger long). read more

We had seen the long lines and were hesitant to wait, but I now understand what the hype is about! It was really cool to travel back in time and experience the same flavors/items that people have been enjoying for over a hundred years. The line wasn't bad, it took about 20-25 minutes and the gentleman outside was awesome, making conversation and offering everyone cold water. I also loved seeing all the film memorabilia inside! Decided to stop in on this 82 degree weather day while in Savannah! I'm glad we did! The line was wrapped outside but it dwindled pretty quickly! The staff were friendly, smiling and very helpful. They have unique flavors and we were able to sample flavors that we were curious about. Inside searing was a small packed area, we were able to grab seating outside. Strolling through Savannah on a warm evening, we found ourselves at Leopold's Ice Cream and stopped in for an after-dinner snack. I got the Savannah Socialite: milk and dark chocolate ice creams with roasted Georgia Pecans and swirled with homemade bourbon-infused caramel. I've been to Savannah several times now, and a stop at Leopold's for ice cream has been an absolute must with every visit. The wonderful throwback interiors of an old school soda fountain and ice cream parlor add to the charm. I lucked out on my visit with a minimal line to get in, but it can be very long during peak tourist season. The Savannah film festival was in town during my most recent visit, and barely missed a run in with Sydney Sweeney who had been there the day before for some ice cream. On this visit, I went with the butter pecan and coconut ice cream. Upon first taste, I was instantly reminded of the high quality of the ice cream they serve. The flavors are just right, the ice cream doesn't melt right away, and it's not excessively sweet like many other ice creams. I wholeheartedly recommend a stop into Leopold's for ice cream when in Savannah. The only downside of me being loyal to Leopold's is that I haven't been able to give other ice cream places in Savannah a try. read more

I finally took everyone's advice and tried out Leopold's Ice Cream Shop. Thankfully, I was able to visit right as they opened around 11:15AM, so the line was not nearly as long as I have seen it previously. There are many nostalgic ice cream flavors offered here that other shops don't sell, such as the peppermint and tutti fruit flavors. However, we ended up getting the seasonal Girl Scouts thin mint flavor and chocolate flavors, which were both excellent. We opted for 2 scoop waffle cones, but I would say that they are very generous with scoop sizes, so in the future I may stick with 1 scoop. I was also impressed with the variety of treats, ranging from ice cream sandwiches to milkshakes to floats. The only really complaint I have is that the shop is small (which explains the constant line out the door) and there is a room for seating, but there are only about 6-8 tables capable of seating only 2-3 people each. So, I would not recommend visiting if you are in a large group -- you would basically have to take your ice cream to go. read more

It's pretty cool to visit for that reason if you're coming from out of town. The ice cream is decent but didn't taste exceptional. This shop was opened in 1919 by 3 brothers from Greece, and the movie memorabilia throughout the shop is because the youngest son of one of the brothers is a movie producer. A kids' scoop is $4.25 and modestly sized. My kiddos were definitely left wanting more. I enjoyed my coffee ice cream but feel the expectations bar was a little too high for this place. We were finishing off a couple martinis and quickly google searched "ice cream near me," and I nearly choked on an oyster when Leopold's popped up with 4.7 stars on 13,505 google reviews. My grandfather loved rum cake with candied fruit in it, so it seems to fit the time of the store. I got the Savannah Socialite and Cookies^2. The pecans were the perfect texture: not too crunchy, not too soft. It was very rich. One scoop of that was enough. I couldn't have eaten two because it would have been too much richness. Having the second scoop be Cookies^2 was perfect. The vanilla was made with tiny bits of cookie dough throughout (I mean super tiny. Leopold's is a must every time you visit Savannah! Lots of Hollywood stars visit here, despite the place being pure nostalgia. The line only grew out the door when we arrived. You could try all their different ice cream flavors, but we were there for a classic banana split. Our order did take awhile as the employee was working diligently on our order. This was easily shareable between 3 people, or 2 people who really like ice cream. This did cost us a whopping $16 since they charge extra for the toppings.
