I hadn't eaten a corned beef sandwich in forever so I took the opportunity while visiting Michigan to order one at the closest Coney Island. I called ahead to make sure that this location had them on the menu and they did. I ordered two corned beef sandwiches on an onion roll which I ULTIMATELY RECOMMEND when ordering this sandwich. Some like it on rye but that's not my personal fave choice of bread for this. They answered the phone pretty quickly and the young man who took my order was super kind. I asked him if it was shareable because I'm used to my sandwiches being packed with meat but he honestly told me he could eat two of them. And if he could eat two then I knew my boyfriend needed his own haha! I appreciated his honesty because it showed me that he actually eats the food and likes it, but also helped me make the right decision. We both loved the food it was delicious. Leo's coney has dine in as well if you're looking to sit inside. Stopped in yesterday while running errands to grab some breakfast, some of it's what you expect from a coney island but it was a really good experience so thought I would share. Our server Brittany did a great job, made sure we had everything we needed. My husband eggs were cooked perfectly which isn't always the case if he orders eggs at other breakfast restaurants. I loved my cinnamon swirl french toast, nice eggy/custard but still had a nice crispness. Bacon and scrambled eggs were good. Coffee probably could've been a bit stronger. read more

stopped in to Leo's while on a work trip as options are limited unless you want fast food. Leo's is located on Gratiot avenue and they have a private parking lot on both sides of the restaurant. i sat myself as the sign stated to do so. menus are on the table already and I was promptly greeted by a server to take a drink order. I ordered a Coke. when she returned I ordered the 1/2 pound cheeseburger with a side of fries. the burger was delivered quickly and the fries were piping hot fresh from the fryer and the burger was hot, juicy and delicious. the lettuce was fresh as were the pickles and tomato. Leo's is clean, the staff is friendly and the business appears to be busy, an indicator of great food. i believe they are greek owned as the menu has several greek dishes on them. i have yet to eat at a bad greek owned establishment anywhere in the country. overall I'm very satisfied with the service, meal and cleanliness of Leo's. i will dine here again. read more

What a great place! Our food was well prepared, tasty and great portions. We had the lemon rice soup which was delicious! My gyro was filled with tender meat, sweet red onions and tomatoes. I had to use a steak knife to get it in a manageable portions. Got a slice of carrot cake to go and it was better than my homemade. (Pretty sure the sign said open until Midnight) I followed the semi steady flow of cars into the parking lot and found a door that I could actually enter. For some reason one entire side had the doors locked. So around the building I went. Again, half of booths and tables were not available for seating. I was told by a gal to " just sit where ever I liked" I really didn't have much choice. I was however quickly greeted by a very nice server and she quickly retrieved my Iced tea. I decided on the fish and chips which arrived rather quickly and I was excited. It was Hot and smelled really good. My excitement did not last past the first bite of fish, it was bland and soggy, not flaky or crisp. The french fries were also hot, but these things were also crispy and salted to perfection. The little cup of coleslaw tasted great, there just was not enough of it. The shining star of this visit to Leo's was the server. She was awesome. The staff behind the grills seem to be having a blast loudly, while I am not opposed to having fun and being loud at work, I just wished the guy who made the fries would have fried my fish with the same expertise. read more

I'm actually a restaurant manager myself and have worked in the food industry over 15 years. I called in a chicken pita. They gave me a wrap. I called and asked them if they could replace it with the chicken that comes on a pita like the honi. He said he cannot. He said I ordered it wrong so there's nothing he can do about. What a joke. I'm constantly voiding food at my restaurant and making sure customers are happy and I don't even get that same respect when I go out. I won't be back at this location unless they replace my chicken pita and apologiz. I had a late night craving and got something opposite of what I was hoping to order. So, 2 weeks ago we ordered carryout and I got the wrong salad dressing. Okay, not a big deal, I was eating at home and used my own. Tonight we ordered again - the gal who took my order was talking over me saying "anything else?" when I was telling her what else. Whoever she is, she needs to learn how to listen and when I ordered a gyro burger and fries, she missed the fries which was found when I got home. I am so super disappointed. I ordered the potato skins appetizer to be delivered and it was overcooked and burnt. I called back to discuss my order(other items were missing too but this was just the icing on the cake). After saying, I would not be able to come back for another two hours. I was told to return my entire order and it would be replaced regardless. Yep, I was told this. I arrive with my order and was immediately labeled as an "complainer" after repeating the above again but in person to the same staff. Furthermore, I was accused of eating the skins and other items that I never received. "It's an order of 7 and only 4 are here". "I know for a fact because I packed this order myself". I'm really just saddened at the attitude of the cashiers handling more than likely a simple misunderstanding between cooks, staff, or the delivery driver. Idk! Overall, The manager refunded my order, but I had a nice conversation about the rudeness, lack of maturity, and inability to problem solve to address this situation left a bad taste in my mouth. The Coneys appear to have changed on Tuesdays (at least). Since the price of Coneys are reduced on Tuesday, a lower quality hot dog seems to have arrived. It's mushy - little actual meat and skin that's tough to digest. Beware Folks. I've been coming here since Sea Breeze owned this building years ago. Now I'm moving over to National Coney Island, even thou it costs more per hotdog. Better quality seven days per week. read more

