My inlaws highly recommend this place and I was skeptical because it had such poor reviews. We went because wifie was sure the inlaws were correct. I ordered the gyro deluxe (with feta cheese and lettuce) combo with the greek salad and wifie had their Michigan blue salad with chicken. The gyro was awesome - very flavorful with a lot of meat. The salad was great they actually give you enough salad dressing. Wifie loved her salad and it was big enough to take some home. I would recommend this place and will stop back read more

I don't think I'll be visiting this location for a while. I ordered a large Greek salad and regular gyro. When I got home, there was no dressing and it was a chicken wrap. I called the restaurant and they said they'd issue a refund on my card I used. I realize restaurants are stressed so I didn't make it a big deal if it and thanked them for the refund (since I had no dressing to eat the salad and didn't want a chicken wrap). Two days later I called because no refund on my card. They said it was too late because the refund should've been issued that night and they weren't sure why it wasn't, but since it wasn't they couldn't do it. They gave me a gift card instead. A while later, I ordered carry out so I can use my gift card. Go in to pick it up and none of the cooks were wearing masks. I declined the food and went somewhere else. My son had the lemon rice soup and he ate a ton of it, then got a side of breakfast sausage because he is 5 and that is what he wanted. I have the greek chicken salad and it was awesome. If it was possible I wouldn't even give them a 1 star! Horrific service for starters! Place was dead at 6pm on a Saturday. Literally one other couple there. This should have been my first clue it was going to be a bad experience. Red Olives doesn't have a specials menu so I didn't know what they specialized in. They have literally everything: Breakfast, Greek, Italian, Mediterranean, Seafood, Burgers, Sandwiches, Coneys. The menu was huge. For starters my Aunt and I ordered sagancki. The cheese was burnt to the boiler pan before it even hit the table. Pita bread was hard and stale. I ordered the chicken schwarma wrap. The wrap was stale. Chicken was dry. Pickles were brown and it just looked unappetizing. Flavor wasn't there. My Aunt ordered the chickem kabob dinner with rice (no tomato sauce!) The chicken was once again extremely dry and caked with seasoning. Looked as if the cooks just drowned the chicken with an entire bottle of spice. The rice had tomato sauce when she requested no sauce. The waitress said to just scrap it off. In addition the meal came with green beans, which were obviously from a can. Awful experience. Won't be going back. If you would like a great dinning experience in the area save yourself a stomach ache, headache and money and go to Charlies Restaurant down the street! This location, which is fairly new, is increasingly improving on each subsequent visit. Their menu offers a vast selection of meals, the prices are just right, and the service is efficient, timely, and presented with a friendly smile every time. Additionally, the place is very clean, which is greatly appreciated! Their lemon-rice soup is very tasty and does not require the usual addition of extra lemon, which is my standard request at other diners. Looking fora good meal, good service and not have to bust the bank. Red Olive will meet those demands. The clam chowder was great and full of clams and potatoes just the way I like it. My husbands sandwich and fries were fresh and delish. I mean there isn't much to say about places like this because there are essentially 100 others. I haven't been to this location before. But I love love love the Livonia location! My favorite is the village Greek salad. It is so delicious. I am a big fan of their Greek dressing! Tonite, for lent, I ordered their mac & cheese upon the recommendation of their cashier when I did my carryout. I'll let you know how it tastes :) This location is in a small strip mall. clean, but boring brown all over decor. Half booths, half tables. The cashier was very nice and quick. This is the worst of the red olive locations. The workers are clueless never get my carryout orders correct. I order carry out salads and ask for the meat on the side they always put it on the salad.I don't even have to ask for this done on Vandyke location or royal oak they just do it. Today i ordered a chicken cesar salad with a side of gyro meat for my wife they just put it all on top of the salad. This location always has greasy floors and just not a clean feeling. I tried to like this location because it is closer to my house but never again 12 mile and Vandyke is sooooo much cleaner and just all around a better restaurant. read more

I would give 2.5 if we can do half points. I went to the St. Clair Shores location with my parents because it was fairly new opening up. They have a very wide variety of choices on their menu which is good. Anyone should be able to find something. I'm not sure if our waitress was just very new, or she just didn't care about her job. I asked for no tomatoes on my sandwich, and she also confirmed this while reading the order back to me. Guess what I got on my sandwich? Tomatoes. I'm not the type of person to ask for new food and waste what I have, so I just took them off, put them on an extra plate, and moved it to the side table by the isle, making sure she would see it. She did, but didn't say anything. My mom got a tuna salad sandwich. She asked to have provolone cheese added to it. When the waitress left, she came back, and said what type of cheese again? My mom said provolone again, and then asked to describe it because she didn't know what provolone cheese was. Ooooook. So she comes back and said she didn't have provolone cheese and all they had was cheddar. My mom said, "No, it's ok then, I'll just have it without cheese added." What's on her tuna when she comes back? Cheddar Cheese. NOW COME ON. You're even writing it down. There shouldn't be an excuse for this. The food was ok, nothing special. Good priced. Ho hum, yet another staple Greek Style/Coney Island/ Gyros joint in the area. Have we not had enough of warmed up food service fare? Nothing here to write home about. I will give it three stars for being average although, the decor is modern and clean. The selection of salads is extensive as is the rest of the immense menu. Makes you wonder how they keep all that food fresh. This place rolls in the ambition. Coney Island, Salads, Seafood, Mexican, Italian, Greek, whatever. This type of restaurant is like the third or fourth sequel to a good original movie, the producers just want to stick to what works. Unfortunately, by the time you get to Godfather III, it usually turns out to be just another Porky's. But maybe that's just what people want. If I want a good, cheap, no frills meal, then I just go across the street to the Grecian Table and get an honest meal for an honest price. We'll give it a couple more tries and I hope we can review this review and give this less than stellar establishment a higher mark but, I genuinely doubt that this place will light up my Saganaki, OPA! read more

