We recently picked up carryout from Athenian Shish Kabob and had another great experience overall. Our order was ready quickly, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We did run into a small issue at checkout--the total was miscalculated and came out about $12 higher than it should have been. Thankfully, we caught it, and the staff promptly corrected the mistake and refunded the difference back to our card, which we appreciated. For food, my husband ordered the chicken siciliano with a baby Greek salad and lemon rice soup, and I went with a BLT. Everything was delicious, just like we've come to expect from Athenian. Despite the minor hiccup at the register, the quality of the food and the friendly service keep us coming back. We'll definitely continue to enjoy Athenian Shish Kabob and its old school diner feel. read more

the food here is average and seems to be rushed and quickly cooked. The staff is not overly friendly or helpful and that is an honest statement. If you are not a regular here, you are an outcast that they seem to just want your money and get you out . On to the part that was less enjoyable was that the bread was in a plastic bag and had mold on it, also the inside is very difficult to hear and order because of the glass wall inside the restaurant. read more

The lettuce was good and the pita chips fresh. The dressing was just ok. No real flavor. It wasn't bad just wasn't good. Not something I would order again. Garlic Sauce: This is make it or break it for me when trying somewhere new. The sauce was just ok, again no real flavor. I prefer my garlic sauce to be very garlic flavored. Sandwiches: Chicken was fresh and good but the sandwich was just ok again. This is because the garlic sauce wasn't great and the pickles were weird. Been coming here for a looooong time. It's gone up and down with the quality, but has always been a favorite of ours. I rave to everyone about how good this place is. The last 3 times it has been awful. When I called and said they forgot my husbands meal, I was promised a side of gyro meat next time. She then continued to tell me it would be a "hefty side". I don't write reviews often, but I gave this place every opportunity to make it right and they couldn't. The kebab was dry, burger bun was completely soggy with pickle juice and the fries look like the fryer hadn't been changed in months. I'm taking my friend's advice now and going elsewhere. I call for a carry out order and asked if there was a dinner special for shish kabob with veggies & rice with a side salad (as I had this before with grilled pepper & rice with/red sauce) She said yes, asked me if I wanted stir fry veggies or green beens which kinda through me off I assumed stir fry meant w/ peppers so I chose that and then confirmed side salad as my side. I got home, this was not what I had expected. There was no rice & red sauce and then their version of stir fry veggies. My side salad looks like I got the bottom of a bag of lettuce.. a lot of brown lettuce. Did not look fresh. My family used to visit here all the time and I loved it! I used to order the chicken tenders & the lemon rice soup, and it was great. Recently we started ordering takeout from here again. My new favorite order is the gyro pita dinner, which comes with rice & a salad. I absolutely love it and find myself craving this meal all the time. Everything is so fresh and portions are a large size for the affordable price! This can feed me for two meals since I always have leftovers. One thing to note however, is that the lemon rice soup was not as good as I remember it to be, but maybe it was just a bad batch. Employees are friendly on the phone and it is usually about a 15-20 min wait for takeout which is not bad at all considering I order at peak times. placed an over the phone carry out order using their website for reference of menu. Menu provided prices. Ordered a $12.95 meal. Also, when placing the order I asked for a lemon wedge and four extra tzatziki sauces. Lady said give her 20 minutes. I arrived 22 minutes had to wait for two people to cash out prior to being ready. I go to cash out and the lady tells me it's $23 and some change. And my food has been sitting out on the counter with no lamp or anything to keep it warm. I leave the restaurant, and questioned myself what would cost so much? Went back into the restaurant lady told me that the menu on the website is not accurate ! handed me a carryout menu. Also explain to me that the tzatziki sauces were $1.64 for a 2 ounce container. That is absolutely ridiculous!!! Then charge me three dollars for two lemon wedges. I leave the parking lot, and call the manager. Manager was of no help. she wanted to argue with me about up charge prices. I explained when placing an order over the phone, it's only courteous for the person to tell you how much the up charge is if there's any. But for $1.64 per container ; that absolutely should have been stayed!!! That is a joke. And then on top of that the lemon wedges ? ; I could've bought a whole bag of lemons for $3.00 SMH. and I brought to her attention that I placed order using menu that is on THEIR website! I get into the restaurant and the price is different. They should be honoring the prices on the website. But did not do so. I mean come on! Large portion? ha! The gyro meat is sliced so thin you can practically SEE through it. It's ridiculous. What, do they have a deli slicer back there or what?? We got the spinach pie too. Where's the FETA cheese? And the outer layer was completely burnt. Not light, and thin and crisp as it should be. It was burnt and chewy. Pretty disgusting! In addition they now charge $.85 for taziki in the smallest ramekin. Doesn't even come with the meal. Not even an oz. This is just greedy. 2nd time I came for a carry-out. I live a 1/2 hour away but so good. I ordered a lot because I been driving by for years and never stopped. The gyro is delicious the fries are divine i ordered a large Greek salad and 1 beef and 1 chicken kabob. The meat is so tender and wonderful and tzatziki is great. Staff is friendly-it's a small place but delicious especially since my favorite Greek restaurant in Greektown went out of business. Even the rice is good. We ordered carry out on a Friday evening. I tried the Athenian Gyros meat dinner which comes with beef and lamb, tomatoes and onions. The special sauce is Tzatziki which is a Greek yogurt dip. My other half ordered the Chicken Kebob which either comes with french fries or rice pilaf. I also had the mashed potatoes which tasted like they were made from some box variety and ended up throwing it away. Both entrees were so-so nothing spectacular and we were both not impressed. Great spot for carry-out. Their food is very good and reasonably priced. But their Greek dressing is AMAZING!!! So freaking amazing. Its not pink or creamy, so I was worried I wouldn't like it. But I LOVE it!! My Greek salad was fresh and crisp, and the shish kabob was perfect. Love their rice and red sauce as well. The women who take your carryout over the phone are polite and friendly.
