I liked the spinach and cheese empanadas, as well as the pork tamales and their donuts were also pretty good. What is sorely lacking is politeness and care for the customer! This is true of the owners, both the man and woman, and not the "hired help." The owners are rude and seem put out when you are there to buy something. This is not true of the staff. The young lady and the young man who work the counter are always polite and friendly. The owners could learn a lot by following the lead of their employees! It seems the owners are resting on their laurels and don't care what customers think. Based on the one review from the parent of a former employee, I have decided to forego doing any further business with Lao's (or is it Leo's....the sign on the front of their building states the latter). Rudeness and lack of care and concern for customers AND employees does not set well with me! What the owners need to learn is that good product can be found elsewhere. By far some of the best empanadas and tamales I've ever tasted. The business is very clean. The owner and his wife are so friendly and welcoming to their establishment. My son loved the donuts and we will most definitely be returning for empanadas and tamales. Looking forward to tasting their champurrado. read more

These are some of the freshest donuts I have had in a long time. I don't like many other donut shops, as the donuts are so sweet. They have my favorite donut, the French Cruller, awesome, but the Ham, Cheese, Jalapeno croissant is delicious. Also, the spinach and cheese empanadas are awesome, and the tamales are good. I usually don't like traditional tamales, so for me to say they are good means a lot. The owner is usually very friendly, but on occasion he can seem a bit...um shall we say distracted. But I guess that makes sense seeing how many hours the man works...lol. I go here probably once a month, usually for the croissant and empanadas but occasionally for the donuts... There is only one way to describe Lao and his wide array of unique and tasty donuts and pastries; "donut artist". There is simply nowhere else in the high desert that even compares to their level of quality. Each and every donut is handcrafted to perfection, each bite melts in your mouth and makes you want more. One of their best items is the glazed blueberry donut, which combines the best things about blueberry muffins and donuts, and is definitely a "must try". It is also available in a non-glazed version for the health-conscious. One of the best things about Lao's is it's dining area. It is great to relax and eat breakfast in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Their dining area consists of ultramodern tables and chairs, similar to many trendy upscale coffee houses and yogurt shops in Los Angeles. Also, they keep the area very clean and well stocked with any essential you may need for your breakfast experience. In addition, they specialize in Argentinean empanadas, tortas, and tamales. This is the only place I can think of in the high desert that even has Argentinean food. I can't compare it to anywhere else, but I think that it tastes very good and certainly worth coming back for lunch once you've digested all the donuts. This is the place I go to when I'm craving a donut...tamale, or even empanadas! It's a small mom and pop shop; in which, they prepare delicious traditional antojitos always ready to bite into. They even cater, I always remember to call ahead because I mean it takes a while to taste that GOOD! Their service always takes care of you here, and they always make me feel welcomed. I've brought my friends here for breakfast, and they too have all fallen in breakfast love with this place. Their prices are fair with donuts non can compare, sometimes I feel like their sweet tooth and mine are in tune! The candy donuts bring out the kid in me :) I definitely recommend this place for the next time you want to sweeten someone's classroom, or office! read more