I really don't understand how this place has poor ratings. I live in Chicago and I crave this place. A couple of highlights: 1. The greek salad with grilled chicken. The chicken here is so delicious, it really makes the salad. Plus the salads are huge! 2. Lemon rice soup. The shit. So amazing every time. I went through a really difficult time recently and it was essentially the only thing I could stomach. It warms your tummy and your soul. 3. The gyros. Chicken and lamb. Phenomenal. The pita is so soft, the tzaziki perfect, the meat tender. My mom is obsessed with their omelettes (they look good too) Don't try to get fancy here. Used to go there every week. Food and price was great. Came there about 20 minutes after opening and put the order in. I don't like to cause issue with people preparing my food but after 20 minutes I finally asked the waitress "what seems to be the hold up" and she finally came back and said the cooks are getting started late. I then get my breakfast 10 minutes later and it was cold. I have no idea what the issue was but I said I was not eating this and we paid the bill. I tried to call the owner or manager and no call back. I actually got a run around the few times I called the location. My first time visiting this chain was earlier this week at the location in Livonia. I received pretty good service while I was here grabbing dinner before class. I ordered the grape leave dinner. No one can make grape leaves like my mom but I thought I would give them a shot. I thought I received a generous amount of food for the price which was nice when it all came. Grape leaves were kind if dry, but okay for restaurant food....any way, hours later this food did not sit well with me at all. I felt horrible. I will probably not be ordering that dish anymore.... Round two...I went to the new red olive in the Shores with my mom so she could see what it was all about....MEH. Its a heck of a lot better than Grecian table which is across the street but it is nothing more than average restaurant food. My mom ordered the spinach pie dinner, which the spinach pie was decent. I ordered the broiled chicken dinner this time....yeah, it wasn't that great. The chicken tasted really processed, rubbery and overly charred. It was suppose to have Greek spices on it but I tasted nothing. You get a side of veggies with the dinner meal, which happened to be corn...corn from a can no less...I can open my own can at home if I wanted a side of corn. I was extremely disappointed with my meal and I probably will not come back anytime soon. The only up side is that they offer a good variety of salads, and my moms Greek salad that she also got was decent. It is honestly shameful to see these restaurants popping up around town putting Greek cuisine to shame. Next time I'll stick to my mother's home cooking. read more

I get Red Olive once or twice per week. Every location I have been to is great including this one. They have the best Greek Salad dressing around and give you plenty to use on your salad. All their Gyros wraps are fantastic. And their breakfast is delicious too. Carry out is usually prompt although it does get pretty busy around dinner time. On top of all this, portions are pretty generous and prices are very cheap compared to other places. If you want a casual place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner or a good carry out meal I would highly recommend this place. read more

Great gyros, probably the best I've ever had. The meat is tender chunks of yum - not the thin flat meat you'll find in other gyros. And feta cheese on a gyro? Yes, please! Can't say the same for the Greek salad. Iceberg lettuce with sparse - and I do mean sparse - toppings. The only good thing about the salad was the dressing. Was excited for a new restaurant in the Shores but was fooled again after 2 visits. Our First visit we waited 15 minutes just to get a server to take our drink order. Food was average. Decided to give it a second try and we were shocked to see that the place was packed. I can't get over the fact that the menu is 9 pages long! Yes, 9 pages! After being completely lost in the menu we ordered a patty melt and chicken Cesar pita and then waited over 35 minutes for the food. The patty melt came 1/4 inch think and burned. Sent back the item. No restaurant should have a gigantic menu which tells me nothing is fresh and only frozen. I can tell you that listening to other people we are not the only unhappy diners. Can St. Clair Shores pleeeease get a good, fresh, and clean restaurant that we can enjoy!? read more

I'm very surprised by the poor ratings. My fiancé and I eat here at least once a week. The food for the price is great and quality. The manager at this location is attentive and cares about her customers and staff. We have a few waitresses we see frequently and they a friendly and attentive. Although the service is average, wait staff friendly, the food is so-so at best, and you are nickel-and-dimed into a very pricey experience (for what you get).