This particular Leo's is trash. They have messed up my last 4 orders from there on separate occasions. I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap To-go and when I got home to open it, it had tomatoes and cucumbers in it. Couldn't eat it. The next day I took it back and they told me it now comes with tomatoes and cucumbers. It doesn't say that on the menu and that's not a typical Caesar topping. All wait staff but two were wearing masks with their nose exposed, and one Line Cook had his mask under his chin and his face was completely exposed. With some franchises, you know what to expect, regardless of the location. I'll be honest: Leo's is a franchise that unusually serves mediocre food, with chicken consistently over cooked and tasteless. The "tzatziki" sauce is basically just Greek yogurt at most locations (I've been to 4 of them). But, this Leo's is different. The chicken is excellent cooked properly, and in massive portions. I got a chicken pita, and I swear there was a half a pound of chicken on there. I could've gotten a second pita, and made a second sandwich out of it. And, this is a good tzatziki sauce, nicely balanced with cucumber, garlic, and lemon juice. The Greek salad is a solid effort, too. Huge amounts of lettuce, but a little skimpy on the other components. The dressing, however, is very good. Coney dogs, fries, and chili are also done well here. I personally don't love the chili, but it's a solid effort for a Coney Island restaurant. But, I'm not come here for any of those things: the chicken will keep bringing me back. read more

Food is average, but there are tons of flies in the restaurant. That needs to be fixed.

I paid for my order with a credit card and days later the staff charged an extra dollar. I called the manager Derrick to complain and he was clueless as to how to rectify the issue. If you decide to eat there and pay with a credit or debit card be sure to keep an eye out for mysterious charge increases. We've always loved this location, but sadly, our last three experiences there have not been good. We used to love all the staff there, but recently, we keep getting the same, bitter, bad-attitude, snotty and argumentative waitress who ALWAYS slams down the plates and drinks, often spilling them a bit and just walks away. In the past, I've always looked at the bill to see what pleasant waitress had served us, so that we can ask for her again. Now, I only look at our bill, so that we can try to never, ever sit in this person's area ever again - Unfortunately, she only uses her initials on the bill, so I never know who we're trying to avoid. Typical Coney Island joint. Very clean and a breath of fresh air after the re-model; the last place that was housed in this building was tacky and old... I'm not too familiar with the Leo's chain, but the fare is much like most other Coney restaurants. The waitstaff has always been pleasant and quick and the kitchen kicks out the food quickly. We've never had to wait for a table and we've never had a bad experience here. A great alternative to National. It's nice to have a clean, fast and cheap place to eat, right down the street! read more

Eliza was my server, and a fine server she was! She offered quick and attentive service. I ordered a stuffed cabbage special and it came with mashed potatoes & succotash, as well as a cup of soup. All was good, because my plate was clean when I finished my meal. OK, it was a little noisy, but when I realized that grandma had taken her daughter and 3 or 4 little ones to supper, well, that explained a lot. After they left, things quieted down a bit. A great hit was the free face painting and balloons for the kiddies (I visited on Friday afternoon). The nice lady with the nice balloons wore red & white striped bib overalls and the kids seemed to love her. I kept on hearing about this new coney chain that has been popping up all over the place, Leo's Coney Island, and as a traditionalist that has frequented the Lafayette AND American, I can tell you that away from Downtown that this place fills the void. I had a couple of Coney's, loaded and some Cheese Fries with a Coffee. The Coffee was great; strong, hot and well balanced. I could have used a bigger cup though, it's like the cup I had was like 6 oz. or something small like that - maybe I was just thirsty, lol. The dogs, the waitress informed me were Kogel's. Not a surprise, but good to know being in the middle of a glut of great sausage makers in the area. It's a skin-on dog and has a great 'snap' to it, was grilled to perfection and full of flavor. The Chili was a notch spicier than anything in it's category around town, and that's not a bad thing. In fact, it sets it apart from some of the bland suburban imitators out there. Fries were solid, reminded me a lot of McDonald's fries, except without the soggy ones :) Staff was very attentive and my cup never hit bottom once. Prices were par for pretty much everywhere else. They had a full menu, in fact, 2 full menus, one of which was just for that particular location that featured some Burgers that will be investigating on subsequent trips! My experience at this Leo's was awful from the get go. My family of four showed up to Leos at 9:45pm after an evening of hockey in downtown Detroit. There was no sign saying 'please wait to be seated' or 'please seat yourself'. No hostess to be found so we sat near a dirty booth. 10 minutes went by and nobody in the restaurant acknowledged us. There was several waitresses eating food and texting and a few other tables. Finally the bus boy told a waitress there was a 4 top at table 8 20 minutes into our visit. The waitress was really snooty and sounded like she hated her job. I ordered Clam Chowder soup, while the rest of the family ordered pitas. My soup was cold and served 5 minutes after the rest of my families food. My Moms chicken pita had hair in it. All the waitresses had long hair and only one cook had a hairnet on. My Mom ordered well done fries and they were completely soggy. No refills. No boxes. Nothing. Very bad service. read more
